Prince of Persia at Comic-Con: Jake Gyllenhaal 'was bigger than his stunt doubles'

Yesterday, Jordan Mechner, Todd McFarlane and Nachie Castro (editor of the Disney book group) took to the Comic-Con stage to discuss the Prince of Persia grahic novel and, happily and inevitably, the movie that has inspired and shaped it. Castro: 'it’s going to blow everybody away'. And then there's the prince himself, Jake Gyllenhaal.

McFarlane of Jake: the 'dude’s in fantastic shape. My wife, always a big fan, said he went from handsome to stud. I think divorce papers are in order now. He’s acting the part, but he looks the part. It’s superheroic. He was bigger than his stunt doubles. We’ll have the toys, too!'

You can read a full account here. Many thanks to Monia for the heads up on the new Disney Prince of Persia webpage, complete with moving art.

  1. That's a fantastic poster! Jake joins the ranks of those like Douglas Fairbanks Jr and Rudolf Valentino who made swashbuckling film heroes into legends.

I never thought I'd say this, as I'm usually otherwise okay with longish hair, but the Prince's hair is a bit too long for my taste. Am I getting to be a cranky old man? :-(

  2. I love the PoP webpage and look forward to more stuff to be added in the months to come!

I love 'longish hair' Paul and I do like the Prince's hair but do think it's a bit too straight. I wish they could have let some of that thickness stay. I guess straight (and dare I say a bit stringy?) is more the appropriate style for the time and place of the Prince?!

Looking forward to more more more Prince!!

    :-)

  3. I love the PoP webpage too, and the article about the graphic novel. Can't wait to see it. I looooove Dastan's hair, it looks windblown. I like less beefcake and more badass. He's perfectly gorgeous and sexy in this poster IMO. Mesmerized everytime I look at it. :)

    Hi, WDaW!
Thank you very much for the great post yesterday on Heath!

I've just found this article on the paper today (well, actually my Mr. did and told me about it) and thought to let you know in case you haven't read.....

Which famous person is your all-time greatest crush?

I have never had a crush on someone unobtainable, though I did go into a cafĂ© the other day because the actor Jake Gyllenhaal was sitting in the window seat having a cup of coffee. I do think Lily Allen and I could be friends – I like her lyrics and her realism.

Amusing answer from Location x 3 woman, yay???

    Lol.

  7. I'm back - after a lovely day with the family in the hills.

Hi Paul! Definitely agree with you about the Valentino effect. I was such a fan of those old Arabian Nights movies and I think Jake is perfect to take this on. I wasn't keen on this hair on JJake but as the Prince I find I quite like it :D

Hey BBMISwear :D The webpage is so striking. As for the hair, I think it seems right for the prince. It's so exciting - but now I want more :D

Hi Anon! You describe it so well! I want to see much more of this prince - so sexy :)

Pickle, so good to see you!! Thanks for commenting. I remember the twitter from when Kirstie saw Jake in a Notting Hill cafe a few weeks ago. It obviously left a lasting impression - I can understand that :)

    Hi Sweetpea :D My pleasure!

Good to see you all. I've had a great weekend with the family. Tomorrow morning heading back down south - time to catch up. Thanks for keeping me company :)

  8. Good night , wet dark!

My wife, always a big fan, said he went from handsome to stud.
    Agree with her!hehehe

It's a great site. I want the first teaser trailer!

    IMDB:
Nailed (2009) (in production) .... Howard Birdwell

  9. I'm surprised they aren't having the cast take part in a panel discussion at Comic-Con. I would have thought so since this is the exact type of film for this event.

  10. Back home! After a long, long drive... putting my feet up :D

hi Monica! I agree with her too :D Unfortunately, proIMDb has just removed Nailed from being 'In Production' and now says it's of 'unknown status' - sigh...

Hi Anon :D I agree that Prince of Persia would have had a huge reception at Comic-Con. I believe that the reason is that the film is too far in the future and the hype would have peaked too soon. But at least we get little snippets. I think the time will pass quite quickly now, with all the bits and pieces we'll see.

I hope everyone's having a good Sunday! Time to catch up...

WDW, I saw the latest Harry Potter last night too - I just loved it, my favorite one so far (but then I say that after every one of them). More grownup, first kisses in magical towers, beautiful photography, Celtic mythic. I love seeing them mature in each movie.

Looking forward to more of the Prince!

  12. They had a panel for Iron Man 2 which is released almost the same time as Prince of Persia in May 2010, so I guess they could have had a panel for the film too.

I agree it would have been fun to see Jake at Comic-Con.

  13. Hi Minerva :D I'm glad you liked the film - I love your description of first kisses in magical towers. I think watching the characetrs (and actors) grow up has made the HP series for me.

I bet Jake would have loved it too, Shelly :D

  14. Iron Man does come out at the beginning of May 2010, but it is also a known quanity.
I think because it is the 2nd one it was expected to be there.

  15. What about the news in the New York Times that Jake's girlfriend has a First Fan in the Oval Office and that their photo is hanging in the Working Quarters of the West Wing?

Some slip in just for tours. Ms. Witherspoon, with her co-star Paul Rudd and her boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal, dropped in on Mr. Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. when she and Mr. Rudd were here filming a movie. (The White House photographer took a picture of the president and Ms. Witherspoon in the Oval Office; it hangs in the working quarters of the West Wing, out of view of most visitors.)

Hi Anon - That happened some time ago, when Reese was filming in DC. She's now filming in Philly - Thanks for the link :)
