It's good to hear that all that training at the Beverly Hills Medical Center has paid off. Not surprisingly, not everyone was able to complete the 100-mile epic endurance race up and down Colorado's mountains yesterday but for those who fell by the wayside and ended up in the Aid Station, there was a sight there bound to cheer up anyone despite the size of their blisters or the state of their ligaments and muscles - Jake Gyllenhaal. Yes, Jake was strategically located in the Aid Station where, no doubt, he was a great help, handing out plasters, ointments and leg rubs accompanied by soothing words and smiles.
One runner tweeted: 'I ran 12 miles, almost 5000 ft elevation gain, and descent, got John to aid station before cutoff. Saw Jake Gyllenhaal there...very surreal.' Surreal is definitely one word for it, 'welcome' is another. Or 'hot'. Since yesterday, all is now quiet on the Gyllenfront with Jake Gyllenhaal possibly having moved on to witness further sporting marathons for his research - although it's hard to fathom how this event can be beaten.
This post features some of my favourite pictures of Jake and a plaster (bandaid). They're from July 2006.
Maggie's little brother
Maggie Gyllenhaal has been promoting the release of Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang over the last few days (which feels strange here as - in a reversal of how things normally happen - this film has been out on DVD in the UK for quite a while). As part of the promo, Maggie appeared on a couple of shows where the interviewers were all too keen to talk to her about her talented - and did I say hot? - sibling. On the Early Show last week, Maggie talked about how she had had a video chat with Jake via a new iPhone app and so had enjoyed seeing his face. While, no doubt, telling him to shave that fuzz off it. You can watch the video here.
Maggie also visited Regis and Kelly, the worst chat show that I have ever had to sit through in the name of Gyllenhaalicism. In this interview, Maggie was given the chance to defend herself against Jake's accusation that she had made him drink from a saucer of milk like a cat. No doubt words were later exchanged about this during another iPhone video chat. You can watch that video here but, be warned, it has Regis and Kelly in it.
Includes pictures from IHJ.
If I wasn't already a runner, this would be DAMN good incentive to take it up.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
I bet he's pretty nifty with a first aid kid.
kit too..
ReplyDelete*coughs*
See, renders me incoherent!
Really clever move from the organization there. I'm trying to picture all these exhausted, dehydrated, nearly fainting women that enter the Aid station. They try to stay strong and keep it together... and then they see Jake and their legs turn to jelly. *lol*
ReplyDeleteAwh, what a lovely moment there in Regis & Kelly. That brother-sister thing is so true. My brother is a couple of years younger than me and my only sibling, and though we're both in our twenties now I'll never stop calling him 'my little brother'. It's funny to imagine how a grown man like Jake will interact with his 'big sis' like my brother does with me.
Hi BR! Yeah, I can just imagine Jake helping out and raising morale amongst the heavily blistered. Now he's finished there he should come round here and make me some curative soup :D
ReplyDeleteHey Lady Ekster! Yeah, people collapse from exhaustion when really it's from seeing Jake in the recovery tent :D
The Maggie and Jake moments here from the videos were absolutely lovely - they are so close and I love how Peter is one of the gang now too. Jake is a very lucky man :)
"Jake was strategically located in the Aid Station"
ReplyDeleteYou. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding.
This is straight out of my fantasy! Or a rom-com. Or a porn movie.
Imagine collapsing and waking up to a very handsome orderly who then turns out to be Jake Gyllenhaal once your eyes shift into focus (and then passing out again).
Dammit, how come other people get to live out my fantasy?
I'm seriously taking up running now. And collapsing on purpose halfway through :D
Very cool that Jake and Peter are in Colorado! Love seeing the pics and reading all the sightings. So great that Jake was helping out the runners. I could not imagine seeing him as I was running that race! Thanks for all the updates!
ReplyDeleteI just got back from a long weekend in Chicago...such a fantastic city...and I saw The Bean! Made me think of Jake of course and got me excited for SC!
Awww, I love hearing Maggie and Jake talk about each other. So cool that they could video each other over the iphone. I saw a commercial about that...pretty awesome. :)
Hey Lena! It rally is a perfect fantasy. I actually wrote the first half of this post quite differently at first but then I thought I'd better change it in case it was taken literally. But I think after reading your comment in future I'll leave it be :) So thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteYep, it's not the finishing that counts, it's the collapsing halfway through :D
Hey! Good to see you Get REal - posting at the same time :D That's great you saw the Bean - I'll think of you now when I see that scene as well as Jake! This iPhone video call thing is amazing - particularly useful if you're stunning beautiful movie star siblings :)
ReplyDeletewhat would we do without modern technology?! Lovely to see that Maggie and Jake are so close and that they include her husband in their little 'gang'.
ReplyDeleteI'm never in the right place at the right time so would probably end up with the sweaty ugly man if I went for first aid!!! *LOL*
I'm off to Tunisia on Sunday for a week, (can't wait) just a pity it isn't Morocco but I can dream....
CS
Haha, well said WDW, collapsing FTW!
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm kinda intrigued what the original post was like :D
Also, I think it's wonderful how you always respond to every single person who comments, personally. That's really nice of you, and much appreciated! ;)
Hi Claire! OMG me too - 'Nurse Gyllenhaal is busy at the moment, you'll have to make do with Nurse Scabies'. Not good!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Tunisia! I've never been - do tell us all about it!
Thanks Lena! It's because I like to get to know everyone. It means a lot that readers take the trouble to post, especially when they pick a name. I like to chat :D When I'm not able to do it it's never through choice.
I'm definitely feeling much better now :)
Visited Jake's imbd page, he's one of the top 15 kissers in HW. Sorry Jake, Gemma's word isn't good enough although Heath did say you were a good kisser. But I need concrete proof, so pucker up and prove it to me.
ReplyDeleteHi Jake Fan! I saw that - I didn't think Gemma's 'he's all right' comment cut the mustard. Yes, we need to do some research :)
ReplyDeleteJust popping back in to share my excitement: they've been showing primetime tv-commercials for the PoP dvd/bluray tonight! Woohoo!
ReplyDelete(And while I'm going past the other comments I'm laughing out loud at how this Aid station story gets us all into fairy tale mood - please make that movie!)
Ooh! Lady Ekster - a PoP ad? Brilliant. And not like now. And I've ordered more copies than I can play :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is duelling the fantasy. And all this has been contributing to an idea I've had for a while. Gonna ruminate on it! Maybe we could have some fun being creative :)
Hope everyone's having a good day!
You know if its written down the inflection of a comment isn't there and also when people know something is good they can kid by saying - oh, it's just o.k. - and then everyone will laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe way Gemma has talked about Jake I'm pretty sure she thinks he
is a really good kisser.
I totally agree Anon - I was joking. Proving your point maybe :)
ReplyDeleteActually, this reminds me. In parts of the UK, especially the Estuary, 'all right' is as good a bit of praise as you're ever going to get. That and 'it's not bad'.
ReplyDeleteHello WDW and everyone
ReplyDeleteWow, going running and getting 'aided' by Jake :)
That bandaid picture, the plaster is from a blood test - I wonder if it was from a medical test prior to shooting Zodiac? Who knows.
Love the Early Show clip where Maggie shows her loving, protective side towards Jake. Maggie seems such a lovely person. Watched Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang on DVD with my teenager last week, enjoyed Maggie's performance. The movie is called Nanny McPhee Returns in the United States. I wonder why they re-named it, and why they delayed releasing it.
Cheers
Tui
Hi WDW! Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI don't like to run, I prefere Nordic Walking, but I would sacrifice myself, run like hell just to faint in Jake's arms, I would injure myself to ask Jake for some band-aid. Talking seriously - it's so sweet that Jake wants to be a part of that race, even if only in the medical tent.:)
I like very much his relationship with his parents and sister. I'm big sister myself, so I understand how important it is to stay close. Specially if he's alone and maybe lonely. I like him as an uncle. Lucky Ramona!
I want to share with you some private thing. Last Saturday I was at MUSE concert in my city - Cracow! Do you know them? They were just fantastic!
One more thing. :) I like very much those pictures of squatting Jake - by the car. Does anyone know what was he doing there? Was he hiding? :)
ReplyDeleteMorning everyone! Back at work and feeling much better :D
ReplyDeleteHi Tui! That is strange about the change of the title of Nanny McPhee - I don't understand why at all. I loved it and I have to admit it did make me tear up! I loved Maggie Smith in it :D
Hey Mermon! Nordic cross country sounds exhausting! I can't stand up on skis. I went skiing years ago and my instructor broke his leg - that kinda thing puts you off.
Jake obviously gets a huge amount fom his relationship with Maggie and Peter (and yes, to the anon poster on the last post, I am aware that Peter is Maggie's husband * rolls eyes *)
Love Muse!! I really want to see them at some time - I have all their albums.
The pics here are fun. The caption is that Jake was chatting to some friends but it looks like it could be to do with parking issues - Jake didn't have enough room to get out - or the people in the car couldn't. But I like the hiding idea best!
Have a good day everyone!
Glad you're feeling better today! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd totally YES! to this: And all this has been contributing to an idea I've had for a while. Gonna ruminate on it! Maybe we could have some fun being creative :)
Have a great day everybody!
Hi WDW, glad you're feeling better! Hope the Maggie and Jake loveliness was a cheering thing.
ReplyDeleteThe news re Jake is interesting and seems low-key. I must say I'm missing Dastan a lot, I need some innocent fun right now. Jake knows how valuable harmless heroics can be - his Presidential mission to cheer us all up in these tough times...gosh I need Dastan!
BTW, I finally saw Moon and am so impressed. Lovely film, atmospheric. I'm not actually a fan of Sam Rockwell so this was a big surprise.
Did you see that Doug Liman's next film is being reported as being 'very similar to Source Code'? Weird zeitgeist again..
TD
Thanks Lady Ekster! And goodie :D
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was, TD :D I miss Dastan too - I know Play will get the DVDs early but I just wonder how early - it can't come soon enough. I do agree - I don't think there's any tonic quite like Dastan :)
I did here that about SC - it's rather strange. I have a feeling that Jake wanted to do one scifi this year and he chose Duncan - probably because of Moon (which has made Doug's UMP arguably redundant, as we've discussed here). Interesting.
Ooh, I think it's about home time...
My word is surgicip - seems appropriate for this post :D
