The Amazing Prince

The stunning artwork that is being generated for the forthcoming Prince of Persia video game seems to coincide perfectly with the anticipation for next year's movie, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal as the prince with the power to manipulate time.

The artwork is beautiful in its own right, with the prince's features clearly resembling those of Jake, coincidentally or fortuitously, hinting at the power and the charisma of Jake in this role. Thanks very much to those who have sent me images, via comment or by email, I've been fascinated by them all.

Seen it all - 'Whirled Peace'

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a master or mistress of surprises and today's news about her latest project confirms this. According to Newsday and other sources: 'Dairy delight maker Ben & Jerry's and The Lennon Estate are expected to introduce a new ice cream flavor Tuesday called "Imagine Whirled Peace" _ while re-enacting the "Peace Bed-Ins" staged by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969. The couple organized the week-long bed-ins to preach about world peace, conducting interviews with reporters. Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ben & Jerry's co-founder Jerry Greenfield are expected to reprise the roles. Efforts for spreading world peace and ice cream will most likely be announced. The new flavor is a caramel and sweet cream whirl of chocolate-covered peace signs and toffee pieces.'

Obviously, you can't get a cause much more important than world peace, but is selling ice cream the way forward? My very first passion in life was the music and humanity of John Lennon and I will admit to finding this whole scheme unpalatable, despite my appreciation for ice cream, not to mention Maggie.

Jake and Reese at Caffe Luxxe on Montana Ave, Santa Monica

Jake wasn't just out jogging on Sunday, he also found time to maintain his caffeine levels by visiting an old favourite, Caffe Luxxe on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica (not Culver City), with Reese. Thanks as always to IHJ for the new pictures. You can see more there.

Includes pictures from IHJ, Gamespot, here, and Zimbio.

Beautiful artwork , WDW. Thanks for posting it.

  4. Hi Anon - I'm glad you like the artwork - it's absolutely gorgeous and I can't get enough of it. Possibly because I've started replaying the PS2 game and it's too addictive!

  5. Gorgeous artwork!

Nope. Do not like the sound of Maggie's new project.

    Whatever.

  6. Ooh, posting at the same time :D

Hi Anna! Definitely - Jake's eyes will be so beautiful in this film :)

Hey Ruby :D ehem... Yes it is... This artwork is stunning and I'm so grateful to Dastani and another reader who has been emailing me some stunning pictures.

  7. Hey Jake is wearing the grey t and sweater he was holding in his arms on 17 May! He looks loverly.

Nadine Im sure you cooled out as soon as you returned to work. Hope your day was good - and you're all fit again.

Raining and pouring the old man snoring all day plus thunder. Im watchng Fellini's Eight and a Half.
Directors love this movie. I can see why. Wonder why I never knew wheree movies came from, thot the stork brought them, I guess. So great to go behind the scenes, these days.

Fellini says he sees selves of actors they do not see themselves -
hahaha, yeah, Im that way about Jake, I know him better than he knows himself. Shoulda been a director.

    Thanks for PoP pix.

O I also read in NYT today how blockbuster movies are doing well by using top a the line actors. Indy Jones did super at holiday weekend box offices, better than Narnia. Liam Nielsen and Michael Caine in Batman pix are worth the price of admission. LN's look as he went to his doom in Batman Begins was priceless.

  8. Hi Narcissa! Very gorgeous :D

I absolutely hate the idea of this ice cream project of Maggie's :( John Lennon had a great and wicked sense of humour, but I doubt he'd enjoy this interpretation of his sincere efforts for world peace - sounds all about making money to me.

  9. Hi Pia! posting at the same time... Jake does look lovely :) The rain stopped here today but we are assured more for tomorrow - lovely. Big stars are getting snapped up for these new franchises - I see Christian Bale has now signed up for a new set of Terminators - gotta say that I don't like the idea. Hasn't that project run its course?

  10. O p.s. I think first PoP picture looks too much like John Travolta.
Also dont mess with Donnie Darko, folks - and dont mix up yr genres. It's sloppy management. (I shoulda been a director, I knew it)

  11. Hey Pia! It amuses me that fans of the game remember Jake as Donnie Darko and seem to have little knowledge of Swoff, that stunningly physical man. And a warrior (of sorts).

  12. I find myself wondering who Maggie relies on for advice, particularly careerbuilding advice. At some point (hopefully soon), she isn't going to have to go way off the beaten track with movies like "Secretary" and "Sherrybaby" to demonstrate that she's got the acting chops to be considered an A-list actor. What does this new project do for her, anyway?

I can see, from the artwork, that Jake resembles the Prince of Persia physically. He's the right age to do this character, and he has the status of having been nominated for an Oscar. The Disney people are pretty observant. ;-)

  13. Paul I think Maggie likes to be naughty and sexy - and ironic.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi Paul :D I don't know why Maggie would want to go ahead with this project, except because she may think it's quirky and off the ball in some way. I also don't know why the Lennon estate should think it's a good idea. What I do know is, this would definitely put me off Ben & Jerry ice cream. Maggie is a fine actress, and an interesting and unusual one too. I want more people to know that and doing something like this won't do.

I realise I have strong feelings about this but that's what happens when you've been a Lennon fan for almost a lifetime.

Disney has an absolute winner in Jake - he really does look the prince they've been searching for :D

  16. hey everyone!! so is Jake going to have long hair for PoP?? wow I couldn't imagine that..

  17. Hey all,

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Was away but reading WDW faithfully. :)

Jake looks fantastic in all the new pics. Love seeing him out and about. Wish we could get him back to NYC and some lovely family pics. Don't know when that will happen now. :/ Wow, cool artwork for POP!

Love Maggie alot but not sure at all about this new project. John Lennon (and of course the Beatles) have a huge place in my heart. I don't see why this would be necessary by the Lennon estate or by Ben and Jerry's.

  18. Nadine, I hope your first day back was okay. Was thinking of you hon. :)

  19. Good to see you, Get Real! I hope you had a good break - glad you're back :D Be great to see Jake out and about in NYC.

  20. Meant to say, I'm playing PoP and he gets uppity when I pause the game :\

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am beginning to think that Jake conducts at least 70% of his business in coffee shops, and I am surprised that he doesn't have a top of the line espresso machine at home. :P

The PoP artwork is gorgeous, actually the physique of that character is very much like Jake's, broad shoulders, biceps and even the blue eyes.

So all Jake needs to do is shave off some chest hair (argh, but wouldn't they become harder when they grow back? can we check with Frank Lampard?) and grow some hair...

oh... and the prince's head gear *swoon*

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh I love all of the artwork too, I'm liking the newer ones, the costuming. I just like the entire concept of this film.

Jake is looking mighty fine in these Cafe Luxxe pics - especially the second one. His body is incredible, and he's got the most beautiful face and jaw and eyes in the biz. :) I always did love a nice, hot, tall, dark cup of coffee to linger over. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi there Winterbird :D I do love this thing of going out for a coffee. It always tastes better when someone else makes it, especially when it's one of these very elaborate coffees. If I were Jake I would definitely also have a machine at home.

    Loving the prince's head gear:D

Hey Dastani! I love the graphics and the ideas behind the new game and the movie. 'he's got the most beautiful face and jaw and eyes in the biz' - yes :D Thanks for showing us the images. (Now if only I could work out how to climb up and get that dagger....)

  24. A mocha choco latte Jake, mmmmm xx I just hope it's decaf ;D

Beautiful artwork posted WDW. Imagine the beautiful costumes that are going to be made for this. It could spawn so many new things. I can also imagine the breathtaking scenery and landscaping that should take place. Hope Jake is as buzzed and excited about this project as most of us here are.

  25. I always wonder what Jake and Reese talk about, when you see them out and about talking.
When I see Jake in pictures talking, I wonder what he talks about

    :P

  26. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all this artwork!! You're right, WDW, it's beautiful in its own write, but knowing it's going to be our Jake looking like that makes it even better. Gorgeous! Saying that, I'm still not happy about the chest hair having to go, no one will ever convince me that's a good thing:(

On a separate note, I love Ben & Jerrry's ice cream, John Lennon and Maggie but I agree this "project" sounds more than a bit tacky :( I'm not surprised at John Lennon's estate(aka Yoko Ono) cos I've seen official John Lennon merchandise (mostly baby stuff, for some reason) on a TV programme ages ago, but why B&J and Maggie are doing this is beynd me. Saying that, the ice cream sounds delicious and I would probably buy it out of curiosity cos I can't resist B&Js. oops! I've got a mental picture of POP Jake covered in ice cream now. Where did that come from? :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey Sheba - I ran out of teabags today so I've had almost as much coffee as Jake! I hope Jake's excited about the project too - I bet he is. It's going to be amazing.

Hi Anna :) I'd love to know what Jake talks about too. I suppose it could well be the things we all talk about when we're out shopping :D

I don't like the way the Prince is so upset when I accidentally kill him :(

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey spooky twin - posting at the same time! I'm having real trouble getting the prince to climb a statue - it involves complicated leaping from wall to wall and he keeps falling off into a bottomless abyss.

The artwork is stunning and I can't wait to see jake in this environment :D

I love ice cream along with the best of them - although this one sounds yucky. It's a shame that John Lennon's name is being associated with something so tacky and I don't see why Maggie's involved. I can't see what on earth this has to do with world peace, when there are so many other ways of doing something actually constructive.

    Liking the mental image :P

  29. Doh! I've just realised I should have said the artwork is " beautiful in its own right" not "write" *slaps forehead* And me a spelling Nazi(according to TL Jr)! I blame John Lennon, talking about him must have put his book "In his Own Write" in my mind.

  30. The artwork is gorgeous!

    I like Maggie's hair, suits her! :)

Jake looks good in this pics. Surprise, surprise, Reese is also there. ;)

    Great updates, thanks WDW!

  31. Hey TL - I love that book, I have a first edition of it somewhere. And 'A Spaniard in the Works'.

Hi Sandy, glad you like the artwork - it's stunning :)

I'll say g'night now - the prince has defeated me (or, I've defeated him!)

  32. Hi WDW...Love the Jake man in grey even if it is not my favorite cardigan ;-) I must also say how enamored I am of the art work. Jake is going to be great in POP...I am only praying that they will not have him have facial hair of any kind..(btw..is that prayer abuse..LOL!!) Thanks for the pics..and the newz. Faithfully your loyal reader..Michele

  33. Morning everyone :D Raining cats and dogs out there - lovely :D

Hi Michele! I hope, for you, that we see the fave woollie cardie again, although I'm pleased to hear you like this grey look. Sounds reasonable to me to pray for a prince without facefuzz :D Good to see you, Michele :)

Have a good day everyone :D

  34. I'm not much of a gamer and I didn't hear of PoP before Jake was in this movie but from what I've seen so far there's some great differences between the first version of the Prince Dastan and this last one, I think they are slowly getting closer to a 'cynematographic' one...;)

Oh Jake will be stunning in this movie...those eyes, that mouth, that body of his running, fighting, kissing his princess or simply looking intensely at her...*sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi Xenia :D It is interesting looking at how the character has developed during the last few years and thinking at how Jake is going to make it his own - it will be stunning :)

I foolishly went out at lunchtime and now I look like one of those extras in the watertank in TDAT :(

  36. "I foolishly went out at lunchtime and now I look like one of those extras in the watertank in TDAT :("
    [WDW]

That happened to me last night. I went to the pool for some swimming, The sun was shining when Iw ent in, but it was raining hard when I came out (no umbrella). But if you've just been wet for 45 minutes, a few minutes more isn't going to hurt. ;-))

  37. Hey WDW :-) First of all can I thank you WDW,Sheba,Pia and Get Real for the hugs and good vibes here and to TL and Ruby for theirs via e-mail. I got through my first shift back at work today much better than I expected to,made much easier by my boss and the girls I work with who have been really supportive and have broken me back in gently.

I'm typing this with my feet up because they are killing me,my ankles are swollen and I'm pretty achey in general but I'm really chuffed to be back in the swing again, and as I only work Mon,Wed and Fri I'll have a day off tomorrow to squeeze in a bit of rest and therapeutic Jaking! ;-)

I must say thank you to you,WDW,for helping to keep my sane with this fabulous blog while I've been incapacitated for the last 3 months or more and to all the lovely contributors here who have helped keep me entertained and my spirits up!My dear friend TL has been an absolute darlin! Big (((HUGS))) to you all!

As for the PoP artwork I absolutely love it! I'm still not totally sold on the premise of the film, but I'm willing to be persuaded and the general tidal wave of enthusiasm here is definitely starting to have a positive effect on my expectations of this project. The quality, style and ambience of this PoP artwork definitely bodes well for the production values of the film (and the general "Phwoarrr factor" of Jake in his Arabian Nights gear. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!)

  38. Back home and I just got soaked through again! Am I a duck? No! Mutter, mutter... Ahem.

Hi Paul! - you don't need swimming baths when you've got weather like this :(

Hey Nadine - so good to hear from you sounding so well. We're all here for you any time with loads of Jakehugs. I'm very glad to hear your first day back went ok and they looked after you :D

I'm also not surprised to hear what a good friend TL has been - she is a gem!

Great to hear you grrring and Phwoarring agai, Nadine :D

  41. As I think about Maggie's teaming up with Bean & Jerry, I can't help thinking how much she loves ice cream and tiramisu. If there's any justice in the world, Maggie should have her own ice cream flavor.

I'm racking my brain to come up qwith names and flavor combinations.

    Maggienificence: black cherry and toffee

Or some reference to her Rachel Dawes character in "The Dark Knight." Or a flavor similar to the cookies she baked for Will Ferrell in "Stranger than Fiction."

And while we're at it, Jake needs a flavor, too. How about Coffee Milkjake?
