How about Natalie? Hairy Jake Gyllenhaal, ultimate male hottie and That Sweater

Remember the summer - how we waited (not that patiently perhaps) for Jake to finish his summer holiday and come back to us? Well, now we have less than three weeks to the release of Rendition in the US and the UK and everyday seems like a good Jake day. I've never enjoyed a summer's end so much. So for today, here is a recap of what's been going on in just the last 24 hours.

Mischa out, Natalie in

It was always going to be the case that speculation would be intense concerning the female lead in Brothers. A rumour last week put Mischa Barton in the role - the new rumour, allegedly from the mouth of director Jim Sheridan himself, is that Jake's good friend Natalie Portman may be in the running. Jim apparently said this to Jeffrey Wells, often a good source, so although I'm still pinching salt I am going to allow myself a few moments of hoping this is true. It would definitely make for a fun shoot for Jake, which can only be a good thing. I also relish the opportunity to post pictures (taken over the last 5 years) of Jake and Natalie together.

It also seems that while Jim is going for youthful actors, Tobey's height may be a bit of an issue: 'Sheridan said he wants the trio to be younger than they were in Bier's film. The only problem is that the 5 foot, 8-inch tall Maguire is 4 inches shorter than Gyllenhaal, who stands six feet. This violates the general biological rule that brothers are either roughly the same height or no more than two inches apart. My brother Tony and I are about an inch apart, if that, and my younger son Dylan is 6' 4" to Jett's 6'2" -- you'll rarely see brothers who are 3 or 4 inches apart.'

You belong to me, Like a very hairy Jake Gyllenhaal to me

It's been so good to see Andy Samberg and SNL's love song to Iran's president Mahmoud 'In Iran we don't have homosexuals' Ahmadinejad sweeping round the net today, with the vast majority of commentors enjoying the humour and cameos of the lovely Adam Levine and the even lovelier Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake puts his beard to good use, giving it a scratch before sticking his fingers up in gestures that, in the UK at least, don't mean Victory. The video may not stay on YouTube for long so enjoy it while you can!

Rendition Press Day

As we reported here just yesterday, last Friday was Rendition's Press Day. Confirmation of that came today in a rather curious way. My old favourite, the Chicago Sun-Times, revealed that Britney Spears has been doing her best to be photographed on a daily basis with the biggest celebrities. Her mission last Friday, on discovering it was Rendition press day, was to be seen with Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon, reasoning that paps could not be far away. But Britney was unsucessful: 'A harried staffer at the Four Seasons told me she purposely told the entertainer "we were holding a [press] junket here for 'Rendition,' " starring Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, who allegedly have been having a fling. In fact, those interviews took place Friday at the Beverly Wilshire, so when Spears arrived at the Four Seasons, there were no paparazzi to be seen.' But never mind Britney, I really want to see/hear some of these interviews.

Jake's dinner with Peter

Over the last couple of days we've seen pictures of paps making it difficult for Jake to leave a 'private party', flashing their cameras at him as he tried to drive away. Well, for those who want to see it, here is a video of those moments, showing that they even filmed Jake inside the restaurant where he appears to be dining with Peter Sarsgaard. So no private party at all, just dinner, not in peace. And because some sites don't check the facts, Jake can't even dine with Peter without insinuation. Jake handles the whole matter like the consummate professional he is.

Jake an ultimate male hottie (1990s to 2007)

On a happier note, Jake is in another poll - Entertainment Weekly is gathering votes to crown the ultimate male hottie of the last 17 years. Jake has some competition, including the usual and predictable candidates - George Clooney, Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Hugh Grant, Christian Bale, etc, etc - but can there be any choice? Jake is way behind lead Christian Bale and is currently in 7th place so there is work to be done, my friends.

And finally...

... the sweater. There was much fun and games yesterday when it was noted by some eagle-eyed Gyllenhaalics and Heathens that Jake's sweater on the cover of Interview magazine looked extremely similarly to one worn by Heath in 2006. So here are the pictures for you to judge yourself - looks pretty similar to me!

  1. Lots of exciting stuff WDW! :D

Btw, it's very funny because most in the US have thought Jake was making the peace sign in the SNL short. Only have UKers and Europeans mentioned that it is flipping the bird to them, LOL. They even called it the peace sign in that US Weekly. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  2. Thanks Get Real :) I've found this whole peace sign thing perplexing because over here that means the complete opposite and more like what one would really want to say to the Iran president.

  3. I only knew its true nature because of my prior exposure to Ewan McGregor, who has a tendency to use that gesture himself. ;) I'm certain it was intentional on Jake's part.

Thanks for finding the Heath pic with the sweater, WDW. I think it's the same brand and style and color, if not the article that Heath physically wore. Too funny.

  4. Hi Cherita! Oh, I love Ewan McGregor (he's on Jonathan Ross this week, having just completed another of those incredible motorike trips). I'm sure it was intentional on Jake's part too.

I couldn't resist posting the two sweater pics! It's so funny and can only appeal to the RPS fans out there, of which I'm one. I just love this image in my head of Jake sharing his wardrobe with all of his friends, whether it's true or not. It's just too good :)

  5. Thanks for the Sweatergate pics WDW! They do look very similar but Heath's one seems to be slightly more ripped around the bottom of the V than Jake's but that could be the angle, or the fact that Heath's shirt is darker than Jake's t-shirt. We'll never know the truth, so I'm going to go with the theory they're the same one. Btw, I think Jake should give away ALL his clothes to his friends and just walk around topless...Well I'll let him keep a few v neck tops and shirts, as long as they're suitably unbuttoned!

That SNL video gets funnier every time I watch it:D I'm sure Jake knew exactly what he was doing with that gesture - didn't the old Milk Snatcher do the same once (officially accidentally) after one of her election victories?
It's brilliant political satire and I love that Jake did this!

  7. Oops! Sorry about the double post. It wouldn't let me post at all first, then it posted double *confused*

  8. Okay, I have to go with all of you that Jake probably did the SNL jesture on purpose as a "fuck you" to the Iran President. ;)

WDW, I love Ewan M! There is just something about him, like Jake, that gets me every time. *sigh* I loved his biking series.

Btw, thanks for the cool pics of Jake and Heath in what looks like the same sweater! :D

  9. . . . And even tho I disagree with most everything you said,

you ain't wrong to me, you belong to me . . .

LOL that SNL clip really does get funnier every time you see it - the lyrics are brilliant - Andy Samberg is very clever and creative, and Adam and Jake were wonderful in it.

I'm avoiding all information about the original Brothers (I haven't seen it) so I can enjoy the remake to the fullest, but I'm happy to hear that Natalie will be in it!

    Thanks WDW! :)

  10. HiTwisted Logic - Blogger's palying up a bit tonight - I blame it on all the Sweet Jakeness - it's overloaded Blogger ;)

I absolutely love the idea that Jake should just give his clothes away and be topless! The exception could be the v-shaped white T as that shirt on Jake is a work of art.

Hmmm, Sweatergate (like that). I can see what you mean about slight differences in distressedness in the sweaters but I've chosen to believe that that is to do with the colour of the shirts worn underneath and that they are in fact the same item of clothing - either Heath's or Jake's, I don't mind which...

Yep, I remember the milksnatcher doing that. I'm sure Jake knew what he was doing and was revelling in the irony of it. I love the little stroke of the beard. (Maybe now he'll think about shaving it? Perhaps? - I love the beard but I'm ready for Shorn Jake)

  11. Hey Get Real - good to spread the Ewan love. I loved Ewan and Charley's Long Way Round (being a bit of a biking chick myself ;) ) and I'm looking forward to the new series - across AFrica?

I think Jake was definitely telling the Iranian president where to go. And yes, my heart says that's the same sweater :D

Hey Marina - I loved the lyrics of that song and I thought Adam looked so handsome in it. How great that Jake wanted to be part of this!

I'm avoiding the original Brothers too, I just want to enjoy this version. But I would be thrilled if Natalie were in it, simply because she's a fine actress and I know it would make it a happy shoot for Jake.

  12. I'm trying to avoid finding out too much about Brothers as well. I can't see the height thing being too much of a problem. Surely if Hollywood can make a ruddy big ship sail down the streets of New York they can make a bloke look a few inches taller! How has Tom Cruise managed all these years? That quote just seems so random...

WDW, I agree, I think the beard has served its time now, and we need to see that beautiful face in all its glory. I want to see a nicely clean shaven Jake beaming out from my TV screen on Oct 12th ;) Otoh, have you seen JR's "beard" he's sporting atm? If Jake has his too I can see them having some really funny banter about it! Oh, i don't care- I'll take whatever I can get!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Exactly Twisted Logic - Tobey hardly looks short as Spidey. I agree on the beards - JR's looks absolutely ridiculous! What's going on there? And he hasn't even got the excuse of a film role. He and Jake should both get rid of them before 12 October ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. No, better still, they (well, Jake, I'm not that bothered about JR!) should do some sort of charity thing and shave his beard on TV!!OMG I swear I would collapse if I saw that, that shaving scene in BBM makes me weak!! time for a bit of Brokeback I think, then I'm off to bed. I wonder what Jake-treats tomorrow will bring? Night everyone :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. G'night TL Anoher long day tomorrow, but who knows what it may bring...

Night all :) Thanks for another great day :D I'll catch up with you in the morning.

  16. I'm absolutely delighted at the idea of Natalie and Jake working together.

Don't know what to think about that sweater! LOL!!! leave it to Jake.

Gotta say. Even tho the sweater might have been a mass produced item, it sure is a funny coincidence that he would be wearing the exact same (kind of) sweater Heath wore.

I haven't got my Interview yet, but they usually say where various items of clothing come from that are used in a photo shoot.

And it's true that the photographer has a lot to say about what is worn and so forth as to composition, but I think that the subject would have something to contribute as well. Especially since this doesn't seem to be a straight up fashion shoot.

I'm so exited about Rendition coming out!!!! Can't wait to see it.

The pap pictures were really distressing and bizarre. I read somewhere that paps often try to provoke an incident, and even better, an accident involving one of them. They have a lawyer file and get a few "witnesses." There is usually a cash settlement involved. Of course, a lot of these thugs are not photographers, but convicted felons with cameras.
Can you even imagine what it must be like for celebs with small children? Outrageous.

  17. Re: Sweatergate
I checked the credit page in Jake's issue of Interview. The cover sweater is "$475 by Dior Homme, at Dior Homme (LA)".

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks for that, birdie! At least now I know they made more than one, LOL!!!! But still.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bobbyanna, your "made more than one" comment made me laugh.
Honestly..... my first thought when I read the credit was, "I cannot believe Heath Ledger paid $475 for that sweater!" :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Morning everyone!

Thanks Birdie for the Sweatergate info :)

$475! That's a lot of money for a sweater with so many holes in it. The holes must be extra. I still think it's a huge coincidence but, as you say Bobbyanna - at least we know now that they made more than one (that made me laugh too) and, if you want one, where to get it! I think the subject can have some involvement in clothes choices - I got that feeling with the GQ shoot.

    Have a good day :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. That sweater is too horrible :) It looks like the same one, though.

I awwwwed a bit at Britney :( I think if we are feeling for Jake being pressurised by paps we should spare some sympathy for Britney. It must be weird for her to be on the wrong part of the wheel of fortune (however much is contributory). Hope she gets it back together soon.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Natalie in 'Brothers'with Jake would be awsome!!

I saw the pap video and even if I'm usually happy to see Jake I hated seeing him so disappointed...
    :(

Oh and Heath's sweater is definitely the same item of clothing as Jake's...:)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Anouska and Xenia - I did feel some compassion for Britney reading about her in the paper today. I hope the court's decision triggers her to get her act together while she still can.

I think we can now say that - even if it's not true - that is the same jumper. It's official :D

  24. Hiya folks, playing catch up on this one, crashed early last night.

Jake's involvement in the President Hold-me-dinner-jacket video shows some bravery in making a political point or two,and somehow very "Jake" that it's done using satirical humour. It's really worrying that a country as politically volatile and strategically significant as Iran is being led by someone who can deny the Holocaust and the existence of homosexuality in his country. The man is clearly delusional and therefore yet more dangerous.

(Anybody else here old enough, probably just among the Brits, to remember "I Ran,(I ran so far away..."by "A Flock of Seagulls? Just a random bit of nostalgia thrown in there).

To go all Wikipaedia on you,I believe that the V-sign as the Brits use it originated in the Middle Ages, when the key weapon involved in warfare was the long bow. The index and middle fingers were essential in being able to shoot a longbow effectively and captured archers would often have those digits cut off to render them useless (uuuggggh!). In a particular battle (can't remember which) British Longbowmen, having decimated opposing troops with a volley of arrows, were said to have then accentuated their superiority and defiance by flicking their index and middle fingers towards the enemy,to say "Up yours,we've still got our bow fingers". Over time this has become a standard insulting gesture over here, the reverse of the peace sign, generally held to mean "You can Foxtrot Oscar!",of "F**k off",to be blunt. I'm sure that was the interpretation Jake intended for his V-signs.

Just have to come back to the Papping incident again momentarily. Having seen the video footage I'm even more appalled at the behaviour of the Paps. This was not a private party, as first reported, where they might have been expected to gather for rich celebrity pickings, but a private dinner a deux with Peter in a restaurant, which makes it feel more like personal harrassment and stalking of an individual. To film Jake and Peter eating in these circumstances was intrusive in the extreme and the melee outside still makes my blood run cold. Just my gut reaction.

As for "Sweatergate" -fabulous title,TL - 250 quid for a jumper without holes seems extortionate to me,let alone with artistic fraying, but hey, that's designer fashion for you. I've never thought of Heath and Jake as your average fashion victim though.

As to whether or not it's the same jumper, rather than just the same style - as another slavish devotee of RPS,I've decided that it is one and the same garment. So I might be delusional too,but I'm not the president of a nearly-nuclear Middle Eastern country!

  25. Nadine - I want to frame your comment and hang bells on it - wonderful!

I'll be back to respond properly when work has released me ...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Awwww,thanks WDW,see you later!

I meant to say, also, that I, too, vote for Natalie Portman as the female lead in "Brothers". To be filming opposite at least one long-time and close friend,in a city near to family and other long-time close friends, should make it an enjoyable and fulfilling shoot for Jake.

To be comfortable and at ease on and off set must be so important, especially when shooting a film which promises to be so emotionally compelling and heart-rending.
(I'm typing this while listening to the music from the "Rendition" site and it's giving me shivers...)

    ReplyDelete
  27. how about Natalie? I like it. I like it alot! if this happens wouldnt I love to be a fly on THIS set! there IS intelligent life in the universe! (Id settle for sex, but as Woody Allen said about his brain: it is his second favorite organ)

Ive had an urge lately to wear my boyfriend's basketball sweater, I dont even have a "boyfriend", that boy and that sweater was many years ago. Oh well, I'll settle for wearing the $475. Dior Homme sweater - can you IMAGINE wearing a sweater carrying the scent of both Jake and Heath - Nadine, I, too, BELIEVE, against some photo evidence, it is THE SAME.

And also thanks for the background on the f.u. gesture - very Monty Python - how could they have missed it?

Yes Cherita I too love the image of Jake sharing his clothes with friends. I think Jake learned everything he needed to know in Kindergarten:

    Share Everything
    Play Fair
    Dont hit people
Say youre sorry when you hurt someone
Take a break in the afternoon for cookies

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've been trying to remember if it was the battle of Agincourt, or Crecy. Bet Nadine will know.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Anouska! I had to do some Googling to find out,it was Agincourt and there's some debate as to whether it was just the middle finger or the index finger too. Sorry,I can be a hive of useless information at times :-/

Pia,your kindergarten rules are so cute! If everyone lived by them, the world would be a much happier place!

  30. OMG!!! I just saw a TV ad for Rendition during the half time ad break in the Arsenal game!!! It's on ITV4!!!Jake is gorgeous!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Er...sorry about the demented squealing post above. I literally just saw it as I logged on and got a bit overexcited! Could I find the remote so I could tape it? Of course not:( So now I'm going to have to tape every ad break that comes on.I haven't done that since Thierry Henry's Va va voom adverts.

Anyway, now I've had a chance to read today's posts:)

$475 for something that looks like it was dragged through a hedge backwards?! You're having a laugh! Now, I love a man in scruffy ripped clothes as much as my Gunner boys love to pass the ball into the back of the net ,but isn't it missing the point somewhat if the rips are there on purpose? Jake should have just got a £5 top from Primark and I would've been more than happy to help him get it ripped;)

Nadine, thank you so much for that explanation about the V sign! I love reading stuff like that, it's fascinating!

Ok, off to watch the rest of the game and hope for an Arsenal victory and a glimpse of Jake for afters:)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi everyone! Wow! I actually made it home from work....

First off - you saw a trailer Twisted Logic! During a football match? I was intending to watch the programme about Stephen Fry and HIV but I fear that may be trailerless... I tell you, if I watched TV and a trailer came up, I might spill my wine - yes, the wine is open ;)

Nadine - I promised I would come back to your great post and it's such a treat :) So Flock of Seagulls - I used to go and watch them play - and Echo and the Bunnymen - during my teenage years in Manchester and Liverpool - the Armadillo Cafe on Mathew Street (I think) in Liverpool was a great place to hang out and have a cup of tea with the bands.

Thanks for the explanation on bow fingers - I remember that from my archaeology and historian days.

Out on the street, I have relatively few problems myself with paps taking pictures of stars - it's a brief moment in a day and there are far worse things to suffer through a job in my opinion - but I cannot abide pictures taken of people having a quiet meal. Fortunately, that doesn't happen often but it's unacceptable.

So I might be delusional too,but I'm not the president of a nearly-nuclear Middle Eastern country! - I'm with you on Sweatergate!

hi Positively pia - thank you for that lovely comment *) I agree with you completely: can you IMAGINE wearing a sweater carrying the scent of both Jake and Heath - Nadine, I, too, BELIEVE, against some photo evidence, it is THE SAME. - the thought is too good to deny.

I love the idea of Natalie too :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey twisted Logic - we're posting at the same time again - I hope you get to tape the ad in the end. All demented squealing definitely understandable.

Er, if there's any ripping of Jake's clothes to be done...

    Enjoy the match :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hey WDW! I did enjoy the match! One-nil to the Ar-se-NAL!! I believe your mob won too by the same scoreline;)
No Jake unfortunately, but the night is still young :)

Btw, I too believe to the Official Verdict on Sweatergate. No need for "sexing up" that one!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey Twisted Logic - glad the Gunners did you proud:)

yep, the Official Sweatergate Verdict is Official...
