Thanks to Get Real for providing the link to a full account of The Night Before party last night at the Beverly Hills Hotel. As well as confirmation that Jake Gyllenhaal was there - although alas he got in without me seeing him - we also hear that the stars had to run a MacDonald's gauntlet. They then had the chance to play video games and choose sneakers. It suggests they may all have gone home with hands full.
That is backed up by this new report from the party - but still with no pictures. This also reminds me that I forgot to mention that I saw Christina Applegate last night as well, sitting in the foyer. I got lost wandering around the bungalows at the Beverly Hills Hotel (nearly ending up in the tennis courts) and it's strange thinking that I could have bumped into the lovely Jennifer Aniston.
No post about the Oscars could be complete without mentioning the film that should be up there - Zodiac. More than one commentator has noted its absence, including Cinemaslave: 'David Fincher’s noir-tinged expose of the California serial killer is a perfect blend of visual style and narrative efficiency. Although the running time (nearly three hours) may tax a viewer’s bladder, the story is always gripping. A major snub by the Academy; suspense films haven’t been this good since Hitchcock’s prime. And let’s please stop bashing Jake Gyllenhaal, who does fine work as the obsessed cartoonist turned investigator. Thanks.'
WDW Road Trip
First thing this morning, I went up to the Kodak Theater to have a look for myself. Although it was before 10am and raining and not warm, the crowds were already building and filling the little space available for those who hadn't won a seat in the red carpet lottery. The main spectacle at that time was a big effort to wring the carpet free of rain.
Having left the Big Gold Statue, I walked across Hollywood and took in a couple of places from Jakeland - the fabulous Whole Foods Market (the guy Jake was speaking to in these pictures was still there) and Madeo's Restaurant. I tried to have lunch in another of Jake's favourites - Hugo's - but as soon as I walked in the door they lost all power.

I've been very grateful to everyone helping me out with links while I haven't had so much time to search them out myself. Thanks to Paul for the link to a notice about the wrap party for Brothers: 'All wrapped: The big-name flick Brothers ended its filming with a party at the College of Santa Fe, where much of the movie was shot at the college's Garson Studios. Jake Gyllenhaal, one of the movie's three stars, stopped by the event. Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman, however, were no-shows.'

Hi everyone - watching the live streaming from the red carpet (feels weird watching this sort of thing on TV for a change) and Ann Hathaway just turned up looking a stunner in red.
So nothing for it but to enjoy what else is on offer and cheer on some favourites - for me, Cate Blanchett and Daniel Day Lewis - and hope for some decent frocks.

I love and so look forward to Oscar Night, even tho I haven't quite forgotten that that mistake in judgment of not voting Brokeback Best Picture for 2005.

I've got to say, unless there's someone I particularly want to see, I don't usually bother to watch awards shows, especially ones that don't have the taste, intelligence or guts to reward a films that really deserves it. So I'm going to give the Oscars a miss and watch the deleted scenes from Rendition before I go to bed. Hope you all have fun though!

I absolutely love the Oscars (so long as I have enough booze) but I've not forgotten the 2005 Brokeback debacle myself. It makes for easier watching when I'm not so emotionally invested in a movie that's for sure.

I was surprised at the Tilda Swinton win. I was expecting Cate or Ruby Dee. Tilda was very good in MC and is an excellent actress, but I wanted either Cate or Ruby. I loved Javier winning and Marion was a tour de force in LVER. Her speech was very touching. Oh, song award! I really hope Once wins! Loved their performance.

Heath was at the end of the In Memoriam section, introduced by Hilary Swank. It was quick, a few seconds of Ennis leaning against the trailer at the beginning of Brokeback. A real reminder that what's happened just isn't right.

Helen Mirren presenting best actor - I have to own up to being very irritated by Helen Mirren (one of my least favourite British actresses), although I am embarrassed by yelling at her to get out of the way at the Baftas when she was standing in front of Jake... :D

LOL WDW. How could Helen block such beauty. ;) Actually I think she is wonderful and was brilliant in The Queen. No surprise that DDL won. He deserves it all imo. There were some brilliant performances this year but he topped it all.

Hey Get Real - and it's over! I know, Mr WDW always jokes with me about how harsh I am with Helen Mirren. I think it's because at one stage she seemed to be everywhere on UK TV. She was good in The Queen though and I enjoyed that - I'm being gracious ;) She did block incredible beauty and Jake gave her a kiss too!
Incidentally, Nicole looked much lovelier last night - her hair was wavy and she wore it up in a loose bun at the back, tied with a clip, so curls were spilling out - I prefer it like that to straightened.
Which movie did you want to win, WDW? I would have been very happy with NCFOM or TWBB. I also really enjoyed Atonement and Juno was very good but not as BP.
LOL at your (and your hubby's) reaction to HM. I know from BBCA that she was on a few British shows. Guess that did it for you, lol.

It's a tricky one, Get Real, as I find it hard to get past Zodiac as best film but I think NCFOM was my least favourite of all the films (not that I've seen them all so I am being slightly unreasonable!). Yep, Helen Mirren overdose! She was even featured on my favourite TV show Top Gear last season driving round a racetrack wearing a helmet - I sat there shaking my head :D

Good to be here - unexpected cancellation of an RL job left me with some time to chill. Pity I don't have my dish installed yet or I'd have been watching the Oscars too. I would no doubt have installed it on a war footing had our Jake been in the picture.
Apart from Robert's cinematography, his still photography has changed lives in unexpected places! His first Oscar win isn't it? Your comments on Helen Mirren remind me of how Jake was made to practise saying her name before Bafta 2007!

Hi get real! We rarely get to meet online and it's nice to be actually talking to people here rather than to logon and read after the rest are all tucked in bed. Sadly none of the films have been screened in Kolkata but I'm told some are just released or about to be released in Mumbai. I'm hoping an enterprising street vendor will soon have a few tolerably good pirates and I can see some of them at least.

Incognita, most of these films had only just been released in the UK as well - it makes it hard to feel any affiliation with them. There Will Be Blood was only released a week or two ago and it wasn't in any cinemas near me. NCFOM never made the theatres near me either. Atonement, on the other hand, was so long ago I'd forgotten it!

WDW, you must see TWBB and NCFOM when they do come out in your area. I did enjoy MC a lot when i first saw it at TIFF. The director was there and discussed it afterwards. Pretty cool.

Oh Get Real, that's so cool that you saw Michael Clayton at TIFF - I just remember coming out of the Rendition premiere onto the red carpet of the MC premiere - what a strange experience, but I wasn't able to see the film then. Amazing to hear the director discuss it.
I will see TWBB as everything I've seen looks incredible and I've followed DDL's career for many years, at least 20 years - I think NCFOM isn't for me though.

Thanks for that Incognita :) I think the Oscars may be shown on satellite channels in the UK but I don't have any of them. I do hope you get to see Michael Clayton soon. It's amazing how long it can take for some films to travel the world, just look at Rendition - that's been on release for over four months now, and it's available on DVD in the US.

The good news is that my Rendition DVD(all praise and thanks to dear Beckela) has been sent already and I'm just waiting for the postman. It usually comes in less than a week but the last parcel(Zodiac with the extras) took a month. And of course there is no sign of Rendition in the theatres.

It's fantastic that you were there in Hollywood, taking photos of the Oscar site and having so much fun. My son wishes I had never left...:)
The Oscars seemed to be so much more fun this year. The audience just seemed more relaxed. It helped that Jon Stewart's jokes were really funny, and I think there was relief, that the show was able to go on.
We just finished watching the post Oscar commentary, The critics and other reporters, discussed how good the jokes were tonight, with just 10 days to prepare them, as opposed to the usual 7 month preparation. I agree.
My Oscar wish came true this year, unlike the year BBM was cheated: NCFPM won.
I am a Coen brothers freak.;)
I have seen nearly all their films, own a few of them and am more than ready to see their next film, Burn After Reading, which was in our NY papers all the time, when they were filming around town.
What an Oscars! Go Jake's Godfather. This should bring him even more work, if that's possible.
I thought Marion Cotillard might win since the middle of January, because her name, and comments about her awesome performance, showed up in the papers more and more; she won a Bafta and her performance blew me away.
Tilda Swinton was an upset, but fine by me, because her performance was complex and powerful.
She's a fantastic actor, her sense of humor is a pleasant surprise, and I am beginning to love more and more her original fashion sense.
I could listen to DDL talk all night long. He is such a sweet humble man.
I think that's why I have a soft spot for actors; most are just walking emotions. He teared up during certain parts of the ceremony, as did other actors in the audience and in turn I teared up.
He was told at the backstage press conference that a particular phrase from TWBB had entered the popular lexicon. He was pleased.
I won't mention the phrase, because I don't want to spoil this wonderful film for anyone.
Diablo Cody is beautiful, talented, grateful and humble. What a spectacular rise for a former stripper/dancer. What a script.
Javier's thanks to him mom made me weepy and his kiss was marvelous
I'm sure Jennifer Garner, couldn't get to the ladies room fast enough, and scrub her neck, after having been kissed there and groped everywhere by Garey Busey. I felt so sorry for her. I heard her call out Ben's name softly as if in conversation.
I expect This man will have to return to Rehab soon; he looked drunk.
And though Jennifer and Ben are a couple who do the red carpets as singles, I know Jennifer was longing for Ben at that moment. She may even start attending with Ben from now on. An unexpected attack can be very frightening to to women especially when it happens in a safe place.
Jennifer's face showed total disgust and revulsion, as she struggled to extricate herself from his slimy arms and hands.

Don't have Sky, so I didn't watch the Oscar. I've only watched "No Country for old Men" and "Michael Clayton", out of these two, I think they picked the right choice.
Btw, Josh Brolin's character in OCFOM was initially offered to Heath, but he turned it down, citing wanted to take some time off. When I watched that film, i couldn't help imagine Heath playing that character.

WDW, no I wasn't lucky enough to get tickets to the big Michael Clayton gala premiere. We got tickets to the Rendition one and had the amazing experience, like you, of seeing Jake, Reese, Peter, etc, etc. after that we just went to dinner. No I got last minute tickets to a second screening of MC at Ryerson U. and the cast wasn't there, only the director Tony Gilroy. But the movie got a great reception and TG was a very interesting speaker.
Sass, I love Javier's thank you to his mother who looked so emotional in the audience. Wish I knew more Spanish to understand exactly what he said. Adore Marion and DDL is lovely. Get Real, I watched Javier Bardem's speech on YouTube, roughly translated he said "This is for you {his mum}, for your grandparents and your parents, Rafael and Matilde. This is for the Spanish comedians who, like you, have brought diginty and pride to our profession. This is for Spain and for all of you".
I think JB's family are connected to showbiz in Spain. The surname Bardem definitely sounds familiar.

"I'm the perfect servant. I have no life." Even when I disagree with the Academy about its awarding the wrong people, I still remember fantastic work in *other* movies that the winner has done.
I watched the Oscars for an hour and a half, then decided that enough was enough. I think John (Jon?) Stewart tries too hard to be funny. George Clooney and even Regis Philbin are much more natural with their jokes.
I loved it that I *finally* got it right with seeing the bulk of the films that were nominated for honors. The only one I missed was "La Vie en Roses," which I avoided because all through high school I had to listen to a recording of Piaf singing "La vie en roses" in language lab all day. ;-)

I don't mean to be a downer, but I opened my Live Journal Saturday morning to a Jake negative post which turned into a bashing post after a few comments, One month and one day from the day our Heath left us. What a shock.
I of course waded in ...stupid me...and now after enjoying the most relaxed fun Oscars in a long time--for me--I want to thank you for being here, because I don't know where I've been these last few months, but my journal is no longer my refuge...maybe later but not now.
I have to make a lot of journal filters for my sanity, and to ensure my on-line tranquility.
I want always strive to be poor in spirit, as was mentioned in a post this morning. I don't know about inheriting the kingdom of Heaven, agnostics have to wonder;), but I never want to place myself in a position to judge anyone in my daily life, who has not harmed me, or the environment, or another person.

I happen to agree with TL that I don't think Jake looks that sad in the pic. Not the best pic of him but I think he looks better than David, who I do like. JMHO..
I know I project alot of my own feelings onto Jake - the Vanity Fair photo on my fridge is similar to the picture of Jesus whose eyes follow you around the room, full a love. sometimes humor, somtimes sadness, sometimes "whatever".
But bottom line: I have no idea what Jake is feeling. I only know I just wanna kiss him!

Hey WDW, hope you're having a good time wherever in LA you are at the mo.
I'm not able to concentrate well enough tonight to absorb all of the post and read all the comments as I normally would - too busy getting scared about going into hospital tomorrow,the hysterectomy being on Wednesday,God help me.
I did,however, take a look at Sass's link to the photo of Jake at the Charity bash. I sort of agree,TL,he doesn't look the saddest I've ever seen him,but the half smile he's attempting does look forced and it certainly doesn't reach his eyes which look unusually puffy. He seems to be just going through the motions for the benefit of the photograper,but whether due to boredom,tiredness,sadness or one too many bitter lemons is anybody's guess.
Whatever the reason I want to send (((Jake))) a hug anyway,just because...
If I don't manage to get back on here in the morning,I hope that life will be kind and I'll be back home and WDW'ing again in the shortest possible time. Until then,love and hugs to everypeeps!

It never crossed my mind that you could let us know the results as you were watching, and so I spent a lot of time looking for some info about Javier Bardem, and on the Oscars website they took ages to update the info. I should have guessed that you’d do it!
I can imagine you yelling to Helen Mirren, and if she was between you and Jake i think even she would forgive you.
Congrats to the British for your Oscars! I know nothing about Daniel Day Lewis, but I heard his speech and I liked him instantly, he seems such a gentleman... and I like his voice too.
To Get Real and Twistedlogic, about Javier Bardem's speech (just in case you are interested): Javier’s family is a very well known and respected family in the showbiz in Spain. His sister and one of his brothers are actors, the other brother is a film director; his cousin is also a film director; her mum Pilar Bardem is a prestigious actress both in theater and films; his uncle Juan Antonio Bardem was a prestigious film director, recognised in Spain and internationally - his film "The Vengance" (1959) was nominated for an oscar for the best foreign language film, the first nomination from the Academy for a Spanish film or person- and, finally, his grandparents were “comicos”, actresses and actors who travelled around Spain with a small company, bringing the theater to small cities and people who couldn't access the culture in any other way, in a poor and restrained country ruled by the dictator Franco. His family is also known for their left wing political ideas.

69moons, wow thank you for all the info about Javier's family. What a fascinating and remarkable family he comes from. I was very proud of him too. I fell in love with him in "Before Night Falls" and have watched his movies ever since.

I enjoyed last night's Oscars more than I have in quite some time. Daniel Day-Lewis is just so elegant. I love Hellen Mirren, there's nothing stuffy about her, and Javier Bardem makes my heart beat a little faster. And Paul Thomas Anderson, and the Coens' humor, and Jon Stewart was very funny. I loved NCFOM, but my fave movie of the year was TWBB. I was happy that the beautiful cinematograpy in it by Robert Elswit was recognized.

Hey everyone, I'm back! have you missed me, eh? eh? I am so sunburnt, I am the colour of a pacific lobster.
A full day, with lots of pics so expect a really dull post ;D I also wanted to find out more about Doug Liman so I went to see Jumper and I enjoyed it - I had no idea Jamie Bell was in it. Camera was shaking all over the place but lots of action, which gives me hope for Action Jake in Space.

Sass - it can be hard work keeping places a haven. Just remember that loads of us all love Jake and want nothing more than to celebrate him - while ogling at him.
I don't think Jake looks sad in the picture, I think he looks tired. It was pretty late when the party got going.

I've friended writers of fan fiction and writers from every area of fiction. I friend aspiring writers who enter writing contests like the NaNOwrimo and other contests, members who are great with photoshop, photography, graphics, videos, video making, icon making, screen caps or whatever.
I opened my journal and a person I had friended, who is a writer of fan fiction, posted a very negative Jake post...which I didn't mind really...it's her right to express her opinion, but then other brokies jumped on board and blasted Jake's career choices, his life style, his girlfriend and his potential as a film star.
I saw Red.

And yes Paul:) I am definitely going to create some filters. Filters in LJ's are used to segregate friends with different interests, that way members won't bore their old friends with chatter about their new interests.
Yep, I will have to filter all the brokie friends on my list who are now anti-Jake, so that I will not have to see any of their posts, until I feel like removing them from my friend list.
