Late to post tonight for a very good reason. With stellar thanks to Bleeding Cool, I saw Source Code tonight at a big screening in London's West End. I'll be posting a full review of the film on BC in the next day or two but I will say here and now that, without doubt, Source Code will stand out as one of Jake Gyllenhaal's finest performances, not to mention one of his finest films. I'm talking top one or two here. My expectations were huge and yet they were surpassed. I'm very proud of Jake for what he's done and thrilled for Duncan Jones.
To celebrate, here are relaxed interviews with Jake and Duncan from Thompson on Hollywood. Many thanks to Man Made Movies for letting me know about these.
And finally...
Spring has arrived in London. I'll be posting a London interlude but as a taster here's St Paul's Cathedral in bloom, with thanks to Anouska who turned a great day into a perfect one.
Hello! What a day.... Source Code is bloody fantastic!! I'm never gonna sleep.
ReplyDeleteWDW! I'm so happy for you! Lucky you! :)
ReplyDeleteI suspected it could be that good. It was so much confidence in Jake regarding that movie and viewers took that movie so well.
Now I wonder on which place in my heart SC will be.
Those three Jake-Duncan's interviews are great. As I said it probably before, I like them together, though they are so different, they seem to like each other with huge respect for their talents. I would gladly see the other movie, they could make together, just from hearing about SC and watching them interacting.
Despite your huge excitement, WDW - sleep well and dream about Colter rescuing you from a danger. Good night!
WDW, you lucky lucky _*&%@#_!! I new it would be bloody fantastic! I'm so happy for you! Don't you dare put any spoilers in your review! I'm counting the days until I can see it myself and the waiting is killing me.
ReplyDeleteSusan
I'll await your review, WDW. And I am so pleased that you were very impressed! :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! Great you got to see it, I cant wait to see it now even more than before!!!
ReplyDeleteHi WDW!!
ReplyDeleteThat was sure one BIG great adventure... You're really lucky there!
Can't wait for your review, but please make it not spoilery :)
I don't know how long I will have to wait for SC to get here, it may not be coming at all:'''(, so I hope the DVD will come out not so long after...
Thanks for sharing your great adventure WDW!!!
Yay!! So happy you loved it as much as it sounds like you did!! Can't wait to hear more!! I'm counting the days until I get to see it and all these vid clips is not helping in the patience department.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of - these Thompson on Hollywood vids are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! One viewing of this interview is not enough - I will be going back for a re-watch in the morning. Wonderful.
Congrats WDW - can't wait to hear (read) more!!
:-)
Morning everyone! And it's fair to say that, because of Source Code, I didn't sleep a wink last night. That film is stuck in a loup in my mind! I'm desperate to see it again!
ReplyDeleteMorning Mermon!
No worries, Susan! I think with this film it's really really important to avoid spoilers and I'm very aware of that. It's great that this time there's only two weeks or so to wait til it comes out - I had to wait almost two months after LAOD and it drove me mad.
Hi there Karen! Hope you and the little one are doing well :D
Morning BBMISwear :-) It was fantastic. My initial response to it was greater than for any of Jake's films since Zodiac.
Back to reality today and a horrible day ahead... But every time I stop and think I see Coulter!
I think travelling home from London in a train didn't help...
Wow WDW!
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic.... 20th April is the opening here. Looking forward to this date. I will have to be careful with spoilers.
I'm at work and not able to watch the vids. I'll I have to wait till this afternoon... can't wait, can't wait. ;o)
Zodiac is still in the top of my list so is good to hear you say SC it's there.
Read you later!
I have already seen your tweet saying that you didn't get a drop of sleep last time after seeing SC! No wonder baby, go girl go!
ReplyDeleteSometimes watching a Jake's movie is like having played Tetris on tv ... Let me explain: many moons ago, when I used to play Tetris I could go to bed afterwards and play mentally the game, seeing in my head the pieces falling and finding a way to make them fit!
Same thing happens to me after having seen a movie with Jake. Not that I see him falling and find a way to make him fit somewhere BUT I recreate the scenes in my head so I cannot sleep! Hope it does have any sense and that you are not thinking that I'm the wacko in here :P
The three vids are AMAZING! Absolutely love them, it is such a pleasure to see these guys together. The entire interview is fantastic, but there are some cute moments I'd like to highlight.
Video 2: (min 0:32) "Duncan is so much older than I am" hahahaha
Video 2: (min 4:08) Jake explaining how quiet is Duncan on the set.
Video 3: (min 0:47) "Peewee Herman knows what the Source Code is, do you?"
There's something that even though I understand by the context of the interview, I cannot completely understand -I wish I could turn up the volume but boss is pretty darn close!- so I would appreciate if someone could please help me 'cause I'm in pins and needles.
It's the very last sentence in the 3rd segment of the video, when the interviewer asks Jake if he'd be interested on directing. What does he exactly say? Because I can hear Duncan saying "It's alright, I'm gonna start acting" :) but I can't hear Jake.
Have a good day, you all!
Carlota
That's great you saw Source Code WDW. I had a feeling it was going to be a great one from the reactions and reviews which I have read to date.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear your thoughts and see it for myself:)
We are doing great thanks WDW, loving the Source Code build up too!
ReplyDeletecongrats, WDW, on being able to see the movie. It has a good vibe to it and seeing the first 5 mins of course I want to see the entire thing.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to wait a bit for that, unfortunately.
This seems to be the type of movie that Jake can really sink his skills into. I think this and BBM and Oct Sky will be Jake outstanding movies so far

Don't you just love lack of sleep because of Jake?! LOL!! Hope you're surviving your day back in the real world WDW - ugh.
ReplyDeleteCarlota - I can't get enough of these video clips!! What Jake says there (after giving a definite YES to directing) is: "It’s something that I’d love to do but I would never be presumptuous enough to say I would in front of a director" - prompting Duncan's funny response!
Oh the thought of Jake directing! *swooooooon*
:-)
Hello WDW,
ReplyDeleteWow ! Lucky you :-)
Hope your day at work wasn't too bad after watching SC and the lack of sleep.
I liked the vids 2 + 3 very much. Vid 1 doesn't work :-( I'll try it again later...
Can't wait for watching SC. Such a long time till May 5th :-(
Have a nice evening
Christina
I just read this now, WDW.
ReplyDeleteI cannot even start to tell you how much I envie you for having seen SC already!!!!
Wow, wow, wow.
I have to wait till the 5th of May, how am I ever going to survive. But best of all, I will be able to see it with my hubby, a new Gyllenhaalic. So I guess it's worth the wait.
Hello! Sorry for the absence, I've spent much of the evening (after a truly horrible day today) writing the new post and my review for SC. It's really great to see all of you and good to catch up on your discussion.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're all doing well, Karen!
Thanks WDW I saw SC yesterday. I can't wait for your interview.
ReplyDeletethanks for the interviews with Jake and Duncan. I bet they will work together again in the future
