Jake 'Crazy Mountain Man' Gyllenhaal back in NYC and Tent business

Jake Gyllenhaal is out of his cave and is back in New York City. Unfortunately, the pictures are still lacking, but more than one sighting of Jake in the city suggests that photos are a possibility. They are at least far more likely than if Jake continued to spend time rubbing sticks together in a gorge and eating rabbit, bat and berry pie. BUT, the tweets report that Jake has yet to shake off his sasquatch ways...

Facebook: 'Things in NY are looking up. Pavement show yesterday in Brooklyn. Saw the Gyllenhall siblings. Jake looked like a crazy mountain man.'

Twitter: 'Mr. Jake Gyllenhaal just walked by bearded out. Taller than I thought. Such is life in NYC. Jealous? lol'

Tall but 'bearded out' and 'a crazy mountain man'. Considering that it's been quite a while since we had a good look at Jake, it is very possible that the beard now reaches to his knees and has more than a few bells in it a la Brad. We must be strong.

Brokeback tents

The lovely James Franco has been talking about the Brokeback tent scenes. The only difficulty with this is that he's comparing Jack and Ennis in the tent to (and I shiver to say this) Edward and Jacob in Eclipse. Having seen Eclipse - under duress, I might mention - I can honestly say that I saw no comparison at all, not least because there were three people in the Eclipse tent, which, I would say, is one too many.

Talking of James Franco, Jake did, of course, state once that James had the perfect head.

As we head into the last hours of the poll, thanks to everyone for voting!

Includes pictures from IHJ.

  1. Okay. Let me say this: Every time I read "taller than I thought" in reference to Jake... I get all tingly, silly, giggly and what not. It's the truth. And this time, it affected my captcha too: "nicscrr". Exactly what my thoughts are reduced to at the moment. ;-)

So the beard is still there. I'm starting to think it'll still be there on October 2nd at the New Yorker Fest chat. Yep. Although I'd gladly lose that bet... What do you guys think?

As for stars spotting, I believe I did see Jupiter last night. Thanks again for the reminder, WDW. :-)

  2. The only crazy mountain men I have on mind right now are the Bhutan BBC team. The Tigers! Save em. What a great team. If Jake doesn't shave soon, I'll be downloading photos of tigers and clouded leopards instead; with beards, they look prettier than him.

    (only just though).

  4. Hi there Alejandra! It certainly makes a change from people saying shorter than they thought :D I'm thinking you may be right but I'm in denial. Sooner or later Naomi will tell him to get shorn.

Doesn't Jupiter look amazing? - and tonight too!

Hey TD! I missed that unfortunately so I'm relying on the iPlayer. I read about it - sounds incredible. Tonight has been scummy so I've not been able to do anything fun, but glad to get the post out :D

Hey Lucia! Oh the thought of the day when we will see Jake's bare cheeks... :D

  5. Hi!
It so nice and sweet that Jake and his sister Maggie entertain together, specially if he's still alone. I don't know Pavement band. But it looks like they made him go out from his cave, at least for a while.
I like the picture of Jake and Brat. It was time when I didn't know Jake and liked very much Brat. Then I stopped to like Brat because of Jennifer and I discovered Jake! And the happy time came to me.:)
I know Twilight saga and I like very much "tent scene" from Eclipse. But of course it's absolutely different story that BBM "tent scene". First of all Jacob and Edward don't love each other like Ennis and Jack and yes, like you said WDW there is a woman called Bella between them.:)

I don't have avatar yet. I gave up. They wanted too many private information from me.
I better leave Jake's photo for myself :)

  6. What a great first picture - very appropriate and one of my faves. :-)

But that Brad one... byebye sweet Dastan dreams, hello nightmares. The Pitt Beard has to be one of the most ugly things in the civilized world (sorry to any Brad fan out here ;)). I was wishing a fresh Jake pic for my birthday tomorrow, but after these updates I'll just wish for him to head back to his cave.

  7. Sorry Brad for calling you Brat :)

  8. Hi Mermon! It's lovely that Jake and Maggie (and Peter and Ramona) are spending so much tme together. There was a story that Maggie and Peter took Jake off to a barbers in NYC one time - maybe they'll do it again!

I love that picture of Jake and Brad. How can these big stars not warm to this young actor?

I totally agree about the Eclipse tent scebe. I saw nothing Brokebacky about it at all. I think I might be immune to the charms of Edward and that particular Jacob.

It is fitting, Lady Ekster! The Pitt Beard - ugh - horrible! And on such a beautiful face. I'm sure that Jake likes to live a private life, he's not vain etc, but take pity, Jake!!!!

Have a wonderful wonderful birthday tomorrow! It was my dad's today. I hope you're tidier than he is!

  9. I rather liked the idea of calling Brad, Brat! ;)

Wish I'd seen Jupiter though ;( sorry to have missed it. Will it still be bright at the weekend, do you think?

Gosh I do hope Jake shaves before we see photo of him.

  10. One of my favourite musicians at the moment, Angus Stone (from brother-sister duo "Angus & Julia Stone"), mentioned he takes "beard supplements" (organic and herbal, no doubt, judging from his very relaxed slur). And, apparently we recently celebrated "World Beard Day" down under (6 Sept). Yep, it's a "growing trend". I'm seeing beards all over the place nowadays. Made me think: maybe Jake's growing his beard for charity? There's "Movember" coming up (prostate cancer) and then "The Worlds' Greatest Shave" (leukaemia), to name but a few.
I must admit, the beard has grown on me. It's visceral. Whenever I see a bearded picture of Jake, I'm reminded of a song by the Evil Superstars (yes, it's one with "explicit lyrics", as in, it's kind of naughty).
And the mention of the Pavement gig... Gosh! Instant flashbacks! I think the last time I saw them live was at Pukkelpop, 1994. They've reunited and are touring now. I'll definitely try to catch them again if they come 'round my neck of the woods.

  11. James Franco's face always reminds me of the late and great Jeff Buckley, whom I was lucky enough to have a chat with after one of his gigs, back in 1992 - more flashbacks! Aarch! Does this make me feel young or old? I don't know... Fudge! Work, I must do! And what a load of "wishful thinking" about that tent scene. I don't get the analogy, dude. Sorry.

  14. Whatever the cause and desired effect of "the Jake beard", he's out of the running to pull a successful Joaquin "I'm Still Here" Phoenix stunt.

  15. Hi WDW and everyone just a quick stop by from Chicago airport where I'm heading to Vegas soon.

Just want to say thanks for a ll the wedding wishes. We had a great day.

Disappointed to hear the beard is still there:(

Will be back soon for a proper catch up on all I've been missing:)

Oh Jaya, you sound so "Pierrot".
Does that count as a clown comment? ;-)

  17. I'm sure that once the word is out that the gyllenhall siblings are walking the streets of NY some pap is going to find them. Let's home that Jake finds the razor you have left for him on your blog. Or that he remembers what one is and how to use it (I'm sure you'd be happy to help him shave if need be. You'd be willing to make that sacrifice, WDW. or write a book on how to shed beards, it is the season isn't it?)

I just hope that for the interview the beard is gone.

I just hope he doesn't end up looking like Joaquin Phoenix (worse than Brad P)

  18. Morning everyone!

Hi TD! I think it'll be bright for a few nights - just look to the left of the moon and you can't fail to miss it :D Brat Pitt - it has a ring to it...

Ooh Leminiscate - Jeff Buckley - what a wonderful musician. Love to hear things like that. Not old :) And yes agreed about the tent... Who'd have thought it was such a busy shaving time - so yes, maybe he'll shave it off for a good cause or - shudders - just half of it!

OMG Joaquin Phoenix - don't set me off on that one. May Jake never look like that!

Hi there Jaya and welcome! And thanks!... I think :D When Jake's AWOL for so long, we have to get imaginative and creative :) Very glad to hear the place makes you smile though - me too! Thanks for commenting :)

Yeay!!! Carol! I'm so glad you had a wonderful day. And have a great time in Vegas - I've stayed in the New York and the MGM Grand - say hello to them for me :) Had some amazing times there - thinking oysters and champagne in Caesar's Palace and helicopters into the Grand Canyon. Can't wait to hear all about it! Very glad you were able to pop by :D

Hi Sweetpea :D I really hope it's just a matter of time before the hairy disguise is rumbled and we get a pic or two :)

    Have a great day everyone!

  19. Oh, ouch! That comparison hurt! (Does he need glasses? A hearing aid? ;))

And please, Jake. Don't go Brad on us. I couldn't stand it (can't stand Brad...). Better go Bongo, if you need to go crazy for a while! ;D

Thanks for the laugh, WDW! :*

  20. Hi WDW and y'all,

Sorry for hoggin' the comments back there. All the flashbacks kind of got me all excited ;-)
Ah, Jeff Buckley... He spit on me. No, seriously. I saw him play at a very small club in the early nineties, and being petite and wanting to make sure I got a good view, I was standing right smack in front of him. Yep, got the Jeff's spit and sweat flung on my face... But it's still one of the most amazing concerts I've ever experienced. Angelic, is the word that comes to mind. What a musician indeed. Young then ey, nice one! Ta!
Honestly, I feel young. I'm so confused with the whole age thing... Who cares anyway ;-) Take care!

Ah,... I don't want Jake to shave. Sorry. I like the pet beard.

    cheers,
    Lemniscate

  21. Ooh Jake come and read the poll results - looks like we want you to do a musical.

Comparing Twilight to Brokeback...ah no, I don't think so.

Glad your wedding day went well, Carol.

    Cheers

  22. Hi everyone :D

Well, WDW, three def is one too many - even if it is only to keep you warm as in eclipse ... Yep I watched all three parts in a row forced to do so by my BFF - I might delete one F on that BFF -lol-

I can't wait for Jake to shave - really ... I don't mind a seven-day-shadow or something but more than that is too much for me.

A MUSICAL??? HELL NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! That would def one for me to pass on - I hate musicals like the devil that holy water.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I read an interview with Angelina, in which she said the only person she talks to is Brad. Those of you who disparage Brad should find some sympathy in your hearts for him. If he plays characters who are not particularly smart/clever/ethical/etc, remember that those are just roles. The real person behind them is probably a nice guy.

Having said that, I confess that my own facial hair is growing (I forget to shave more often now that I'm retired). Why shouldn't Jake have the freedom to wear a beard if he wants. It's not that unusual for young guys to try out facial hair for a while, even for a long while. Please have patience. If it's just a phase that Jake is going through, it will end at some point. If he decides that his beard is a keeper, you aren't going to change his mind. Just live with it! :-)

Last night I saw "The Town." It had a double link to jake: Chris Cooper, who was in two movies with Jake.

  24. I'm disappointed with the dvd of POPs. I expected a lot more extras, especially knowing that the movie is a blockbuster. Deserved more.
    I want more extras.

  25. I was missing. I'm busy and in trouble with my net.

    have a great day.

  26. @paulh WEEELLLLL ... he can decide to do so - I dont mind ... he is just not sexy then anymore ... I'm sure me and him can both live with that ;)

on a side note: As much as I read everywhere - that goes for most of his fans, not finding him sexy looking like Grizzly Adams or my dad

    ReplyDelete
  27. which is btw really the same to a great extend (meaning my dad and Grizzly Adams ;) )

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sasha.

Please understand that a guy like me might have a different perspective on facial hair. It grows despite one's occasionally fervent wish that it take a vacation occasionally. At times, we guys get tired of shaving and decide to just let the hair do what it wants. I suspect that that's what's going on with Jake, but maybe I'm wrong.

Most of Jake's future film roles will likely be clean-shaven ones, so you aren't really going to have to get used to him with a beard.

But none of that solves the existential problem of hair that just keeps growing! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  29. nawww @paulh yep tell me about as a woman I have probably more places to shave then just the facial fell ;) don't get me started on that :p

and there is always the laser for a long term hair extinction ;) if you have darker hair that is

  30. Hello! Sorry for being gone and missing much of the conversation - a busy day at work followed by bistro fish and chips :D

Good to see you Anna! Very glad that it gave you a laugh - although I gotta say, I like Brad, as many a David Fincher fan would. How I love Benjamin Button!

OMG, Lemniscate - Buckley spit! Ewww! But at an event like that it just seems part of it :D Like the idea of the beard being Jake's pet :)

Hi Tui! Yes, the results are in and Jake's got to exercise those vocal chords. Maybe the beard keeps them warm?

Sasha - that's amazing - watching all three in a row! I got through one just about and then only under duress! You made me laugh so much with the Grizzly Adams and your Dad comment - Thank you!

Hey Monica! I'm glad to see you back - I hope the net problems are sorted out. And yes about the extras. There is so much they could have done.

Hi there Paul! It is true indeed that we are as much a victim to the zealousness of Jake's hair as he is himself.... well, almost. But I do agree that most of his roles will call for a bare chin and so there is hope. As Mr WDW has a beard, I am kinda used to them. I agree about Brad :D

I hope everyone is having a good day :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL! Don't get me wrong, WDW, I like Brad - as an actor. As a drool object -- not so much. :)

  32. I can't believe I missed the beard poll. I'm with Lemniscate. Keep the beard Jake. Thinks of it as extra storage :D

Was listening to the late great Jeff Buckley last week. His voice was so pure and powerful. I could imagine it would be even better live.

I hope Jake had a wonderful time away from us to recharge his batteries so that we get the full undiluted Jake awesomasaurus during L&OD promo :D

  33. Hi everybody!
About beard - I wrote someday already - I think Jake hides behind his beard. And he's quite successful, we don't see him since long time. Maybe he's dressed up as a beggar and nobody recognize him. He's chased by the paparazzi, tweeters, fans, with his face shaved he feels like naked. When he has his beard he feels hidden.
I have it with my glasses on. I'm a shy person and I feel more comfortable with my glasses, a kind of hidden. They create a distance between me and people. Maybe that's the same with Jake.
Or maybe he will say goodbye to his facial hair when he falls in love. And now it is his ascetic style. You know, no sex life, life in cave.
Or maybe this beard is not real, a kind of wig. Maybe Jake removes it at home. :)
I'd rather want him to be happy and peaceful with beard then tired of attention without. Probable he just wants to be himself, not a sexy movie star with too much attention.
Hi Paulh! Nice surprise for me, that you are a man. I thought we are all women here. It is great that Jake has a male fan too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Anna! *)

Hey Sheba - love the Jake awesomasaurus. I can't wait to see that :D

Hi Mermon! I know just what you mean. Jake's said he uses hats as a disguise/protection and I'm exactly the same wth hats and sunglasses. I feel safe when I have a hat on. Jake's having a timeout and it's working which is great!

Jake has lots and lots of male fans I'm so glad to say :D Always always love to see Paul here - He's another of the lucky ones who has seen/met Jake :)

  35. "He's another of the lucky ones who has seen/met Jake :)"
Wow! I would like to hear about it. Or maybe I could read it somewhere in your posts. If so, please give me at least year or month so I could find it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Or maybe Paul is the one you mentioned not so long ago in one of your late posts?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Mermon! I haven't had an account of Paul's adventure here. Hopefully he can tell you about it. Paul saw Jake and the whole family at a poetry reading by Stephen and he sat next to Jake! It's a few years ago now. Jake had a very strange big fake Torso tattoo on his arm!

    ReplyDelete
  38. It sounds magical, sitting next to Jake and listen to his dad's poetry. Unbelievable!
Please Paul, share with us. Tell us your story and how Jake is from such a short distance.
I read about Stephen' poem about his daughter Maggie playing naked scenes and how her father felt about that. Was it that evening?
What an extraordinary family. I have to say it again.

  39. I'm loving all the beard talk! Come on, new pics, new pics. I want some more beard pics!

Yeah! And then there were two...
    Haha, extra storage? Brilliant.

Oh, Jeff Buckley... He always manages to sneak into my shuffle. Not a week goes by without hearing his beautiful voice.

Lovin' your "Jake awesomasaurus". Also looking forward to his LOAD promo. I bet he'll have to dodge lots of cheeky questions (again) with regards to this movie.
    Bring it on!
