A bespectacled Jake Gyllenhaal, Captain Jack wants Jake to play him and a little bit of Nailed

Jake Gyllenhaal, on being admitted to that exclusive club of Vanity Fair's best dressed yesterday, told the magazine that his favourite charity was New Eyes for the Needy. We have also heard Jake talk over the years about how, 'When I was a kid I had these huge glasses. I once went to a fancy dress as a Crest toothpaste tube with these huge glasses stuck on. That is how I see myself most of the time. A Crest toothpaste tube with bad eyesight.' Jake may now wear contact lenses and the finest sunglasses, but we (especially those of us with four eyes) long to see him in 'proper' glasses. Today, thanks to Annie for sending the picture our way, we can. My heart is mush. I'd recognise that smile anywhere. Source.

One person who's made no secret over the years of his appreciation for Jake Gyllenhaal is John Barrowman, star of Torchwood, the stage, and now Desperate Housewives. Known to many - and me - as Captain Jack, Barrowman has regularly competed with Jake for AfterElton's hottest guy title and the results have never left John without an appreciative word for Jake. John also has the admirable aim of sharing a screen kiss with his idol. Today, John Barrowman suggested that if one actor show play out his life in a movie it should be Jake Gyllenhaal. I would like to think Jake Gyllenhaal would be a good choice'.

The Daily Record has a feature on Jessica Biel today and in it is the suggestion that Nailed is read to finish shooting those final scenes. Fingers crossed.

And finally...

The lateness of this post is entirely the fault of Oxford's cocktail bars, which couldn't stop themselves from throwing delights in the path of myself and Ruby this evening. And I quote... (I particularly recommend the one on the right)

Cheers! Pictures from links, IHJ and WDW. Thanks again to Annie!

Hi P.Vic! I know, it's amazing! The smile is so recognisable too - thanks very much to ANnie for sending it to me :D

Hey Get Real :D Ive said it before and I'll say it again - adorable... We had a great time, thanks! It was so nice to go out and unwind with some experimental cocktails :D

Awwwwwww.
Awwwwwwwwwww.
My knowledge of the alphabet has shrunk to those two letters. Blame Jake. What a gorgeous, endearing picture.

Fingers crossed for Nailed indeed! I'm still, slowly, working my way through the WDW archives and one of the things I'm surprised by is how many struggles this movie's already had. I hope for brighter Nailed days!

Completely going off topic: I finally have my copy of the Brothers dvd. :))) I found two versions of it on the internet, one with a dark cover and one with a light one, but I could only buy the latter here. Does anyone happen to know if the two differ in any way apart from the cover?

Awww about does it Lady Ekster! A wonderful picture :D

That's great to hear you're going through the archives - we've followed Nailed here from its announcement onwards and it's been a tale of hope, excitement and despair throughout.

Great to hear you have the Brothers DVD! Regardless of the cover, there is only one version with exactly the same features so it won't matter :)

Thank you! :-)

Normally I wouldn't look forward to diving into dusty archives, but this is one I'm having a lot of fun with. It's great to treat yourself to a couple of Jake goodies after the work of the day is done. ;-)

His face is adorable in that yearbook pic, isn't it? I always find it wonderful that a pair of the world's most beautiful eyes are nearsighted. It makes them even more beautiful. :)

OMG! that picture stole my heart :D
those dreamy eyes and cute smile
ohh and of course the glasses! he looks very interesting :)
fingers crossed for Nailed, and also I have to say, the cocktails look yummie! :D

Gosh, Jake did wear big glasses on his cute face when he was little.

And fingers crossed that Nailed sees the light of day.

Yummy looking cocktails too!

Cheers

OMG, how cute is that???
LOL, it's somehow consoling that even celebrity parents manage to disfigure their children with weird glasses... I hope the face of the person who was treated to these glasses after Jake thanks to New Eyes for the Needy was a bit bigger than Jake's... :D :D :D
And Jake's hair is really big, too... :D
Thanks for reminding me that Jake is human, just like the rest of us, after all... :D :D :D

And John Barrowman definitely has good taste in men!!!

Hope you all have a good day (night, whatever...)!

Beautiful! Doesn't he look a little bit cheeky though? Bet he was a handful as a child.

I'm up there with John - kissing Jake would be divine....

Morning everyone! Great to see you all :) I have to admit to a teeny weeny bit of a bad head this morning...

That's great to hear, Lady Ekster :D

He really is, Olympia!! I'm no good at working out children's ages - about 7? Absolutely adorable and cheeky!

Hi there 1:09 - Yes! Like how you put that :)

Morning Linda :D They were yummie - if a tad lethal...

Hi Tui! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Nailed too - I'm really getting more hopeful now.

Morning Uli! I know - those specs are huge!! Jake wasn't kidding about them. Maybe it was an 80s thing with the big specs. I had a horrible tatty pair when I was at school. What kids have to go though... I love Jake's hair in the pic! I never liked that long hair boys had back then (and Jake had when he was a bit older). I like the ruffleability :D

Hi Claire! It really would - John's gonna have to join the line :)

Have a great day everyone - so good to see you all! Someone put the kettle on...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh just wanna pinch his cheeks!
I have no sympathy for your hangover WDW - serves you right! (I am only jealous really - nearly 6 months pregnant now and those cocktails looked delicious) :D

'Someone put the kettle on...'

*kettle on* *coffee machine running*
Coffee/tea, anyone? ;-)
It's cute to imagine what kind of school kid Jake has been. A handful, indeed? Or practicing his earliest seducing skills on his teachers? What kind of fun would he have made with his Hollywood class mates?...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Karen! I know :D And he grew up to be so gorgeous too! Glad to say my head's much better now - the cocktails were gorgeous and I promise that next time I'll have an extra one so I can drink it for you (to help out :D)

Ooh thanks, Lady Ekster - I'll have a latte please. I always think of Jake on the Conan show when he was talking about doing dance at school! I bet he was a very entertaining performer and yet I imagine him as being quite academic too. I wonder if he was a 'sitting at the back, middle, or front' person... :D

LadyEkster said...

Latte coming your way! I'll have myself a cinnamon cappuccino, mmm.

I've only seen bits of that Conan interview, I'll try and see if the whole thing is online somewhere.
I bet Jake was the sweetheart of his class - just look at that smile. And he is definitely very intelligent, so maybe at the front during literature and language classes. But I imagine he would be at the back with math. *grin*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh yumm, thanks Lady Ekster :D You can see the video over at IHJ, I think. Yeah, back at the class at maths :D I can understand that...

OMG that picture is absolutely priceless - so freaking adorable!! This makes me want to see pictures from every single year from the Jake school archives. He has often talked about the HUGE glasses he use to wear and, boy, he was not exaggerating one bit - ha ha! You are right, WDW, it was an 80's thing - huge glasses (if you saw mine from back then you'd laugh). My guess is this photo is from around 1987 or 1988. Too much!

Those drinks look yummy and remind me of some we have on MV last year WDW! Wish I was there with you two last night.

Great stuff...thanks for sharing (and thank you Annie...talk later... :-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Yeay! BBMISwear :-) I knew you'd like it - absolutely flipping adorably adorable. I'd place it around then too. I bet you looked adorable in your big specs too :D

As one of those with four eyes, I must confess my absolute love for Bad Eyesight Jake. You know, I wish him a long healthy life, but his bad eyesight kinda makes him perfect in my book (is that too twisted of me?). And that pic is the definition of cuteness! And it's not just the glasses. I mean, look at that pose! :-D

Thank you for sharing, WDW. And in case you didn't know, that pic has melted thousands of hearts over at Tumblr. ;-)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Alejandra! As a fewllow four eyes person I totally agree with you - there's something about it that makes Jake more like us while remaining absolutely perfect. So that's not twisted at all - I see what you mean :D And the pose is fab!

I didn't know that - I've never ventured into tumblr :D But I'm not surprised!

Alejandra said...

The reason I ventured into Tumblr was Jake, actually. Learned through a random Twitter search that Tumblr was swarming with Jake love. Had to see that for myself. And was not disappointed. ;-)
