Jake Gyllenhaal watches the hockey - Is Jake to film Jack the Giant Killer? - and PoP premiere news

I think that this post should be written by a couple of WDW's NE Americas readers because it includes mention of 'ice hockey' - a sport I know even less about than I do about tadpole racing. Neverthless, I shall persevere. Last night Jake Gyllenhaal was seen by a bunch of excited tweeters in Montreal watching the Cabs Caps versus the Habs. I do learn one thing from this - only teams that rhyme almost rhyme play against one another. Thanks to ET Canada, we also have a picture of what must have been a good moment (when the puck soared through the air before landing in the hoop).

It has been mentioned to me today by a friend who looked at this picture that Duncan Jones may have been tampering with Jake's ears. Surely not!

We have some intriguing possible news today in a throw away comment from The Playlist. They discuss a project set to film this summer in London and Iceland called Jack the Giant Killer and they drop this little teaser (in parentheses no less!): 'we've also heard that Jake Gyllenhaal may somehow be involved in the cast, file that one for later.'

So, not only may we see Jake in a 3D movie, we may also see him as a very large 3D giant! Or, I suppose, as a not very large 3d non-giant. One to watch certainly and hopefully The Playlist will give us more information out of brackets soon. If Jake's gonna be a giant this summer, we need to know about it.

This post is illustrated with some images of Prince Jake Dastan Gyllenhaal from a new Disney featurette for Prince of Persia which contains much that we've seen before but it's now set to Alanis Morisette's PoP theme. It's lovely to look at and listen to - even the non-shirt moments.

We've had Volcano Issues - while this did at least have the benefit of removing much of the pre-election shenanigans from the news, it has had the downside of disrupting the UK's entertainment schedules, including the Iron Man 2 premiere and something involving somebody called Miley something. The Prince of Persia London world premiere on 9 May may have been the next casualty to The Ash Cloud and it has indeed been removed from some listings. Grabbing the Mouse by the Ears, I asked Disney UK today if the premiere was going ahead as planned and they replied: 'I'll have news for you next week!' What one assumes from this is that they're watching over the weekend to see if the skies remain open and then they will confirm. And then Jake's appearance on the Jonathan Ross show on the 7 May can also be confirmed. If not, there will be words...

  1. "...watching the Cabs versus the Habs." You mean the Caps, right? :D The Washington Capitals were playing the Montreal Canadians (nicknamed Les Habitants, hence the Habs). :) It's so cool to see Jake enjoying my national sport, watching my favorite professional hockey team. Too bad they lost.

I just had to google tadpole racing because of you, I didn't know if that was a real thing! :DD I'm glad it's not a race for poor baby frogs but a kind of tricycle race.

That Jack the Giant Killer movie sounds intriguing but hey, I'm all for a 3D Jake, giant or regular!

  2. Hi Olympia! OMG I did get it wrong! That's what I mean - I need you and BBMISwear as the WDW Ice Hockey Correspondents :D I've amended/scrawled all over the post.

And OMG again! Tadpole racing really is a sport?! I thought it was something my sister and I did with baby frogs when we were toddlers!

I can deal with a 3D Giant Jake - in fact, I want one. Where can I get one?

    ReplyDelete
  3. LOL! I'm sorry but how do you get tadpoles to race? Don't they just go wherever they want? :D My sister, brother and I had pet frogs when we were little that we got as tadpoles and it was great to watch them transform but they didn't do much except swim around. :)

And yes a tadpole is also a kind of tricycle. We've both learned something today! Gyllenhaalism is very instructive. :)

I have no idea where I would put a giant Jake, I probably would have to keep it in the yard. I can only imagine what the neighboors would say... :DDD

  4. I seem to remember that we would just put them in a stream and try and urge our own tadpoles forwards! A bit like Pooh Sticks (do you ever play that?) but with tadpoles :D I'm always amazed at what I learn here!

A Giant Jake would be hard to house, that's true. I would've thought the neighbours would quite like him!

  5. Yet another thing I've learned today: how to play Pooh Sticks! OMG! There's even an annual World Poohsticks Championship! I love Google. :DD

  6. I grew up on Pooh Sticks - my dad - a huge Pooh fan! - played it with me all the time when we went out for long country walks when I was a child :) And I play it now and love to see little kids running back and forth across a bridge!

  7. oh.is this Jack and the Giant Killer thing going to be an animation?
if not, i hope he does voice acting for a nice animated film sometime.
or oooh an audio book(Maggie did one)!!!preferably The Catcher in The Rye as it's my favourite book.he has such a nice voice and he's so softspoken.it'd be awesome.

i saw the GQ Russia cover at IHJ and i approve wholeheartedly.way better than the US cover.
    his eyes are so blue.aaah

  9. Gosh WDW what would we do without you? I do hope one day someone does actually arrange for you to meet Jake (as long as you tell us all about it!) because you sure deserve it. You are his one woman UK publicity agent. Volunteer work huh? Always underestimated!

These pictures are wonderful, and Jack the Giant Killer sounds interesting. Iceland again! I do hope he is not the Giant though, even giant muscles dont really do it for me, I must say.

I know nothing about Ice Hockey except that the olympics were exciting and Chandler from Friends likes it. But it must be 'cooler' than basketball. ;) I like these pictures of him from games.

In the midst of my ramblings, I have a more serious request. It may have escaped notice among all the PoP-anticipation that we have a General Election coming up. I was wondering if you had ever blogged through a GE before? I'm sure you know more about this sort of thing than I do, but I was wondering if there was any chance this blog might remain impartial? I think it would be quite upsetting to bring politics to this ray of light and hope in some people's lives?

I apologise if I'm asking too much or the wrong way.

  10. Gretchen, did you see The Man who Walked Between the Towers? It's narrated by Jake and it's on Youtube:

It's amazing, I could listen to him talk for hours. I love his voice. And his hands too! :)

  11. Jack the Giant Killer???

I hope not. The plot seems to be a bomb!

I saw the video. They are beautiful images of Dastan and Tamina.
I like that she is crying. I believe it is an intense scene.

I love the voice of Allan Morissette.

Jonathan Ross? I do not like Jonathan Ross.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh my gosh i hope he is on Jonathon Ross!!!!!!!! A british chat show would be perfect

  13. Hello!

Hi Gretchen :D I don't think this is supposed to be animated. I'd love to hear Jake's voice for an animation but in the flesh is better :)

I Love the Russian GQ cover. And yet why do we not have a Jake GQ cover for the UK?

Thank you TD *) That would be lovely. Three years this weekend - I can hardly believe it. A labour of love :)

An election? Chuckle - yeah, I'd noticed. But there's no need to worry, TD. I am extremely politically... opinionated... and, as such, there's no place for my opinions on WDW. I'll keep them for rants in the pub with indulgent friends!

I love that so much, Olympia! I sometimes play that to fall asleep to when I'm troubled :)

Hi Monica! I quite like the sound of the Jack movie as it conjures up images of all the fairytales I grew up on. But this is a little rumour. We'll have to see what happens :D

The UK has few talkshows to offer actors - The JR SHow is one of the few and it's ending too. But I love it and I'll miss it. I hope everything goes ahead as planned and we see Jake on one of the last shows :) JR was so nice about Jake when Gemma was on.

    Hi Anon! Me too :D

  14. i did saw The Man who Walked Between the Towers, Olympia.it's lovely, i wish it was longer. :) i love how he says "free" and "Philippe"

  15. Gretchen, French is my first language so you can imagine how much I love hearing Jake say "Philippe Petit". *sigh* :)

    Night night!

  17. Sounds to me like Clash of the Titans. I think Joe Namath a more interesting project.

I know that JR was nice with Jake, but in my opinion he is boring.

  18. Finally had a chance to check out what's been going on the past two days. LMAO at the hockey update from a person who clearly doesn't understand this sport (and plainly admits it and looks for ice hockey correspondents from North America)! Too funny! I hope more pictures surface...I guess Duncan was there too. There's gotta be more pics! I thought of you immediately Olympia (of course...that team you love and we in Boston love to hate)!!

BTW - Boston Bruins kicking butt in their division - I'm not sure where Ottawa and Montreal are at in their divisions but I'm sure Olympia can fill us in (I'm sure most people here are waiting patiently for an update - LOL)!

I hope all this London stuff gets sorted out soon WDW - that was very cool that Disney got back to you. And an appearance on JR would be wonderful!! So much great stuff to come...it's almost May!

More busy days ahead for me but I'll always find time to at least stop by here...too much good stuff to miss!!

    Until next time... :-)

  19. Wow I just saw the GQ Russia cover and I'm so jealous. That cover is waaay better than the US one!

  20. Jake just does something with his eyes that makes you just melt. He did it in BBM and he did it here, he gives this sultry look like he's peering into your soul. I can't really describe it properly but I bet you all know what I mean.

  21. oh and Jake in 3D (THUD)

Wasn't it Ang Lee who got Jake into hockey. Didn't they go to a game while filming BBM? I remember reading it somewhere.

  22. Morning everyone! And Happy St George's Day to all the Englanders :D

I love listening to Jake's voice in that, Gretchen and Olympia :) And I know what you mean, Olympia, that's why I love to hear Jake speaking in an English accent too.

    Waves at TD!

Morning Monica :D Reading between what is only one line, I wonder if this would be a small role. I really want to know what the next Big Project is!

JR certainly isn't to everyone's taste. For me it usually depends on the guest. Jake helps!

Morning to my other Ice Hockey Correspondent!! :-) You mean my ignorance showed? I thought I hid it so well... Reminds me of the time when I was asked to referee a basketball game at school - when I hadn't a clue! I think I made it up as I went along.

Fingers crossed for Jake in London :D I'm so glad you were able to pop by :-)

It's a stunning cover, Leslie :D I'll put that in the post today.

I do know what you mean, Sweetpea :D Ang did indeed introduce Jake to ice hockey. You read it here, Sweetpea, there have been a couple of posts on it.

A beautiful day out there, and it's Friday and St George's day - I remember on this day a couple of years ago I saw a man in a suit of armour and someone else walking a meerkat. It's a day to expect the unepected... Have a good one :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kettle's on and I decided to pop by again...I'm spoiling myself! LOL! I posted here last night before watching the new PoP featurette in full because I thought I had already seen it. I have to say I really, really like this one...it's the most romantic PoP featurette and it's trying to suck in viewers like me...ha ha! Of course, with their leading man they already have me going over and over again come May 28th but all those sexy looks, remarks and 'never letting go' dramatic moments - *THUD* Now I'm really looking forward to this! Just had to share that.

Oh, and I forgot to complain about the GQ Russian cover...helllloooo?! Artistic Designers of magazines in America are you listening?! Do you NOT know what we like when it comes to magazine covers?! That is one helluva cover and as much as I like the American version it blows it out of the water! Now, who do I know in Russia...hmmmm....

Have a great day everyone. Keep us posted on news from London WDW!

    :-)

  24. Happy St Georges day WDW! Oh I really hope that the London premiere is happening, I was looking forward to going and enjoying the chaos and (possible) chance of seeing Jake in the flesh and trying not to faint, and then reading your much better, professional version of events!!

I also really hope he is on Jonathan Ross, loved watching it last time, and I think Wossy is a fan from what he said to Gemma:D

What did your friend mean about Jake's ears in the picture?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hi Guys, Jake could read to me all day, i dont care what it is books, bus time tables anything. I hope he is on JR last time was great & we've waited so long for him to be back.

    ReplyDelete
  26. As near as i can figure, 'ice hockey' is quite similar to football. Except it's done on ice skates and it's extremely rough, as in bashing each other around with fists and sticks and knocking each other's teeth out, broken noses, etc. Football, to my observation, is usually more subtle with it's violence. Most of the time....or very often.

I'm torn, WDW. While I do want Jake in the UK very much, I don't want Disney, etc. going thru unnecessary risks. As an alternative, tell Disney that we'd be happy to send a very small delegation to Spain to meet his plane and escort him to London. It would take several days, with traffic, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nearly hometime thank heavens - and it's such a beautiful day!

I'm having a cuppa, BBMISwear :-) It's a beautiful featurette - I love how they've mixed it with the song. And yeay for the never letting go bit! Me neither, Jake :DD

    Will do!

Thanks, Karen! Same to you :) I think it's gonna be ok so I look forward to hearing how you got on too! I'm not quite sure about the ears but it made me laugh and made me think how we all look at Jake in little different ways :)

Hi T! I know, it's been way too long. I hope we never have to wait this long again :)

Hey 15:07! Well, it's totally fine now! The wind's blown it away from us ow while at the same time giving us some lovely very warm sun :D Perfect Jake weather.

American Football is another mystery to me and it looks almost as rough as ice hockey. I think I like baseball :D

    I hope everyone's having a great Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's true, Anon 15:07, ice hockey can be a rough game but it is also a game of great skills with dazzling displays of puck handling, speed and strenght. For me there's something truly beautiful and quite exhilarating in a perfectly executed play, a spectacular goal or a save you thought would never be made. It's a wonderful sport. :)

Unfortunately, I think the media outside of Canada and some parts of the US talk about hockey mostly when a violent incident occurs and make it seem like the game is much more violent than it really is. Most of the time there is some level of roughness but players don't get hurt in violent incidents very often.

How is that for a ice hockey correspondent? :DDD

  29. What did your friend mean about Jake's ears in the picture?

Hehe, assuming that I am the friend WDW meant...
Well, I thought they look a little bit like jug ears... And I have only seen them looking like that when he is wearing that particular pair of sunshades... But there are no sunshades in the pic, so I was wondering if it was permanently now... :D :D :D
But for all his tiny imperfections I love him even more... He must be human after all... :D
Cross eyed and jug ears, Jake, you are my man... :D (it's a cute pic, though...)

Can't watch the featurette right now, but since WDW mentioned non-shirt moments, I think I might have seen those moments as screenshots... Well, I had to lie down for a bit...

    My word: cychummi
    Cychummi, cychummi, Jake is yummy...

Alright, I better shut up now.... :D

    ReplyDelete
  30. The PoP stuff just keeps coming! :D

Swooning hard at the shirtless pics, omg!

I think Jake looks amazing on the GQ Russia cover. Frankly better than the American one because they show is brilliant blue eyes.

Nice to see him at the hockey game.

I don't see any difference with Jake's ears. They look the same as in the pic on the side of the WDW home page from the Bafta's.

Not sure about the Jack the Giant Killer but we will have to wait and see for more info.

I really hope the UK PoP premiere and Wossy promotion happens. Enough with the volcano already...oy!

The updates have been fantastic as have your personal photos, WDW...thank you and everyone here. :)

  31. Oh is that what you meant Uli! I was trying to see if his ears were pierced or something! Thought maybe Duncan Jones had made him have studs in his ears for Source Code, silly me!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeay! Olympia, that is a fine piece of Ice Hockey Correspondence and I'm grateful for it. I think many of us over here only see it during the Winter Olympics when they kinda focus on people killing each other with big sticks. I feel your passion for the game and I love that :)

There must be something up with MY ears! Did I just hear Uli say that Jake had Uug ears?? Uli, make your way to that naughty step and you can't get off it til you say something nice about Jake's ears. Cross-eyed?? I'm tutting...

You will most certainly enjoy the featurette :DD

Hey there Get Real! I'm so glad you like all the updates - and my pics :DD There may be more of those this weekend as I'm out for a cultural day in a very beautiful part of Britain tomorrow.

Thanks for sticking up for Jake's ears!

  33. Hi Karen! Posting at the same time :D No, Uli's just been looking at Jake's ears with her eyes shut :D
