Jake - 'Personally, I like to play in deeper water'

The American Film Institute chose not to follow the path of its British cousin, preferring instead to completely ignore Zodiac (and Rendition) in its Top 10 list for 2007. However, you remember the Buzzsugar poll in which we could vote for our favourite drama of the year? Well, Zodiac won, so good work everyone! The best dramatic actor has not been announced yet, so there's still time to vote I believe.

Thanks to IHJ for New Old pictures which can be found throughout this post - they were taken at the MTV Movie Awards in 2006 and feature a stunning and little warm Jake.

Brothers filming in Los Alamos

Jake's new project, Brothers, continues apace and today there was a IMDb sighting of the hoopla of filming: 'They are definitely filming at a church in Los Alamos today. I just went to lunch and saw all the commotion. Base camp is not at the Catholic Church. It is at the Los Alamos UNM campus. In the back.'

Moonlight Mile Memories

After an enjoyable night watching The Knight's Tale on UK TV last night, this evening it's the turn of Moonlight Mile (BBC1 11.20pm) - a rare treat on terrestrial television. So to put us in the mood, whether we live in Britain or not, here are some bits and pieces about the filming. In 2001, the Boston Globe visited the set in Gloucester and reported that 'At the moment, though, Hoffman is more concerned about the beating he's laying on his costar. The scene they're shooting winds down with Hoffman giving Gyllenhaal an enthusiastic slap on the knee and springing up from the bench where they've been talking. But Hoffman has been dishing out that same slap for hours now. "Jake's going to take his pants off and he's going to have a black- and-blue mark," Hoffman chuckles.' I was drawn to the last sentence.

In 2002, Jake was interviewed by the Minneapolis Star Tribune about Moonlight Mile (among other things): 'The only time Gyllenhaal brings up his star status is when he wants to poke fun at it. He kidded about his Oscar-winning co-stars, saying he made it clear from the first day of shooting that he was in charge. "Susan followed along pretty well, but Dustin could be difficult," he said, deadpan. He started to add something about Hunter, but burst into laughter. "Sorry," he gasped. "I can't keep this going." Seriously, though, working with such a veteran cast did have benefits. "What I've discovered in the last year is that the best actors feel comfortable in their own skin," he said. Brad Silberling, the writer-director of "Moonlight Mile," predicted big things for Gyllenhaal. "Jake is the `it' guy right now," he said. "As young actors go, he's alone in his field. He's really open and sensitive. And he's passionate. He has his eye on doing things he can be proud of." Sarandon, who mixes mainstream movies with independent films, saluted Gyllenhaal for wanting to remain active in art-house films. "Jake is very bright, and he's obviously very talented," she said. "By starting as a character actor, he's got a base that's broad enough that he can be thrust into leading-man status and survive."' As always, few talk with such insight about Jake as Susan Sarandon.

Director and writer Brad Silberling told the Detroit Free Press in 2002: '"It took Dusty six months to make up his mind, six months of us talking on the phone every day, working through detail, half the time talking about anything but the script. Finally I got him together with Jake, because I truly believed that would get him off the dime. And he just fell in love with him. He kept saying, `He's like a young Buster Keaton; he's like a young Keaton.'" Gyllenhaal says he was more than eager to hear everything Hoffman had to say about his character and their relationship, and he was especially pleased when Hoffman drew comparisons between his character and the shell-shocked Benjamin Braddock in "The Graduate." The more experienced Sarandon, while praising Hoffman's intensity and attention to emotional detail, admits to becoming exasperated with him occasionally. "At some point, you have to say, `Fine, great; let's shoot the thing and quit talking already,'" she says.'

At the Toronto Film Festival in 2002, Jake did a Q&A on Moonlight Mile which was featured in the Bostone Globe:
Q. Most of your roles to date have been young men who react, often passively, to strong characters or extreme situations. What's up with that?
A. This year has been a lot about being reactive, just personally. But also the best roles for people my age have been those types of roles. The supposedly active roles deal with a sense of sexuality that nobody necessarily wants from someone at a young age, unless they're a football jock or something relatively cliched. And there's not much going on there, at least for me. Personally, I like to play in deeper water.

Q. How did you go about finding your way into this role?
A. I had been around the script for a year and a half before we eventually started shooting, so I knew it pretty much backwards and forwards. There was a lot of thought about what was going on and the secrets that I was holding, but a lot of times you just have to come in and listen and have faith that the director's going to pull off the job. Of everything I've worked on so far, there's been, strangely, the least preparation with this.
Q. Do you wish you'd done anything differently?
A. Yes. Always. I always wish that I could have done everything differently. But you know, the Tao Te Ching says, "Don't cling to your work." That's my attitude towards things more and more. It wasn't at the time, and I think maybe that if it had been, it would have made for a better performance.

Q. This was the last of five films you shot back to back. Did you bring anything to "Moonlight" that you'd learned from the others?
A. No. But I will bring to movies after this what I got from "Moonlight."
Q. Which is?
A. Preparation. That it's a discipline. That people who say that acting doesn't involve a tremendous amount of work don't really know the craft. That's the thing that Dustin [Hoffman] taught me; he works just as hard as anybody. Even this play I just did in the West End [of London] called "This is Our Youth," Dustin was a big influence on me doing that. And in rehearsing for a month beforehand, I learned that what actors consider spontaneity doesn't really come from being "spontaneous" and not knowing your lines. Real spontaneity comes from overworking your brain to such an extent that it stops working and something can flow through it.
So, in the future, that's how I'll approach it. Unfortunately, as an actor I feel like the performances I've given have not done that yet.

As a familiar treat, here is the Making of Moonlight Mile video for you to enjoy.

The Dark Knight

While we're showing videos - at last the official trailer of the Dark Knight has been released, featuring the sensational Heath Ledger as a terrifying and very real Joker as well as the occasional glimpse of Maggie. Just listen to Heath's voice in this - it sends shivers across the skin.

While we get ready for MMile - either on TV or on DVD, on whatever side of whatever ocean or sea - if you've any suggestions for what you want to bring to Jake's party at WDW let us know... Do we need some designated drivers?

Christie said...

wow what a post. I loved it so much. I adore MM, and can't wait to watch it on tv, what a treat. I love how unserious Jake can be, he is very self-depricating and I find that incredibly refreshing in someone so bloody handsome!! And I like the things that Dustin Hoffmann and Susan Sarandon say about him. And you know I adore the Making of MM video, it's wonderful. I would love to work behind the scenes of a film, it must be so thrilling.

TDK trailer is amazing, and spine tingling. I adore it and think it is fantastically shot, and so exciting and mysterious. I cannot rave about it enough. Heath, of course, is just awesome, his voice is virtually unrecognisable. I loved the bit with him and Maggie...what does he say, something like "you're not scared of me, I like that." YAY, go Maggie!! I never thought I would see the day where I would be raving about a Batman film. But it's all down to Heath.

If I volunteered to be a designated driver, would I a) be able to drink at least one aqua velva with a cocktail umbrella and b) take Jake to and from the party? On my own? I have a very small car.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Christie - thanks so much! I really enjoyed doing it. Jake is the perfect mix isn;t he? Beautiful and modest with it whilst being a bit cheeky and likeing to perform. I like that video myself so I thought noone would mind if it went up again!

The TDK trailer is fabulous!! Totally spinetingling and that's all due to Heath, as you say.

OK you can have one drink of the blue stuff but your car might be too small for Jake... he might have to sleep over....

Christie said...

Oh well if Jake is staying over, so am I! Imagine that, a sleepover with Jake. That would be fun ;) Sharing birthday cake with Jake on a sleepover would be a lot of fun. Oh, the games we could play.

I need to go now so hope the party preparations continue to go well. Please make sure you save me a space for my sleeping bag.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Will do Christie - it's a small flat, so it'll be cozy...

Sucks that AFI didn't include Zodiac. :(
I like the Dark Knight trailer, Heath seems to do a great job as the Joker. I can't wait to see the movie.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Anon - It definitely sucks about the AFI. In fact, I think it's outrageous. TDK trailer is marvellous - can't wait to see it - but still such a long time...

Anonymous said...

Half a year to wait for TDK is quite a long time, i agree.
I think Maggie looks beautiful in the trailer.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

She does, I can't wait to see Maggie and Heath together :D

Me too! ;)

Another great post, I like to swim in the deep water too, literally and figuratively! You know that this is one of my favorite Jake films, not the least reason being that parts of it were filmed in and around my hometown! I remember watching it and having that deja vu feeling, thinking certain things "looked familiar" and was so pleased to read the credits and see where parts had been filmed. Unfortunately, I had moved to a different area at the time it was filmed and had no idea! lol Lucky you to be able to watch it on the telly tonight! Do you believe I don't own a copy of it? I'll have to rectify that ASAP and treat myself to a Christmas present. I already treated myself to the 2008 Brokeback Mountain calendar.

Jake's b-day party sounds fun! There are so many great moments of Jake's from 2007, Zodiac and Rendion, their promotion, his SNL skit, just to name a few. These MTV Best Kiss pictures from 2006are some of his most handsome I think. And for the 600th time, I am always amazed at the maturity beyond his years, intelligence, and humor he brings to his interviews. He's really something special.

Oooooooooooh, I so enjoyed the TDK trailer! I wasn't sure what to expect with Heath as the Joker - but let's just say I'm amazed - he's so good in it. There's something he brings to the character that I never would have expected, and I want to see more. He's no cartoon character; you are right WDW, he's real, and scary and real scary and intense. I loved his scene with Maggie. The only problem is now we have to wait until Summer to see it! :)

HI WDW..thanks for another stellar posting...I love MM and felt Jake did a fabulous job with that role..being as young as he was when he did it. I think I would really like to see Dustin Hoffman and Jake in another movie together with Hoffman playing Jake's father..I enjoyed their screen time together so much..WOWZER...the TDK trailer was fantastic. And I totally agree with you, Heath's voice does give me such chills. The movie is going to be such a blockbuster.. Whilst I am on the subject of Heath and his voice, it seems that the poor lad rarely gets to use his own voice/accent in his movies...must be very hard on him...hope you enjoy/enjoyed MM..

A lovely post! MM is a wonderful movie and what Dustin, Susan and Brad say about Jake is beautiful. That is heavy praise coming from two amazing and talented actors. They all had such great chemistry and Jake was so excellent in it. He just knows how to express so much with his eyes and body. I love the courtroom and dinner scenes. His talent was on full display!

That DK trailer is awesome. Heath really is scary an seem to be the Joker. Even the little bit with Maggie slapping him has me so excited for their scenes together.

As for the party. You can't have a party without pigs in a blanket! And since we are doing a fabulous and yummy chocolate fondue, how about a cheese fondue. And I will be happy to add to the drinks with a little red wine. :p.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Bertie - I can tell that this is a special film for you :) You must get it for Christmas - I love the commentary with Brad, Dustin and Jake. I don't have the BBM calendar myself unfortunately.

Jake's birthday is going to be great - and it'll be so much fun to celebrate :D

Thanks Michele! I was thinking about that with Heath and his voice while I was watching part of Candy the other night.

Hey Get Real - I think the jukebox, the courtroom scene and the 'I lost my friend' scenes were my favourite. he jukebox scene always makes me so teary. And I just love the end. Unfortunately, it's on too late for me tonight as I have to be up so early, but I'm going to watch it on DVD tomorrow instead.

Cheese is good - and more wine the better ;)

Great post yet again,WDW,thank you! MM is such a lovely film,it's a shame it never reached a wider audience. And I hate to say it, but being on at 11.00pm on a weeknight probably isn;t going to attract many viewers:( At least we all appreciate it as it deserves to be:) Personally I can;t fault it, I love the characters, the script, the acting, the soundtrack, and Jake obviously! I love the interview, he's so funny and articulate and just interesting. I'd love to sit down and have a chat with him about ANYTHING just as much as I'd love to rip his clothes off;)

As you know, I'm not really that worked up about Batman but I watched the trailer and I have to agree Heath looks and sounds scarily excelent, or excellently scary, I guess both work:D Maggie looks beautiful and feisty too. Almost makes me wish I did like Batman!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks TL - I know the film is just too late for me, but it was good to see a little pic of Jake in one of the London freebie newspapers today as a promotion of the film :D I'm glad to hear you have some honourable intentions towards Jake to go alongside the naughty ones ;) I think you should give into TDK! I hate Batman movies but this is gonna be fab - it's got our Heath and Maggie in it!

Anonymous said...

WDW, those scenes get me too. Jake is just amazing throughout the movie! The commentary track is also so great. Jake has just a way of relating to anyone and you see how he connects so well with Dustin and Brad. :)

Btw, I should have explained for anyone who doesn't know what Pigs In A Blanket is. They are little mini hot dogs in pastry. Very yummy and always a nibble at parties. WDW, cheese fondue and wine it is! It will be a very fun Jake birthday celebration. :D

twistedlogic said...

Lol WDW! Yes,you wouldn't know it from my comments, but it's not ALL about Jake's hotness for me, there are plenty of other aspects of him that I admire. Trouble is, all those other aspects just make him even sexier so it's a bit of a vicious circle! A nice one though:)
By the time TDK comes out, I'll either be so sick of the hype I won't want to see it or so completely seduced by it that I'll have to go and see it;) We'll see...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks for the explanation Get Real - I wasn't sure what they were, but clearly the more food we can get the better :D

TL - You're right, we could get so Batmanned out but I'm going to try and stay focused on being desperate to seeHeath and Maggie on screen together - evn if it's not exactly in a romantic light!

chillinwitgyllen said...

Thanks for all the goodies WDW. I'm stuck in the blizzard, report back later :)

Ooh be careful CWG - I wish we could send Jake round to dig you out...

Anonymous said...

Be safe, (((CWG)))!

I also have to say how sexy and beautiful Jake is in these pics. I especially love the ones from the MTV Awards. *sigh*

Anonymous said...

Stellar post as always, WDW!!!
I really enjoyed Jake's comments. Very insightful.
I think Dustin was 27 or 28 when he played Benjamin in The Graduate.
Ive read he can be very exasperating. I remember when DH made Tootsie, his preparation drove his colleagues crazy. There was a lot of the real Dustin in his character. He played an actor who was SO "method", he went thru major preparation to play a piece of fruit in an underwear commercial, and his agent couldn't find him any acting jobs, so he decided to masquerade as a homely, middle-aged, female "character actress" and audition for a TV soap opera. I'm glad he was a catalyst for Jake to re-dedicate himself to preparation, but I also agree with Susan.

I was really stung by the AFI announcement. As I posted in the earlier thread, apparently, they think Knocked Up is a better film than Zodiac. Nothing against Knocked Up, but are they even in the same league?

For Jake's b'day party,I'd like to bring some Chianti Classico and a special dish of my mother's recipe for homemade manicotti. Delish. An antipasto and some minestrone to start....and lots of warm from the oven Italian bread...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Get Real - I love the first MTV pic - beautiful eyes :)

Hey Bobbyanna - it's just terrible about the AFI :( I've heard some things about Dustin too, how difficult he is to work with as the model method actor, but a great tutor for Jake at a crucial point in his career. Susan can do little wrong in my eyes.

Your comment has made me so hungry! We'll all appreciate that - I love the sound of the bread. Jake's going to have a great birthday party, but we'e all going to have to spend a month in the gym to get over it.

Off to bed now, see you all tomorrow *)

"But you know, the Tao Te Ching says, "Don't cling to your work.""

O I just wanna kiss him! He would be SO MUCH FUN on an overnight, and can do a mean cartwheel, to boot.

The MM video was lots of fun, esp. Dustin and Susan S dancing. Dustin has a son Jake's age, who is, actually, named Jake - Im sure Dustin is a trip and a half. Not sure our boy isnt. VERY interesting comments about Jake by S.S. I have the impression Jake soaks up everything from folks with whom he works - he said somewhere he only works with icons, said he was joking, maybe, maybe not.

Heath's a beautiful man, for sure, but Im a one-man woman; however, he's a fine actor, who needs the right material, looks like he's amazing as Joker, and that's been the buzzz. Candy's waiting at the P.O. also Lion In Winter.

If Jake forgets his sleeping bag, I'll remind him that he'll freeze his ass off when the fire under the fondue pots go out.

Designated driver? Some of us gotta swim.

The American Film Institute chose not to follow the path of its British cousin, preferring instead to completely ignore Zodiac (and Rendition) in its Top 10 list for 2007.

D'oh...It seems that we Americans have no idea what we are talking about when it comes to films. (*cough*cough* OSCARS *cough*cough* damnyouCRASH!--honestly, I have to think WHO and HOW MUCH was the frigging bribe behind that total backstab...but I may just be ranting, eheheh)

This is one case where I gladly offer deference to the British, for their outstanding taste in film. And for giving Jake a BAFTA. Whoo! Go Brits! Y'all rock, you know that? :)

Jake strikes a perfect balance between a boyish innocence and total hawtness. He is one of the few men I know that can pull off both 'cute' and 'sexy' at the same time. I SO LOVE the sixth picture because of Jake's smile. But then again, that's our Jake, eh? :)

Anonymous said...

Yeah, BOO to the AFI for not recognizing Zodiac and Rendition. I question their taste that's for sure. :(

The birthday bash is sounding better and better!. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone :) And yeay no frost! Bodes well for tomorrow's birthday party :D

Hey Pia - I definitely think Jake soaks up the wisdom of people such as Susan and he must be something special indeed for the way pwople such as her respond to him. And I love the things Jake says here. You're right, Heath's amazing but then there's Jake...

Hey Haalin - I'm proud of the way the UK has treated Jake and greets him when he takes the trouble to come over here. But the Oscars has time to make amends... Glad you liked the pics :)

Morning Get Real - yep the AFI has to sit on the naughty step for at least a month :(

One day to go :D See you all later and have a great day :)

Morning to ya WdW:)
Looks like Buzz sugar has the right population voting... fans...with a knowledge of what's good in movie-land:)

Having a movie made where you live has to be thrilling for everyone who lives near the film sites. I traipsed down to 6th and 58th last year to see Spiderman being filmed and had a blast.

I was surprised to learn from MM and Jake interviews, just how kind Dustin Hoffman is to actors he considers talented and eager to learn. It was reported everywhere, that he was extremely harsh to Julia Roberts on the set of Hook. He ripped her a new one at the slightest provocation. He reportedly didn't think much of her talent and he let her know how he felt...constantly.

We Gyllenhaalics are lucky to have iheartjake to tide us over in times of drought...like now.
What would we do without them.

The London romance picture of Jake and Kirsten sharing a meal are adorable.
TY for another great post,
xoxoxo

As I mentioned in my post on your previous earlier article, I'm still in shock about Knocked Up's inclusion on that list.

The inclusion of that movie, in the AFI's 2007 top ten list, is almost as shocking, as the Academy's snub of BBM, for the Best Picture Oscar.
To name Knocked Up, as one of their top ten films, over a film that was in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, makes their top ten list a joke in my mind.

Good Lord AFI people, get a grip and make sense, or stop making lists.

Anonymous said...

I dunno about Dustin's "kindness", Sass - Jake's spoken of how he needed to "stand up to him" and
DH made cracks about Jake getting top billing, and kidding nim about his lack of dialogue in film -

Anonymous said...

For Jake's party, I thought I'd bring some appetizers - something a little ethnic and vegetarian - a crudite platter with roasted red pepper hummus, baba ganoush and pita triangles, appetizer spinach pies, even though we have birthday cake, some baklava, and a special champagne for our beautiful one's 27th! :)

paulh said...

Peronally, I think Dustin Hoffman thinks too highly of himself. Julia Roberts was fine in "Hook."
It's a hard part to play. Look at the unarguably fine actors who have had big trouble getting their parts right in the past: Olivier as Heathcliffe in "Wuthering heights," or Katharine Hepburn in "African Queen," or Julie Andrews as Eliza in "My Fair Lady."
Then look at Dustin Hoffman making a *major* deal of Julia Roberts in a small supporting role in a movie that never meant to be anything special. He overreacted way too much, in my opinion.

"Moonlight Mile" is not a film I want to see very often. It's a very, very sensitive subject that's covered in it: dealing with the parents of your betrothed after her death, especially when you have a secret about the relationship that might turn them against you. Jake handled the role with great sensitivity. That's what a great character actor would do. Is Jake a character actor in the body of a leading man?

Hi everyone, we've had a battle with the weather here for several days, I'm sure you've heard.

I've got some catching up tp do on reading this great post :)

Hope everyone is well.

chillinwitgyllen said...

Christie, I too am looking forward to Heath as The Joker, wouldn't go see it otherwise. I think this is a real unique character for him to play. After seeing all the latest Heath movies I think he's going to be awesome. Still haven't seen 'I'm Not There' only because it's not playing near me. Limited release? Have you seen it or anyone, is it good?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone - phew back home after a very busy day and all this talk of food for the party is making me flippin hungry :D

Hey Sass - I'll admit to not even having heard of Knocked Up - but it doesn't sound like that's a loss. I tend to think Dustin is probably a little scary and intimidating but Jake is not eaily scared nor intimidated. I imagine Dustin's humour can be a little sharp too but fortunately Jake knows how to laugh at himself.

Hey Positively Pia - I remember hearing that. Jake must have been uneasy having billing above Dustin.

Marina that sounds delicious! Love the idea of the crudites. I'm starting to think I may have to draw up a menu.

Hi Paulh - I'm a fan of Julia's and I don't like to think of anyone giving her a hard time - especially for a film like Hook where she played Tinkerbell - hardly an Ophelia role. Is Jake a character actor in the body of a leading man? - that is a really interesting question and maybe it's true and why there's no sell by date on his career.

Hey CWG - hope you're OK with all that weather - we get off very lightly here in the UK (which is just as well as the place collapses with just a fraction of the snow you get). I really want to see INT but it's out Christmas week when it's hard to see it :( I bought the soundtrack on Saturday and I absolutely love it (even though I've never been a Dylan fan).

sass said...

Hi again everyone,

Learning something new here is a treat. So Jake gave it back eh? Good for him. Pia, I'd love to read more about those episodes if you have a link or two, if not, it's OK:)
Paul, I especially love reading that Dustin thinks too highly of himself. I never did understand all the fuss. We liked the movie when we saw it, went home and never gave it another thought.

Kate, Jake won another wonderfully silly contest. The results dropped into my mailbox this am...if I may:)
enjoy please:)

Jake is the Most Kissable Bachelor:)

Sass, I am lousy at footnotes and links! But I was googling alot of Dustin interviews while discussing MM on the DC film thread of the same

http://www.davecullen.com/forum/index.php?topic=21670.150

as well as recalling the commentary on the DVD - and remember also Dustin remarking somewhere that he was surprised Jake wasn't intimidated by him, most people were. Right, Dusty, ole man.

Not to diss the Dustin, I like him, but to quote one of Donnie's lines to his sister: "a little HOS-tile, there. . . " Father/son stuff, I figure. Ahem, helLO Dusty, Jake's been there, done that.

On to the IMPORTANT STUFF. I ordered tequila and "the blue shit" (as characterized by one blogger when googling blue curacao) - lime and salt for tomorrow's party. Also scallops for coquilles St JACQUES appetizers in their own darling wee scallop shells.

My local booze store has terrific chocolate filled baklava but MARINA thank you I see you've handled this.

The cutest guy named Jonathan delivers fron the booze store, run by the local Lebanese mafia, very interesting. We discuss F Scott FitzGerald. He has a girlfriend but I like him alot because he remembers everything about my life that Ive told him.

A last mention: "Explain the Gyllenhaal pictures" Sigh. A young woman with a ring in her naked belly button who came to help out today wondered if Jake was a relative, considering the pictures here and there. Perhaps I should have said yes? She thinks he's "BEYOND HOT", also Heath Ledger, but she hasnt got the nerve to watch BBMt because her boyfriend's a homophobe. How does she walk around with a bare belly in this bitter winter weather?

Anonymous said...

Her belly ring probably defines her at the moment. Imagine if she had to cover it up - no-one would know - they might imagine she was a nobody with an unpierced belly :)

Out of interest Pia, what's Jonathan's fave F. Scott Fitzgerald?

paulh, I do agree, MM is an agonising film, I'm not sure I could take it twice either. It's wonderful though, especially Susan Sarandon I thought (and Jake of course).

I will always love Dustin for the look he shot Jake when he was praising the actors' work on BBM.

Anonymous said...

On a shallower note, I also love him for pulling up Jake's t-shirt that time.

Christie said...

Pia, I loved your post. Hilarious and very random. I like the sound of Jonathan the beer delivery man. I like people who take an interest and remember what you've told them. I always think I'm the only person in the world who does that!

How tempting it must have been to say Jake was a relative.

I always enjoy your posts and how you adore DD - loved that quote you used, I could *hear* Jake saying that as I read it.

CWG, hope the weather eases up for you. Like WDW said, us Brits are useless with weather, we can't cope with a bit of sleet. As for I'm Not There, haven't seen it yet, it's not in any local cinemas, sigh. I should have watched it in NY when I had the chance. I blame it on The Spotted Pig magharitas.

Anouska, I don't think I ever saw Dustin talk about Jake and BBM. Would love to know more about that.

Anonymous said...

Hi christie - he didn't say very much, and he was being general about the quality of the work as he presented in his category at the March 2006 Oscars, but he was specific in looking right at the BBM team - it was the most wonderful *look* - warm and supportive, accompanied by praise. I wonder if it's YouTubed?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone - thanks for the comments! I've been running around like a headless chicken trying to do things for tomorrow. I'm in need of a nap now... ;)

Hi Sass - you must be a mindreader, that link is in the new post :)

Great comment Pia - I can never understand people exposing their bellies in most weathers but at this time of the year... I have quite a bit of the Blue Shit so I'm already to make some Aqua Velvas but I have no soda. Jonathan sound lovely.

Hey Anouska - really, you couldn't take MMile twice? I just love it, I find it calming and life-affirming. But I do have to be in the right frame of mind. I know that Dustin moment you'e speaking of :D

Hi Christie - I think you did a good job sticking with the Spotted Pig Margaritas - INT will come round. Talking of booze...

Anonymous said...

Thank you (and IHJ) for the MTV Awards pics, he looks so cute there, despite the beard... I actually can't believe how long ago that already is - 1,5 years!!

My favourite scenes in Moonlight Mile... I think the one I replayed most often is the one where he meets Bertie at night at the post office and tells her about his nightmare and everything else... Sigh.
The scene where he comes to the post office and the cat scares the dog makes me smile...
The dinner and court scene are great as well. And... And... And... Almost every scene Jake is in? LOL!
It's just a wonderful movie (and unlike in Proof I cared for the characters ;))
Oh, I love the scene where he sits down on his bed - crying... I think it's a pity that they Brad Silberling felt he had to take it out...

Re: Twistedlogic - showing MM on a weeknight at 11:00 PM will not attract a large audience!
We had the same problem here in Germany some time ago... Last year they showed MM on Dec 24th at 3:00 PM - a time when almost everybody here is busy with preparations for the evening (we start celebrating Xmas with presents and all the evening of 24th...). Even worse was when they showed October Sky on a Saturday night at 4:00 AM or something like that... What are those people thinking???

LOL Anouska, I will also always love Dustin Hoffman for pulling that shirt up and reveals that great body for us... Sigh!

Ooooooh, the Dark Knight trailer! That is the first superhero movie I am seriously anticipating! Heath looks/ sounds really scary - great!! But we have to wait sooo long!! Damn!

Oh, err, I forgot: I can be the designated driver for tomorrows party! I will drive Jake (to my) home safely after the party ;D

I can't wait to see what you are posting here tomorrow!!

Anouska, Jonathan (he IS darling, quite elegant, with a pigtail: I suspect he's writing a novel, on the side3) was born and raised in Gatsby country, the north shore of Long Island, and I had a college b.f. who lived on the "north shore" who used to take me to night clubs there, very Gatsby, as was his siter, the famous slut Cornelia, a la Zelda. So J and I discuss Tender is the Night, Far Side of Paradise, Gatsby, the slut Cordelia, my college boyfriend, Jonathan's girlfriend, etcetc. And of course, F. Scott himself.

Oh Pia, about the chocolate baklava - as if it wasn't delicious enough already, they have to go and add chocolate to it? Chocolate baklava it is! And the Coquilles St. Jacques - *faints* :)

PaulH, I love how you describe Jake's acting - "a character actor in the body of a leading man". You couldn't have a better description of the best qualities of acting combined into one, nor a better compliment. :)

Sorry, Pia, I just read your comment about Jonathan - :)

Marina, it is delicious dark chocolate and fine nuts, also, enfolded within the leaves of the baklava. not alot, just enough. another favorite of mine, that I purchase only on my birthday: a croissant with chocolate inside!

Hi Uli! I can't believe how long ago those awards are either - unbelievable almost.

The scene you mention is (with the juke box scene) my own favourite from MMile. It gets me wvery time just where it should.

Thanks for the offer of being the designated driver - although I think it's been established now that it's a sleepover ;)

It's going to be busy tomorrow...

Pia - The Great Gatsby is one of my all time favourite books :D Its setting must be beautiful.

hi Marina! I hope we're all fasting today what with all this chocolate to come tomorrow...

Pia - I love chocolate croissants - in fact, there's not a lot you can do with chocolate I don't like...

Ohhhh just a little dark chocolate in them sounds like perfection, Pia. And I meant to comment on Bobbyanna's delish-sounding manicotti. It's a good thing these are only virtual calories, all of this is yum.

And *sigh* I love The Great Gatsby too.
