Source Code has been passed by the British Board of of Film Classification for its release on 1 April. Rather surprisingly for a film about a train blowing up every 8 minutes, it's been given a 12A certificate, and this is for 'one use of strong language and moderate threat'. This doesn't necessarily tally with tales of models of Jake Gyllenhaal as Colter Stevens in bits and handless but it does at least mean a wider audience as well as the suggestion that the focus is on story rather than gore.
The other news from this is that Source Code will be just 93 minutes and 13 seconds. I could have done with at least another half hour but, again, it may mean tight, edge of your seat plotting. Thanks to friends at Bleeding Cool for the heads up!
Talking of Jake making movies, David Fincher is getting very close to winning, I hope, his Oscar for directing Social Network. Fincher has an interview that appears in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter and in it he describes the reason for his big fallout with Sony during the production of Zodiac. At the time I remember hearing that it was to do with the length of the film. However, David tells us that it was actually because of the casting. Fincher toughed it out for the actors he wanted. And anyone who has seen this critically acclaimed film would realise that the combination of Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo was inspired. The fact that this film did so poorly at the box office in comparison to other Fincher movies will remain a mystery long after everyone knows just who the Zodiac was... Fincher tells us that for Zodiac he was told to get 'Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise'.
And finally...
Jake Gyllenhaal is back in NYC and doing his best to improve his disguise. According to People 'Jake Gyllenhaal and Zac Efron bumped into each other outside the Solstice Sunglass Boutique in New York. According to a source, the guys both tried on the same shades while shopping separately. Gyllenhaal was there first and was soft-spoken and friendly while browsing the frames, the source says.'
As we know, Jake has been known to text on the subway while wearing sunglasses - something no non-movie star could ever accomplish without years of training for a movie star diploma. Gemma Arterton once teased Jake for wearing his sunnies inside: 'I used to say 'Stop wearing sunglasses indoors,' and he'd say: 'You little commoner'. He, therefore, needs more sunglasses than most. And it does make a change from buying coffee.
Many thanks to ManMadeMovies, IHJ and BBMISwear for the pictures/scans!
Hmmm... Shopping for sunglasses... Could it be for a role? (Makes me think of Anne H. shopping for bras for her character in LAOD). I have to say I see sunglasses in Rock of Ages, definitely!
ReplyDeleteAnd just to clarify, I am as enthusiastic about the possibility of ROA as I am with the Chinese Wall movie. Yep, I want him in that one too! I'm still not betting on ROA but I've started looking for pennies in my pocket. :-D
Finally, Russel Crowe and Tom Cruise for Zodiac? That would have never been the same. Maybe more people would have seen it, but it wouldn't be as good. JMHO.
Hi! Source Code seems certainly too short for me, just like you wrote WDW. With fast action, explosions every 8 minutes, it barely begun, and already be over:) And not having any other Jake's movie to wait for - I would rather spend more time on SC.
ReplyDeleteBut, well I don't complain, at least we will have a lot promotion's interviews.
I came in that link about POP, such a nice recollection of last May and Prince Dastan.
I'm glad we had new sight of Jake buying sunglasses. I'm afraid Alejandra -is not for a movie but for a constant disguise :)If it makes him feel more cool, comfortable and hidden - that's great. Actually we don't know if he bought them or not. Do we?
Mermon, I wasn't too serious about the sunglasses. But let's just say: if he had been shopping for a hat (which he also uses to "hide"), I wouldn't have said "Ooh, for ROA!".
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think Jake likes to hide that much, really. Just look cool maybe. ;-)
I wonder if they ever saw each other or talked for a bit. Is Jake going to be at the Oscars, perhaps presenting?
ReplyDeleteHi Alejandra! Who knows... maybe Rock of Ages will happen one of these days. And I definitely like the sound of the Chinese Wall movie even more.
ReplyDeleteZodiac would most certianly not have been so good...
Hey Mermon! It does seem too short, I'll just take what I can get.
Hi 21:26 - I hope Jake does present. Fingers crossed.
In the last picture - the one with Jake riding the bike - he has a necklace on (that I see him wear quite often). Does anyone know where he got it and what it means? I am just curious since he seems to wear it all the time for a few years now.
ReplyDeleteNice article and I absolutely loved Zodiac. I am glad Fincher fought for the actors he wanted.
Hi WDW and all,
ReplyDeleteWe have a saying here "What's good, when brief, is twice as good". So I hope this will be the case.
I'm looking forward to know about any knew project too.
What about the Stephen King's one? Was it just the writer's choice?
I can't envision Zodiac without Jake and Downey. They were great. And I wish Fincher wins an Oscar.
Good Night!
Hi Margot! Jake seems to have quite a few pieces of jewellery with sentimental value. I think this was a necklace his mum gave him :)
ReplyDeleteHeyEureka and happy birthday for yesterday! I think The Stand was just Stephen King's wishful thinking but good to hear it. I do agree with that saying by the way :)
I so want Fincher to win!
This new Google Blogger sign in is a pain :(
ReplyDeleteI have it all planned for Jake, WDW. First, shoot ROA in May. Then pack and go to China. Easy. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks WDW!
ReplyDeleteI had a lovely Birthday. ;o)
Yes, Blogger has changed the steps....
Alejandra, I know you were joking, so was I :)
ReplyDeleteI can see your love for ROA is big and the idea of Jake in it excites you very much. I must admit after that previous WDW post about Jake's talents - I also may create some excitement just thinking about that. I believe Jake would like a singing role too.
@Mermon It is my inability to picture him in a musical that makes the whole thing more and more exciting for me, I guess. Rock star aura and all, it goes beyond wild dreams, I think.
ReplyDeleteNothing to do but wait. I can do that. :-)
PS: Happy belated Birthday, Eureka. xoxo
I remember an interview with Fincher in which he spoke about it. Jake also said in an interview about it.
ReplyDeleteJake also said that he and Fincher were already trying to work together for a long time. And one of the first things that Fincher did was send a thousand pages of material with all the information about the case, photographs, police reports ...
I hope to see them working together in the future.
Can you imagine those other actors in Zodiac instead of the ones Fincher chose? Yikes! Horrible! (Not horrible people or anything just horrible choices for these particular roles - IMHO).
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonder about the lower box office numbers for Zodiac but I have to guess it is the intensity/scariness of the subject matter. As I've told many people (Jake included!) I would have never gone to that movie (alone, at night, numerous times mind you) if Jake wasn't in it. It's such a great movie but much to scary for my usual taste. If there are others that feel like me and didn't have their favorite actor starring in it they may have said "no can do".
Oh, and 93 mins 13 secs for SC?! Nooooooo! Too short too short too short! *tries not to complain to much*
:-)
Well, my first reaction to the reported shortness of Source Code is disappointment. :( Therefore I am consoling myself with the thought that perhaps the deficit will be made up with some really cool, numerous, and LENGTHY, special features. :)
ReplyDelete@Alejandra, you've got me rooting for ROA to happen! Until we start hearing differently, I hope that's the next one...
Susan
wow, texting with sun glasses on. That IS impressive. That alone is worth an Oscar
ReplyDeleteMonika
Morning everyone!
ReplyDeleteWaves to Eureka, Alejandra and Mermon!
Hi Monica - I remember that too. And I did like the story of how Jennifer Aniston was also instrumental in bringing Jake and David together :D
They would have been so badly suited, BBMISwear :-) Just the thought... But it shows what a master Fincher is - he got the casting spot on. I cant understand it but I've never found Zodiac scary, even though I scare so easily. Mr WDW told me that he would never see it because it was about a serial killer but then when I coerced him (ahem), he really, really liked it, so much so that I caught him once listening to the commentary!
Hi Susan! Well, it will leave an awful lot of room for goodies - so fingers crossed. And Duncan's the type of director to deliver them, I'm sure :)
Hi Monika :)
Have a good day everyone!
Hi WDW, it's been sooo long... I have lots of things to catch up here.
ReplyDeleteSource Code will only be an hour and half, what...?, seems so short, LAOD is 2 hours, right? But come to think about it, in that 90 minutes, Jake will have around 11 times of the same explosion over and over again... Must be really mind blowing.
Still no news for Jake's new project :(??? I like the idea of Jake trying a horror genre, and musical would be nice too, just cross our fingers!
Anyway, I got my Jarhead DVD delivered yesterday, ah, splendid, but unfortunately my DVD isn't a multiregional one so I have to watch it on my small notebook screen :( what a shame... but the movie is really good, the special feature is very delighting.
Next will be LAOD DVD!!! And then Source Code release!!
Thanks for the posts WDW, always nice to be back here...
Hi! I forgot to mention, that I like that last picture of Jake on his bicycle. It's very hot for me. The mixture of facial hair and chest hair going together with physical effort is very appealing to me :)...sigh
ReplyDeleteGood to see you, Serene! I'm glad you can see Jarhead. Not long now for the LAOD DVD, although I have it on order from the US and will probably take an age...
ReplyDeleteHi Mermon! I love that picture and picked it very carefully :)
