Brothers wraps on BAFTA Sunday

At noon today, New Mexico time, so in just a few hours' time, the cast and crew of Brothers will pack up and leave Los Alamos with the film in the can. And the countdown to the projected release date of 4 December 2008 begins.

While one commenter on IMDb posted their sighting: 'This past thursday I saw Jake in the bar where I work which is across the street froma home where they were shooting some scenes. God is he gorgeous!! He was in there with the director and some of the crew drinking.', another mentioned that all the stars had been in town filming last week. Always good to hear reports of Jake's gorgeousness, which, of course, is never in doubt.

There are indications that this has been a strenuous shoot, with little regard for the tedious 9 to 5 routine. Extra 'Mike the Taliban' has posted more information about life on the Brothers' set: 'This last gig on “Brothers” was the most active (less time sitting around) and certainly the c-c-c-oldest for all of us. The sets really looked like Hollywood back lots, with gung-ho Marines, guys with guns and turbans running around, and tons of lights and equipment. But this was back-country New Mexico in the middle of a cold winter. We kept warm by the fires and occasional portable heaters, keeping on our Western parkas until we heard the AD shout “picture’s up” and we’re placed for the next shot. We then take off the extra clothes and leave on the costumed stars like Tobey Maguire have costumers that keep on their parkas until the last possible moment then whisked them away - when that same AD (Assistant Director) shouts “rolling, rolling…!” My last Friday on the set, now way out in the middle of the Zia pueblo, we had an 18 hour day! Even for an extra, that’s a lot of overtime!'

With a release date set for December this year, Brothers has already been mentioned by Variety as a possible contender for the Oscars in 2009, particularly for its interesting director-actors combo. Of course, Heath Ledger's Joker may well be remembered at the Oscars in 2009.

Talking of the awards season. Tonight is the British Academy Film Awards, again from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. But this time, of course, it's all very different from last year. This year, I'll be watching the ceremony from home, but my thoughts will be back there a year ago to the day when I first saw Jake Gyllenhaal. I'll also be crossing my fingers for Daniel Day Lewis and Cate Blanchett and trying to hold it together when the Academy remembers those who have been lost. Here's a happy reminder of last year.

Here's another video of Jake on the red carpet at the BAFTAs - although you have to sort of lie on your side or turn your monitor around - which I'd never seen before. It shows the moment when Jake has his picture taken with a girl and I realised that myself and my friends were just a few feet away at that point, as I remember watching the photo being taken. I think the chaos (and angle!) of this video gives a great impression of what it was like as we tried to follow Jake down the red carpet.

So my thoughts and love are also with my three BAFTA Sisters on our anniversary (strictly tomorrow I know, but it feels like it should be today)! Includes pictures from IHJ.

Nine AM and 35 degrees F and clear on the Los Alamos mesa. So they're finishing up today! SO GOOD to kmow Jake and Tobey and Natalie and Jim Sheridan have been at work this past week. There's a hot spring called "Giggling Springs" not too far from Los Alamos - they should ALL get nekkid and giggle.

One of my favorites pictures from Heath's wake is Michelle in the surf embraced by seven women friends. Birth and death, for me, is a woman's venue. Ive known a few guys who end up in the emergency ward with sympathetic birth pains! Please, fellas! Not helpful!

BAFTA SUNDAY! A shout out to y'all.
Ive seen the first video a hundred times, but the second makes me kinda dizzy. thanks, I guess.

Yay Taliban Mike!

Thanks for today's post darlin' WDW!

Morning WDW,
Enjoying myself here immensely. You're posts are amazing. I can't wait to watch the Baftas tonight on BBC-America:)
Maybe next year Jake will have a movie in the running.

Morning!

Great post again WDW!! Good to hear the news of Jake sightings. Yes it does make sense that he has been back in NM. I am sending him big hugs. Congrats to Brothers crew! Now they can celebrate it being done. Can't wait to see it in Dec.

Yay Bafta day! Wonderful memories of the last two Baftas. Lucky Bafta ladies who were there in person to be witness to the Gyllencharm. So dreamy...sigh.

Thank you all for yesterday. We finally have sun today. :)

Pia, you always make me smile.

Hugs all

Sass, I will be watching the Baftas on BBCA too! I am an Anglophile and have always been a huge fan of BBCA.

"There's a hot spring called "Giggling Springs" not too far from Los Alamos - they should ALL get nekkid and giggle." (pia)

Could that be like the "whiskey spring" Jack talked about? What's in that water anyway?! :)

Hey Neely, yeah, and they all thought Jack Twist was full of it - full of life, rather. . .

Hi everyone - it's such a beautiful day here that I popped out to go and sit in a pub garden by the river to have a pint while watching the boats and ducks - would've been great if you'd joined me :)

Sounds a lot colder in Los Alamos than here - Jake'll be glad to get back to the climes of LA.

Giggling Springs - Jake nekkid and giggly - definitely. Jim Sheridan? Hmmmm.

Yeah, the second video can make you dizzy but it's a great kind of dizzy :D Thanks for reading the post Pia xx

Hi Sass! I'm already keeping my fingers crossed for next year.

Thanks Get Real :D Can't help but smile on Bafta Day. Definitely good to have Jake sightings too. Glad to hear you've got good weather at last.

Hi Neely - I know, springs don't make you giggle for nothing ;)

(((WDW))) and, if you are out there, (((Anouska))) and (((mouk))).

And for (((everyone))) of course.

Is there any reason to watch Bafta tonight? I'm not sure I'm ready for Heath in memorial. :(

It is good to have word of Jake, especially Jake working. And to know that later this year there will be interviews and promotions and trips to the UK on his schedule. :D (ok, that last one may be wishful thinking!)

I can't believe it was a whole year ago, that wonderful BAFTA night...not that I was there, but I certainly drooled in front of the tv at Jake.I loved that last vid, what an atmosphere! Oh to have been there! I envy you lucky ladies who were.

It was good to hear of Jake. I've been worried like the rest of you. I'm glad Brothers is all wrapped up, just have to wait to see it now. I'm looking forward to it.

"they should ALL get nekkid and giggle"

These are the wisest words I've heard all day! Nice one Pia :D

I can't believe it's been a year since WDW made me get up in the middle of the night to go to London and stand around in the cold all day! But, as Heath said on Oprah, 'Things warmed up pretty quickly'! :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

(((Ruby))) and everyone :D What a day - I'm in two minds whether to watch the Baftas myself but the memories are so good.

And very good to have word of Jake. Can't wait for Brother to come out and have Jake doing his stuff again :D

Hi Rosie - it was an amazing time and I'm counting on repeating it at some time.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Ruby - 'nekkid' and 'giggly' and 'Jake' just all go so well together...

And you know you loved me making you get up at 3 in the morning :D

I rented 'Lords of Dogtown' this weekend because it was one of the few films of Heath's I hadn't seen.

The film itself? Eh. But Heath was fucking hilarious and moving all at the same time. He's the best thing in the movie by far. Cheers Heath and thanks for making me smile.

As for the BAFTAS GO DANIEL DAY LEWIS!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Amy - I've not seen that film but I'm going to make sure I do.

I've jut been watching some red carpet footage from the Baftas and good to see Daniel Day Lewis - No doubt Ruby will be pleased to see James MacAvoy :D

BirdGirl said...

James MacAvoy is so yummy. I'll be watching as well. Have a good day all.

Anonymous said...

can someone provide links to stream BAFTA red carpet on internete?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Bird Girl - I've never got the appeal of him myself - I just humour Ruby ;) But I love his accent!

Hey Pia - The red carpet finished a while back. The show's under way now but is staggered for TV. So it'll start on the BBC in 10 minutes at 9pm. They showed about 5 minutes of it on the news here.

Anonymous said...

For those in the States the Bafta Red Carpet will be on the E! Channel tomorrow (Monday) at 9pm EST.
Info here.

I do like James MacAvoy a lot! Saw him interviewed a couple of times and he has a great sense of humor, is a talented actor and sexy. Kind of like out boy! ;D Yes, go DDL!! If you haven't seen There Will Be Blood, go see it! Brilliant performance and movie. Plus, Jake's godfather was the cinematographer!

It was sunny here this morning and now it is snowing heavily. Glad I got out and enjoyed the sun before it started.

Bafta girls WDW and Ruby, I'm just home from my travels and I've been thinking about last year too, when this year's coverage came on TV. Tonight feels like the real anniversary, all right. I couldn't deal with watching this year's red carpet ... the highlights are starting now and I'm not sure I can face them either :)

See you both soon, and love to mouk too if she's reading **

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi get Real! Watching the Baftas now and the sound is buggered! Jonathan Ross sounds even odder than normal (ooh they've fixed it, must've heard me). Very weird seeing such familiar faces from last year on the red carpet, many faces from last year, such as Sir Ian. But no Jake and no us!

I don't think There Will be Blood is even out in the UK yet!

Hope you're Ok with all the snow.

Hey Anouska ** Hope you had a good flight home. Definitely feels like tonight is the anniversary - just remember stroking that sleeve :D Watching the red carpet highlights brought the memories flooding back but some fear that I may see Jake and realise I missed him! But it makes me wish we could turn back that time.

I heard from Mouk today and she's thinking of us all and Jake too - and she should be meeting up with us soon.

I think I may dream of Red Carpet Jake tonight.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

They just showed the list of those we have lost during the last year and there at the end, with a clip (the quit you clip) from BBM was Heath. Everyone was visibly moved, including Orlando, Kevin Spacey , Jeff Goldblum and Jonathan Ross.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor! And he came on stage to Arcade Fire and Jake's theme from last year.

Anonymous said...

Watched red carpet streamed, and sure wished to turn back the clock to last year. I suspect y'all who were there have similar feelings.

paulh said...

I'm glad Jake has finished filming "Brothers." No one else has mentioned this, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jake felt a lot of pressure to finish his film, knowing that Heath was unable to finish the film *he* was working on.

Plus, it's hard to inhabit a character, and have your concentration broken by a terrible tragedy. The cast of "Imaginarium" was said to be open to the idea of other people finishing Heath's scenes, but they had been so shocked by the death that they wiouild have difficulty getting back into their characters.

Acting is very hard work

Evening WDW,

The Bafta awards were fun. If only the Oscars were like that; fast to the podium, fun commentary by the host, not too many painful speeches and then off.

Atonement's win for Best Picture made my day.
The film was overlooked here, maybe, because we had so many films to fit in.

Of course I loved it when one presenter said that the writer's strike is over. I hope:)

Daniel Day Lewis seems like such a kind gentle humble elegant man. Then we get to see him as this fierce character in TWBB; what a actor.

The announcer said that Tilda Swinton was wearing couture by Christian Dior. Why? I've fallen in love with her personality and her hair.
And she has an absolutely gorgeous beautiful long lean body--see Michael Clayton--so why would they have her wear a dress with such a huge amount of material attached to it.
Even so, she was still regal and elegant. They can't keep a good girl down.

The Baftas is showing again, now at 2300, and once more at 0100.

The Baftas ROCK!!
GO Kate and all my UK friends.
XOXOXO
sass

Good morning everyone :) Hope everyone in the bad weather is OK. Thick fog and ice here :(

Hi Pia - the entire evening I was wishing myself back a year ago...

Paul, I agree, that it must be very hard to be another character when having to deal with such serious real life issues. I hope Jake can have a rest now.

Hi Sass - I loved how fast-moving the Baftas were, and I liked the musical intros. I think some people were 'annoyed' to not win awards - poor old James MacAvoy! - but there's always another year! I really like Tilda but that dress! Mind you, Mr WDW liked it so I don't know...

Have a good day everyone :D

Morning everyone,

didn't watch the whole BAFTA, am happy that Daniel Day-Lewis won :) Even though I am bit puzzled by why Atonement won the big one at the end when it only snatched Production Design in other category.... all in all, no film truly stand outs as winner this year.

Sounds like Jake is filming back to back, like he did in 2005? maybe work is the best therapy. Someone put a production notice on imdb, filming starts on 14 April.

BAFTA without Jake is not the same...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Winterbird :) I was puzzled by Atonement winning Best Film as well. All in all a strange collection of winners.

I take it you're referring to the starting date of Nailed? And of course now the strike is over there should be no more holdups with scripts being completed for any other project. Wouldn't mind knowing with the Moon Project will get underway - just can't wait for that one :D

BAFTA without Jake just doesn't seem right...

G'morning, y'all. Dreamed I cried my eyes out in my daddy's arms. Felt good. In fact, feels like kind of a new day, today: maybe this has helped relievek, for me, the awful sorrow of Heath's death and what has felt like coming down from the BB Mt after the summer of paradise.

Into the morning shower - see you later.

Hi everyone and hey there you WDW!

I'm happy to hear news from working Jake...

God, 2007 Bafta Jake was stunning, how could you ladies stand on your feet with THAT Jake so close?...
You're brave!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Pia on your new day :) I hope it's a great one *

Hey Xenia - It wasn't easy I can assure you but someone had to do it ;)

Seriously, Bafta Jake was simply breathtaking :P

Hi WDW,hello folks. It's been quite a week-end. It's a good job I've got this week off on my own so I've been able to catch up this afternoon and comment on the poignant "Wake" post and this nostalgic and wistful Bafta-fest!

I feel like I've been through the wringer this weekend. I found the accounts and pictures of Heath's memorial service which I read on Saturday morning so moving I sobbed me heart out again. Much more crying later that same afternoon with some emotional upheavals at home (thankfully now settled and calm again) and yesterday I spent getting myself back on an even keel...which was going quite well, until the "Roll Of Honour" at last night's lacklustre Bafta ceremony. Even though I/we knew that Heath would certainly be the last dear, departed actor commemorated, closing that melancholy montage, it was still like a shot to the heart when the clips from "A Knight's Tale""10 things.." and "Brokeback" bled into the final black and white still marking so short yet so special a life. More tears - don't know how I had any left.

You're right,WDW,many in the audience did seem genuinely moved, especially Sienna Miller,"Francesca" to Heath's "Casanova" head bowed and sobbing quietly. So many people touched by him and miss him so much.

Where on earth did that year go,WDW??!! It doesn't seem five minutes since you and your Bafta sisters were apoplectic with excitement, having encountered the gorgeousness that is "Red Carpet Jake". If only we could turn back time. So much can change in 24 hours let alone a year.

Hopefully, next year Jake will be in attendance again,a little older,a little sadder,a little wiser maybe, but, with luck, in line for awards for at least one of his 2008 projects. I sincerely hope that work has been, and will continue to be, something of a lifeline and a solace for him as he continues to work through recent events and tries to come to terms with it all. We're all sending you our love,(((Jake)))

(((Nadine))) Thank you for that comment - yet again, you said it all so well, so I don't have to. Take care, hun:)

I didn't watch the Baftas last night, didn't seem to be much point as there was no one I was particularly interested in seeing.Well, I do have a soft spot for James McAvoy cos I loved him in Shameless and of course Daniel Day Lewis but I haven't seen Atonement or There Will Be Blood yet so I didn't have anyone or anything to really root for. I saw the tribute thing on YouTube though and it made me go all wobbly again:(

Let's hope next year's Baftas are a happier event, with an appearance from our Jakey:)

At next year's BAFTAS Heath will probably be a nominee...he may even be a winner.

Greetings all. I watched the BAFTA's with pain in my heart. All of my thoughts were on Heath and poor Jake.

I had a dream last night that I was playing in the snow with Jake and Heath. I wanted to cry when I woke up. I forgot for a moment that he was gone.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi everyone - good to see you all.

Nadine thanks so much for that comment. I hope yo can enjoy your week and get over the weekend. I feel like I went through the wringer too, but I do feel better today.

I have no idea where the year went but I do know it had glorious moments in it :)

Hi TL - I've not seen the films either - they didn't show them near me and no sign of DDL's epic round here. But I've always loved the glamour of these events. I recorded the BAFTAs last year and I think later this week I'm going to watch the whole thing and enjoy the memory.

Hey Anon - that would be great for Heath to be recognised like that :)

Bird Girl - what an amazing dream! Sad to wake from something like that - take care xx
