Jake Gyllenhaal meets Parker the Monkey- Brothers' first screening is 'excellent'

There have been other visitors to the set of Nailed and not all them have had two legs and some are more in need of a shave than others. I hope you will forgive a second post today but I saw this picture and couldn't resist. What a cutie - and the monkey's not bad either. Jake Gyllenhaal meets Parker the spider monkey and, apparently but not surprisingly, it was love at first sight.

When Sam's Path Mobile Petting Zoo came to Columbia and the set of Nailed, Parker the spider monkey got the full tour, even being seemingly inappropriate with Jessica Biel. Catherine Keener, by contrast, shared her toothbrush with him, making that important step in a new relationship.

And whatever this is, I like it. Looks like it could be useful for cleaning cobwebs off high ceilings.

Screening of Brothers

All may have been quiet with Brothers but that's probably because, unlike a certain other film starring Jake, it's been behaving and going as planned. Even though the release date is still some five and a bit months off (but drawing nearer), Brothers is now at the stage of early screenings. Thanks to Monica, here is some information about this, which includes a report that the film is 'excellent' and that it may get an R rating (that will be because of the naked shaving scene we spent such a long time discussing last Christmas).

I am thrilled to hear that Brothers has progressed this far and it gives me hope that Brothers will be a feature of one, if not more, Film Festivals this Autumn. Can't wait to see it and it's great to have an excuse to repost one of my favourite pictures of Jake from 2007.

And a repost of the new picture of Jake from yesterday because I'm not ready to stop looking at it yet.

Wonderful pictures from Sam's Path Petting Zoo and IHJ.

  1. Oh, I love this post. "What a cutie - and the monkey's not bad either" LOL!

What great news, and reviews about Brothers. You mentioned an 'R' rating and a naked shaving scene????!!? For those of us who were living on another planet and had no internet last christmas, what was that about?

Good that you put that latest picture up of Jake, doesn't his calf muscles looked pumped up. I could almost forgive the socks and sandles. Knowing that man, he'd probably start a new trend again (like with the grandad cardigan *rolls eyes... goodnaturedly*).

I'll be here tonight for sure for some fun, flirty Jaking xx

LOL again WDW. Can I use it after you, they don't make 'em that fluffy anymore. What is that?

  3. Hi Sheba - I loved doing this post! Now I know what to do when I see Jake on the street and want to attract his attention - instead of just fainting at his feet, I could chuck my spider monkey at him. Jake'd love it. I just don't have a spider monkey...

Ahhh, the naked shaving scene... This is all TL's fault and she can correct me if I'm wrong. But when filming on Brothers started last November we decided to allot ourselves roles - like Jake's retoucher and toucher. We also rewrote the script and added a whole load of deleted scenes for the DVD Director's Cut. Most of the scenes revolved around Jake shaving his beard off, preferably being naked as he did it. This was partly inspired by us all just having enjoyed the opening scenes of Rendition :D

Jake's body looks incredible in the new pics - I can almost overlook the socks and sandles. I think he's trying to emulate an English habit before coming over here to film this summer. I hope he'll leave the cardie behind though...

    See you later!

  4. I have no idea what it is, but I'm pretty sure you can't get them round here :D More's the pity...

  5. maybe he's wearing socks to protect his feet because during the sex scenes his toes get kissed alot and so forth. He does have beautiful feet.

I hadnt finished looking at this picture, either, so thanks from this quarter.

    Monkey: what a cutie!

Jake: you're not bad yourself, lil monkey.

there's also a naked wrestling scene, I think, Sheba.

  6. Hey Pia! I love this yoga pics - so much to look at. It's no secret that I don't like feet (although Jake's are the exception that proves the rule) so I'm kinda hoping the sex scenes are further north than the toes :P

Oh yes, I'd forgotten the nakes wrestling scene. I think we ruled out a naked iceskating scene for obvious reasons...

  7. Aahhh Pia/WDW, getting my hopes up for a genuine R rating naked shaving and wrestling scene (mind you, he's already done mud wrestling with Stacey Keebler). I hope Jim Sherridan appreciates all your 'retouching', 'editing' and extras for the DVD.

Have you allocated jobs for PoP yet? If not, can I be Jake's lip balm applier and tester?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi Sheba - well, the consolation is that it sounds like Brothers will have an R rating so hopefully that will be for sexy Jake reasons rather than violent warscene reasons. So far as PoP goes, I think the only options so far has been whether to be an extra as a Sand monster:D

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well, I'm working on the sand monster character and trying to emote as best I can (my little one says I look and sound like one first thing in the mornings - so I'm halfway there :D ). So, can I get the job as lip balm tester?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't see why not, Sheba, lips can get awfully chapped in the desert :D

  11. Great news about Brothers. The original version is excellent, so I have no doubts the American version is just as great.

Thanks for the great updates WDW.

    Sandy!

  12. Awww..... Jake with animal! That's so cute.

Excellent news about "Brothers" - I can't wait!

I think yoga exercise is excellent preparation for Jake to be waving sword(s) on a wire in PoP.

    Mmmm.... naked shaving scene....

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks Sandy! I have no fears about Brothers. Can't wait for it :D

Hi Winterbird :D I love to see Jake and animals - they like him, although monkeys can be pesky.

I agree that yoga will stand Jake in great stead for his scimitar swashbuckling (oh, really can't wait for that!)

    ReplyDelete
  14. (waves to WDW!) WDW, looking at the picture, I'm not sure if Jake is bonding or screaming!!! But then, I'm probably projecting my own reaction to the tiny monkey!

I'd seen the original Brothers when it first came out, but forgot about it until this re-make. Last night it was on cable so I was able to watch it, and I have to say I could really "see" these three in those roles very well. I'm just delighted the early screening reviews are so positive!

Jake is looking (cough) very good in these yoga class pictures. My, my. WDW, I had to copy this quote! You were speaking for so many of us! ;)

"... Speaking as someone with all the balance, grace and poise of a sea cucumber..."

  15. What the blinking flip has he he got on his feet in those post-yoga pics? If it's cold enough to need socks - wear trainers. He looks pretty perfect from the ankles up though. :D

Spider monkeys are funny little critters.

Please remind me - with whom did we have Jake doing the nekkid wrestling? :P

    ReplyDelete
  16. *Waves to Bobbyanna* Good to see you! That's a good point about the screaming, but I think Jake is bonding. I think Jessica has far more cause to run away!

I've still managed to avoid the original Brothers, which is good, so I can be all ready to be swept up in the story as Jake, Tobey and Nats do it. Ahh, the yoga pics :D What a bod...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hey Rubes! Posting at the same time. Jake is doing homage to the English guy summer warderobe. But he'd have been much better off with a fine pair of Nike. Otherwise definitely perfect :D

I've never been as close as Jake to a spider monkey but this one looks like it has spirit :)

I think we had a long line of people offering to wrestle with a naked Jake - I'm not certain we settled on a winner...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I've been that close to a macaque. They are cute too. :)

I have been thinking I ought to take up yoga again. I used to love it and I'm definitely getting less bendy than I used to be. Maybe Jake could show me his sun salutation one morning.....

    ReplyDelete
  19. in Zanzibar, a red columbus monkey once ran up me thinking I was a tree and that was not cute as the thing was flippin enormous! But Parker looks well used to celebrities and gorgeous Los Angeleans :D

I'm not so bendy either - maybe we should get Jake to take some time out of filming PoP in London to give us a class.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think Jake might be wearing yoga socks... especially since he had ankle injury before. Maybe his proper shoes are in the car and he just put on those sandals (look more like beach slippers to me) on his way out.

At least he's not wearing crocs! :P

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey Winterbird! Yep, I'm grateful for small mercies - Socks and Crocs (ooh, like how that sounds!) would not be good.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "gorgeous Los Angeleans" love that almost as much as being called Oxfordians - sounds like a tribe almost. Is that what they're called?

"I have been thinking I ought to take up yoga again. I used to love it and I'm definitely getting less bendy than I used to be. Maybe Jake could show me his sun salutation one morning....."

Hey Ruby I agree. Is a sun salutation when you stand on one leg with the other leg on your knee, arms stretched upwards palms touching? That's hard. I tried that on my friend's Wii and it was so much fun and relaxing at the same time.

I remember a time (in my youth when I used to be able to put one leg behind my neck) - I'd be lucky if I can get it above my waist now ;D

  23. those who lives in L.A.: Angelenos, I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That sounds more like it, Pia :D (I knew it had an 's' in it ;D)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Catherine Keener, by contrast, shared her toothbrush with him, making that important step in a new relationship.

Cute! Awww, the little monkey is adorable. Two Jake posts in one day, fabulous!

Also glad to hear some news Brothers. Can't wait to see it. I love his character name, Tommy Cahill. *sigh* :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi Bertie! Glad you liked the cheeky monkey post :D Very cute. I love the name Tommy for Jake too in Brothers. Not too long now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tommy Cahill? I thought it was Jannik. My computer keeps shutting down, methinks monkey - spanner - works!

    ReplyDelete
  28. WDW, I did love the cheeky monkey post, he's adorable. ;)

Sheba, I thought I read the character name on IHJ. I loved it, an Irish-American sweetheart? Maybe I got it wrong? I've been staying away from any and all info about Brothers except for today's, I don't want anything to spoil it for me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Sheba - it's Jannick in the original, but the family in this new version is the Cahill family - Stephanie at IHJ was given the info and has Jake's name on the front of IHJ in list of roles :D Natalie is Grace and Tobey is Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bertie, me too - I want nothing to spoil it :) I want to know how excellent it is and that's it! Wouldn't mind the odd pic though... So a little bit greedy. Just no plot.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know what you mean Bertie. I wish they'd put spoiler alerts when discussing plot and characters. I like to view the performances 'fresh' ;D

I'm sure I saw that name on IHJ too but been away from it so long, it might have changed to Tommy to reflect the American characters.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Twilight Zone moment - no pun intended :DDD Rock on Tommy!

    ReplyDelete
  33. O you people who want to be surprised! I bet you pay attention to those "dont open until christmas" stickers on yr packages. not me! :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh no, I don't mind a little bit of info, it's up to me to make sure I don't read any spoilers, so you guys talk about it to your heart's content! I'll not read what I think will be a spoiler, but I don't mind character names and a little bit, no problem! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, that's true, Pia, at least in theory! I accidentally read something very spoilery about Brothers just the other day and I didn't like it so I want to keep ignorant. I'll post links as they happen - with a big warning - but I won't read more than a little bit :)

I'm like that too, Bertie :)

I wonder what Jake said to that monkey...

    ReplyDelete
  36. O but She Who Must Be Obeyed will brook no spoilers, sure enuff!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is a sun salutation when you stand on one leg with the other leg on your knee, arms stretched upwards palms touching? That's hard. I tried that on my friend's Wii and it was so much fun and relaxing at the same time.

The sun salutation is actually a sequence of postures.
The one you describe Sheba, sounds like the tree pose. According to my Yoga for Dummies book, it's good for balance, toning the legs, opening the hips and also 'develops concentration and mindfulness'. Sounds good to me. :D

You can get a yoga programme for the Wii? How cool. I've been thinking about getting one of those.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Heehee Pia :D So many of you here are big film buffs so you've all seen the original - but I'm very impressed by how quiet you've been spoilerwise! When Brothers comes out I'm looking forward to hearing how you think they compare.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Ruby! You have a Yoga for Dummies book?? If you're getting a wii you have to invite me round for tennis :D

I want to see Jake posing like a tree...

    ReplyDelete
  40. "I wonder what Jake said to that monkey..."

Jake: Friend, I think PoP's been cast already, but I bet you CAN do parkour.

    ReplyDelete
  41. OMG Pia! Why didn't I think of that?! That's a gem!

    ReplyDelete
  42. "O you people who want to be surprised! I bet you pay attention to those "dont open until christmas" stickers on yr packages. not me! :D :D"

Yeah Pia, I do. I'm a good ex-catholic girl (guilt would eat me alive) :DDD

I don't mind spoilers as long as I'm warned its a spoiler. Its like Whoopie Goldberg giving the ending away to 'The Sixth Sense' :DD

Thanks for the info Ruby. The Wii is amazing, especially for people like me who hates gyms and keep fit classes. A Wii is definitely on my Christmas Wish List alongside a dinner-date with Jake ;D

Pia, I can just imagine Jake saying that to the spider monkey, afterall, I hear he talks to his sat nave.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm putting a wii on my Christmas list too :) If I had a sat nav I'd talk to it - at the moment I just talk to fellow drivers ;D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow,you're really spoiling us today,WDW,with two lovely Jake-posts. When we were talking the other night about the animal characters for which Jake could provide the voices I don't think we mentioned monkeys but Jake certainly seems to have a rapport with that sweet little chap. Perhaps he was asking Parker his opinion of Parkour?

Things are looking very hopeful on the "Brothers" front, aren't they?! It promises to be a very emotionally intense film and I can't wait to see it!

Jake certainly is looking good in those new pictures (socks and sandals notwithstanding :-D ). Those paps have their uses, so uncannily reliable in tracking him down on our behalf ;-) It would seem that the inverted triangle of his "Jarhead" torso is back once more. Methinks, despite my misgivings,PoP is going to have its compensations ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. You have a Yoga for Dummies book??

Actually no. I've just realised that it's called 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yoga', but the same kind of deal. I have a couple of others too.

Yep we can do tennis. Then strawberries and cream afterwards. :D

    ReplyDelete
  46. Awww at Parker the Monkey :) I've been wracking my brains and desperate to get online since I got your text this afternoon, WDW;) Just adorable...

So is the new Jake pic(albeit in a completely different way) :D It's good news on the chest hair front;D As for the footwear, I'm going to pretend I never saw it;)

So good to hear that Brothers is getting good reviews. I'd sort of forgotten all about it, what with everything else going on, but I really am looking forward to it so much:)

Oh, and the naked mud wrestling (which, credit where it's due,was Ruby's idea, not mine;) I think we'd narrowed it down to either Ewan McGregor or RDJ :D

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi Nadine! Just great to have all these new pics - and I just love the one with the monkey. You and Pia are so good thinking of parkour! I think the monkey likes Jake and who can blame him. Brothers sounds like we're in for something special. PoP is gonna be great!!

Hey Rubes! Don't forget the champers :D

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi Spooky twin, posting at the same time :D I knew you'd like the little monkey. Ohh, that's right about the naked mud wrestling - I remember now - didn't we settle on RDJ?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Nekkid mud wresting does not sound like something that I would think about. :/ No,no,no. Not sweet li'l ole me. TL must be thinking of someone else.

    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oops! Sorry, Ruby - I meant to say it was "allegedly" your idea;)

Anyway, I voted for RDJ, but I didn't realise he'd definitely got the job;)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, TL, I think Ruby and I may ave mentioned it to RDJ at the Jonathan Ross Show. RDJ seemed taken by the idea :D

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah, a couple of badasses, JBG and RDJ, they'll do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm supposed to be going to bed soon! How the hell am I gonna sleep now you've planted those thoughts of Jake and RDJ mud-wrestling??!!

Ah well, who needs sleep anyhow?! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nadine and Pia - I'm glad you're there as it's late and dark and I'm on my own and a bit of a scaredy cat! So thanks for hanging around xx

    ReplyDelete
  55. More new pics - what a Jake day it has been today! I'm loving the length of Jake's hair, I can see a very exotic looking Prince of Persia coming up. To me, it highlights his bone structure and lips. Probably his eyes too if he wasn't wearing sunglasses. Such fascinating characters he's played and will play in his career *sigh* Isn't the movie business fun? :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi bertie! i was just looking at those - that's very definitely Jim Sheridan so looks like Jake and Naomi have been watching Brothers too! Wonder what they thought...

OMG three posts in a day - I may go PoP!

    ReplyDelete
  57. WDW, I'm sure if anyone could persuade RDJ it would be you and Ruby:) Then again, how much persuading would anyone need to mud wrestle naked with Jake?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi TL - I might have to think for 2 whole seconds :D

    ReplyDelete
  59. That's two seconds more than me;D

Where are these new pics? I can't see a new post??

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm still here too - talk about mud wrestling - I'm wrestling with this darned computer - think there's a bug. You mean you spoke to RDJ and suggested mud wrestling with Jake? Well, I volunteer as lead female to either referee or take part ;D.

*sheba sits patiently, drumming her fingers for two minutes waiting for WDW's new pics*

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sorry about your computer probs, Sheba :( Thanks for hanging around! The post is up!

    ReplyDelete
  62. LOL at the cutie monkey comment!
    Great post!
And once again, I adore Catherine Keener, that pic with the toothbrush and the monkey was great!

Mmmm... those sandals and socks can only be forgiven after seeing how hot Jake looks, not to mention his uncanny agility in drinking water out of bottle with no hands...
    "very bendy" stuff!...

    Cheers
    Paola

    ReplyDelete
  63. Good to see you Paola and can't wait to see you soon! I love the pic of Catherine with the monkey - they look very relaxed together. I love, love how Jake can drink from a bottle with no hands - it usually takes me quite a few pints before I can do that!
