Jake leaves Urth Cafe update and WDW's Road Trip continues

Thanks to Stephanie at IHJ, here are a couple more pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal leaving S Beverly Drive's Urth Cafe yesterday, having had lunch with one of his familiar and lovely PAs, blissfully unaware that I'd had breakfast at the same place just a couple of hours before. There is also a video, which is quite innocuous and good-natured. You can see it here, at a site that gets the identity of the cafe entirely wrong and ignores the fact that Jake has folded the paper to fit a crossword puzzle and is carrying a pen, believing he is instead reading a play advertisement.

In the video you can see Jake pull something off his windscreen, making me suppose he may have a parking ticket, which is as common at Urth Cafe as a small pot of hot tea, with honey, lemon and low fat milk on the side - very common indeed. Also, and completely off topic, if I'd have still been sitting at the seat where I'd been an insanely maddening three hours or so earlier, Jake would have been no more than a foot away and I would undoubtedly have seen which clues he still needed help with.

WDW Road Trip - Disneyland

I'm going completely off topic here for a few moments just to share a few snaps of my day at Disneyland. It is speculated that WDW and Pluto narrowly missed one another at the beer stall at the Pacific Wharf in the California Adventure park but until I've seen pap pics of Pluto leaving the Wharf, I prefer not to believe it.

I did go on Space Mountain but only because Winterbird told me to. I didn't go on the Teacups because this is a ride I would only want to share with Jake Gyllenhaal. I would have gone on the Matterhorn - honestly - but it was shut. I did go on Soarin' (frequently) and on the Indiana Jones ride, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean. I also helped Buzz Lightyear defeat alien invaders.

There is one ride that I absolutely would not go on, having once, in Florida, gone on it by mistake, thinking it a gentle walking tour - the Tower of Terror. Always study the name of rides, that's my tip - likewise I didn't realise that the Aerosmith Rock and Rollercoaster was a rollercoaster, with the fastest acceleration of any rollercoaster, until I was sitting in it with my eyes welded shut and no way to get off.

You can be assured that the road trip will end, honestly! Tomorrow is the turn of a new part of town. Pictures from (the on-topic ones) IHJ and (the off-topic ones) WDW.

Love your trip-diary, WDW!

I wonder how Americans take their tea? I never add milk in tea like Earl Grey, only with honey and lemon.

If Jake and me sit in Teacups together, thatwould a major disaster... not that I'd do anything in public to him *rolls eyes*, but since we both have vertigo problem. We might end up throwing up together... actually that's kind of romantic... lol.

Hi WDW!

Glad your trip is going so well, but sorry you just missed Jake! You may see him yet. He looks great in the new pics. :)

You are a braver woman than I, WDW, I am absolutely terrified of roller coasters! The last time I was on one, when it was at the very top and stopped just before a straight plummet down, I swear I lost one of my nine lives and have never been on one since!

As far as tea, I live on the stuff - I like just the plain, old black tea with a little milk, rarely I'll have it just with lemon, and once in awhile something a little nicer like Earl Grey. But usually, it's just the everyday stuff. It's a panacea for anything that I know of. In fact, after that vivid roller coaster memory, I may just need a cup. Whew!

I've always been a coffee person,
but since the teacups are there for a reason, I put coffee in them. Go figure! :-)

Those pics of Jake are absolutely great. I don't know which rollercoasters are the fastest, but I was in Hershey Park (Pennsylvania) a couple years ago, and they boast some pretty fast ones.

I was at Disneyland 40 years ago, and have fond memories of Tom Sawyer Island. I'm just a modest man, with much to be modest about.

Morning/afternoon Winterbird! Thanks for indulging me :D

At Urth they want you to have oney and lemon in your Earl Grey but I'm odd in that I like it with milk. That's such a romantic image there of you and Jake throwing up together

Hi Bertie - he does look great and that definitely makes up a bit for just missing him. I hate rollercoasters. At Disneyland tere's this tower that lifts you up and then drops you straight down - ugh - and while I was there I was a magazine and there was a picture of Harrison Ford on that ride looking like he was having a great time (I wonder if he went on the Indiana Jones ride...). In my hotel I have no kettle and no coffee maker, so no tea for me :(

Hi Paul - Tom Sawyer's Island is still there, looking rather lovely in the sunshine. I do get quite a bit of pleasure watching other people on rollercoasters, better on the stomache that way. I never used to like coffee until I started working in London, which has a real coffee culture - can't get enough of it now - it's a lot cheaper in LA that's for sure :D It was interesting watching the fuss when Starbucks closed all their shops for a couple of hours yesterday. Some people looked like they weren't gonna make it!

Hope everyone has/is having a great day :D

Hey WDW! Glad you had a good time yesterday:) Can't believe you missed Pluto! As if missing Jake wasn't bad enough;)

I can't be doing with all that fancy tea myself - call me common but you can't beat good old PG Tips with milk and sugar;) I wonder how Jake likes his tea?

I hope all my fellow Brits are ok after the earthquake last night. There weren't any injuries reported luckily, but apparently there was quite a bit of damage to houses nearer the epicentre. All I felt here was a slight wobble rather than actual shaking but it was still pretty scary!!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi TL! Glad to hear you're not too shaken. The quake made the news in LA last night.

Jake likes his tea anyway I make it - he's polite like that :D This is all making me thirsty. I'm heading out soon for breakfast in Santa Monica :)

twistedlogic said...

Tbh, I would've been less scared if I'd realised it was an earthquake! I felt one in Spain years ago and that was a proper walls shaking and things falling off shelves job, but this was just like a light rocking feeling, kind of like being on a boat. I was watching one of the key scenes from Rendition at the time and I thought I'd finally lost my mind completely and was imagining things!!! I was very relieved when a friend texted me to ask if I'd felt the earthquake!

Have fun in Santa Monica today. That's SANTA MONICA, Jake, you got that? :D

Hey WDW another great travel diary!

Sounds like you had a blast at DL. Glad you got to go on Space Mountain. I also made the mistake of going on The Tower of Terror at DW. Let's just say never again..lol. Riding the teacups with Jake sounds really nice. And yes he does look so great in the new pics!

As for tea, I love all kinds. I also like it mostly with a little milk or lemon and sugar. But I am not picky. There is a shop here called Tea & Sympathy and it is owned and operated from transplanted Brits and they served the real stuff straight from the UK. Thousands of teas and British foods. They also have a fish and chips shop. Great little place in the Village.

Hope those in the UK are okay after that earthquake?

How come they closed down Starbucks?

Have a great time in Santa Monica. I was there a few years ago and loved it.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Blimey, TL. Tha sounds scarey. Glad to hear this quake didn't interrupt your Rendition viewing though - Jake'll be pleased to hear that. Talking of whom, I'm sure Jake'd like nothing better than a walk on the pier today :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Get Real! That Tower of Terror is not to be recommended for anyone, I'm surprised I still don't get the nightmares :D

I love the sound of Tea and Sympathy :D I had fish and chips at DW and it was nothing like it. The best tea I ever had was in California, a few years ago at the most beautiful lodge hotel, around Big Sur.

I think they were doing staff training and decided to close all of their stores at the same time. Weird!

I love Santa Monica too - great shops, lots of interesting things and people to see, fab seafood and yet another Urth! Have a good day :D

twistedlogic said...

It would take more than a minor earthquake to tear me away from Jake! I guess that's as close as I'll ever get to Jake making the earth move for me:D

Keeping my fingers crossed for you today!

TL, wow that is scary. Glad you are okay.

WDW, Tea & Sympathy website and A Salt and Battery fish n chips website

I am though a coffee addict and that is really weird they would close all the Starbucks at the same time.

I have to ask what DW is?

Anway, have a great day everyone!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That's funny TL!

Hey thanks Get Real :D DW is Disneyworld - I was being lazy :D Have a great day too - another beautiful, sunny and hot day in LA. Fabulous.

ole, sweet peas! WDW you are GETTING CLOSER - a near miss! - of course your karma may take a few more years and visits here and there to resolve but it WILL HAPPEN.

in my view.

in the meantime, what is the parking situation in Bev. Hills? Was Jake parking in a red curb zone? DID he get a ticket? dont they tow, in L.A.? what DO they do?

as a New Yorker Im a little testy since I got yelled at in L.A. for jaywalking, a cop shouted "this is not New York City, lady. . . "

In reply to Winterbird, how do USAans take their tea, I personally, dont: tea is for pussies. (Im kidding: would never put cream sugar nor even lemon in a fine tea. . . )

what else are we talking about today besides teacups and earthquakes, OMG? British Isles? I thought y'all ruled not only the sea but those ornery shifting platelets! where is Hank Cinque, anyway? whut's the world coming to? and when?

well Im glad the peonies, roses, fushia and so forth are in bloom in Santa Monica, if, indeed, they are - do I sound bitter about being in Massachusetts the end of February (with an extra day, to boot) YOU BET!

c'est moi, needless to report

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Pia! I wish I could bring you some summer, I really do. As if February isn't bad enough without someone stretching it this year.

People in Beverly Hills seem to be able to park the biggest cars into the smallest places and doen't seem to mind the tickets :D It's all parking meters - I don't know how anyone could ever have enough quarters on them (I once had to beg them in San Francisco to be able to park). This red curb business is odd - in London you cross anywhere - you might not live to tell the tale but generally you can hurl yourself out in front of traffic wherever you please.

I could ctually really do with a decent cup of coffee right now - I have to get moving if I'm gonna see some peonies.

I think I can answer the question about Starbucks being closed for two hours the other day: every barister in every Starbucks in the U.S. had to go to a class on proper brewing of latte.

Hi Paul - well in that case it was a very good idea as I cannot abide Starbucks' Lattes - they should do the same in the UK :D

Anonymous said...

Duh, thanks for the DW explanation, WDW. I should have realized it was Disney World as I just used DW in a post above. I am not fully awake yet. Oy!

Paul, thanks for the Starbucks info. Surprised that all the Starbucks would have training on the same day. Wouldn't they want some of their stores open?

Pia, I am with you. As a NY I just jaywalk as a habit. When I am out of the city I have to remind myself not to do it.

Anonymous said...

for anyone who has ever had a decent expresso or cappachinno Starbucks concoctions are an insult to civilization.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Jaywalking's not illegal in the UK and I only found out it was somewhere else when this cop scared the life out of me when I was in Wash DC as a teenager. We've seen some pics of Jake jaywalking in BH so we're in good company, as is he ;D

In England I go to EAT for my coffee - yum.

I wish we had the Weather Channel in the UK.... It's addictive

Anonymous said...

Illegal jaywalking is for pussified cities.

twistedlogic said...

A Salt and Battery fish n chips
Lol! That's so bad it's good:D Definitely one for the history books, as Jake would say;)

I remember The Weather Channel from TDAT. I'm sure I had it years ago, when I was with a different cable company but it could be my imagination.

Be careful out there WDW, with the jaywalking! text me if you see Jake:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Makes me want to come up with a Jake film menu :D TL, I've still not got out because I'm too mesmerised by the Weather Channel showing all this snow in the NE. I notice that they never show LA weather...

I text you if I don't see Jake so I'll certainly text you if I do :D Never mind the jaywalking, I wanna see some Jakewalking. I know, terrible, I just couldn't resist it :D

twistedlogic said...

Never mind the jaywalking, I wanna see some Jakewalking.

Oh Spooky Twin -I nearly said that too, but I stopped myself! :D
Some jaywalking Jake would be nice;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Yeah well, TL, you'd already done the earth moving joke, I reckoned I could rival it :D

Anonymous said...

Earthquake??? sorry, didn't feel a thing. In fact, i was still awake when it allegedly happen.

London's Starbucks are horrible, if I may say so... at least it seems like the ones in US are better. I usually go to Cafe Nero for my fix.

Jaywalking is a must in London (how else can you cross the road? lol), Jake will feel right at home here.. in this aspect. He might find the choice of soy milk a bit limited here :P

btw, I went to the Whole Foods store in South Kensington just for fun and paid £4 for a bag of potatoes. I need Jake's presence there to make that worthwhile...

Have a great day in Santa Monica, WDW!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

£4 for a bag of potatoes! Blimey, Winterbird. It needs Jake's presence and his wallet to shop there :D I haven't been in that store although Anouska, Ruby and I did hit Fortnum and Mason's down the road, just to look at the chocolates.

Crossing the road in London is a skill I'm proud of, I have to remind myself that I just can't charge in front of the traffic here - mind you, here you've got about 10 lanes to cross ;) There aren't the armies of despatch riders out to get me though!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I deleted your double comment, Winterbird :D

The Weather Channel is great isn't it? I actually get made fun of because I watch it so often. What's wrong with that? Nothing beats the groovy music they play during the local forecast. I sometimes wonder if it’s porno music.

Have a great day everyone!

O gee time for evening tipple and WDW is On The Road - damn you Jack Keroac! (and others)

Okay stayin' on topic, "WDW's Road Trip continues. . ." (damn you Jack Keroac!), jaywalking, California, etcetec.

Mary Kennan Herbert, from a poem call'd Long Shot:

The intense California sun fires up my desires:
a sunset as perfect as a painted sky in a movie

gives us a backdrop for the grill, gulls
overhead, leering Royal Palms, and the hungry jay.

My brother points west: "Twelve blocks straight ahead,
the Pacific Ocean. It's right over there."

Later, looking for the sacred sea, I crossed streets
in Santa Monica, marveling how traffic comes

to a synchronized halt. Now that's power.
Do not abuse it here in paradise.

(thus speaks New Yorker jealous of WDW in paradise, which is wherever JAKE IS, or nearby.)

hi everyone. On The Road with Wdw is great. When Jake finally catches up with you wdw, please tell him from me that he's looking fine.

I'm struggling this evening because my beloved iBook has crashed in spectacular fashion. Hope the Apple doc can fix it.

Have a great day/evening/night or whatever applies - I'm getting confused with everyone's timezones with wdw not being in mine at the moment. Throws out the routine!

Btw you can get the Weather Channel here wdw, you just need the right cable package.

Anonymous said...

hi Ruby glad Im not the only one fretting about change a time zones. csnt everybody just sit still until April?

twistedlogic said...

I can't get used to the different timezones either. When I don't see a new post in the evening my first thought is "OMG where's WDW? Is she ok?" and then I remember she's out having fun in the sun and hopefully feasting her eyes on our Jake:)

Love that poem, Pia! I wish I was there...

WDW tells me she saw surfer dudes today in Santa Monica; I only ever see commuter dudes, it's all wrong :D

London Starbucks coffee is vile. I get mine at Costa. We'll have to make sure EAT, Costa and Caffe Nero are never bought up.

Lovely post, WDW :D

twistedlogic said...

Surfer dudes, huh? Nice;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Phew! What a relief - Blogger seemed well and truly broken...

Good to see you all in this bewildering array of timezones - I wish I could be in everyone of them, but all with this weather. The sunburn is very fetching. Back at the hotel happily sat in front of the Weather Channel.

Talking of which - there's nothing wrong with liking The Weather Channel, Bird Girl. I always look forward to it :D It's great for that jetlag at 4 in the morning. Mr WDW, when he's over in the US with me, is also hooked on it, and always says 'Why is it local on the 8s?'

Pia - I love the poem :D I was back at the Urth late this afternoon, sitting at the table next to the Urth sign you see in the shots with Jake, and just wishing it were two days ago, but all was quiet, just me and my Earl Grey.

Hi Ruby! I'll tell Jake and pass on all your messages :D That's really bad news about your lovely iBook - I hope they fix it soon. I have trouble with my laptop now and again and I blame RealTime Player and Flash.

My flat can't get cable:( I suppose the Weather Channel will have to stay a holiday treat (unless you tape it for me ;D)

TL - I wish you were here too. I really miss chatting to you and everyone in the evenings. I get back here and everyone's gone! But I'm gonna be around all the time next week :D

Hey Anouska - The surfer dudes were hot and I got to feel the sand beneath my feet. I'm not missing that commute but I am missing our lunches :)

Yep TL, Nice :D
