Enemy trailer and new ghost story movie news for Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams

Hot on the heels of the new Enemy poster this week, we now have the first full trailer for Enemy. We've had bits and pieces of tasters before but this give us much more. It might give you the shivers. Of course, the bonus, is Multiple Jakes.

There is also movie news! Early days at the moment but Deadline has announced that Jake Gyllenhaal is to star alongside Amy Adams in Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut Ezekiel Moss. Set during the Prohibition, 'The story follows Iris (Adams) who, emotionally fragile by the recent loss of her husband, manages to scrape by to provide for her spirited son by running a boarding house in a small town overrun by religious fervor. Their lives are forever changed when she begins to fall in love with Ezekiel Moss (Gyllenhaal), a mysterious drifter who has the divine ability to channel and physically inhabit the spirits of the dead.'

A ghost story! What do you think? I have to say I love the sound of this! And with the lovely Amy Adams, too. Talking of whom, above is Jake with Amy during the 2011 Oscars (thanks to IHJ).

Note: This post was written a few hours before last night's dreadful news about Philip Seymour Hoffman. One can only offer one's sympathy to his family and friends. Not surprisingly, plans to discuss Ezekiel Moss in Germany have been shelved while decisions are made about the fate of the film.

  1. This is great news! I love Amy Adams. Enemy looks more frightening than any ghost story....

I hope you're all having a good weekend!

  2. A period drama, a mysterious drifter, abilities to channel and inhabit the dead, a beautiful widow in a "small town overrun by religious fervor." Sounds like a recipe for a fantastic movie. I like Amy Adams, too, and I anticipate getting really excited about this particular ghost story. Thanks, Kate!

  3. Thanks, Susan :)

Just after writing this, news comes out of NYC that Hoffman may have died today. Terribly sad end to this story. I hope that it proves to be wrong. A wonderful actor.

  5. How tragic and so sad for his loved ones. I wonder what will happen with Ezekiel Moss now?

  6. Yes, extremely sad and shocking news about Hoffman's sudden death. Ezekiel Moss sounds very intriguing and an amazing role for Jake (and I love Amy as an actress too) but I'm sure things will be up in the air for a bit with it now. I hope it does eventually come together with a new director and Jake and Amy are able to stick with it schedule-wise. Very sad.

No need to be too frightened by Enemy, Kate - it's more bizarre than scary - very hard to explain. You'll see. But Jake does a wonderful job - twice! :-)

  7. Absolutely terrible news. Discussions about the film have now been pulled from Berlin.

Waves to Susan and BBMISwear :-)

    Have a good Monday everyone

  8. This would have been Amy Adam's 4th movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman. She made Doubt, The Master, and Charlie Wilson's War with him. They were good friends.
This is heartbreaking news especially for his young family, but also for the many friends and the lives he touched in his film and theatre career.

I read somewhere that just adding his name to a project got it funded. I hope they will find an new director and go forward with it, at some point. It sounds like a good story, but right now I am still trying to process the fact that he died so tragically. I can't help thinking about Heath. I read somewhere that eight years ago we were all wondering who would win the Oscar. Now they are both gone.

  9. It is terribly sad about Philip Seymour Hoffman, such a talent. I'm wondering if Jake has even started shooting Everest? Of course the mountain man look (my least personal favourite but hell he can pull anything off) would suggest yes. But this past week he's been spotted at a fashion show party, a party supporting Pussy Riot hosted by Maggie and sadly at PSH's funeral. So he seems to be very much in NY. Pinewood Studios, Italy? Any ideas anyone?
Also will the limited release of Enemy (which sucks for all of us who aren't stateside) mean there won't be the usual publicity and awesome interviews with Jake we all love so much?! Very sad, if that's the case.

  10. There is a new (second) Enemy trailer at the wonderful IHJ. I haven't seen it on YouTube yet.

Looks great. I can't wait to see the movie. I guess most of us Europeans will have to wait for the DVD ;-( It'll be a long wait...

  11. hi Andrea - the whole situation is terrible.

Hi Malavika! Jake is clearly still in NYC at the mo but shooting is going on in Italy at the moment (the Working Title twitter feed is worth following). I would've thought Jake will be in front of the camera very soon.

Hey Sonja! I've done a new post for the new trailer.

    New post!
