So what's going on in Santa Fe? And Zodiac's Satellite nominations

A few little snippets of information and hearsay are making their way out of Santa Fe and the set of Brothers through to the outside world, and especially to this bit of the world which is rather missing Jake Gyllenhaal. We know very little but according to witnesses, students or lucky paid extras, the house where much of the film is set has been built at the soundstage at the College of Santa Fe. Extras have been taken on to join Tobey Maguire in the Afghanistan warzone, children (or at least one) have been hired to play Tobey and Natalie's youngsters and, by looking at IMDb, the castlist is growing almost by the day (which isn't hard because just a few days ago it had a grand total of three people on it).

According to the news site Santa Fe New Mexican, last Thursday filming took place at the Green Onion in Santa Fe. The Green Onion is, by all accounts, not only a fun sports bar, it is also the only Irish pub in Santa Fe. But someone who saw what Jim Sheridan had done to the place for the movie, had this to say: 'Driving down St. Michael's last week, La Mitotera was shocked, shocked to see the Green Onion had vanished. Or moved? Or something? Then she realized that the building had been painted a darker color, had a snazzy American flag in its satellite dish and was now something called Tommy Phelan's. A little slow on the uptake, she took another look, noticed the lights, cameras and action and realized that Santa Fe's favorite sports bar was preparing for yet another close-up in the movies. Brothers was filming inside the Green Onion (and outside obviously judging from the paint job) just as North Country had done in the past. It had quite the patriotic feel to it, what with the flag and the red, white and blue!'

As for offduty hours, a poster at IMDb saw Jake and Tobey at his gym in Santa Fe, while last week, the 'brothers' were also spotted at a party at the Cowgirl, for the Santa Fe Film Festival. Now the Cowgirl's a place that sounds like fun.

One of the 'new' actors attached to Brothers is Ray Prewitt who plays 'AJ Owen'. Ray's site Fancy Catfish has a description of a rather intriguing underwear scene with Jake and Natalie. 'Hollywood will call you to send in tape for one of those q-rated roles and you will get to be in your underwear with Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman. oh, did i mention it was just me in my underwear. just me. in my underwear. them? fully clothed. me, underwear. yep. oh yeah, Jake makes fun of my body too. yep. yeah. hairy underwear ray. yep.' Gotta wonder.

Zodiac's Satellite nominations

The nominees for the Golden Satellite awards have been announced and, while there is unfortunately no mention of Jake, Zodiac has pulled three nominations. Brian Cox has been nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, James Vanderbilt has been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Harris Savides has been nominated for Cinematography. The awards themselves will be presented on 16 December.

Includes pictures from Santa Fe New Mexican, IHJ and American Cinematographer.

Hey Ruby - great news and I bet Jake's got one of them new fangled fancy phones too!! Can it book us tickets to Santa Fe?

:D love hearing news of Brothers filming! This blog really is like a lovely glass of wine, with friends by the fire. All comforting and cozy on a cold night. Thanks for the Santa Fe weather reports, Pia! I was in Jersey over the weekend and there was snow yesterday. Finally got back to the city today and it is all gone. We just have lots of gusty wind. Good to finally be home all wamed up and reading WDW.

Ruby said...

Yep, anywhere you wanna go, honey. just email me your credit card details and I'll sort it :D

I love to hear news from Santa Fe. I like the sound of the Cowgirl bar - just our sort of place I think.

twistedlogic said...

Well someone needs to get over to Santa Fe pronto and sort out this underwear mix up! I don't remember that particular scene, but it's obviously Jake who should be standing there in his underwear. Amateurs!

Quick FYI for anyone in the UK with Five Life channel: Jake's Ellen show is on on Wednesday at 1.30pm:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh Get Real - gorgeous comment, thank you! It IS a cold night out there, I'm all settled with a glass of red wine and it really is cosy. My thoughts are with us and with Jake over there in Santa Fe, thinking he's filming now before hopefully warming himself with a glass of something. I love to hear Pia's weather and radio reports - just brings us closer. Happy sigh *)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ruby - when we get over to Santa Fe we have to go to Cowgirl's! We'd have a time and a half there :D As for the tickets, I was rather hoping you'd take care of it...

Hey Twisted Logic - when I read this it did occur to me that Jim is clearly not using all of our rewrites. Good thinking. Jake in his Calvin Kleins is something we need to see.

Thanks so uch for the heads up on Ellen - my machine's bust though :( Is Five Life a Freeview channel?

Iggy said...

Awwwww.....thanks for some Jakey news WDW...I've been getting withdrawal symptoms here...although I think I can stand it, knowing I'll be getting another film with Jakey in it.

But what's up with the Golden Satellite Awards?...No mention of Jake? Well. They've lost a bit of lustre in my book. Hmmph.

Thanks TL for the tv info...not sure if I've got that channel though.

And pass some of that wine around please! If I can't have Jake I'll settle for the wine, the fire and the great company! Cheers!

Thanks for another great post, WDW. I love all the names of these places - The Green Onion, Cowgirl. I got excited when I saw that - I dined in Cowgirl in Greenwich Village, does that count?

getreal, I agree with you about this place, its like sitting by the fire with a nice glass of wine. Shame Jake isn't here to make us a martini. Or a margarita. Or a bloody mary.

I'm intrigued by the underwear/not underwear situation. How did it come to pass that Jake was the one wearing underwear?

TL, thanks for the Ellen reminder. I'm off work on Wednesday for Christmas shopping, so if I whizz round the shops in record time I could be back in time for that.

IMDB have Brothers release as Dec 6th 2009???. I hope thats a mistake and should be 2008.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0765010/releaseinfo

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Rosie! We just have to settle for what we can get I suppose. But because Jake's making a film for us, it doesn't make it seem so bad and it's fun finding out about this corner of the world and wondering what the film will give us.

It's beyond me why Jake doesn't have a nomination, but it is good to see Zodiac getting a mention.

Yes, have a glass of wine and put your feet up :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Christie - what a great idea - get Jake to do bar duty. D'you hear that, Jake?

Hi Anon - thanks for commenting. That must only just have gone up. That HAS to be a mistake and it must mean 2008. Otherwise it's taking even longer than The Dark Knight!! So I'm taking that as good news and enjoying the thought of seeing the film this week next year :D

Hey all, that's for the post WDW, brought back memories The Green Onion and Cowgirl but hope they get over to the Shed, my kinda place to eat awesome Mexican food, nothing like it. For some reason Sushi seems to be a fav over there too, lots of Suschi bars.

Hopefully that ELllen is the uncut version! I keep looking for it again.

So who's really going to Santa Fe? WDW if you go to LA I don't think the flight is very long to Santa Fe so check it out.

When will I learn I cant micromange Jake's life? Or the film production, for that matter.

But honestly, who is this guy Ray who's giving away plot details?

On the other hand, it's great fun to have some tasty tidbits come our way, no matter how.

I hope one of these days we get some pictures of Jake and Tobey working out. Ia this too much to ask, for Christmas?

Its freezin' in Western MA with some blizzardy snow now and then.

Having a wee pink (Bombay) gin, tonight.

Lovely pictures, WDW - sometimes I wonder how you intuit so beautifully the pictures that are just right with the text!

twistedlogic said...

WDW, according to their website Five Life is on Freeview channel 36 but it says you may have to re-tune your digibox to receive it

http://www.five.tv/life/

Christie, there's always Five life +1, it should be on there at 2.30 pm if you're late:)

Ruby said...

I have Five Life and a working recorder thingy. Thanks for the info. TL. It'll be good to watch it on a proper size screen.

I'm not sure I could take another movie with Jake just in his underwear! I'm still recovering from the last one. :D

Iggy said...

OH God....I HAVE got Five Life.....so I know where I'll be Wednesday at 1.30.....and probably 2.30 too.....hehe

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey CWG - loving the sound of the sushi. I can't do spicey but I can do seafood. Especially if it comes with Margaritas :) As for the flights... believe me I've looked :D

Positively Pia - thanks - I appreciate that about the pictures. I post the ones that come to mind when I write the post although sometimes there doesn't seem a reason for it. I love these pictures.

Pictures of Jake and Tobey would be good, that's for sure. I seem to have a cupboard of Bombay Gin but nothing to mix it with, but a Martini sounds good.

Thanks TL! I've checked and it seems I have that channel - never heard of it! I can't set times so I'll have the treat of a whole day of programming recording ;)

Yeah but Ruby - that scene was so quick, I'm ready for a replay :D

chillinwitgyllen said...

WDW, it's gotta be only like an hour over there or so, I think there's a direct flight. Are you coming for business or pleasure?

I can't wait to see the underwear scene, they better not delete that one, if they were smart they'd have Jake practically naked the entire movie, talk about ratings.

I can't believe Jake didn't get nominated for that role. I don't even know what the Golden Gate awrds are. Funny, not much mention of the Santa Fe Film Festival like the others.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi CWG - this time it's a trip for pure pleasure :) If the film has scenes set by a night time fire, Jake won't want to overdo it with the clothing ;)

Hey Rosie - glad you can see it too.

Anonymous said...

No no no, CWG: calm down, cowgirl! Its not Jake in his underwear, but this (self admittedly) fat and hairy guy Ray Prewitt.

Gin with bitters: I was introduced to "pink gin" recently by an old friend who has lived in Paris partnered with a CIA agent for a decade. She's quite paranoid, sees spies everywhere, but otherwise quite elegant.

Maybe everybody knows this. I have no idea what everybody knows or not.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Gin with bitters - they drink quite a lot of that round these parts ;)

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the updates!

End of 2009 is the release date of Brothers? I sure hope they mean end of 2008!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Anon - I'm willing to bet pints on that being a mistake and it really being 2008. Fingers crossed...

Anonymous said...

Yeah, i'll keep my fingers crossed too!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

You and me both Anon :)

G'night everyone - catch up with you all tomorrow!

Anonymous said...

Isn't the name of the magazine, in fact, "American Cinematographer" ?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Quite right Anon, I'll change it.

Anonymous said...

IMDb say's release date for Brothers: Dec.4, 2009!

sass said...

TY WDW,
This is a fantastic, newsy, great post. I love coming to my oasis...yeah it rocks. Brothers is filming, so news from Santa Fe will be oh so interesting and exciting:)

I've never been to NM but I wouldn't mind visiting and assisting you younger Gyllenhallics with wardrobe preparations and changes. *hee*

I can't believe this film will have a December 2009 premiere date; yet, there it is on IMDB.

Is the far off date because of the writer's strike? How long do you think the producers or whoever will keep this up? arrgh. I am not happy.
Have a good day at work:)

Xenia said...

Thanks for your precious updates WDW, and for bringing me my daily Jake-fix...:)

I rember well the underwear scene from the original movie...;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone - phew! It's warm out there. Hope all the snowy people are OK...

Hey Jantoinette and Sass - I'm in denial about the IMDb Dec 2009 date - they've been wrong before, they can be wrong again. The script is written, filming finishes at the end of January, so unless they have the slowest editors in history and a million and one special effects we don't know about, then I can't see why it would take 20 months in post-production. Be very odd if we saw the Moon Project first! But, as always, we shall see.

Hi Xenia! It's a pleasure :D I remember that scene very well too. I also remember how hard it is to watch that scene when Jake's in the audience!

Have a good day everyone :D

Anonymous said...

I happen to take notice on the Santa Fe New Mexican link with the pic of the Brothers chairs, when you click on the pic, it mentions that filming will be complete in mid February. As you know WDW, I too read filming would be finished the end of January...we shall see like you say.

The injustice of it all, that Jake won't be doing the supposed underwear scene instead huh, LOL?!

Anonymous said...

There are a lot of remakes of foreign films by U.S. filmmakers. I'm wondering if they had to stipulate a release date for sometime in the future in order to get the rights to do the movie. I can't think of why it would be in December,'09! Is it possibly the actors' requirement? I have no idea!!!! I hope it's wrong, too. I can't wait to see this. And I hope the writers' strike ends soon so Jake can sign on for more movies.
The Moon project and the Joe Namath project leave room for a couple of movies in btwn!!!

BTW: It's been brought to my attention that someone is using my name to post comments on various messageboards. I only post on this board and on Gyllenspoon Digest.
The person doing this uses filthy language and promotes a point of view I do not share. There are some very unstable people out here. And what they've done is very cowardly. I am taking measures to have it investigated, and I would appreciate my friends here being aware of it. I only post on two sites. And WDW, one glance and you'd know that isn't me!!! BTW: Thanks for another great update.

agent_krycek said...

Duly noted bobbyanna, I haven't seen the posts, but from what you say it's obvious it isn't you, good on you for having it looked into.

Now, can anyone tell me from where in the UK I can get a direct flight to Santa Fe - this horrible mix up in the underwear needs to be sorted asap - 'tis a dirty job, but I'm willing to make sacrifics for the cause!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Bobbyanna - thanks for the headsup. I'll be alert.

Hey Agent K - no direct flights unfortunately (not that I've checked or anything ;)). But yes, we need to get hold of Jim and get the script sorted. If anyone's gotta appear in (or out of) underwear, it can be only one person. You'd have thought that would be obvious....

sass said...

Morning WDW,
Well Agent Kyrcek, I wish you could get a direct flight to NM, but even I can't manage such a wonderful feat from here...silly flight schedules be damned.

bobbyanna, I think the owner of the site will have the IP numbers of the imposters. Good luck... identity theft is a punishable offense by law. At the very least he can remove the posts.

I'm seeing white! Sass girl what the heck, we got a foot last nite, all schools closed, took me an hour to get to work, would rather be snuggeled in watching Jake movies. What's up in the City? Heard they cancelled alot of flights.

WDW, about 'Brothers" release, it's gotta be 2oo8.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Good morning New York!

Blimey, foot of snow? I think you should be wrapped up snuggly with Jake movies too. In fact, so should I, and there's no snow in London Town, just dreakness.

I'm not believing that Dec 2009 date unless Jim (or Jake) tells me so in person :D

Wrap up warm...

chillinwitgyllen said...

Good day UK, blimey right you are and a hot toddy too :D

Christie said...

A foot of snow CWG, my goodness. Hope you don't get snowed in at work. Getting snowed in at home is how it should work.

2009 for Brothers release does seem awfully far away. I hope that's wrong.

I'm getting really intrigued by the film, and found some info on the original, comparing it to the remake, and revealing aspects of the plot, which I really like the sound of. I really want to see the original now. I like intense foreign films.

agent_krycek said...

1ft of snow, all we've got in London is a pathetic attempt at drizzle - pah!

I think I'm going to give in and try and track the original of Brothers down when I pop into central London on Saturday, it's all sounding very interesting, and I want to know more!

Hey y'll! Its a beautiful day in Santa Fe! Fifty degrees F and sunny at nine a.m., guess our boy has been out running, and showered - (! ! ! !) -

Here in Western MA there is wind and snow and icy paths, and my car wont start.

A visitor this morning wanted to kow why I have a sign on my fridge saying "Where's Donnie?" (I keep forgetting to take ite down when I expect company: impossible to explain!)

Cowboy bear arrived at my door last night in light snow. The box had an airhole for breathing! Am I gonna have to "explain the bear" -
probably. . .

See ya later with hot toddies for all. also for my hot teddy. . . :)

chillinwitgyllen said...

Agent K, if I remember correctly no direct flights in Santa Fe, more than likely you'll fly into Albaquerque (sp?)and then shuttle it I think took 2 hours and it's all uphill. Weird because you really feel the altitude change, if you have asthma bring your inhaler and watch the alcohol consumption, the thinner air gets you tipsy quicker, keep well hydrated.

chillinwitgyllen said...

Christie, I work in a medical office and we NEVER close. It stopped snowing now and the sun came out so we have a break before it starts again. All the ski slops will open this weekend so that's where I'll be :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi all :D Made it home...

Hi Christie and Agent K - hope you track down the film but remember not to spill the beans ;) I know what's going to happen in Bros cos it's all in my head.

Hey Positively Pia - I'm glad your Hot Teddy arrived safe and sound. That sounds like a sensible thing to have on your fridge - I have the emblem of the Californian Republic on mine.

CWG - a weekend skiing - sounds great. Mine's going to be spent driving :(

Christie said...

Blogger just ate my comment!!

CWG, the North American snow has made the news over here. Glad to know the snow has stopped for sun and that you'll be on the ski slopes at the weekend, although skiing is such an alien activity to me. LOL

pia, good to hear that your bear has arrived, safe, sound and breathing.

agent_krycek, please let me know if you find the original Brothers this weekend, I'll search it out too as I really want to watch it. (or if you are in the christmas spirit, you may wish to loan it to me once you've watched it. For a small fee of course. *wink*).

Anonymous said...

Hey Agent K, yeah there's lots that needs to be sorted out, in S.F., not only underwear but script details and Sheridan needs to know we've written some deleted scenes to save him the trouble!

WDW it's gonna be hard to do the Zippy Longstocking bit regarding the Danish film. But I am your servant in this matter!

CWG, I used to ski Mt Mansfield in Stowe Vt in my 20s - now I just slide around on the ice in my Honda on New England backroads. So - winter joy on the slopes, girl!

Ski Santa Fe and Taos not yet open. And yes CWG is right, if you're going from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, up a couple a thousand feet elevation to high desert. Breathe deep and don't drink until you're used to it.

"Where is Donnie?"

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi all, I am listening - just doing a new post :D

Anonymous said...

ah you are listening dear WDW but is anyone else - I always regret posting late in the day - my brilliant comments gone with the wind. . . maybe, maybe not!

woof woof - wags tail.

chillinwitgyllen said...

WDW, we're waiting :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

My lovely Patient Pia - not lost in the wind at all - now is the time for me to sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy your company :D There's a pressie for you in the new post! Don't say it's too late - I only get here late!

I absolutely love all the talk of Santa Fe - you are making it all so real for me. I can almost feel the chill and see the snow twinkling. And I'm a hot weather girl ;)

Thanks for staying mum on Bros Danish version!

It's done CWG!

I don't know what can be done about the underwear, but in thinking it thru, I've decided to take up a cause started by The Departed on another blog. I am initiating a campaign to have a "Shower Clause" inserted...yes...into every single movie contract Jake signs. In the spirit of Jarhead and Moonlight Mile, I think Jake needs to be seen to take a shower in all his movies. This will set a good example for young people bcz he will be emphasizing good hygiene. It will also inspire people to be more physically fit. In fact, I think there is no limit to what Jake can inspire! I see it as a win, win. ( I will certainly support all effort to have Jake in underwear. The beauty of shower scenes is that they don't require any special wardrobe demands.)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Bobbyanna - I'm all for the obligatory shower scene - after all, Jake did it so well in MMile and Jarhead :D I quite fancy seeing a bath scene too with lots of suds (but that's the romantic in me :)) I agree that Jake doing bathing/showering scenes can only benefit the entire population of the world. When you think about it, it's the only thing to do.
