While PoP gives us the slip (for now), a perfect moment recaptured

While I bubble and boil and hyperventilate in a bad way over the news (now confirmed by Variety) that Prince of Persia has now been pushed back to May 2010, I thought I'd beg your indulgence today for an indulgent 'cheer-myself-up' kind of post. While I heartily approve of Disney's desire to protect Prince of Persia at all costs (whether against rampaging transformers or potential strikes or because of wanting to spend more resources on complicated and breathtaking cgi), my initial response is still to return to Disney my collection of Finding Nemo plushies and even (but maybe not) my almost life-size Pluto. I wonder what Jake's response was...

So, during my Post-Pop-News-Blues last night, I tripped over something that is special to me. This recently uploaded video from Broadband TV takes a look at Movie Star Jake Gyllenhaal, mostly in his suit, tie or tux, on some of the most glamorous nights of his career. Film festivals and especially award shows dominate, particularly the event with the reddest carpet of them all - the Cannes International Film Festival.

And there, right at the end, is a moment I will never forget. For the first time, I can see on video the moment when Jake Gyllenhaal turned at the top of the steps of the Palais to point, wave and laugh at myself and my two friends who'd travelled to see Jake's Zodiac triumph. The initial cupped ear moment is missing but I am never ever going to forget being on the receiving end of this...

And while I'm having one of my 'Cannes moments', it's good to see that this is back again:

Picture from IHJ. This post is dedicated to my Cannes brother and sister and to Jake, without whom...

  1. Hey Kate, not the best way to start the day honestly (not because of the post that is wonderful, but because of PoP news...):/
I completely understand your disappointment even if maybe it was a little too optimistic on the part of the Didney to think to make it in one year...or maybe they just wanted to take time, complete the cast, begin to reharse and see what it could be...
What I can see is that they want this film to make A LOT of money and want to take the least amount of risk because, well, I guess no-body has money to waste, not even Disney...
TDK comes in mind, they began the casting, like, in 2006, right? To be out in theatres only in Summer 2008, and look what happened! :)

But God, it means a lot of time without Jake on the big screen, without Jake everywere on TV...

BTW, c'mon let's get us a better day...:)

  2. OK, we need to calm down. We have Brothers, we have Nailed, maybe he'll shoot PoP 2 or The Moon Project in between and in 2010 there'll be 2 huge movies with him.

And, I'll have time to finish the game;)

  3. orning Xenia! I was always very pleasantly happy that PoP would only take a year - I suppose it just wasn't to be. And after the Zodiac wait, I shouldn't be surprised. But I am feeling better about it this morning :D

Morning Zodiac! I do feel better now - it's good to know Brothers and (hopefully) Nailed will be around. And we heard from Ted and Lisa that Jake is definitely doing the Joe Namath movie and thre's the Moon thing. So not much to complain about really. Just disappointed! (I said that in a Gary Oldman Fifth Element kind of way...). Doing this post really cheered me up though :D I do wonder what Jake thinks about all this.

I'm gonna need that amount of time to finish the game...

    ReplyDelete
  4. See, now you have all the time to finish the game without killing the prince too often and becoming his personal guard. :o)
We don't know the other reasons Disney has and they won't make them public. At least it gives them more time for stunning cgi scenes.
Here the partial sun eclipse is cheering me up a bit. It's still hot here but we wait for thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon and evening. So the sky will cry about the delay as well.

  5. Morning T :D Disney had better pull all the stops out and give us a fabulous movie (and maybe they can get rid of some of the layers from Jake's costume ;D)

A partial sun eclipse? Wow! Much cooler here today - But it's Friday :D I'm trying to find a bright side...

  6. Just saw this: 'Finally some good news. Jake Gyllenhaal is so proud of his recently buffed biceps, says Star, that he has asked for assurance that at least 80% of his "Prince of Persia" costumes will be sleeveless. In other news, Gyllenhaal is now being managed by Mario Lopez.'

Never mind sleevless - what about chestless?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Partially chestless... maybe. :0) I hope he has enough sun lotion to protect himself. Looking like a lobster wouldn't be nice.

You should ask Disney to get some (living) props because of the delay. :0)

A friend sait that it's here hotter than in Morocco at the moment - up to 34°C. But a cold front is moving in. So I'll watch the clouds in the afternoon and evening because I know what that means. One tornado warning and a nearby touch down was enough when visiting a friend in the US - not even in the tornado alley.

  8. 2010? That seems so far away! And I presume, they mean summer of 2010. But if that means the film gets the best slot in that year, so be it.

"Brothers" looks really promising, I am so looking forward to this strong drama. The Cain & Abel reference is excellent.... oh, sorry, now I am referring to the old post - just got my macbook back (hooray!)... but I made the girl staff in applestore cried when I demanded to speak to a her manager. oh well, but she started it - she refused to hand back my mac, unless I show her a "photo ID". I was like, "what photo ID? no one mentioned any of such requirement! And I need my macbook back now so I can stalk Jake Gyllenhaal 24/7!!"

    OK, I didn't actually mention Jake... :P

I agree, we might even get to see the Joe Namath film first!

Jake is proud of his biceps! So are we, so are we.... I hope he remembers Fincher's advice about not over-buffing his thighs though... lol.

Have a good day everyone. TDK at IMAX for me tonight.

  9. I don't want him to get too
bicep-ish. I agree, tho. He should definitely wear chestless shirts. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hi T :D Lobster Jake would not be good - I volunteer to cover him in lots and lots of lotion :P

Watch those storms - I got caught in a twister once in the US and it was not fun.

Hey Winterbird :D I'm trying to be Stoical :) And good for you for standing up to the machinations of Apple! I've had a hard enough time with Microsoft. And now Disney's sticking its oar in.... Have a great IMAX night. I'm proud of Jake's biceps too :D

Hi there Anon :D Chestless shirts are a MUST! Disney, make it up to us - give the Prince less clothing!

  11. Hello everybody!!!

Really? That's so cool!! I'm so totally happy that you had a Jake moment! You certainly deserve it. I just hope I will be able see him in person (even from the distance) one day.

See, now you have all the time to finish the game without killing the prince too often and becoming his personal guard. :o)

Mee too! My Prince has resurrected so many times that I'm starting to call him Lazarus ,Op LOL

Never mind sleevless - what about chestless?

Now, THAT would be considering their audience's "needs". Disney is a friendly company. I'm sure they care about their audience's needs. Don't they?
(Sadly Disney doesn't do X rated movies or I would suggest clothesless... :O) LOL )

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hi Sara! That's so funny about your poor Prince! Mine isn't faring much better... At least he doesn't bruise easily.

I had a great time at Cannes - There are some posts here about it, if you go back to May last year. I'll never forget. And I am proof that you can have Jake moments! I'm lucky enough to have had a fair few.

Hmmmm - a clotheless prince - I like the way your mind's working :) After all, it is very hot in Morocco...

  13. Coming here always makes me feel better :D.

I take on board every positive comment about Prince of Persia and it just has to be fantastic now - no excuses Jerry!. But I'm just not looking forward to another year of no Jake movies. Other movies I can watch once, feel awed and move on but his movies surprise me and gets me totally involved in the story and characters. Work such as Rendition where I cared more for the story and the central character (Omar Metwally) than I did for Douglas Freeman.

Right about now, I'd take guest appearances on TV shows such as Entourage or a TV cooking show, even voice over work. Its an exciting time for our JBG - he can do anything he wants - just, please, don't give up the day job.... just yet. :DD

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi Sheba - Glad you feel better :D At least we can all cheer each other up... But I suppose, what with Brothers and Nailed (crossed fingers) next year and then PoP the next year, it spreads the riches out and who knows what else there'll be in 2010 - UMP, Namath and maybe a surprise or two. This could leave Jake time to make a guest appearance on Top Gear :D

Blowing up for a storm out there :\

  15. you are good to your "instant gratification" readership, WDW! - lovely compensation today for news of sensualO(hotness) deprivation - but Im sure you will keep us from wasting away while waiting -

in the meantime, what does "female skewing" mean? as in the below

"Counterprogramming in the heart of summer with female-skewing titles has become a potential goldmine, with Disney looking to continue that trend."

and while lensing in Morocco do they eat alot couscous, Jake and Jonathan Ross not too crazy about that, I gathered . .

I dont think I will have the stamina to read this post and watch videos until evening, the bicep talk already has me just about swooned out at my work desk.

    Thanks WDW. I think. :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Pia :D Nothing does like Cannes Jake when I'm feeling blue.

That's some expression - a 'female-skewering' movie! Not sure what that means exactly, but I reckon PoP could do the job.

I wonder if couscous and tangines is good for one's digestion while doing said 'female-skewering' action. I wouldn't mind spending some time thinking about Jake's biceps right now - sigh...

    Hope you're having a good day :D

    ReplyDelete
  17. Variety said "skewed", not "skewered", which makes more sense, of course, and sounds pretty hot.

sorry to nitpick but I would like to know exactly what disney is up to.

    skew (sky)
    v. skewed, skew·ing, skews
    v.intr.
    1. To take an oblique course or direction.
    2. To look obliquely or sideways.
    v.tr.
    1. To turn or place at an angle.
    2. To give a bias to; distort.
    adj.
    1. Placed or turned to one side; asymmetrical.
    2. Distorted or biased in meaning or effect.
    3. Having a part that diverges, as in gearing.
    4.
    a. Mathematics Neither parallel nor intersecting. Used of straight lines in space.
    b. Statistics Not symmetrical about the mean. Used of distributions.
    n.
An oblique or slanting movement, position, or direction.

[Middle English skewen, to escape, run sideways, from Old North French eskiuer, of Germanic origin.]

  18. Chuckle - freudian misreading of mine there, Pia :D I thought it said skewered. I suppose skewed means slanted towards female tastes although as this film is based on a videogame, which is, popular among males as well as females, I'd say PoP should be a pleaser for all. Unless they're saying that the best way to win round women to a videogame-inspired movie is to put Jake in it, I can't see it hurting. But, I agree, it's an odd choice of words. Surely all blockbusters have to attract men and women of every age or they're not a blockbuster?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm back! 1 month away, 1 month witout computer. It's been a while!

Anyway, shame about PoP but hopefully it'll be worth it-best not to rush the effects and post production as they'll be a big part of the film so worth doing right. But delaying a whole year semes a tad extreme. Let's just hope they finish all the filming (in the UK???) by late autumn, then there may be time for Jake to give us a small project to fill 2009 and the gap between Brothers and Nailed and PoP.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey LJF!! Great to see you, my friend, I hope you had a good trip all those miles away :D We missed you. The thought of a month without the internet... :\

I'm hoping PoP will be made well worth our wait and that we get some film surprises :D

  21. Kate darling!

You've made me very very happy with his gift, as happy as the day when it all happened. Am thinking of you & M & Jake & the unforgettable, extraordinary Cannes experience...

    Merci.

I guess they mean that they are casting handsome actors in action movies to attract women. Apparently women are not so driven towards action/adventure films... ::rolleyes:: Not that I'm complaining if it means having a shirtless Jake on the big screen.
(Are you going to buy the PoP action figures? Imagine that, you own Jake to play with!)

    See you on Monday :O)
    Have a Jake weekend!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ingy!! So good to see you and I have been thinking of you and M and Jake. I was so, so happy when I saw this video for the first time - just made me think we were there again, playing with Jake and blowing kisses at him :D You don't get too many moments that happy and so glad to have shared the moment with you xxx

Hi Sara :D I guess I can force myself to see an action movie with Jake in it - sacrifice, I know... Jake PoP figures! I can have them all over my desk at work :D Have a great weekend and see you Monday!

Hehe, I'm watching Top Gear (Best Of) right now with my little man who's chuckling quite a bit. How awesome would that be if jake was on it. Just saw Ewan McGreggor's score and even he wasn't happy with it (1.48). Love his beauty spot on his cheek and that grin. Uh oh, Hammy's just sunk his car boat LOL!

I've got one of those 'Red Letter' gifts and may just do some off-road 4-wheel driving.... I feel the need... the need for speed :DD

  25. NB. Plus, I love the video and the frog impersonation Jake did when he got his award.. he's adorable.:o))

three thirty, work accomplished, time for a glass of chardonay and watching the delish videos. omy, the tongue - I guess playing the cat licking up cream for his sis taught him how to enjoy his success. . .

the Cannes video was removed from my own files, Im SO GLAD to see it again, one of my favorites. it was a thrill to know that you guys were "playing" with Jake on the red carpet. almost, honestly! - like being there! unforgettable!

Haha, LOL Pia, I can just see young Jake on all fours with a bowl of milk! Yeah, success tastes great, don't it ;D Miaow, purr, purr.

  28. Hey, Sheba! There's a Stephen Vincent Benet short story based on an old folk tale called "King of the Cats". Orchestra leader is unbeknownst to all hiding his black silky tail and while conducting is given a message whereeupon he cries out. "The king of the cats is dead! Now I am king of the cats! ! ! " Perfect part for Jake.

Is there a photo cap of Jake doing this "now I am king of the cats" tongue bit WDW? :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi there everyone - I've been having a sort out of my Jake cupboard and filling up yet another scrapbook while Mr WDW just sits there with his motorbike magazines rolling his eyes!

So good to see you Sheba and Pia :D I missed the Top Gear tonight but I know the episode you mention off by heart, I'm so bad :D

Ahhh, Jake and his frog and cat with tongue impressions :P So sleek. Glad you enjoyed the Cannes video, Pia :)

    Heehee Amy! Good one :D

Not saying anything about PoP. Thanks for the glorious Cannes etc. vid, WDW *

  34. ratbags!! :( I missed Ewan on Top Gear?

Yeah Ruby, but you didn't miss much, however, it was quality not quantity. He did say a few bleeps but was quite composed while driving.

Speaking of cool cats, I will, from now on, imagine everytime Jake is presenting or receiving an award, that his tail is in his 'tux - truly, the King of the Cats and Prince of Purrrsia *major cheese* :DD

PoP has been pushed back to May 2010?!? I think somebody at that movie studio needs to be shown a magic trick involving a pencil! lol!

LMAO Amy, that's one of my favorite scenes that made me jump outta my seat. :DD

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey Nouskie *) So glad you liked the video - just glorious thinking back to that :D

hi Sheba :D Jake just has that 'cat got the cream' look about him sometimes and he just shines with it. That pencil scene... the second time, I knew it was coming and I just sank as low as I could into my seat :P

  36. "I'm just not looking forward to another year of no Jake movies."
    [Sheba]

It's not a year, Sheba. It's more like five months, as "Brothers" is set to debut this coming December 4. "Nailed" will be released sometime in 2009, but no exact month is given. If they release it next July, that's seven months between "Brothers" and "Nailed." Then, from "Nailed" to "Prince of Persia" there would be about ten months. By 2010, Jake will have had time to have more movies in the pipeline.

Ing, I love it that you're here! Please come back more often.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey Paul, 5 months too long. I guess I'm part of the 'intant gratification' crew too. It's tortuous to have to wait for Jake's big screen appearances. Now, if they had festivals that weren't outside :o( of all his movies I would be appeased. If the Disney people are meticulous like Fincher then I will be a very happy bunny :D

I'm hopeful for some theatre work from Jake for 2009, perhaps in London or Broadway... I'm not fussy (have passport, will travel) :DD

I agree Paul... it's a good place to be x

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good morning everyone - chucking it down out there - perfect weather for Jaking :D Rendition for me, I think.

Hi Paul :D Thanks heavens Brothers is looming closer on the horizon and I just hope we get some positive news soon on the Nailed distribution front. So good to see Ing here, definitely!

Morning Sheba! It does feel like torture having to wait for the unveiling of Jake as the Prince - and I was also looking forward to all the promo stuff, which will be on a different scale to that for Brothers and Nailed. But yes, more time for more projects. Jake can have a couple of weeks off at Christmas :DD

Have a great day everyone - so glad it's Saturday :)

  39. I came across this drawing recently of the Prince of Persia, and the hairstyle and goatee struck me as very beautiful (not to mention the attire (limited). ;) I love the forearm cuffs. Imagine Jake like this - I love the hairstyle, imagining it with Jake's beautiful hairline and profile - sort of like the character's but not as severe, away from the face. And the chest . . . ;)

I don't know if this person is a professional artist, or an amateur and video game fan, but I thought it was nice work. I thought you all here would appreciate it. If you haven't already seen it, enjoy! :)

And I would definitely approve of Jake's costume being modelled on this (all except the goatee :D). Fancy being ale to draw like that... Thanks very much for commenting and posting that anon.
