Prince of Persian Baths and What should one do if one bumps into Jake Gyllenhaal? Shop, just shop...

There have been comments here which suggest that not every Gyllenhaalic has played the game Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - thereby denying themselves hours of pleasure and frustration in not equal measure. This means they may not be up on the plot, which, according to Zodiac, our resident PoP expert (who is at 98%), is illuminated by the Prince ripping off pieces of his clothing at strategic places throughout the game - it is very hot in Persia after all.

By 80% there is not a lot left and, in the early 90s%, the Prince has a Persian Bath moment with the princess - but was it a dream? So, in order to give non-gamers here a bit of a heads up, particularly in regard to the role of the evil Vizier Ben Kingsley in driving the destiny of Jake Gyllenhaal's Prince Dastan, this video sets the scene for Sands of Time.

I must admit that, when I play the game, the Prince's Powers of Delay, Restraint, Haste and Destiny are severely compromised and, indeed, little evident. Whereas the Sands of Time game may give us some idea of the plot of Jake's movie, the future games may give us an insight into the vision of the film, especially when one considers the look that has been given to Jake.

I wonder how well Jake is doing with game...

Bumping into Jake

So what to do when an unexpected encounter with Jake Gyllenhaal offers itself... Does one become mushy, tongue-tied and statue-legged? Or does one take the easy way out and just pass out at Jake's feet - possibly reaching out for something to hold on to as one falls? Here is a 2005 account (Christmas) of a bumping into Jake situation, which is very funny. One must admire the self-restraint of the lucky guy here, who managed to stay compos mentis (well, a bit) when faced with this sitution: 'Well, at one point, I turned the corner... and came face-to-face with Jake Gyllenhaal... sitting on a bed... STARING AT ME!---No. Freakin'. Joke. (Yeah. I know that it was purely "accidental eye contact with a stranger," but still... My. Gawd.)'

I must admit that I did have to look up what Magic 8 balls are and I did wonder who the four lucky recipients of the balls were - never mind the laundry tin boxes...

Telluride Film Festival

Following yesterday's feature on David Fincher it seems very appropriate to mention that the 35th Telluride Film Festival, set high in the mountains of Colorado, opens tonight and, on this opening night, there is a tribute to David Fincher. He will be presented with the festival's Silver Medallion and will show his cut of Zodiac, followed by 20 minutes of Benjamin Button.

'"Here's a guy," festival co-director Gary Meyer said of Fincher, "who is making what might be perceived as big studio movies with big stars. But each one of his films has a signature -- he's an artist."' It's good to think that, well over a year on from its release, festival goers will again be watching Zodiac.

  1. hehehe, can I just say that I love Jason?! He's funny (despite the stains!) :D

slightly OT but I like Restoration Hardware too, I have a Slinky and some leather coasters that I bought in their NYC store. :D

I wanted to say something about the Prince's Power of Delay. But I think I'll hold that thought until I've had a few more glasses of wine. ;-)

  2. Ruuuuubes I've had a horrible week, have just got back on the net after two days so am 100 posts behind, am just about to finish my wine. Hope you, WDW and Jake will cheer me up :D

  4. awww Nouskie. I miss you! You don't know it, but you just made me laugh when I needed it the most!

    Where's WDW?

More to the point, where's our boy? We need more pics - but do something with the hair first, Jake sweetie :)

Hey Rubes and Nouskie - I'm here... I had to go out and buy icecream and then eat it while drinking almost an entire bottle of wine - Mr WDW got a measured thimbleful.

Sorry to hear you've had such a bad week, Anouska :( I'll get hold of Jake and we can re-enact scenes from your favourite films to cheer you up... Any requests?

Hey Rubes - you have a Jake Shop Slinky? I'm impressed. I think Jason is wonderful too :D

So whaddya want to say about the Prince's Power of Delay - I have to know...

    Maybe Jake's at the hairdressers?
Mr WDW is making me watch Runaway Bride.

  6. Wine and Ice-cream diet huh? You might wanna add some chocolate - I think that counts as a bean aka fibre, so you'll be nice and healthy.

If you're very good I'll let you play with my slinky when you next visit. I'm pretty sure you've already made use of a coaster.

hmmm... re-enacting movie scenes with J - I've said it before and I'll say it again - 9 1/2 weeks.

WDW - I don't know if it's my 'puter, but the font on your comments page suddenly got very tiny. Could be me of course - I am seeing the optician on Monday though.

  7. Good idea, Ruby. I'm actually off chocolate at the moment, I'm focusing on vanilla and grape instead. I've definitely used your coasters.

Hmmmm, 9 1/2 weeks wouldn't be a mad film to re-enact with Jake (didn't you rename it 9 1/2 inches?), but I'm thinking romance, happy endings, some special effects and some fireworks - and a good soundtrack. Maybe Pride and Prejudice. Jake would make a lovely Mr Darcy.

That's definitely your 'puter! Check the magnifying glass in the bottom right hand corner (although I realise you have one of those JakeMacBooks).

Weekends are for wine and chocolate. Hub is in so I'll run while I think about what film Jake can re-enact for me :D See you soon xx

  9. Jane Austin? really? As long as he doesn't wear a wig like Ewan's in Emma I s'pose.

I know how to adjust the font size on my superfabMac (I *heart* Steve Jobs), but I only have to do it for your comments page. :/ When I move elsewhere the font size becomes ginormous and I have to reduce it again.

  10. (((A))) have a good night and keep in touch over the weekend xx Jake's going through IMDb now to see what film he should re-enact for you, just let us know what your choice of certificate is.

Rubes, I can't see Jake in Emma - definitely more P&P or even Sense and Sensibility. I like the white shirts and breeches and PoP will let Jake practise the accent. Sorry to hear about your font issues - how weird and Maccy ;D

Night, Nouskie - certificate xxxx? Jake's going to have to sleep on it :D We'll get back to you...

  14. Oh my! While both videos are well done, the second one is my Prince. I love Dastan's long, flowing hair (& on all the characters) and bicep tattoos, the sense of flowing motion in the action, the feeling of a watercolor or pen-and-ink sketch of the characters and backgrounds, both in line and colors. It's more angsty and sophisticated - I started to tear up, when Dastan appears to lose a commrade in battle, and kills, revenge seeming to make him feel worse, not better. There seem to be two female characters? Both are beautiful - one looks like a Native American priestess in dress and jewelry (keep in mind I know zilch about the games) and the other, I loved how when Dastan awakens her, seems to show tender feelings, she graceful runs away from him like a frightened, but brave, gazelle. I love that she uses the bow and arrow too. I wonder if he will eventually subdue her - probably better men than him have tried . . . and failed! ;) The second vid is magnifcent - if the PoP is like that, then I'm there! And don't get me started either on the power of delay and restraint, either. ;)

  15. Hey there :)

Great Fincher/Zodiac posts. And what a great Jake sighting! So funny. :D You all don't have Magic 8 balls in the UK?!?! Oh they are so much fun.

Missing Jake alot now. Hope things are going well with PoP. Have not played the game yet.

Was crying over Obama's brilliant speech last night. Historic... I don't like McCain's choice at all. Even though she is a woman her views on women's and gay rights are terrible. Sorry for the political rant, it's just big news here right now.

Jake is HOT and TALENT. :p

Have a wonderful weekend..a holiday one here!

    xoxoxo

  16. Hello!

I'm not a big fan of Emma. I liked P&P a lot but I truly love S&S. You know, there is a girl in that movie that I kind of like ;OP LOL :O) And it's an Ang Lee movie! The reason why I went to see the movies Ang made afterwards THEREFORE the reason why I went to see BBM and fell in love with Jake.

If I could re-enact one movie with Jake though it would be "Notting Hill" with him playing Julia Robert's part and me playing Hugh Grant's. Wouldn't it be very romantic?

    My choice of cert: xxxx

Yeah... ::sighs:: that would be good too. Wouldn't it?

OK. I have nothing else to add.

I wish you all very Jake weekend!

    See you on Monday!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks so much for that, Anon! I'm so glad you liked the PoP videos. I really like the second one, very much indeed. I love the story elements to it and the artwork is incredible. Your description of it is fabulous, Anon! Thanks.

Good to see you Get Real :D I'd not heard of Magic 8 Balls at all and had to look them up on Wiki. It is funny thinking Jake bought a handful of them as presents! Hopefully not for all the same people who had Christmas together - imagine all the family getting their round Christmas parcels and looking at each other knowingly.

I heard some of Obama's speech on the radio this morning - it all feels historic. I've seen McCain's running mate but know nothing about her. I was pleased to see he'd picked a woman but she doesn't sound too good at all.

    Jake is HOT and TALENT!!

It's Labour Day in the US this weekend, is that right? I must spend time with my mum again this weekend as she recovers from her accident. But the good news is - I'm taking the internet with me this time!! I have Monday off too :)

Have a great weekend, Get Real x

Hi Sara :D Oh, Notting Hill would be a great choice! Have a good weekend and see you Monday :D

  18. Wow, WDW, thank you for mentioning me on the front page of the blog:) Guess what I bought today? PoP:The Warrior Within. Just installed it on my laptop but haven't played at all yet. It's 16+. It's much darker, there are sexual references and a lot of violence. The graphics are beautiful. The Prince looks a lot like Jake. Blazing blue eyes, strong jaw. It's also much more complicated than Sands of Time, you can see it straight away. So now I have Sands of Time waiting for me to finish and a brand new game to start an adventure. I'm taking a break though so that I can later immerse myself in a wonderful world of the Prince.

P.S. The thought of Jake starring in the re-make of 9 and 1/2 weeks sends my brain into an overdrive. If only he was brave enough to take part in an erotic thriller... Maybe in the future? I would need 10 copies of the DVD because of all re-winding I would be doing;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Zodiac :D It was a real pleasure to mention you in the post tonight - I love all the things you've been telling me about the game. And I've not had much chance to play it due to having to travel up and down from my mum's. But Monday... Monday I will play it! I have the other two games for my PS2 too, ready to go. I'll be interested to know how they differ and I like to think that some of the darker, more adult content will make it into the film. Fingers crossed!

Jake in an erotic thriller could be more than I could cope with!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks, WDW! Hope your mom is doing better. Dastan is very powerful in the second vid. He does resemble Jake a lot.

Wow, a remake of 9-1/2 weeks with Jake in Mickey Rourke's role of John would be incredible. I know the film received mixed reviews, but I thought it was hot. I liked the erotic journey he took Elizabeth on, until it all became too much for her. John had closet full-of-the-same-grey-flannel-suit conformity during the day, and anti-social nonconformist by night quality, and the slightly impersonal sex-for-sex's sake encounters was initially hot, but ultimately unfulfilling for her, I think. Jake, to me is a perfect romantic lead, I'd like to see him in Wuthering Heights, anything really.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks, Anon :D When I see these PoP videos and the games I can really understand why Jake was such a good choice. Perfect choice :D

You're so right to say Jake is the ultimate romantic lead - e is, and I would love to see him in any of the classic roles - like Heathcliff, as you say. After PoP, the sky's the limit :)

  22. Hi, everybody! Friday night YAY! -last of summer, Labor Day weekend, etc and change in the air all around in these parts -

Sarah Palin gov. of Alaska is Christian fundamentalist creationist anti-abortion - a bizarre choice in the view of most people I know, male and female, yet how the election plays out remains to be seen.

Like Get Real Im pretty bowled over by what's happening in the USA - it's pretty astonishing.

Have a fine weekend, y'all! xxxxx

  25. Hi again,

I know most here are asleep...

Just came back from seeing Tropic Thunder...very funny. RDJ steals the movie.

Ruby, I agree, I really like Restoration Hardware. That sighting really is cute. :)

WDW, yes it is Labor Day weekend. Nice four day one for me. Although Friday is now gone.

Btw, the video and pics of Jardin Majorelle in the last post are gorgeous. Would love to visit one day.

I hope your Mum is healing okay WDW. Hugs to both of you.

Agree with Pia re: Gov. Sarah Palin's background and that isn't good at all imo. It is all pretty incredible and it will be a nail biter until November.

    Have a great weekend all!

  26. Morning everyone! Thank heavens for the weekend. I hope everyone in the US enjoys their holiday weekend.

Hi Pia :D We're promised a late summer heatwave down in the south east this weekend, so fingers crossed.

That Gov Palin sounds incredible - and it's even more incredible that women would vote for such a person... It'll be an interesting couple of months.

Hi Viv! That's funny :D I hope the head's all right this morning! I enjoyed my wine last night too. Jake's lips and eyes are fine things to think about - I think I'll think aboout them too :D

Morning Get Real :D Those pics from the Jardin were just beautiful, weren't they? I'd love to spend some time in such a place and I love to think of Jake being in an exotic garden with those colours and scents.

Enjoy your long weekend, and thanks very much for the well wishes for my mum xx

Have a great day everyone! Hope Jake has a good weekend too, wonder what he's up to, taking it easy, I hope :D

  27. Hello there everyone! I'm having technical difficulties today so, even though I've written a post, I can't save it and post it (using a different type of internet as away from home til tomorrow). But I think everyone's out enjoying the sunny holiday anyway :D Have a good evening!

  28. That was a great Jake sighting! Thanks for the link, WDW. Jake is a fairly smart guy, and he must be able to tell when people are trying to contain their sense of panic at seeing him. He's also an actor and potential screenwriter/ director, so he's apt to be trying to take in as much as he can, for future use.

I just got home after seeing
"Hamlet 2," which was lot of fun. The biggest Jake link was Catherine Keener, who played Steve Coogan's wife.

Magic 8-balls are not new. In fact, they're two years older than I am. They might be fun at parties, though.

  29. Hi, WDW!!!!(waves) Thanks for these great videos! I am an absolute total ignoramus as far as video games go, but I confess to an unusual interest in the PoP series. The likeness is quite remarkable, too. I have to say, after watching both these videos, I was exhausted for him. Tho, I do hope we get to see the poor exhausted Prince get a nice Persian bath in the movie.

Eldest Daughter is in town to visit and sends a shout out to you, WDW! Hope you are enjoying your weekend. It is beautiful and sunny and geogeous here. On Monday, which is a holiday in the U.S., the Democratic Presidential and Vice Pesidential nominees will be here for a rally about 20 miles from where Ilive. Really huge crowds predicted, myself not among them.

  30. Hi, just in to say that I am very excited for PoP! Watching the "trailer" was most inspiring:D The trailer I mean is the new game coming out. Jake fits the position perfectly!! Just look at what we are up to see!!!! *heavy breathing* Oh, I'm okay, okay.

I've been working more than I like to,...:( because I have some catching up to do.

WDW, remember I told you about messing up my comments? Well I hope that I'll get it right after the couple times:) Must be the rum or vodka:) Hehehe:D (rum last night:)

Oh, by the way, the head was feeling alright because I got to sleep in! Yeah! Loved it. No hang over here.

Thanks, WDW, for all of the GREAT posts.

((Hope all is well with you and your recovering mum)) Hugs...Couldn't do with out my mum, ever.

Once again, I'll think of Jake's eyes and lips (***), Oh, Oh, and the bare chested PoP:DD Is it getting hot in here? I'm feeling quiet warm around here!

    good night....

    viv

  31. Hi there everyone! I'm back! Didya miss me? :D Thanks for all the well wishes - my mum is recovering well (and although I had to watch far too much US Open tennis I was rewarded with my fave bottle of single malt and a viewing of Moonlight Mile ;D ). I have tomorrow off so I'm looking forward to some serious Jaking...

Hi there Paul! That's true - I bet Jake can read the signs (especially when he saw me jumping up and down and blowing him kisses) but he must find it flattering and hopefully sweet!

Hamlet 2? Not heard of that one (hope it's shorter than Hamlet 1).

Good to see you Bobbyanna - * waves back * and a big wave for eldest daughter too - do give her my love. I think you should dust off the PS2 and get out PoP and play with the Prince :D

The weather is yuck here, warm, dreak and chucking it down. Thinking about New Orleans - sigh.

Have a good long weekend :D

Hi there Viv! Jake is just perfet, isn't he, for the prince and if he leaps around half as much as the game prince we're in for something. I'll be taking my smelling salts to the pictures with me. You and your rum! I have no confidence in being able to write a word tonight because of my Talisker whiskey :D It is a strange coincidence how the temperature shoots up just as Jake takes his shirt off - he's like a walking barometer :D

Have a lovely Sunday evening everyone. Time to get a post up...
