Jake to be in a movie tribute to Heath? And Young Jake

There has been speculation surrounding what will happen to Heath's work-in-progress, Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, with one rumour suggesting that Johnny Depp may take over Heath's role. However, last night the story emerged that Jake Gyllenhaal, along with Johnny Depp, Sean Penn and Christian Bale, may each play a scene in the film to show a transition to Heath's character whilst also creating a lasting tribute to their friend.

True or not, who knows, but what a 'solution' to a dreadful dilemma facing the producers of the film. Although, the story also says that a main factor for the film perhaps ending here and now is that its cast and crew have lost all heart for it and miss Heath too much.

This is what the story, as originally reported in the Sun but reproduced here, has to say: 'An insider on the film said: “Heath’s character falls into a magic mirror four times during the film. It allows Terry to change the actor easily if he wants to. Jonny, Jake, Sean and Christian were all friends of Heath’s and would love to be involved. The director and other big wigs on the film are mulling over the idea, but it’s likely to go ahead in what would be intended as a tribute to Ledger. One of the main sticking points isn’t so much this, it’s how upset Ledger’s co-stars LILY COLE and CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER are. The rest of the film crew are also deeply upset. Heath was such a lovely guy. Everyone is finding it difficult to continue with the project."'

Thanks to friend Roco for allowing me to share here his lovingly-produced montage of Heath.

Yesterday, we enjoyed truly stunning pictures of action man Jake carrying bikes, cycling, chopping wood and rowing a boat. Today, by contrast, pictures of a young Jake and Maggie from their highschool year book have found their way to the net, revealing that Jake was a member of a disco club - although, having watched Jake's turn on the Ellen karaoke video, I'm not that surprised - and played a dentist from your nightmares in a school play. Here is a picture of Jake in the 9th grade, which would make him - and I had to look this up on Wiki - 14 or 15 years old.

And finally, some photographs

After the comments yesterday following the Interview outtakes, here is 'the jumper' again.

And these two photographs are dedicated to Pia with love.

Includes pictures from IHJ.

  1. OMG, all these pics are so gorgeous! Love that Heath montage. And Jake and Heath together, and separately with Ang.*sigh*
Jake's school pics are so cute and funny! He looks so cheeky, bless him!

That sounds like a brilliant way for Imaginarium...to go ahead, although it will probably be unbearably sad to watch:( I just hope they don't scrap the film altogether though, it would be even worse for Heath's work to never see the light:(
I still can't get used to talking about Heath like this:(

  2. Hi TL - glad you like the pics - it's about all I'm up to today! I love the pics of Jake and Heath with Ang.

I agree about the film - it would be a wonderful tribute. Sad to do, sad to watch but what a memorial to Heath. And it woulde definitely be worse if the film never came out or if they reshot Heath's scenes.

I know you said you'd ask Jake to go and get some milk for me - he's not turned up yet and I need a cuppa.

Um..yeah..sorry about that. He came round here first to drop off some strawberries and chocolate body paint and he, er, got a bit tied up;D I have to go and pick up TL Jr soon, so I'll send him on his way;)

  4. Errr thanks, I think, TL - gotta wonder what sort of state he'll be in after that, but thanks for sending him round. I need more tissues...

Jake looks so young in that picture, is he really supposed to be 15/16? And just look at him now...

  5. I dunno maybe Jonathan will swim the pond, WDW. so far he does whatever I tell him to do.

o gosh still weepin' every time I see a picture of Heath. guess it's gotta happen. (thanks Roco and WDW)

yes brilliant way to go for Imaginarium - this is a wonderful idea which has been of course set forth in IMT - thanks Uncle Bob! -
all hnor back to the source -

thank you for ang pictures, WDW. I forgive you for all of the bad things you have ever done. :) :)

  6. There's a new story in "Us" magazine, alleging that Michelle tried to get Heath to go into drug rehab. Michelle's publicist immediately called the story "heinous," and denied that any such thing ever happened. :-(
I can only wonder who is out there that wants to blacken Heath's memory like that? :-(

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks Pia, send Jonathan across then with a hamper of booze. I hadn't thought about that with INT - of course! And look at how that worked.

You forgive me for all my bad things? Some of them I'm quite proud of ;)

Hi Paul - yes, there's some huge rubbish out there and I'm trying hard to ignore it all. I feel sorry for the battle Michelle's PR is facing. Fortunately, there is a lot of love out there and around here for Heath.

  8. O come on, can we please leave this garbage (above) where it belongs! in the trash. this blog has been one safe place for many of us. If I wanna read the garbage, I will do so - please, peeps! (sorry if Im offending anyone may kindness prevail!)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Pia, you'll find none of the rubbish here, that's why I'm being careful with links. Some sites start of with one story and then it mutates by the time it comes time to write the post. So I agree with you, Pia, but please let's reaffirm this gently.

Please can everyone be sensitive to the mood of the majority of us and not post links to, or recount accounts of, some of the trash out there.

No disrespect to anyone who has posted links as I know you hate it too and are angry and my heart goes out to you. Let's forget about all of that here and focus on commemorating and loving Heath and Jake?

Cheers everyone. I still have no milk, thanks to TL, so instead I'm on the wine as the allround cure.

  10. Those highschool yearbook pictures made me smile. They are simply gorgeous! :-)

  11. Hi tpe! Good to see you :D They really made me smile too. I wonder what Jake was like at school. I've always thought he was a bit of an imp, but I could be completely wrong. I remember him joking that at maths was his worst subject and that he got a C (I think it was a C or a B-) and I just thought, that's the worst you did! You brainy sod. I love to hear about things like that. Like tha interview where he said that another of his bad subjects at college was dinosaurs! Dinosaurs! I wish I'd been somewhere where we studied them instead of Charles Dickens and the periodic table.

  12. Afternoon everyone,
Those are beautiful pics of Jake, Heath and Ang are now saved to my PB. Thank you so much.

Jake's school pics are so cute...and him acting...well that's obviously all he ever wanted to do.

I'm coming down with God knows what. Are you feeling better? I'm sure my problem is stress related.

I took my son to see Michael Clayton. I had to see it again...thank God for senior rates. *grin*
And again as soon as TDK's trailer came on...we were mesmerized by Heath's acting.
My son said to me, "Mom, that trailer is bad ass."
That's our Heath. He's one bad ass actor, who will be remembered for his acting; for his Joker by my son's generation, and for his many other ground breaking performances by all of us who love him.
Take care of yourself Kate and get plenty of rest.

  13. Just recall that Jake went to a liberal progressive school, prob. didnt have to learn Latin, Greek, etc., or the periodic tables. Even I didnt have to learn the periodic tables and Greek and Latin was considered elitist bullshit. :) :)

Very funny considering how USA has evolved. oh well, whatever. We may pull through, yet.

I think I recall that Jake had a leadership role in school.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh those pics of Jake in 9th grade are so cute! I can imagine him being a cheeky chappie and very, very popular at school.

I really hope that imaginarium will go ahead, even though it will be sad, it would be worse to lose the last filming Heath did.

That was a beautiful montage of Heath, too. Thanks to roco for it.

And what's all this about Jake, strawberries and chocolate boby paint?...you girls are making me dizzy here...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey Sass - I really want to see Michael Clayton - got fond memories of that from TIFF where, for a nanosecond, I was on the red carpet with George! But to see TDK trailer looming large with Heath. That's a fab thought that younger ones (and I hasten to add I'm pretty young myself) will adopt Heath for the Joker until they're ready to fall for Ennis and that gorgeous Knight.

Sory you're coming down with something - take care. I've been pretty poorly today so I'm glad to you all for keeping me company.

Pia, that's outrageous! You mean if I'd been born American I wouldn't have had to have endure the periodic table! Ugh. I did Greek and Latin at university though, didn't mind that, as some beautiful poetry and oratory. A leadership role, eh? I got into trouble for that now and again at school ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Rosie! Definitely cheekie, but I also imagine him with those big glasses he wore for some of his childhood. That can't have been easy, speaking as a foureyes myself.

It is a very beautiful montage, I loved it as soon as I saw it.

TL has been distracting Jake even though he's supposed to be looking after me and doing my shopping for me ;D

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi Pia:) Nosy me went looking for Jake's school...anything not to think.

Harvard-Westlake seems like a right nice place to get educated.;)

It is more than equivalent to some of our Junior colleges; 12% of its teachers hold doctoral degrees.

    Jake's school

Kate, as always if this link is not to your specs...feel free.

I feel like I'm in a bubble, a plastic bubble...similar to the state I was in when my mom passed, though not as awful...letting all bad news wash over me, as I think constantly about Heath, and all who loved him and wish them peace and love.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree that there's a lot of crap out there. I would not have mentioned it here, except as context for Michelle's publicist's refutation of it.... If I could give Michelle a hug in this trying hour, I would. :-(

  19. Hey Sass, when I was in LA last time, I got a taxi from Beerly Hills to Universal Studios and it went past Jake's school. It's in a gorgeous area, on the windiest (I don't mean windy I mean bendy) road through the valley.

I think about Heath and all whom he loved too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey, Sass! Me, too, feeling the same. although not quite, as with death of a family beloved -

ava maria being sung on local NPR station right now, tears flowing - as if tears will accompany this beautiful man where he's off to - I do believe this happens. why we have funerals, why we follow coffins down the streets - o my!

  21. Sorry you're having such a bad afternoon/night, Pia.

I feel calmer tonight, possibly something to do with the feeling of having my head detached from my body due to my bad cold.

  22. Kate, the memory bank you created this year has made my life so much happier. Living vicariously is the only way to go;)

I hope you can get to Michael Clayton. I missed it when it was first released. Thank goodness for Oscar.
I read your wonderful BBM anniversary post. It brought back memories of my first time, back December, 2005.
Usually a movie showing at 2:45PM, on a Tuesday, does not have many people in the seats.

    Wrong!

I arrived at 2:00PM to get a seat, but could barely get inside the auditorium.

I hastily took the first seat available... midway on the right side, next to the wall... a seat I would ordinarily never take.

From then on, and for many months after, I went to see BBM, with my ticket in hand and very early:)

  23. TL stole your milk, WDW? :D

Thanks for this happy/sad post. Jake is a very cute teenager, I see no Crest tube issues here at all :)

I would really love the actors' tribute to Heath to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know Pia,
Since last Tuesday, I sometimes cry at the most inopportune moments. The entire city is not mourning Heath, though there is a palpable sadness around the area. It just happens... tears come from nowhere, and there is nothing I can do about them, but try to behave as if I'm not ready for Bellevue Psychiatric.;)

  25. Thanks Sass. I remember my first viewing of BBM and was expecting a quiet cinema and it was packed, and it was on each subsequent occasion. Sometimes there were giggly embarrassed girls but generally such receptive audiences, lots of gay and straight couples, young and old, and people like me, on their own. Lots of tears and I'm also sure some ogling over Jack Twist.

Best not to fight the tears if you can, Sass.

Hey Anouska - As I'm sick and can't get up, TL said she'd get Jake to get me some milk, but she waylaid him with strawberries and chocolate body paint. Maybe Jake's crest tube issues were earlier, from the phase when he had to wear glasses.

The more I read about the actors apparently offering to reschedule their plans to do this for Heath, I so want it to happen. What a tribute from Heath's BBM and Batman co-stars. Has Sean acted with Heath? I don't know so much about him (although I did see him drive past at TIFF).

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey all,

Lovely post as usual. It would be a wonderful tribute imo if Jake et al took part in the movie. I want to hug Jake and tell him it will be alright. I know about losing a close friend and you have to hold onto the memories to get thru. Love these pictures too. Jake and Heath in the same sweater is very touching. And of course with Ang who cares for them both dearly and that feeling seems to go both ways back to him. And I let out a big aww at the pics of Jake and Maggie from school. They were both so freaking adorable! :) I wish my school had a disco club *pouts* ;p

WDW hope you feel better sweetie. Smart move you stayed home today and hopefully you will get your milk hand delivered by Jake, lol!

Sass, glad you liked MC. I thought it was excellent. Saw it at TIFF at a morning screening. No Clooney but the director was there and it got a rousing applause.

Hugs to you all from a sunny but cold day in NYC.

  31. I do hope Terry Gilliam finds a way to complete the film - with jake in it or not.

Thanks for the lovely pics. That young Jake picture... i remember he's of that age (and the same haircut) when he guest starred in that episode in "Homicide, Life on the street", he was an outstanding actor already there - very emotional in there already. amazing.

  32. Hi Winterbird! I'd forgotten about that. I've yet to see that...

  33. Great pictures WDW. I love the tribute to Heath. And young Jakey. What a cutie.

  34. hey WDW.... i think it's available for download at IHJ.. i only watched it twice. it's quite a "dark" scene to do. you know, like Fincher said, "Jake can be in a dark film without being dark"... even at the age of 13? :P

The pictures are lovely. And TL you're right. Jake looks "cheeky!"

Sass, thanks for the pics of Heath with his Matilda. I think these must be nearly the last pictures taken of them, aren't they?

As I looked at them, and especially that last one of Heath alone, all I could think was that he looked like he had a cold too, and wasn't dressed warm enough...tho, I'm glad he had a hat on...

  38. A wonderful gallery of pics to go with a great post, WDW, just sorry to hear you're feeling poorly. Hope you get better soon.

The Heath montage is beautiful, as is the pic of Heath and Ang. Love the way Heath is looking at Ang.

Heard the news about Terry Gilliam's film. It's a tough decision, and I feel for Terry, him being a good friend of Heath's too. I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of Jake, Johnny and Sean being in the film, I just want Heath to be remembered.

Was feeling okay-ish until I read the transcript of Heath's incredible acceptance speech at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in 2006, his final words being "here's to making more mistakes." :(

Hope Jake pops round with the milk soon, you could do with it. :)

  43. Hello again,WDW,hi all, better late than never..and what lovely pictures in this post to mull over at the end of a hectic day.

I've always loved the "Heath gives Jake the Gyllengiggles" pic from Venice and in the photos with Ang he oozes the benevolence which Jake spoke about on the set of "Brokeback" - he seems to have had a fatherly, nurturing effect on Jake and Heath and seemed to garner love and respect from both of them in return.

The juxtaposition of their raggy sweater pics gives me tingles(!!)as always - but tonight it brings a lump to my throat too.

As for those lovely pics of Heath with his beloved daughter,Sass, they are new to me and so very special. He looked so comfortable in his "role" as Daddy(if rather tired and pale in these shots) and TL,it tears me to shreds too that he was taken away from his precious little girl so prematurely.

As for the "Imaginarium" project...continuing with CGI footage of Heath had been mentioned, which horrified me...the tribute appearances from Jake and other actors sounds a much more tasteful and fitting answer to the dilemma. It would be so good yet painful to see Heath's final work committed to film and it might be somewhat cathartic for Jake to make a poignant appearance to honour his dear and terribly missed friend.

I think I need to have another look at that lovely Venice shot before I hit the hay...I need to remind myself of the many good times Heath and Jake had together.Hold on to them (((Jake)))

Get well soon,WDW and fellow sufferers. Goodnight (((everyone)))

  44. I forgot to praise the lovely Heath tribute from Roco, the master of the montage. Great work,as usual!

  45. Thanks to all of you for posting the great pictures.
I enjoyed seeing young Jake, what a cutie! Course today he still is cute although in a very grown up way. WOW! Also loved the pictures of Jake, Heath and Ang in happier times, that is the way I will remember Heath. Also the lovely pictures of Daddy Heath with his sweet Matilda. I am still in shock at Heath's passing and that this little girl has lost her loving daddy. My heart is just breaking for her. And for his family, friends and all his fans. I do hope Terry Gilliam finds a way to conplete his latest film so we will be able to see Heath's final work. Also having the film as a tribute to Heath is wonderful.
Thanks to all of you for being here, it is nice to know there is a place we can come to and talk about our feelings for Jake and our sadness at Heath's passing. It has just not getting through to my brain that Heath is no longer here. I will cherish his past work and look forward to the projects yet to be released and Terry's film finds a proper ending to honor Heath.
Thanks to you all for listening.
    RIP Sweet Heath
    Always a fan, Alice

  46. If I thought Terry Gilliam was working on a clunker of a movie, I might not feel so bad about it going unfinished, but "Imaginarium" sounds really *good*. The cast and crew are said to be feeling demoralized. However, injecting new actors might help them get their enthusiam back. Go team! :-)

  47. Thank you WDW for the J&H pics, for 'The Jumper'pics...

It would be fantastic if Jake could be included in a movie tribute to Heath, and with such a wonderful director and so many amazing (sorry WDW for the Amazing Word...:))colleagues...

Pia, I'm going to graduate in Greek next year if I'm lucky (and smart) enough, and I beg to differ on Greek and Latin beeing elitist bullshit...but I agree that some Latin/Greek geeks are a little...ehr...bullshit-inclined (I've met a few in the past). ;)

  48. Morning everyone - beautiful sunny day out there and me sick in bed, so if anyone (and that includes Jake OK?) wants to come round with some grapes, chocolate and booze, feel free...

That's a fab comment considering you were flagging, Nadine! Thanks. Images such as the sweater pics put together like that really do make the heart tingle but they make me feel better too, don't know why.

Welcome Alice and thank you so much for that beautiful comment - that's a wonderful tribute to Heath. It's good to gather here to talk about Heath and Jake.

Hi Paul - I agree that this film sounds too good not to be finished and if it can be a memorial to Heath then all the better. It will be very special to all of us.

I'll let you off the 'amazing' word, Xenia, as it's you. Having spent a wonderful time with you (and Jake!) you are an absolute master of languages and there is nothing geeky about you - you did squee a bit when you saw Jake though ;) xx

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thank you WDW, now I can read your great posts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Xenia. you might have misunderstand my comment about Latin and Greek studies being considered "elitist bullshit" - Im making fun of anti-intellectual attitudes towards classical education that is a strain of USAan thot and a product of the of "progressive (and public) education" movement of the '30s in USA, when Latin and Greek was dropped from high school curriculums.

Too off topic for more discussion, but this is no disrespect of these languages or classical studies, in fact, it is fairly well accepted, by now that in striving for good "public" education for all, there have been grevious losses - and it's a continuing concern.

Sorry to go on about this, hope I am making myself understood!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Morning Pia. I think it was clear what you meant. To think that there will be generations of children who will no longer enjoy the many hours standing in a class room conjugating Latin verbs. But seriously though, it is a loss, but perhaps the way we were taught it isn't.

To get back on topic.... hmmmm... Jake is hot (sorry best I can do!)

  53. I'll go OT for the last time. I swear. ;)
Pia, I was not so aware of the 'ostracism' of classical studies in liberal US education, but I knew you were joking somehow, you're too respectful and well-educated to say something so 'unilateral'.
But I can get a good idea of what you say if I think about a movie like "Death Poets Society"...

Ah that day in Rome WDW, if only we could turn back time...I squeed 'a bit' you say...o gosh I squeed much more than a bit haha...

Good WE to you all, I'm off for a couple of days, hope you'll feel better next week WDW, maybe you need more 'jaking'...:)
