I had a long walk round Beverly Hills and visited some familiar places from Jake's LA, including Sprinkles. I'd have gone in, but the line stretched outside the door and quite a distance down the street. Rodeo Drive stores were decorating their windows with displays commemorating the Academy Awards. No paparazzi around tonight but no doubt there's plenty of activity going on in these designer showrooms. Here are more 'Jake places' seen today.

Sprinkle is that place for cupcakes??? I don't know, I don't really fancy cupcakes, unless Jake is eating them :P
I really, really have to tell you this.
There is one song that brings back to me all the warm feelings for my dear kind, cheerful but also troubled father. He played it on the piano in the dining room of our flat, singing it loud and clear and very happily despite its content; the power of music.
The other night, trying to sleep, temporarily alone, having a bit of fever, I suddenly got some kind of a vision: I saw the big auditorium of the Kodak theatre; it was the Academy Award show. Then a young man jumped up on the stage. It was Jake. He grabbed a microphone and said: “I would like to sing a song I know at least some of you know very well. It is next to an national anthem to a country I have learnt to admire, due one of its compatriots. Mayby the orchestra could follow me. It begins like this: ‘Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong’" And then he started to sing this
Then my eyes were filled with tears.
Eventually I fell asleep.
No explanation is necessary.

My own druther would be Jake with family watching and commenting - and wouldnt I love to hear such commentary. Since Robt Elswit is up for an award, and suspected to win I wonder what that will mean to G family in terms of attendence, party going, etcetc. Also, who gets invitations to Awards Ceremeony? Surely voting memberes, and Jake is one.
So much I dont know!
Been watching Zodiac commentary for second time, and wondering to what extent Jake discusses his films with his family - and how much during filming? Expect Stephen Naomi Maggie Peter have lots of opinions - since I DO and Im not even in the field.
Hey WDW! That sounds like fun, doing the Jake tour of LA:)Shame about the queue at Sprinkles though. I bet Jake doesn't have to queue round the block;) I'm impressed that you're able to recognise any of those places from the background of Jake's pics. I don't think I'd recognise my own front door if Jake was standing in front of it:D
Speaking of front doors, guess what dropped through my letterbox today? Yes, my Rendition DVD!!! Woohoo!!! It's actually a Canadian version not a US one but I'm not complaining. I honestly didn't expect it til Monday at the earliest so to say I'm happy is the understatement of the year:D
The icing on the cake would be if Jake does show up at the Oscars, I still have Sky Movies until Monday so I'll be able to record it if he does show. Fingers crossed!

Hey Winterbird - Sprinkles cupcakes aren't just any old cupcakes - they're the most expensive cupcakes on the planet! They also do cupcakes for dogs. Each day they do different flavours. When you order them you have to give your name and I always wonder if they ask Jake's... But the queue yesterday evening, never seen anything like it for a cake. When I buy one I'll take a picture of it :D
Lots of sunshine but not that warm, it's supposed to rain on the Oscars and then be very warm on Monday.

Anouska - I was so, so tired last night, I couldn't do any of the things you instructed! But I can recommend Blackstone Winery's 2005 Merlot ;) I did try and watch films I'd not seen before - I did see the Elizabeth film and two hours of Top Gear and Hammond meeting Evil Kinevil (spelling?) - I thought the Hamster and Jake Gyllenhaal both on the inflight entertainment, I'm flying by a luckystar ;)

Anyway, I am not sure Jake will be at the Oscars tomorrow night. I don't get the feeling he is going but you never know! He may be at the Indie Spirits today and will definitely be at the Night Before Oscar private Party tonight. He is listed among the big A-listers as a host. You can check out the info here. It is a private event with no press or paps but you may see the folks arriving. And that would include a certain someone. ;)
They're showing the VF party on TV? Wow, I never knew that. I heard Jake was supposed to be presenting at some charity thing tonight but I thought it was a no press thing? Anyway, good to know you're on the lookout for our boy;)

Doh! yeah, obviously if the VF party is cancelled it wouldn't be on tv. Sorry about that, my brain's not working properly atm (yeah, I know, does it ever?). I'm really down cos it's been a bad day for the Gunners but also really happy cos of my Rendition DVD, so I'm all over the place atm.
I didn't know Richard Hammond shared the same birthday as Jake. That's as good a reason as any to like him, I suppose;) TL Jr liked him too, she's not happy that he doesn't do Brainiac anymore.
I would definitely check out that Night Before thing if I was you (if it's practical, of course). What have you got to lose? And just think what you could gain:)

Hi WDW...so glad to see you made it safe and sound. I have been to California 3 times in the past year..but have yet to make it to Jake's part of the state...Lovely that you get to visit the "Jake" haunts...ah Sprinkles...I would love to go there..I am so hooked on my sweets..BUT since I cannot get to Sprinkles itself, I am going to have to settle for baking my own cupcakes with recipes from the Sprinkles bakery..found a couple on the net...ANYWAY..so looking forward to all your reporting from the left coast...
Thanks for the always yummy pics of Jake...the last pic of him putting the groceries in his car reminds me of my life...my husband is an avid bicyclist..(no wonder I love a man in spandex...next to the grey cardigan, of course..hee hee) and I am forever moving wheels etc out of the way to put other things, like groceries in the trunk of our car..SIGH..I checked out the official oscar website, but there was no mention of our lovely amongst the presenters...you can imagine my dire disappointment..still I will watch..perhaps there was some mistake..take care out there in La La Land amongst the crazies!!

Thanks for the welcome Trekfan! The bottom of the top 2 was taken when Jake arrived back at LAX after filming BBM. I can't remember when the first was taken. The same year I think.
I went over to Bedford Drive last night - the two photos below the LAX ones - where he's crossing the road wearing jeans and shirt (my all time fave Jake photo:D) and coming out of a parking lot - those were both taken on Bedford Drive. I'm going to get over to Brentwood and Santa Monica later in the week.

I think the Independent Spirit Awards should be letting out in seven minutes, and since it's held on the beach in Santa Monica...I think... maybe some of the actors will eat nearby maybe and you might see a few of them here and there.

I'm Not There, received the first time Robert Altman award. Todd Todd Haynes made his acceptance speech and dedicated the award to the wonderful creativity of Heath.
Other actors dedicated their awards to Heath as well.

LA is an industry town. In spite of the fact it's awards weekend, and while there are always some private parties, and some club kids that hang out until dawn, it would not surprise me at all if they roll up the sidewalks fairly early.
If someone really wanted to run into JBG, I would think an early riser might find him biking or running, or out for breakfast arounf 10 AM-ish, after a workout.
All the usual "hot spots" (restaurants) are probably overrun with "stars" in town for the Oscar related events.

Hi everyone - just got back from a night and a half having gatecrashed my way into the Beverly Hills Hotel - blimey, you wouldn't believe the evening I've had. No Jake but not for want of trying. But instead, I saw Nicole Kidman and Orlando Bloom. I tried so hard to see Jake but got evicted.
TL - that's terrible about Eduardo! I'm really shocked. I don't follow football but I do know some good players and he's one of them :(

Hi anon - there are loads of parties around this weekend - I saw three this evening just walking to the BH hotel. Everywhere is very busy. But I do think some big stars - like Jake - will try and keep to their normal routine and excercise in the morning. It really is amazing here.
Oh yes, I saw a woman with a rabbit on a lead at Urth cafe this morning - this is not normal!
