What a night. While I wait for the coffee to have some affect and contemplate where in the office might be the most suitable place for a discreet nap, there's time for a look at what was for me the highlight in a ceremony that went on for an extraordinary amount of time: the Jake Gyllenhaal Bit.
Jake and Amy Adams (a nominee herself and wearing an extremely long dress)presented the awards for Best Documentary Short Subject and Best Live Action Short Film. The latter went to Luke Matheny for 'God of Love'. He also got one of the biggest laughs of the night. "I should have gotten a haircut."
As for the important stuff - what Jake was wearing - we hear from JJ that 'Jake wore a black made-to-measure Salvatore Ferragamo tuxedo, with double breasted jacket and gros grain details, paired with a pair of black leather Tramezza lace-up shoes.'
As mentioned in last night's update, Jake was able to share a moment with nominee Michelle Williams as well as her partner for the evening Busy Philipps.
Jake was also photographed with another of his co-stars, Gwyneth Paltrow, who had some rather unsettling news for Jake... 'Gwyneth Paltrow, apparently a bit nervous about performing the Oscar-nominated song from "Country Strong," crossed paths with Jake Gyllenhaal, about 30 minutes before Sunday's show started. "Hey, I'm sitting right behind you," he said. "Oh good, I'll throw up on you then," she replied.'
At 5:07pm (still a long, long way to go): 'There's major mingling inside the theatre now. On one side, Colin Firth kisses Amy Adams on the cheek. In the centre, Hugh Jackman is shown to his front-row seat before bouncing away. On the other side, Jake Gyllenhaal greets Marisa Tomei and Hilary Swank. "We're sitting next to each other," Swank excitedly tell Gyllenhaal.' Lucky Hilary! There were some other familiar faces too.
As for the Oscars themselves, take a look here at the opening skit by James Franco an Anne Hathaway. It's a rusty version but well worth a look if you haven't seen it.
Many thanks to IHJ for these wonderful pictures - there are lots more there.

Morning all! What a night... Is it home time yet?
Seeing Jake with Michelle still makes me a bit emotional...
Is that David O. Russell next to Jake with the black framed glasses? I can't be sure.
You are brave to stay up til Jake appeared, WDW!
Good to see you Winterbird! I know, I must've been crazy as it was rather dull! Unfortunately my feed froze during Jake's bit so I only got a moment or two of it - but lovely to see him, live as it were.
That's RDJ looking cool and learned!
Wow. That picture. That expression. That knocked me for a loop this morning. *sigh*
I'm not sure of Michelle's history of attending or being nominated for the Oscars since February 2006 when she attended with Heath for Brokeback (does anyone know?) but when there was a shot of her pulling up in her car looking out the window my heart skipped a few beats - and then a woman's hand reached over to her in the car and grabbed and held her hand. The first thing I thought was I bet that is Busy attending with her again like she did the Globes - I so hope so, how sweet. A bit later there was a shot of Michelle stepping on to the start of the red carpet with an expression I couldn't read and there was Busy right beside her. The two of them holding hands very tightly and walking the start of the carpet - they did not let go. Busy stayed with her the whole walk and just waited on the side for her while Michelle talked to press and posed for photos and then joined her side again. What a friend that woman has been to her. I literally started to cry (and this was very, very early in the night). And seeing Michelle right up front in the theater just like...if I felt like this I can't even imagine how she felt.
But then...that picture...that embrace and his expression. Waterworks again (at 6:00AM not less). We know what they were thinking about and...I don't know. I'm rambling.
Sorry...maybe a little more sleep would help me keep my emotions in check! I know I'm rambling a bit but I figured a few people here would totally get where I'm coming from. I guess I'll go look at more pictures and inject a lot of caffeine.
Thanks for all the updates WDW.
Thanks for all the lovely photos, WDW! I watched the show live and of course there just wasn't enough Jake, so all of those candid and backstage moments help give a better idea of what the evening was like from his perspective.
BBMIswear, I totally get where you're coming from.
There were two commercials for Source Code during the red carpet pre-show, so I guess (hope?!) the promotion for it will really be ramping up now.
Gotta run - I will be useless at work today after such a late night, but I suppose I have to show up anyway. :)
He was seen talking with Taylor Swift in "hushed tones" at the Vanity Fair party. They left separately though.
The pictures with Michelle are v. touching!
Hello!
Your blog is perfect! :)
Is there any pictures of Anne and Jake together?
I was looking for Jake but except for when he was on stage I never saw him. I did see the camera go to Hillary but I never saw Jake sitting near her.
I love the pic of Michelle and Jake, it warmed my heart then they hugged.
Thanks for the pics and video. I loved the opening number

Hello WDW...
I just finished watching the Oscars, and it was really fun and amazing... Lots of good things... And so many people I love...
Jake was so gorgeous, but yes, there's so not enough of Jake...
Annie's singing was great and funny, she's just lovely there, but I think James was a little bit dull..
I think Sandra Bullock did the best presenting.
I love that pic with Jake and RDJ, RDJ was amazing too!
The pic with Michelle just showed how close their relationship is.
Thanks for all these wonderful updates WDW!!
OH... And I'm waiting for the moment when Jake will stand there on the stage receiving his award... I hope that day will come soon... :D
Hi! It's been a long day. I slept only 4 hours, not even watching Oscars. Just red carpet and then again the end of the event. Hard time at work, coffee didn't help. I wonder how you, watching all night were able to work today.
WDW - thank you for all the nice picture, links, funny beginning of your post. Jake and Michelle - sweet together. Very moving picture, I know what you meant BBMISwear.
Jake looked dashing and relaxed - from the pictures. I still didn't have a chance to see anything live of him.
Seems like nobody was able to see Jake in the audience. He supposed to be behind Gwyneth, at Hillary Swank's side, but camera didn't show him, as people say. (I didn't see anything). So maybe he was backstage all the time.
I like his picture with Robert DJ. They're looking good together. They could play again in the same movie.
Opening Oscars skit - fine and funny.
I KNEW seeing Jake in a tux being his perfect, glamorous self would cheer me up. :-D What a sight for sore eyes...
I adore the pics with Michelle and RDJ. Tiny treasures to enjoy for a long time. :)
Thank you for such a fast post WDW! I'm so happy for Colin and Natalie. Saw both movies a few weeks ago (finally!) and was blown away by them.
A big hug to all of you! It feels so good to have a minute to visit WDW. :)
Hello everyone! Getting very sleepy now... Thanks for all the wonderful comments!
Thanks for sharing that BBMISwear :-) That's quite a support network Michelle has and it was wonderful to see it in force during the Oscars.
That's great about the SC TV spots, Anon!
I don't think there are any pictures of Jake and Anne together, 15:09, maybe some will turn up from the VF party - and thank you!
Good to see you Lady Ekster!
Waves to Serene Hill, Mermon and Sweetpea :)
Jake should have been the one to hose with Anne. He actually has chemistry with her AND he's a natural in front of an audience/camera.
It would have been an entertaining show with those two, instead of that douche Franco.
*host*
It makes me feel so mushy seeing that still with Jake and Michelle. They look as if they share a wonderful friendship together!
Anyway Jake was the icing on the cake for Oscar night, I'm a sucker for movies and I think Anne did a great job as host, and I loved how she always hooted for the presenter as they took center stage!
Morning everyone! And welcome to March :)
Hi Shelly - I was disappointed by James. It was good he had Anne with him for sparkle. I think Jake would be good but I think the Academy needs to decide if it wants an actor or a presenter. Also makes me realise what a bloody good job Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry do with award shows in the UK!
I liked that too, Georgie!
Have a lovely day everyone!
