Jeff Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere finally got to see Love and Other Drugs last night and he is full of praise for it. Not only does he call it Ed Zwick's finest movie, he also says that it's not just Anne who has produced a great performance.
'I'd been told that Hathaway's performance is the killer, and it is, I suppose, because your heart goes out to any character coping with a debilitating disease (stage-one Parkinson's) and who wants to keep herself aloof and in control, but Gyllenhaal gives his most winning performance ever -- not the deepest or darkest or saddest, perhaps, but 100% likable with no audience-alienation issues except for emotional avoidance. They're quite a pair, these two. All you want is to see them keep it together and somehow make it work.'

I can't wait to see this movie! I can't watch the video because I'm at work, and they block us from doing anything fun! Grrr...I wanted to spend my last night at this hospital watching videos about Jakey. Oh well.

They look great and some of the things they say about the whole process of filming and developing their characters are pure gems. The sound is a bit muffled, if that is the right word, but I listened to it with max. volume and then it's fine. :)
I have been a big fan of Jeff Wells' well -written movie blog for years. It is one of the most popular film blogs- it is read by many A-list actors and A-list filmmakers. He does not bs ! He is brutally honest and outspoken about films and celebrity encounters. You always feel his passion for movies and the whole filmmaking process. When Wells gives a film his seal of approval, it is definitely worth watching. So, I'm happy he is supporting the movie. Because Jeff feels it could be a Best Picture nominee, he is adding to the Oscar buzz.
P.S. I respected Jeff Wells when he promoted , advertised, and supported Brokeback Mountain when certain movie bloggers and critics were nervous and skeptical about a gay romance. Wells basically wrote BBM was less about the gay storyline, but more about people lying to themselves, not fulfulling their full potential and not pursuing their dreams. We all can relate to that- gay or straight. And, Wells was truly upset when "Crash" won the Best Picture of the year.
I loved how he touched her arm in one of those clips. They're so sweet together. :) And how cute is he??? Yum yum from me too!!! Thanks for posting these clips, WDW!

Those who have not been able to watch these vids yet are going to love them! Hurry up and get home - ha ha! I enjoyed listening to what both Jake and Anne had to say about the filming process and their previous role together, etc. Great stuff!
I will also note that the opening of the first clip (MV223) is obviously about the New York Yankees win over Texas last night - they do not say this specifically but for those of us here in baseball land, trust me, that is what they are referring to and I just LOVE Jake's reaction. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. LOL! Anne and others are cheering and Jake doesn't make a motion. Why? Because no true Red Sox fan would ever, ever even smile at news like that. Yay Jake! (And Go Texas - just one more win and bye bye Yankees - whooowhee)!
Sorry...back to the subject at hand...thanks for the quick update, WDW, and I'm looking forward to more from whatever makes it to the internet from last night and all the great LAOD stuff to come. Bring it on!!

My dilemma is that LAOD will be in theaters on November 24 which is also my husband's birthday. I'm afraid he won't appreciate seeing me drool over Jake when it's supposed to be his special day (LOL), so I will probably not get to see it until after Thanksgiving. Boo-hoo! Although, if I tell him it stars Anne Hathaway and she's naked most of the time... maybe... hmmm....
Come to think of it, he NEVER appreciates seeing me drool over Jake. I must do my drooling in private. And see LAOD many times. And buy the DVD when it comes out.

WOW nice interview. I just wish I could hear it more clearly. I had the volume turned way up but it was hard to understand everything. but Jake looks HOT! And you can see how comfortable he and Anne are together. I hope this is not the last movie we'll see these two paired up in

They are great together. I love how Jake touches Anne's arm while he's speaking. :)
I love watching Jake do silly interviews where he jokes a lot, but I also really love to see him do that sort of more serious discussion about making movies. And God he looks good enough to eat! I love how he talks so much with his hands, it's mesmerizing. :)
When he talked about directors being good at manipulating actors, I have a feeling he might have been thinking about Ang. :D
