Jake Gyllenhaal: 'I'm like Meatloaf'

In the latest interview for Love and Other Drugs, Jake Gyllenhaal revelas a little known fact: 'I’m like Meatloaf… so that says it all.' Jake and Anne Hathaway were talking to OK! in Australia and Anne revealed that her favourite scenes were those when she was in bed (she even fell asleep on occasion) but 'It was really surreal because I was actually lying in bed with Jake Gyllenhaal!' That does indeed put a colour on things.

I particularly liked this moment when Jake describes his favourite scene: 'I loved shooting every scene in this movie – that’s one of the rare experiences. I loved shooting the scene where Jamie says, ‘I love you’ to Annie’s character, Maggie. I thought that was a wonderful moment where we could have interpreted it in many ways. We found the humour in it and that was a real fun thing to do. She’s so funny, and she responds to me and I think I respond to her in a wonderful way.'

You can see another video interview with Jake and Anne here.

Meanwhile, Jake spent Wednesday lunchtime at M Cafe in LA, an eating den that features: 'Contemporary Macrobiotic Cuisine... balanced, nutritious, creative cooking which can be enjoyed daily by everyone, not just vegetarians or people with dietary restrictions. Building on the foundation of Michio Kushi, our chefs prepare each item fresh daily, using only the finest ingredients without any refined sugars, eggs, dairy, red meat or poultry.'

And finally...

Conojito was in the Big Smoke (Paddington station, London, to be precise) and he scored 10/10 for this sighting.

Many thanks to IHJ for the pictures and for the scan from the French Premiere magazine. And thanks to Conojito!

My review of Tron: Legacy is now up at MovieBrit.

you know one thing about hanging around with Jake is you'd never go hungry. He did say he is a foodie and I wouldn't mind taking a tour of all the best places to eat around the world. I've never been in a restaurant that didn't used refined sugars and is so healthy. I wasn't doing anything on Weds Jake :D

I hope you have a great birthday!

Sheesh! All of this responding to each other! Why don't they just give up the ghost and become a couple like we all think they should be anyway?!

Meat Loaf? I'm sure he meant the singer and not the entree, but...? Is this a reference to a specific song, or a collection of songs? Two that come to mind are "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" and "What About Love." I'm not all that familiar with Meat Loaf's lyrics so I guess I'll have to do a little research. ;)

Hi Sweetpea - Jake is a great guide to the restaurants of the world. I'm waiting for the book.

Hi Gyllenhaalisgr8! They'd make a gorgeous couple :D

Hey Susan! Ooh yes, I think he means the singer not the food :D I think it is for the 'I'd Do Anything for Love' (really like that song...). It did make me laugh!

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

Why would he be like Meatloaf, the singer?? I am very familiar with him/his songs (from Rocky Horror days), and I don't see a connection at all. Jake isn't overweight with stringy hair. Maybe he considers himself squished up meat and bread crumbs! Sorry, Jake, but than analogy eluded me completely!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

It's because he was asked if there was anything he wouldn't do for love and so that reminded Jake of Meat Loaf, Gyllenhaalisgr8 - otherwise, I agree, there aren't too many similarities!

gyllenhaalisgr8 said...

I hope he didn't mean "I would do anything for love", because that is a downer song, because HE WON'T DO THAT, whatever that is. But then, maybe it WAS Jake being his cute, obscure self. Now I've got Meatloaf CDs all over the floor. Who's gonna help me clean this mess up?!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

:DD But the 'I won't do that' was horrible stuff!

Sorry about the difficulties of posting your Meat Loaf autograph, Gyllenhaalisgr8 :( I must admit to owning all their albums. I love to listen to them as I drive :D

does Cillian Murphy really have a cameo in Tron Legacy?that's pretty much the only thing that can make me watch the film tbh.

ok i think i'm over L&OD promo and i'm ready for Source Code!bring it on.the promotion i mean. :]

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Gretchen! If he did I missed it - could've been when I took 40 winks...

I get what you're saying but LAOD isn't even out here yet! I want to know I can go and see it when I like - 12 days to go...

Gretchen said...

lol.i checked imdb and it is listed in Cillian's filmography, so i'll have to see it now i guess.dang

it's not out here either!that's actually one of the reasons why i'm tired of it.we don't even have a release day :(( it'll probably come out in february or march.if it even comes out.

well you've seen the movie anyway *pout* more than once too! *pouts more*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That's so rotten, not having a date, Gretchen :( I am very lucky. One of these days I may even be able to talk about it!

Darling Bluebell said...

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Tron! You were looking forward to that one so much! :(

Thanks for the poster Conojito! :) I'm secretly hoping for an LAOD poster to appear at the bus stop om the other side of the road. Then I could literally look at Jake all day... and not even be bothered by my conscience for calling in sick because I don't want to leave the house. *swoon*

Why don't they just give up the ghost and become a couple like we all think they should be anyway?!
LOL. Agreed, very much agreed!!

I wonder, who decides when to release a movie in the other countries. Producers of the movie or that's distribution politic in those countries. It's so stupid. We watch all that interviews, actors sweat all days long with journalists, falling almost asleep . Some people may watch it right away after watching promotion and others have to wait few months when promotion for next movie will start. I'm so tired because of it. And really upset. Why I could watch POP in Poland few days earlier than in USA and for LAOD I have to wait 4 months. When you are a fan of an actor, you watch movie production news for months, then you wait for promotion time. It's very exciting and exhausting and the same time. Then you want to watch a movie - to enjoy it and to free the tension :) And I can't do it with LAOD till February!

I found it very funny that Anne was sleeping on the set - for real in bed with Jake.

M Cafe in LA - they sit in the row there. I wonder how Jake can eat in peace between so many people knowing him and taking pictures. I wouldn't be able to digest properly, I would have peptic ulcer. It's easier when he's with someone he can talk to, but to be alone? I feel so strange to look at those pictures, like in a way guilty. But on the other hand I'm glad he doesn't care and lives as he wants to.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Lady Ekster! I'd love to see this poster. It's strange how there are none up in the theatres I go to. Thanks for that about Tron. I couldn't wait to see it and it was a huge disappointment. I may go and see it in a better theatre next week ( I saw it at a bad one) and see if that changes anything.

Morning Mermon! It annoys me so so much the difference in dates. A week is fine but four months?!

Saturday and the start of the Christmas hold and it's snowing a treat out there. Big snow. So much for Christmas shopping... Have a great Saturday!

The guy from CHUD has seen Source Code in a pre screening. He's not allowed to talk about it, but here are some remarks:

Tomas Mejor: Also, it screened last night. I saw it. Discuss or don't. Your choice.

TM:I loved Moon and am still looking forward to Mute.

Since I had to sign an NDA there's not much of anything I can say about it (it's still 6 months out so who knows what they might change anyhow). Believe me, I do have an opinion of what I saw. Hopefully there'll be a trailer sometime soon that I can comment on.

Interested to read the script now though.

TM:It would suck if this movie was just completely terrible, but if that's the case I sure hope it doesn't affect MUTE.

Night all! What a day - we're completely snowed in. I face a 10 mile walk (round trip) for the screening of King's speech tomorrow. Could be interesting... Been pushing abandoned cars out the way and all sorts today.

Birthday post to follow tomorrow!

Sorry Anon! I just found your comment in the spam filter - possibly due to the link. But thank you so much for it - that's fascinating to hear. I wonder what state it's in as it can't have any music yet.

Hi WDW,

Just popping my head in to wish Jake a Happy Birthday!

I've missed you whilst in exile, waiting for LAOD, but you've probably noticed I've been lurking!

Its good to have a break occasionally, its much easier to find the pleasurable entertainment in it all quicker.

I hope everyone has a great JakeDay and a lovely Christmas!

I must be mad Mermon! It's turned into a big adventure!I've never known anything like it here. We're not used to this in southern England. Jake needs to send us some warm LA sunshine. At least I have good boots...

Hmmm!"I'm like Meatloaf" could mean any of a number of things.

1. If Jake had written it, we would have a clue based on whether "Meetloaf" is capitalized. Capitalized would mean the singer, lower case would be the food item.

2. He may just mean that, as a human being, he's technicallly a piece of meat, as are we all, but finely tweaked so as to be appetizing and droolworthy.

3. If he means Meatloaf the singer, this could be a coded message that jake is under consideration for the cast of the 2012 remake of "Rocky Horror Picture Show," though I would rather have him play Brad than meatloaf.

4. It's also possible that he means meatloaf goes down easily and is appealing to everyone. It's malleable when it's raw, which is very much like the "I'm very trainable" mantra that Jake's character says many times during the movie.

5. A little more farfetched but still not impossible is that this is a coded message for the as-yet unannounced remake of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in which Jake (replacing Richard Dreyfus as the lead character) forms a replica of Devil's Tower with meatloaf rather than mashed potatoes. Carbs are unfashionable nowadays, so it was thought that a meat product would send a better message.

Okay, that's all for now. I need yo go take my medication. :-)
