[Update] Jordan Mechner's trailer commentary. Jake Gyllenhaal and an octopus celebrate Sesame Street's birthday. The Prince of Persia Q&As
[Update] I've updated the post tonight with two videos that present the Prince of Persia trailer accompanied by a truly fascinating commentary by PoP creator Jordan Mechner, courtesy of IGN. It will make you want to see the film more than ever.
I don't know what gets me more excited: the thought of Jake on Sesame Street or in POP. I just love the pictures with the squid, I couldn't stop giggling when I saw them. How does Jake manage to be so freaking adorable in a 2 second clip with no sound? It's astounding!
"He's got this sort of mischievous quality, this certain attitude and humor about him, and a vulnerability as well. You can see why the girl falls in love with him". That fits Jake to a T. And LOL at Jerry for being surprised that women flipped over the movie. How can he not know about the gyllenfactor? I thought that was one of the reasons he picked Jake for the role. Of course women will be flipping all over the place!!! Have you looked at him? Did you listen to that voice?
I'll surely be one of those flipping women. I just hope I can stop myself from litterally flipping in my seat. That would be quite embarrassing but it might happen. :DDD
Hi Olympia! I know, I'm conflicted too - that's why I have both a PoP (well several Pops!) and Sesame St avatar! Both are so sexy and adorable. I suppose adorable is the link.
I had a big laugh at the flipping women comment! How could Jerry think we wouldn't flip?! I'm gonna be flipping all over the place, like a bloody grounded fish! I love hearing Jerry and Jordan speak about Jake like this (what a lot of Js) - they obviously really admire him. A 'proper' actor who has pulled out all of the movie star stops. Wonderful. I'm glad that Jerry had the vision that he wanted Jake.
Another incidental thing I find interesting - PoP is all about the producer, the actor and the writer - where was the director for the Q&A?
Anyway, greetings to a fellow flipping woman!
Come on Lionsgate - give us some Brothers publicity!
Jake has some funny hair with the Octopus! super cute!
Jake definitely would add something to a videogame character and I love how they describe it here, shows that they know how to "make use" of Jake's talents :)
He has more muscles than his stunt double!
And yeah, Jerry B totally missed the real reason behind the "women flipped" ... heh, those female parents love it more than that apparent "my kid will enjoy it" reason...
I am getting used getting Jake news every day :) Thanks.
Hi Winterbird! That is very odd hair! I wonder when all this was filmed - maybe when the growing out PoP hair was going through its hat phase in the spring. The octopus loves Jake :D
I love how they describe Jake too - makes me smile. We are going to have lots of Jake news now, from here on! All movie news, just as it should be :) And I want to see Jake with more muppets - I'm getting greedy :D
Those flipping women comments definitely made me smile. I'm flipping already:) I shudder to think what I will be like by next May. The whole thing about making a "guys" movie which appeals more to women reminds me of how it went with Russell Crowe in Gladiator. Didn't quite get his appeal at the time but I have to say a lot of my friends did.
I am getting so tired of the lack of publicity for Brothers. It will come and go without much notice if they don't start the publicity machine soon. I don't understand it at all. It's a Jim Sheridan movie for god sake. I thought there would be a good buzz surrounding the movie by now.
I'm having online issues this evening so I'll have to wait til work tomorrow to take a look at the clip.
Yeay, another Flipper! Hi Carol :D It makes me smile to hear of 'guy movies' that then appeal to the women too. But to be sure, I think PoP has everything to offer all audiences, but especially those flipping women!
It's ridiculous the lack of publicity for Brothers. People are waiting to hear. The only talk about it at all seems to be coming from Tobey, Jake and Natalie fan sites! C'mon Lionsgate...
Olimpia stole my word *eh eh*!!! I was just about to say how freaking adorable that octopus looks like close to Jake. Only Jake could make a slimy octopus look adorable, that's for sure :) Thank you so much to you, WDW, and to IHJ for the wonderful screencaps :) ... and I can easily imagine Jake speaking with a British accent also between takes...!
PoP definitely has something to offer everyone but obviously more for some than others. I could gain a lot of brownie points with my OH for going to see the movie. I usually steer clear of that type of thing but I think he would see through my pretend lack of interest very fast!!!
I am really looking forward to seeing the trailer in all it's glory on the big screen. It's great that there is so much happening again and this is only the beginning:)
The lack of Brothers buzz is a complete mystery. I hope Lionsgate get their act together soon. The clock is most definitely ticking at this stage.
Hey! Waves to Zodiac! How are you doing, my friend? And my PoP friend! No sand monsters, eh....? I'm going to have to dig out the game again, I didn't do very well at all - I couldn't believe how fast you finished it! I remember so fondly the first game all those years ago - my very first computer game, and now look how the Prince has grown up! Good to see you!! xx
Hey Paola! Yep, an otopus next to Jake is a happy octopus :) Not my favourite of creatures but this one looks pretty cute. I know Jake likes to eat baby octopuses (octopi?) so I hope that subject didn't pop up...
Hey Carol - posting at the same time :D I fear that my OH would see straight through any feigned lack of interest :D But he does find it amusing as he remembers how I used to play the game. I'm looking forward to seeing the trailer on the big screen too - next week! I hope it shows before 2012 in GB/Ireland as well as in the US.
I would be surprised if it didn't show over here aswell before 2012. Especially since it was shown on British TV. Fingers crossed we won't be disappointed.
Hi there Monica :) I am really delighted by how many gamers have been won over by these trailers. The Q&A showed, I hope, that the movie has to be different from the game. No controlling console here. The Prince of Persia was always a different kind of hero and Jake matches him. I think Jerry had vision selecting Jake. I love the games and, because I'm also a fan of Jake (yes it's true), I can see that Jake is perfect for this quirky role - a mix of hero and fallible human being. I'm glad that other gamers are coming round. And the dedication that Jake showed to do this - amazing!
I find it intriguing that some gamers won't accept Jake because they see him solely in an 'indie' context while those who don't know the game question Jake's ethnicity or his accent, even though this fits perfectly with the blue-eyed, British-accented Prince of the games. i Suppose it just reflects how hard it is to make a game movie that pleases everyone. Jake is the kind of actor who can win people round though.
Whittering on... I'll shut up! I hope everyone's having a good evening :)
Wow, WDW, I didn't think it was possible that I'd want to see PoP more than I already do, but you are right, these new clips are very exciting. The action is incredible, not just one event, but many building upon the other. Jake is really, really gorgeous in this, I love Gemma's "wow" outfit too - she looks gorgeous in it. I love Alfred Molina in it too.
And Sesame Street - I do think Elmo beats Jake for the cute factor - but Jake has the sexy hunk factor going for him anyway. This promo clip is so very sweet - this is the one I saw, I thought I must have been seeing things, because I never saw it again, although my husband was watching with me and saw it also. I love when Elmo says "Yay Nature!" So cute.
Hi Bertie! Thanks so much for letting us know that this is the Sesame Street video you saw before on TV. I'm really glad it's out there now. I love it!
I totally agree about PoP. Seeing it all brought together and getting some idea of the thinking behind it and all the characters, it makes it so special. I really want to see more of Alfred Molina's character too. Gemma looks gorgeous.
I am so thankful for all you have posted here today WDW...it has been a crazy couple of days for me and my on line time has been close to ZERO. Not a good time to be away from the internet at all...so thank you for keeping us up to date on everything that I may have otherwise missed!!
The video with the screen by screen discussion with IGN was very interesting...but more special effects than we are already seeing?! This is soooo not my type of movie...LOL! But I love it already (I know...I'm not making much sense am I)?!
I am saving the huge amount of Q&A info you posted here to read tomorrow when I can really focus on it...thank you for compiling it for us...it was obviously a lot of work and I look forward to all the little tid bits.
Oh No! No news on the ostriches or camels yet?! LOL!!!
Flipping Women?! You Bet!!
And FINALLY The Sesame Street promo I have been trying to find for weeks! I love it! It's been quite frustrating because I've found clips with other celebs but not Jake - I was starting to think the Sesame Street marketing people didn't know what they were doing (or the opportunity they were missing here). There is a whole new target audience out here...they should be taking note!
Wow...it truly has been amazing what we have been experiencing in regard to Jake this week, hasn't it? From PoP to Sesame Street...I love the diversity!!
Note to Lionsgate: WTF?!?!
Sorry...just had to get that out.
Thanks again for all this WDW...I really need this week to end so I can get me some on line fun time. GRRRR. Is it Sunday yet?!
Cool PoP update, WD&W. Love every new glimpse we get after going for so long Jakeless. Is there any word on the run time? Given the scope of the story, it wouldn't surprise me if it came in over two hours.
Morning Get Real! The floodgates have opened on PoP for sure - I love we're going to get months of this (and lego) :D
Hi there BBMISwear :-) Very pleased to see you can pop in - I'm glad you're liking Jake with the octopus. It was so good to hear that this was the missing promo video.
Hi JoeAnn :D Jerry mentioned during the Q&A that the initial screening of the film was around 146 minutes (minus credits etc), but that this would change. He said he'd cut part of the beginning out to speed it up. I'm hoping this means we'll get lots of extras, deleted scenes etc. I would've thought this'll be a 2 hour movie at the end but I'd prefer something closer to the Lawrence of Arabia length (ie, so long they even give you an intermission on the DVD).
Good to see you, Kendra! They are adorable, aren't they? :D

I'm too late, but I'm here!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the trailers are out!
Everything looks great and it just makes me play the game again.

ReplyDeleteI hope you're right, Carol - I have everything crossed!
ReplyDeleteFans of the game in Brazil are anxious and have read much praise of Jake. I am impressed with the enormous amount of praise for the trailer and Jake.

I love The Game too.
ReplyDeleteI saw the trailer on Disney Channel!
Much better to see in a larger screen!
I'm looking forward to seeing it on a big screen too, Monica :)
ReplyDeleteI just updated the post to include, in two parts, a video commentary on the PoP trailer by Jordan Mechner himsef - it's fascinating!

Hi Trekfan! Yes, Jake is making an appearance on Sesame Street - that's what the pictures are from - and the pictures of Jake with Elmo the other day. Can't wait to see it :)
ReplyDeleteDo they still have those old school puppets on Sesame Street like Harry Monster and purple, two-headed guy? they were too funny
ReplyDelete
