Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas from WDW to Jake and to you all!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, my friends! To mark the day it's time to focus on what matters above all from 2007 and that is Jake's films. This year we were lucky - we had two of them. Although, admittedly, the wait for Zodiac was prolongued and fraught (for me anyway), but when it arrived, I couldn't see it enough and had an adventure, travelling to LA to see it at its release there and then following it to Cannes and back to London.

I came to Brokeback Mountain when it was already on the big screen - I had tried to see it in Arizona but the theatres weren't showing it where I was. Finally, I came home and got to see it in England in January 2006, but this was at the end of the screening story. It was different for Zodiac - and then for Rendition - I was there from the beginning and was able to enjoy the journey of the filming of both films, then their release through film festivals and galas, and through publicity to DVD. As a result, Zodiac is very special to me.

Rendition is similarly special to Twisted Logic and it's her personal moment that I'm so pleased to share with you all on a day of indulgence, festivities and mince pies. Thanks TL. 'It's not a moment as such but a whole two hours - the two hours I spent watching Rendition on the 19th October 2007. I had to choose a film cos, for all of Jake's other qualities that I admire so much, it ultimately comes down to his amazing gift for acting, that's the most important thing to me. So out of the two films Jake starred in this year (and taking nothing away from Zodiac, which is an enthralling and beautifully crafted film in which Jake yet again disappeared into his character, so much so that Robert Graysmith's somewhat creepy (to me anyway) obsessiveness over shadowed Jake's handsomeness to such an extent that I can watch this film all the way through without drooling - now if that isn't bloody great acting I don't know what is) I had to choose Rendition.'

'I won't go on about the film (I've done that enough and I'm saving some for the DVD) but I think when we look back at Jake's career in a few years time,we'll see 2007's Rendition as a watershed moment.I felt that Jake's performance playing a different type of character that needed him to step up a level and develop his skills as actor further than he had before, showed that he was more than equal to the challenge and he's going to carry on impressing us for many years to come. And of course his physical presence in Rendition is breathtaking and a joy to behold, with one scene in particular destined to become second only to SNIT in my Most Rewinded Scene On A Jake DVD list.'

'I also had to choose Rendition cos it provided the opportunity for some comedy gold TV interviews and unforgettable memories from TIFF and Rome which I thoroughly enjoyed living vicariously through WDW and EnnisJack.'

'They say you never forget your first time, and this was the first time I really saw Jake properly. It was the start of almost two years discovering more about this hugely talented, charismatic, funny, intelligent and stunningly gorgeous man, who through his films and the glimpses he allows us of himself, has made me laugh, cry, think (sometimes to the point of bewilderment!) and drool like no other. And most of all, thanks to Jake and Jack, I've made some wonderful friends along the way.' Here is TL's picture and thanks for the card!

Have a wonderful Christmas, friends and Jake, and let's leave the last 'word' to Jake... Mine's a pint!!

  4. Happy Christmas WDW!! Thanks for posting on Christmas Day. I loved Zodiac..and am anxiously counting the days 'til I can buy the two disc dvd. I regret I must reserve judgment on Rendition as I must wait for the dvd to see it...I do heartily value your opinion though..and I believe I am going to find Jake's performance riveting...hugs...Michele

  6. Merry Xmas! And what a way to ring in the holiday than with Jake's Santa Dance. I think it's a new tradition. Right up there with singing Grandma got run over by a reindeer! :D

I have to admit that I liked zodiac somewhat better than Rendition, but Rendition is close. But I do wish that there had been more suspense. This has nothing to do with Jake's acting but more to do with the writers. I wanted more tension from the subject matter.

    Linda :-)

  7. great to hear from you Michele, Pia and Linda! Having a fab time watching Finding Nemo. About to drive off again to a destination with booze! Thank you for sharing your christmas with me. I hope jake is having just as good a time xx

  8. Merry Christmas WDW and happy holidays to all! Hope the hot nut roast, chocolate reindeer and whatever it is you're drinking go well together, WDW--and hope everyone else is enjoying a special meal too, or time with friends.

I appreciated TL's thought that Rendition is a "watershed moment" for Jake; and even though he
hasn't won much recognition for his work there, I hope that 2008 brings him more such chances to explore the "deeper waters" he says
    he prefers--

  12. Hey - my sister finally let on that she had a computer with broadband so I've been let on briefly (having just been given a Mrs Gyllenhaal T-shirt - thank you, sis) - Now I can thank you all properly for the wonderful comments on this and other posts over the Christmas period.

    Hey Anouska - never a lightweight *)

    Back home tomorrow...

  13. Thanks for posting on Xmas Day, WDW! I wish I'd been able to get here sooner but it's been a busy day! Hope you all had/are having a wonderful Xmas:)
Santa failed yet again to bring me Jake;( but he did bring me one of those fancy MP3 players that play videos, so I'm looking forward to choosing a few more Jake moments to carry around with me everywhere:)

Off to bed now cos it's been a long day. Enjoy the rst of day if it's not over yet where you are, and Happy Boxing Day to everyone:)

  14. Happy Christmas to everyone and especially to you WDW!!!! Thanks for a wonderful ride this past year,(especially your festival jaunts!!!LOL!!!) I have to agree with TL. I feel the same way about Zodiac, which is just superb, but of the two, Rendition is my personal favorite.Maybe I am wrong, but in addition to an amazing film experience, and a courageous presentation of some political truths some American audiences might find too difficult to absorb, from a personal perspective, I felt like Rendition was a major turning point for Jake. By that, I mean, I don't think he can ever go back again. His transition to a more mature actor is complete. I think with this film, he entered a new stage in his career and his professional development. I think Gavin Hood saw something in Jake and was able to bring it out. No doubt in my mind, Jake has an incredibly powerful screen presence. Can't think of another actor, off hand, that projects quite like that.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas. I got a brand new bicycle for Christmas...which I will need, bcz right now, I am feeling a lot like a beached whale....and I'm on my way to resembling one, too!

  15. Very late but hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!! I spent the past few days going from one get together to another! Today we did what is custom to a lot of Jews on Christmas day. Went to the movies and out for Chinese food! :D Am stuffed and happy to be comfy and cozy at home reading WDW. Love to you WDW and everyone who visits here. *Hugs*

  17. WDW, love the idea of the T-shirt! Hope everyone had an awesome Holiday, for me lots of wine and family and food and good cheer...looking forward to 2008 :)

  18. Merry Christmas to you too, and thanks again for all these extensive details about Jake, his past movies, and 2007 events - I really enjoyed them so much !!
Speaking about this year movies, "Rendition" : do you have captures / pictures or a small video of Jake's scene with his lover ? That was really hot, much, much better than the one in "Proof", and he looks so sexy.....
I managed to see almost all his movies, except for "Highway" - I cannot find it here in Romania, and amazon or e-bay don't deliver here....

  19. Merry Christmas all, a day late. Happy Boxing Day to those who are lucky enough to celebrate it. And Happy New Year, which always seems to arrive the day after Christmas for me. 2008 will be a year of tremendous change for me -- and even greater accomplishments for a certain young man, I'm thinkin'.

Thank you, WDW, for all you do for us -- including the special bonus I recently received!

  20. WDW, what in tarnation is a Mrs. Gyllenhaal T-shirt? Does it have Naomi Foner's picture on it? Or Kirsten Dunst, or Reese Witherspoon?

(I have to get out more...)

  21. Hi everyone! Hope everyone who gets a public holiday today is enjoying it. Just back home after a very long drive and I can now put my feet up and catch up with everybody, while making up for all the eating and drinking I've not been able to do because of all the driving. So good to get back to Jaking...

TL - Enjoy your litle video player. I love my MP4, it's full of Jake and comes in evry handy during the long hours waiting by red carpets :) I hpe you're having a fab Boxing Day!

Bobbyanna - thanks for sharing your opinion about Rendition. I think Rendition showed a whole other side to Jake's acting powers and that, along with the way the ending completely knocked me sideways, makes it stand out to me. But when I hear the opening music to Zodiac and see the fireworks go off, I get shivers down my spine. My personal memories of Rendition - TIFF and Rome - have overshadowed the film itself for me, I suppose. But it is hard to choose between the two - I suppose, really, I don't have to. Enjoy the bike!

Hey Get Real - a movie and going out for a meal sounds like a fabulous way to spend the day! I'm going to make sure I get to the pictures as soon as possible this week and Ive done enough cooking to last me a month.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday CWG. Sunds like it :D

Good to see you Ramona - thanks for commenting :) I'll post caps of certain scenes from Rendition after the DVD's out as there are still some people who haven't seen it. It's an amazing scene :D

Hapy holidays Beckela - I'm so glad you like your present :D It sounds like 2008 will be a big year for you so special good luck for that. As for Jake, it seems to me that each year he goes from strength to strength. 2008 will be incredible for him - and so for us - I'm sure.

Hey Paulh My bright pink Mrs Gyllenhaal T-shirt belongs to none other of Jake's ladies than me :D Mr WDW got an interesting counterpart present...

    I know it's early, 4pm, but I'm cracking a bottle of something open :D

  22. Good day, lil darlin's!

Ger Real, being not exactly thrilled by family occasions, I loved living in NYC where for Thanksgiving and Christmas one could see a film and eat Chinese. I also had a tradition of chamber music New Years Eve - or sometimes SEVERAL films. One night I got fairly pissed at a small theatre that served champagne in the lobby. The film was Showboat, I wept loudly all the way through.

Turning points! Gimme turning points! I love turning points! (Beckela! do tell, dont tease!)

Any Jake conversations at holiday celebrations? A beautiful young woman named Gwyneth, very Gwyneth,
brought up Heath Ledger, during a discussion of film, whereupon her husband remarked that their neighbor (in New Haven; both of these gorgeous young people pursuing doctorates at Yale) is "stalking Jake Gyllenhaal". I kept mum.

TL, your commentary yesterday was wonderful and Jake collage I sent to a few friends, giving credit, of course. It was delicious. Nice to be able to carry around videos. Kiss him in the morning kiss him at night give him plenty of loving and treat him right. . .

thanks again for holiday post, and exchange of greetings - !

  23. hey wdw and everyone. Wdw glad you are home safe it sounds like the roads were bad today. I'm hoping they will be better tomorrow when I'm travelling. I'm feeling like I need a snooze right now after too much wine too early in the day and a long walk.

No jake conversations for me, but my mom-in-law was given the amy mcdonald cd for Xmas and it was playing during dinner, so I had my own silent toast when her song for J. came on. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Ruby Im going to take a snooze also and it's only half past noon!

LOL about Amy McDonald cd - our secret lives. Jake Bear spent the afternoon in front of a wood fire, and freaked out the family cat. :):)

    Zzzzzzzzzz. . . . (sleeping)

  25. Good day Pia. I didn't have any Jake conversations as such, just some gently ribbing on the subject - sigh. Hope you're aving a good day :D

Hi Ruby - I love that album... he roads weren't too bad, hope they're OK for you tomorrow. I am so sleepy right now, I think I'm ready for a nap myself :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey Pia - we're all getting sleepy.... Sounds like Hot Teddy is having good holidays. Off to snooze...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ok I've had my snooze and everyone else in the room is asleep! Is it Jaking time now? Huh? Huh?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Seems there are a lot of sleepy-heads here. :) I feel like taking a nappy too...catching some Zzzz...

    Hey Ruby! :D

Happy Boxing Day to all you Brits!

Pia, I do love that about NYC. You can go and do anything at any time! Like you, I have spent many a holiday enjoying the movies in the city. We had a nice day. Saw The Great Debaters. Very good movie. Sadly, no Jake talk so I came here to get my Jaking fix!

  29. Hi Ruby and Get Real - I've woken up now - ready for more chocolates :D And time to get busy...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yay wdw. Chocolate and jake -what a boxing day treat. Hi get real and pia anyone else who's out there and sleepy

  31. It's all about snoozing, isn't it? I've just woken up from mine :)

Maybe we work too hard the rest of the year? Maybe we should all be hibernating anyway?*

    *pet theory.

I want a blogger id and a little picture.

  33. One reason why I had wished that Jake could have been in "World Trade Center": The Boston Herald refers to firefighters as "Jakes."
It would be neat for Jake to play a firefighter. ;-) Especially a Boston firefighter.

  34. Hi nouskie. If you have gmail acct you have a blogger id. :) you can add a pic in your settings.

I have the chocolate , now where's the Jake?

  35. Just got my weekly copy of Time Out New York and all of the critics list Zodiac on their year end Best Film lists!!! Right on TONY!

Ah, glad to see folks waking up from their naps. :) I just came in from some errands in damp, dark skies. I may take another rest. I just need some chocolate covered pretzels first. ;)

  36. Hey everyone - I go off and do a post and you all chat without me :D

Hi Anouska - you should definitely get a blogger account and pick a pic. I go with the hibernating. I've been so sleepy today but now waking up and having a bottle of wine and tryig to find something on the Christmas TV that both myself and Mr WDW can tolerate!

hey Paulh - OMG I would love to see Jake dressed up as a firefighter!! I feel quite faint just at the thought...

Hi Get Real - That's so great about Time Out! I love all the good vibes about Zodiac that's out there. I'm sure it will remembered as a classic of 2007 :D

  37. Ger Real, being not exactly thrilled by family occasions, I loved living in NYC where for Thanksgiving and Christmas one could see a film and eat Chinese.

    Rolling my body around still.
Hi WDW everybody. OMG, I love food and more food. I can't tell you how happy I am to have you and your blog here for me...happiness all round.
Not to bring everyone down, but I know how you feel Pia.
I was never more glad to be in NYC than at Holiday time...some family traditions can wear thin..I was more than glad 3 years ago when my mom died during the season; I had the same day back then as yesterday; Chinese good at the inimitable Ollie's and a movie.

Today, I'm off to see one of my favorite directors and actor's.. Daniel Day Lewis and There Will Be Blood. I hope he doesn't disappoint me and I hope my son doesn't forget me, otherwise later for that movie.

I love Zodiac--how could I not, Jake is in it-- but am unable to watch it alone. I am much better with Zodiac in a crowd at the movie... I haven't watched it as much as other Jake movies.
Rendition Jake is one hot, powerful, masculine dude on screen.
My boyhood Jake is no more; he's gone forever, never to return. And what kills my shallow soul is the rewards of watching him grow up from gangly pimply cute teen to Damn a dude so hot my screen sizzles whenever he shows up. I can't wait to see him as Broadway Joe, one of the few sexy footballers ever. Well, now we have Tom Brady who is gggorgeous Of the Patriots, with 15 wins-0 losses, but I remain loyal to Broadway Joe Namath.

Yep, Rendition Jake is the Jake I can't get out of my mind...plus there's that hot hot love scene.

    *izsoshallow*
    xoxoxoxo
Please continue having happy days everyone.
