Jake and Brokeback's BAFTA success - 2006

Today, I met both old and new Brokeback friends in London. We retrod our footsteps from the BAFTAs in February this year and remembered Jake Gyllenhaal's success at those awards the year before. So, let's revisit the BAFTAs in 2006, where, not only Jake, but also Brokeback Mountain, found reward. It's also fun to look back and watch Jake presenting his first award at the event.

  2. Morning all :) Hope everyone had a good night. Thanks for the link Anon - I like the one with the dog :) I could certainly deal with one of those cups of coffee right now...

  3. Importantly, WDW, will that be the only time we'll see Matt Dillon and 'Ron Weasley' in the same frame?

Yesterday was great and funny (thanks Ruby and Tammy too!). Also some poignant moments remembering the extreme bonding experience that was BAFTA 2007.

  4. Hey Anouska! One of the downsides of BAFTAs 2006 was that flippin Matt Dillon ket popping up and I cannot stand him - so there you go. Said it now - no doubt he's a fave of your's!

It was just great yesterday - I can never thank Jake enough for attending the BAFTAs in 2007 - life-changing in more ways than one *)

  5. I like Matt Dillon. :) fwiw

  6. Well, I wouldn't call him a fave exactly, though I thought he was excellent in that movie C***h.

You know my faves :D Austin, Wentworth and Matt (Damon). And I quite like that Jake too :)

Hey Ruby* Is this our play-thread now, d'you think?

    ReplyDelete
  7. We could talk about Steve Coogan now! Or Rob Brydon? Or Aguirre?

    :D:D

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hey Anouska - Matt (Damon)'s grown on me lately. Steve Coogan's all right. I never saw Prison Break so my Wentworth knowledge is zilch. Not doing very well am I? I do like Jake though... ;) Oh, you noticed.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You might have mentioned it in passing :)

And my numero uno guy Austin? ;)

Rob, Steve and Aguirre weren't serious questions, though I do think Steve's a genius; possibly not a nice one if we are to believe rumour.

  10. Hey Ruby* Is this our play-thread now, d'you think?

looks that way, although we should maybe bump it up a post or two before we get left behind.

I like Wentworth. He's cute. Don't like Steve Coogan. He annoys me.

    hmm Austin......*strokes chin thoughtfully*

  11. I have my answer, Ruby - I just saw the cutie-pie pic you posted on DC ***

Will WDW come back and find us/scold us or can we just keep playing? Can we get Pia and Tammy over here?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmmmm Austin? Not bad, I suppose. But what about the other kid in TDAT, RJ - whatever happened to him?

Steve Coogan could be bad. Is this a good time to say I like Richard Hammond on Top Gear (and his birthday is the same day as Jake's)

    ReplyDelete
  13. WDW knows all and sees all.

Not sure what happened to the other kid. I only have eyes for mine :D

Hammy's too tiny to interest me ;) Did you know he's a gay icon?

    ReplyDelete
  14. The pic was special for you Nousk. *

ok I admit I have quite a collection now. He's cute. And tall. I like cute and tall.

wdw - that was creepy - you have a webcam in my house or something? :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. Don't you get at the Hamster Anouska! I like cute and tall too but hairy and dark!!

Ruby - put that cat down this instant!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now I have to hanlde the cat that way. The spoilt little hobbit has to have her paws bathed twice a day at the moment - vets orders. :D

Sorry that was off topic. errrr, jake is great, what was this post about again?
Oh yeah Bafta. Actually Bafta 2006 was an important moment for me - made me go back to the cinema the following day and watch BBM again. Alone. Felt wretched afterwards, worse than the first time. It was at Leicester Square and they were clearing up from Bafta. I remember it well.

    ReplyDelete
  17. OMG Ruby that's so sad :( If only we'd got together then and not waited another year. It was a special moment for me too as I swore I would be there at the next Baftas.

Poor cat... Jake is great! That would be such a good name for a cat...

  18. Ruby, that's extreme masochism :(

I just remember the feeling exactly a week later, oh dear.

WDW, I'd never get at dear Hammy, just couldn't go for a guy I could carry under one arm :D

    ReplyDelete
  19. I remember that the week after the Oscars, my cinema brought back all the candidate films, which meant I had a week to get in as many viewings as possible.

Can't help chuckling at that one, Anouska! Which reminds me, he's on TV in 5 minutes. Might watch that before another Zodiac viewing - can't get enough of that at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I need to dash for punctuation class. We're doing question marks tonight ;)

I'm one Vernaccia in. How are you all doing?

    ReplyDelete
  21. With hindsight, yes it was masochism. But at the time I'd only seen it the once and it wouldn't get out of my head and leave me alone. I thought another viewing would set me right and I could forget about it. Huh. That worked well. : /

    ReplyDelete
  22. :D I'm trying a Californian Sirah tonight (I take it, you're talking vino here?!) I am thinking about having a Blue Margarita though to practice for tomorrow - did I mention it's my birthday tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, but it was a good thought Ruby - we all had to try and deal with this thing and it wasn't easy

    ReplyDelete
  24. Are you still intent on the blue birthday drinks, WDW, 'cos I can't think of one I could drink. May I have a yellow one instead?

Oh, BBM, I was mixing up my BAFTA years. I was destroyed for five months after BBM.

    ReplyDelete
  25. A yellow drink? Sounds yucky...

I remember after our Baftas though that the week afterwards was so hard, and then the month anniversary. I felt much better after we all met up again and talked it through! The thing about TIFF and Rome is that I don't feel like I've talked them through. Today's post has helped though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The TIFF post is lovely - I hope you get all the TIFFers calling in later to reminisce.

I just changed channels and a random holiday advert came on for California. It's a sign! A sign, I tell you!

Beginning second glass. I love being off work :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks *) I hope so too but I think a lot of people are away at the moment. I hope they catch it when they get back.

It is great not working, I'm just finishing off my first glass and getting ready for no 2!

I love that California ad - you know what it's telling you ;)

    Maybe I'll have a G&T

    ReplyDelete
  28. all the leaves are brown
    and the sky is grey
    I went for a walk
    on a winter's day

    I'd be safe and warm
    if I was in L.A..........

don't mind me, just singing to myself.

I appear to have no drink :/ oh mistuh Rooooby........

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dang I missed that post Ruby, I'd've harmonised ;D.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You're getting all harmonised and harmonical and here I am watching a programme about two men driving across the Arctic Sea while drinking G&Ts. Sorry to lower the tone.

I've finished my glass of sirah, so do I have more of the same or a Bloody Mary or something with Tequila?

    ReplyDelete
  31. More of the same; don't mix.

    ReplyDelete
  32. All right then, I'll have a second of the same and then I'll switch :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night...

sorry, singing again, just can't help myself..

isn't it dangerous drinking and driving in the Arctic? :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Stoppit Ruby, I'm in pain - I used to love the Eagles :)

That spam on your TIFF post, K - is it Spanish, Portuguese or Esperanto? I know it's not rude anyway. Feel free to delete me there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ruby - you're so lyrical tonight - did you get a drink off Mistah Rubee? Apparently there are no drink driving rules in the middle of the Arctic Sea and there are no roads. But they also fell asleep at the wheel for a while and that didn't look good either.

    And what's a colita anyway?

I've left you and got rid of them as you were funny and they were Tweeble ;)

Top Gear is over, I need Jake stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
Where the little girls in their hollywood bungalows
Are you a lucky little lady in the city of light
Or just another lost angel...city of night

ok, I'm done with the singing, I'm getting a sore throat and the neighbours might complain.

a colita is...I dunno what a colita is, momma never explained it to me. Neither did the Eagles.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, that's a shame, 'cos I was enjoying it. Also I couldn't really hear it as I'm playing The Who full blast.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What with the Who and Jurassic Park 3 (who got that far?) and guys driving through the Arctic I worry about WDW at times. Have a great near and real birthday, WDW!

Don't sing that one Ruby, you'll get hoarse :)

    Nite **

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm listening to the Tommy soundtrack - don't ask me why, I just felt like it. It must be this Sirah - I've not drunk this wine before and its effects are unpredictable. I have eclectic tastes! I also like dinosaurs - I am an archaeologist after all, with a palaeontological bent. And I like cars, OK? And I like ice... (but not in drinks).

    'Nite *)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Don't get defensive :D I love dinosaurs too and enjoyed Jurassic Park. I just don't know anyone else who got as far as 3 :D

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm looking forward to 4 next year! Mr WDW just tuts and raises his bushy eyebrows.

I remember reading that Jake's worst subject at college was dinosaurs - strange that. I wish I'd been taught about them, rather than about rocks and crops.

I need a Jake movie to watch. As I don't have a film of Jake as Indiana Jones I'll settle for Zodiac :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. Don't sing that one Ruby, you'll get hoarse :)

but I do a great Jim Morrison impression. :D

    Night A, :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. Don't talk about Jim Morrison, Mr WDW has just loaded all these Jim Morrison tunes on his phone as his ring tones and makes me keep ringing him just so he can dance to his phone... Are you going to bed too Ruby? Surely no...

    ReplyDelete
  44. no, I was just saying night to A. I'll be around for a bit yet.

Don't you like Jim? I do.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh goodie - No, I like Jim, especially 'People are Strange' and 'Riders on the Storm'. I've gone off 'LA Woman' as that's the ringtone of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey, y'all! Reminds me of my salad days when there was a party the word got around. maybe everybody's gone to bed by now. drinkin' with you guys at four in the afternoon is gonna make a lush outta me. and then you all go to bed.

Ruby: "I went for a walk
on a winter's day I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.........."

Smog! There's no "there" there - ! Of course I had my heart broken in Santa Monica, and sat in a movie theatre for about three days crying non stop. but I never could find "L.A." and left for San Francisco on the morning train.

No heart break with Jake! No need to put on the brakes!

In the meantime, Ive got a dozen wee paper umbrellas on toothpicks (they're awful cute the way you open them and fasten them open with a little plastic ring) which Ive put all over my house, and I guess I'll stick one in a slice of lime tomorrow in my tequila and blue curaco. what is this thing called love, anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey Pia! You heard us :D I fear Anouska's sleeping it off, but Ruby could be around still. I'm watching the end of Zodiac :D I'm up to the bit where Graysmith has ruffled hair and stubble - :P

That's bad about Santa Monica. I had an experience there too. I lost a car and it took me a long time to find it and when I did it was outside the Urth cafe. You would have thought I'd've remembered that. I had a good walk though and had lunch on the pier.

Your umbrellas sound great - I have blue caracao and tequila ready to go too. :D

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi PIA, you just caught me before I head bedwards. :D

have a nice evening. I'll be singing of California over the next few days.

sitting on the dock of the bay....watching the tide roll away...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Pia - you've set Ruby off again. I think this is Ruby's way of saying that she wants to go to sunny California :D

I remember when I was in California spending a few hours by an elephant seal beach - do you know any songs about that, Ruby?

It's the scarey bit of Zodiac now...
