Big catch up: Jake Gyllenhaal in Toronto! Videos and interviews. Plus more...

How about this! Thirty minutes of watching and listening to Jake Gyllenhaal give a radio interview with CBC's Jian Ghomeshi. Definitely one to savour.

And there's more...

Jake has continued to be busy promoting Nightcrawler which opens in the US an UK this 31 October. Playlist have published a wonderful interview that they conducted with Jake during a 'seven-minute car ride' that took place during the Toronto Film Festival.

Here Jake talks about the research he conducted for Nightcrawler in LA: '“It’s like a Batmobile,” continues Gyllenhaal, regarding the police scanner setup the nightcrawlers he shadowed had in their car. “It’s pretty cool how they use the sensors that they use, particularly their hearing, because they have 15 scanners going on at once. The level of noise going on at one time is fascinating. They tune their senses to a very specific thing. They are like animals. It’s got a very animal Wild West quality to it. They’re outside the norm, not only are they up at night, but what they’re doing is so…you know they’re searching for tragedy and they’re racing to it at 120mph, which is not always the safest thing.”'

And there is a little piece about Demolition, which is to begin filming shortly: “It’s a movie about a guy who’s losing his wife and it basically tears apart his life as a result of what happened, but it does it in the most interesting ways, literally and figuratively,”

There is another great interview from Toronto here. I love its conclusion: '“I don’t think I go into a movie saying, ‘I’m just going to knock this one off,’ ” Gyllenhaal says. “I go, ‘I know this is going to change me.’ And I don’t want to do it if it’s not.”'

During the Toronto Festival, Jake attended the gala of Denzel Washington's The Equalizer, producing some great photo opportunities.

On 11 September, Jake Gyllenhaal was one of many celebrities who helped raise funds during this year's Cantor Fitzgerald Annual Charity Day in New York. Jake's mission was to help out a charity close to his heart New Eyes for the Needy. There is a great photo and message from Cantor Fitzgerald here and here there are more details about the significance of this event.

Thanks very much to IHJ for the photos in this post. And finally...

I'm off to Spain tonight for a week so I'll see you later!

Nightcrawler premieres at TIFF! Videos, photos and reviews: 'Jake Gyllenhaal at his best!'

Jake Gyllenhaal and the fans braved the Toronto rain last night for the gala premiere of Nightcrawler, an event that was accompanied by rave reviews - 'Jake Gyllenhaal at his best' is just one. And I've gotta say, Jake looked a treat!

There are also some great photos of Jake with co-star the lovely Rene Russo, as well as some fab pics of Jake doing publicity interviews before, such as this one.

There is a report here along with some video. It all brings back some great memories of my 2007 TIFF trip.

There are lots of videos, including this brilliant Variety video of the cast being interviewed.

A couple of reviews for now: Playlist, The Wrap

There are lots of photos on IHJ so do take a look. I'm away for the weekend but I wanted to get something up before I leave. I'll update the post when I get back. Have a great weekend! What a wonderful start to it.

Nightcrawler to close Fantastic Fest and a new interview with Jake Gyllenhaal

With Nightcrawler's premiere just two days away (it opens at Toronto International Film Festival in a gala on Friday 5 September), there is news that Nightcrawler will also close Fantastic Fest which takes place in Austin, Texas, from 18-25 September. Presumably and hopefully that will mean another red carpet event!

There is also a great new interview with Jake Gyllenhaal in Variety - this is probably the fullest interview we've seen with Jake for quite some time, and it's a goodie! There is more on the mirror hand cutting incident and lots on the Jake Coyoti Diet and Fitness Plan.

'"I would try to eat as few calories as possible,” he says. “I knew if I was hungry that I was in the right spot. Physically, it showed itself, but chemically and mentally, I think it was even a more fascinating journey. It became a struggle for me.” On some nights, he wouldn’t eat at all, or he’d only nibble on small pieces of meat, crackers or kale salad. “When you watch the film and see the angularity of his face, the hollow cheeks, the way that his eyes become prominent,” Gilroy says, “it’s such a haunting look for a night shoot.” Gyllenhaal would run 15 miles from his house to the set in the evenings to stay lanky. The inspiration for the fast-talking character came from the animal world. “There was a general sense that he was a coyote,” Gyllenhaal says. “I just wanted to live that way.”'

It is also fascinating to hear about Jake's preparation to play his Southpaw boxing character - extraordinary dedication. I can't help hoping that sooner or later Jake will get the chance to play a character having a lovely, relaxing holiday.

'“As an actor, you’re constantly true to your feelings and the feelings of a character,” he says. “The most interesting moments are always the most unexpected. I’m not saying it’s a positive thing to get hurt and have to get stitches in your hand. But to me, the scar is about a certain type of commitment.”'
