As preparations are underway in Perth for Heath's funeral, possibly on Saturday, and rumours (completely unsubstantiated) that Jake may be arriving in Australia tomorrow, I thought I'd repost this video that, a few days ago, a reader mentioned that they would like to see again.
One account suggests that a wake will be held at one of Heath's favourite haunts, at a restaurant on Cottesloe Beach. Heath's father, Kim, said in another beautiful statement yesterday: 'that the family was humbled to be "among millions of people worldwide who may have suffered the tragic loss of a child. Few can understand the hollow, wrenching, and enduring agony parents silently suffer when a child predeceases them."
By the way, it's worth reading the erratum at the end of this same article concerning the spelling of a certain actor's name.
Nailed
I saw this notice yesterday and your guess is as good as mine about how reliable this is - and if the possibility that Nailed has a starting date makes it any more certain that Jake will be in it. As far as I am aware, the script of Giant Leap (the Moon Project) is ready to go, and Giant Leap is the only new project, apart from Brothers, that we have actually heard Jake talk about. So, the mystery continues. But we'll know soon enough if this date is true.
'David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings) has signed on to write the screenplay adaptation of Matthew Quick's soon-to-be-published comic novel The Silver Linings Playbook for the Weinstein Company. Playbook centers on a man who, after a mental collapse, is released from a facility only to find that his wife has remarried and moved on. Sydney Pollack and Anthony Minghella are on board to produce through their Mirage Productions. Currently, Russell is in preproduction on Nailed, a political satire starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel, which he cowrote and will direct. It is expected to start shooting on April 15.'

I guess we will soon find out if Jake will be in Perth... No need to speculate?
I don't have a problem with "Nailed", except for the fact that Jessica Biel keeps showing up in movies that make my worst movies of the year list :P. I like David O' Russell's "Spanking the Monkey", not so keen on the others though.
Hi Winterbird. I feel similarly to you about Nailed - Jessica is a bit of a turn off! But I have no problem with seeing Jake as a bit of a rogue. And you're right, we'll know soon enough about Perth. I am finding these days difficult - not helped by being so tired.
I don't know if I've seen any of Russell's films.
How shoddy of The Guardian. I'd expect better from them.
I've been to Cottisloe. I seem to remember beer in a bar overlooking the sea.... That whole area is gorgeous and a beautiful resting place for our precious Heath.
Poor Jake. Everyone is waiting for him. Not to say I don’t want to know if he goes. I wouldn't blame him at all if he didn't show. I don't know if I would.
(((Jake)))
I cannot stand Jessica Biel. I think I can suffer through it for Jakey. You know, if you twist my arm. ;)
I can't believe The Guardian has misspelled Jake's surname TWICE!!!
Jessica Biel? Not a fan of hers AT ALL! But still the movie and her performance could turn out to be good. Let's wait and see if the film rumor is true or not!
I love the press conference and the pictures of our boys, you can see how fond they were of each other.
It's sad that one of my favourite actors died so young :(...
Knew I should have waited until your new post to post this, below, WDW. Hope its oky to repost.
I hope there is one hell of a good wake, we reform protestants dont do this, its father son and in the hole you go.
I hope Jake is there and cant help but wonder how he gets along with the Aussie uncles and all those - I think the family has been absoluately grand and gracious - bless their hearts!
The Karrakatta cemetary where Heath will be buried is said to be very beautiful, with kookaburras singing, gardens, park and cafe, even. It is in Karrakatta, a suburb of Perth. Here is something about the dervication of the name.
"KARRAKATTA
The termination katta is well known, and is given as the Aboriginal word for a hill, or the top of any height, in the early Aboriginal vocabularies. The karra is more difficult as it may be derived from - Karri - a crab, Karak - the red-tailed black cockatoo, Kara - a spider, Karh-rh - an orchid with an edible root. The meaning of the combined word could therefore be the hill, or top of the hill, where the orchid with the edible root is found, or the hill frequented by the red-tailed black cockatoo, or the hill where spiders are found and so on. It is not definitely known which is the exact area called by the Aborigines "Karrakatta"
All those pre-Oscar-snub BBM promotion tour they did bring back such fond memories... happier times indeed.
I'd say "Spanking the Monkey" totally rocks! I wouldn't be surprised if Jake agreed to the Nailed because of it. (although he's only 14/15 years old when it's released, it's quite a controversial film - about incest - a dark comedy no less - so maybe Naomi didn't let him watch it??? lol)... all recent films O Russell made are not bad (Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings, I love Huckabees), but definitely not particularly brilliant.
but then... i wouldn't say no to any film with Jake in it... hell, we survived Gwyneth, didn't we? maybe Jessica is not a total disaster.
Hey Ruby - yep, the Grauniad does it again - Shame on them.
Cottisloe sounds beautiful. Thanks for telling us about it.
Bird Girl - Absolutely - I feel for Jake so much because it's as if nothing he does is right. And yet it's important he does what's right for him, whether that's going or not. Neither option is easy.
Yep, I'll suffer any film with Jake in it but at least on DVD we could fast forward Jessica or press the mute button ;)
I know, Anon, to misspell Gyllenhaal once is not quite forgiveable but I know I did it once when under the influence - but to go from one misspelling to another and then make a point of tellimg us about it - I see another erratum on the horizon...
Hi Anon 21:08 - We must definitely wait and see about Nailed but I just can't help getting sucked in by the rumours - as the whole thing just sounds so intriguing. Half of me wants it to be true (because I like the sound of Jake playing a naughty politican) but the other half of me want him to run a mile from a film with Jessica. I must get over that!
I love the video too, one of my favourites without doubt. And it is so sad to lose someone we all admired so much.
Hey y'all, and thanks for the TFF video - Jake and Heath so professional, and intelligent.
what a pleasure!
Pia - thanks so much for reposting this. I caught your last comment just as I finished posting this one and then I got distracted with a Gin and Tonic (you can blame Mr WDW for that - he's trying to cheer me up :D)
I love all this - I want to read it so thanks. What a place. I love the background to the names. I also like a big wake. Tears and laughter. Karrakatta sounds just sounds gorgeous, and I like the sound of the animals and the flowers.
Winterbird - you have totally intrigued me about Spanking the Monkey (and loving the idea of Naomi not allowing Jake to watch it!). I have seen Three Kings and enjoyed that, I didn't know that was Sheridan. I am so ignorant and you are all so knowledgeable - thanks :D
But as you say we survived Gwyneth (I think - it was touch and go) - we can survive Jessica.
All of you are so great - I began this evening tired to the core and you've put more wind in my wings (as it were)
Pia - a real pleasure :D
That video of Jake and Heath. Wonderful times and memories. Sigh...
Yes, poor Jake damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I agree WDW that he has to do what is right for him. Whether he goes to Australia or not. People Mag. which is on stands tomorrow does say that Jake was at the LA memorial. Who knows but he and Heath's family and loved ones should be left alone.
Interesting about "Nailed". Not sure about Jessica or Russell but the story sounds very different and very interesting for Jake to sink his teeth into.
Btw, I emailed the Guardian over their ridiculous spelling error. I will keep checking in the next day or so to see if it is fixed. Those kinds of things totally bug me. Especially from a "reputable" newspaper.
Hi Get Real - wonderful memories indeed. I was thinking today that this weekend is the 2nd anniversary of Jake's win at the BAFTAs and the first anniversary of seeing Jake there - and how different the weekend will be this year - burying Heath. Not right.
I think Jake may have been at the first LA memorial but there's no way to prove these things and whatever it doesn't matter.
Good for you for emailing the Guardian - I mean, fancy getting it wrong twice! Let us know if you hear back from them. I would like to see it corrected.
'the first anniversary of seeing Jake there - and how different the weekend will be this year - burying Heath. Not right.'
Oh boy. I didn't think of that. You'll set me off again. :(
Thanks for the info on Karrakatta, Pia. I was just browsing through my pics of the area - I have one of a kookaburra in Kings Park, which is not far away from there I think. I'd forgotten how beautifully blue the sea is along that coast.
I have no knowledge of Jessica Beil, but I like the sound of rogue-Jake! :D
Aww, thanks for that video WDW:) I guess all we can do now is remember the good times and be thankful for them *sigh*
I don't know who Jessica Biel is, sounds like ignorance is bliss in this case. But the film sounds like a good idea in principle, and Jake has never let us down before. Speaking of which, I hope he realises that for every person giving him a hard time about recent events, there's a lot more of us who support him and only wish for him to get through this in whichever way he can. (((Jake)))
Sorry Ruby - the anniversary has been on my mind and I was so ready to celebrate it. How to celebrate this weekend. But maybe it will mean some contemplation about what we have and what we've lost.
I would love to see your pictues so I hope you bring them with you next time.
Rogue-Jake sounds Great to me!
Pia, that sounds like a beautiful resting place for our Heath. I'm sure Jake will have no problem at all with all of the Aussie uncles and aunts. I'll bet he'll charm everyone. I've tried very hard not to say anything, cuz it's none of my business really, but I can't help but be happy about Jake's going. Sorry! It will give our boy a beautiful sendoff, and support for Heath's family, Michelle and Matilda, and himself as well. :)
Hi Bertie - it is none of our business and Jake's choice is his own and it would be the right decision whatever. I just felt the need on an emotional night to think about and feel for Jake, if you know what I mean. Heath will have an amazing sendoff, I'm sure, with so much love in a beautiful place.
Yes, it is his decision, and entirely his business. I forgot to mention that, my apologies! :)
Forgive me, Bertie, don't apologise - nothing to apologise for! I was agreeing with you, just can't express myself :D Sorry, I've been on several G&Ts so I have no powers over the English language - not quite as bad as the Guardian though - talking of which, I emailed them too :D
I will share a very odd dream I had last night, and then make my mussel spagetti supper.
I dreamed there were two drums, and I wanted MY drum, and the "headmistress" took my drum into her "office" so it would not be stolen, since it was valuable. The Other Drum, she told me, was made by young women to honor the indigenous people called Karakuttas or something. I said, well my drum was made (as it is) by a man from Amherst Massachusetts from the skin of a deer that he shot himself. (which it is)
A drum is like a heartbeat and I took this dream to mean that I can connect with the heartbeat not only of Heath and his family and friends in this time but also with the indigenous people of Australia in whose land he will be buried.
Okay. I believe this stuff. Apologies to those who think me wierd.
E! news reported that Jake was at the memorial at the weekend, also someone posted on their LJ that they saw him and Reese there. It's funny how some "fans" think he should act.
I am glad he is avoiding the paps.
Hello WDW. I am also suspicious about the notice for "Nailed". IMDB has certainly not yet listed this movie under Jake's past and current/future projects (the DreamWorks project is listed, as you know.) So it's either this will all go very fast or it is still under negotiation, but people involved want to start the buzz going...
TL! I missed you, you snuck in :D My powers of observation (and expression) are nil this evening. You know, if I had to pick Jessica Biel out of a lineup I'd never manage it, but then I'm notorious for getting all actresses muddled up.
And yes, I want him to realise that too. I think the vast majority of people/fans want Jake to do whatever he has to do to mend.
No problem, WDW, I could use a G&T myself (at least one)! And Pia, that was another very beautiful post. I believe that stuff too, and it's nice to think of, the connection between people. :)
No doubt about it, Pia, that's an odd dream :) But I have heard that about drums and heartbeats before. You put your hand on the drum and you can fel the beat echo in your heart.
Hey anon, I find so many of these sightings dubious - I find the accounts of Jake being at the private first service more believable than at the second but whatever - it doesn't matter. I agree that Jake should do whatever he needs.
Hi Tpe - I am very sceptical about this too - but there is something irresistible about it. I do agree that someone wants to draw attention to this project when all the information we have suggests The Moon Project is the next project for Jake. I do find this fascinating though, this leaking of information which may be no information at all.
That's good - Bertie - thanks * I believe that too. I've also definitely had more than one G&T! Mr WDW is looking at me with a pained, long-suffering expression...
Can we get a wake going for Saturday?
We need to spend Saturday together that's for sure - wake/celebration of Heath's life... thinking of Jake...
I'll certainly try to be here on Saturday so that we can reflect, honour and mourn Heath together, send lots of love and support to Jake and keep each other going by remembering the good times. Watching my tape of the Baftas two years ago, when Jake won and Heath was just so damned proud of him has always been a tonic until now.
I haven't been able to watch much of our boys at all since that dark day, although it was lovely to see this TIFF video tonight and the great photos you have chosen once again,(((WDW))) - in so many photos/interviews during the publicity for "Brokeback" the real connection, deep affection and sense of fun sparkling and crackling between Jake and Heath was a joy to behold. We MUST hang on to memories like that...and I hope clinging to memories will help Jake in the end too, even if he's hurting too badly right now.
I would think Jake would want to be at Heath's funeral. Whether he can actually face the ordeal is another matter. Sometimes it's just too much. I'm such an emotional person I have cried at the funerals of virtual strangers and been distraught at ones that have struck closer to home - I know I shouldn't be ashamed but I'm sorry to say that I've chickened out of some that I truly couldn't face and have honoured the departed in my own way in private. For that reason I would be the last person to condemn Jake if he was just too upset to attend - not that anyone should condemn him, whether he is at Heath's funeral or not - as others have said,it is totally his choice.
I remember my brother being particularly cut up when a friend he had worked with for nearly 30 years, since they were both teenagers, passed away suddenly.
Being similarly emotional to me (we're that kind of family) - but even more embarrassed about it because a man isn't meant to cry (total rubbish, believed by too many,he couldn't face going to the funeral and break down in front of his workmates who were not so affected by Bob's death. so instead, at the time the funeral was taking place,he turned the lights off in the workshop and sat alone and quiet in the semi-darkness thinking about his lost friend (and doubtless bawling his eyes out)as his way of paying his respects. I always thought that was such a sweet thing to do and perfectly understandable for someone so upset for a lost friend.
All I know is that I'm thinking of Jake so much at the moment, and praying for some respite and comfort for him in such difficult, miserable times. Take care,(((Jake))),li'l darlin' and do whatever it takes to get you through.
Hugs and love to you all. xxxxxxx
Nadine, that's such a wonderful post - thanks so much. Grief is different for us all (and I can't believe sometimes that all of us are having to deal with such a dreadful event) and so it's the same for Jake. I'm no good with formal mourning myself, preferring to keep things private and in a special place. We can make these choices in privacy. Jake can't. So yes, I definitely agree that Jake may want to be there on Saturday but he might not feel up to it.
We need to think of Jake right now and support whatever choice he makes that will let him get through this. I do hope Jake can know somehow that the vast majority of fans just want him to do whatever he needs to do and with as much privacy as it takes.
Thanks, Nadine xx
Thanks to everyone for your company tonight *)
Hey, deae Nadine! I, frankly, would love to think of Jake grieving privately, like your brother. I figure that as a public figure, he doesnt have that option. I suspect, but what do I know, that he's having convos with family, presss agent, friends, beloveds, etcetc. And of course he has now taken on the mantle of "solo cowboy", this was inevitable, I guess. my heart goesw out to him.
and yet he has taken on all that has come his way with compassion, heart and - I like your word, WDW -cunning.
o gosh!
Thank you very much WDW! That's exactly the video I was looking for! :)
Been having a pretty bad day today, but you made me feel loads better. Thank you very much!
"Yep, I'll suffer any film with Jake in it but at least on DVD we could fast forward Jessica or press the mute button ;)"
Soooo true.
It's good to hear Mr. WDW is taking care of our girl.
This report says Jake has arrived in Perth.
http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,23173473-948,00.html
Hi WDW,
I hope you're having a good sleep since it's 2300 here and 0400 in the UK.
I loved seeing the BBM TIFF press conference tape again. TY:)
I may sound like Mrs. Clinton--remember her story of the widespread right wing conspiracy against Bill-- but I think there is a not so widespread conspiracy afoot, to discredit or dishonor Jake by any means possible, perpetuated by some very pissed off fans because he is not behaving the way the want him to. Thank goodness it's not working.
If Jake is making this movie with David O. Russell, I hope he is not still the mean nasty person, I've seen and heard on youtube.
He and George Clooney nearly came to blows, because Of the way he treated an extra on set, when he was directing the Three Kings.
I can't imagine Jake working with a man so reviled in HOllywood, though he has a fair reputation as a director. And Jessica Biel, I only think of her in relation to Justin Timberlake.
I went to see "The Illusionist" because of Edward Norton and can't remember one scene she was in.
I gave that movie a 3 on a scale of 0-10...and forget about Biel.
Jake doesn't have to act with starlets. I don't think it will happen. fingers xxxed.:)
Since "Farragut North" isn't happening for Jake, maybe we won't have to see Ms Biel with Jake in Nailed, and can wait and enjoy Jake in the space movie.
I wish he would take some time off and be kind to himself for a while.
No Jake for "Farragut North"
On another blog some time ago this link was discussed:

"Visit and Have Lunch with Jake Gyllenhaal in Connecticut on the Set of an Upcoming Film in March or April 2008"
People were wondering what "upcoming film" Jake is working on in Connecticut...
Some different blogs/sides have confirmed that Jake has landed in Perth, I don´t know how reliable the reports are.
Sorry, here is the correct link

Winnipeg Sun has a list of famous quotes from movies.
Jake's quote about quitting comes as number three on that list, or four if you count the one in the beginning of the article. Do note who the actors are above him, Marlon Brando and Humphery Bogart!
This is the link:
http://winnipegsun.com/Entertainment/Movies/2008/02/08/4834350-sun.html
Here is to you, Jake!
Herman
Morning everyone - beautiful sunny day here. Thanks to all of you for looking after me last night :) Some days it really hits.
Thank you for all the links. I've been looking around myself and it does sound like Jake's in Perth.
It also sounds that Jake may very well be doing Nailed bcause guess where it's filming - yep, Connecticut. Thanks for that link, anon, I'd forgotten the location of that dinner. Makes me wonder where the Moon movie fits in with all this because I thought that was due to start filming in February/March. I suppose we'll know soon enough.
In the meantime my thoughts and love are very definitely on the other side of the world.
WDW, you wrote this:
"Good for you for emailing the Guardian - I mean, fancy getting it wrong twice! Let us know if you hear back from them. I would like to see it corrected.
07 February 2008 21:50"
Thank you all for trying to correct. But believe me, it is not the first time. It started at the very beginning of the name!
When the Swedish Queen Christina (cf. Greta Garbo)signed the charter giving the lieutenant Nils Gunnarsson Hahl (after the farm Hahlegarden) his new name, the scribe first had written the name as "Gyllenhahl" and then as "Gyllenhaal". And the grandfather of the first American Gyllenhaal, Leonard he wrote "Gyllenhal". The latter I believe he did because he had a great international network in his "hobby", collecting and naming ALL Swedish beetles, and supposedly he didn't want any misspelling.
The tricky thing is that "Hahl" very likely is hinting at the biggest stoneage burial monument in Scandinavia, a stone cist, consisting of stone slabs, all weighing more than a ton, situated less than a mile from his farm.
A "stone slab" is in Swedish called a "haell" or a "hall" a word which in West Swedish has a connection to the word "hard". The lettercombination "rl" is even today pronounced as "l", as in "Karl" which in the West is pronounced "Kaal" with a long wouvel sound like an "o" as in "for"!
So you could translate "Gyllenhaal" as "Golden Hard" which is an anomaly, as gold is a very bendable metal.
If this has confused you, I can tell you, you are not alone.
All in all "Gyllenhall" is not so far from the truth. But has never been used by the family.
Please carry on correcting! I did it to yesterday.
Herman
Morning
Good Friday to everyone.
So it really sounds as if Jake is in Perth. (((Jake, Michelle, Matilda and Heath's family)))
I was questioning "FN" when Clooney and DiCaprio became involved. Would have loved to see Jake onstage and Mike Nichols directing. But hopefully there are other plays he may do in the future. If he is doing "Nailed" in April in CT then I am sure we will hear more about it soon. Maggie is also just signed onto a movie that will start filming in CT in April. Maybe we will see pics of them in NYC during that time!
Thanks for all the name info, Herman. It is fascinating. I checked the Guardian and they haven't fixed it yet. Grrr. Good on you WDW for emailing them too. Hope it will make a difference and they do their jobs and spell Jake's name right!
I will be around especially today and tomorrow. We need to be there for each other at this time.
(((Hugs all)))
Coming back to the spelling of Gyllenhaal, the big problem you see at the beginning of the article; it is a news telegram from the newsagency "Associated Press". This means that the faulty spelling has gone around the globe, virtually! I faxed the AP office in Stockholm last night but they have not responded yet :-(
Herman
The AP office in Stockholm reports that they have corrected the spelling to "Gyllenhaal", but that The Guardian picked the earlier wire and published it. And that remains on the net as it is, unfortunately.
Unless someone in UK phoned the paper net version webmaster I do not think it will be corrected.
Herman
Thanks Herman. I had also emailed the AP as well as The Guardian. But I do agree that it is up to the Guardian to fix their second spelling error. Since I am not in the UK it would be an expensive phone call but I will keep emailing. I hope it eventually makes a difference. :/
Good job Get Real and Herman! I emailed AP and The Guardian but haven't heard from either - it sounds to me like they're getting the point :D
Variety has an article about Oscar prediciton for "next year" and Sheridan's "Brothers", with Jake and Tobey is on it.
Let's hope it gets a good release time slot this time :)
G'day, y'all.
Its half past twelve a.m. on a Sat. morning in Perth, who's sleeping and who's not sleeping, I wonder. cop cars blocking off the house where friends have gathered, staying under the radar fairly well, apparntly. Press says give us something, and we'll leave you alone.
Gonmna be in the nineties around noontime Down Under.
Sometimes I didnt get Heath's "down under" jokes. Aussie humor, also, is diff'rent, I know from friends -
Glad you're around Get Real. Glad you're feeling better WDW. And hey (everypeeps) else.
WDW has sunny skies, and PIA down under has temps in the 90s, but here in Boston we have gray overcast skies, with occasional big fat snowflakes. :-(
So, to try to dispel the gloom, here's a joke:
When Jake and Reese do a remake of "Bringing up Baby," what will the new title for the film be?
(Let's see if anyone can guess the answer ;-) )
Okay I got a response from the Guardian!
The story is not ours. It is on a breaking news feed from the agency AP and is no longer on our site. You might still be able to see it from your link but it is no longer accessible from the Guardian's website. It's part of a service we provide but most of the wire stories stay on that part of the site for only around an hour or so.
Thanks for pointing it out though.
Sorry, I know it may seem over the top to be bothered by a misspelling of Jake's name but those things should be correct coming from AP and/or The Guardian.
G'day Pia and WDW and everyone.
I have already started toasting Heath (well it's Sat there and after 5pm here, so I figure it's ok). I have no Australian wines in the house though, but I guess a Californian Shiraz will be an adequate substitute.
Cheers mate!
Thanks for letting us know the Guardian's response Get Real. I still think it's shoddy journalism, whoever is is responsible.
I read that comment from the Aussie press Pia. 'We hate doing this but it's our job, blah blah blah'. :(
G'day friends! Yep, as Ruby says, it's now Saturday as far as I'm concerned and a day to toast Heath and celebrate his life. I've done a post early today so that I can spend more time with you all as doing the posts takes up a fair old chunk of my evening.
I have been drinking some Oz beer, which, I'm sorry to any Aussies out there, is just yuck and so moving back to familiar wine territory - but this time an Australian Shiraz - east coast unfortunately.
Get Real - Thanks for letting us know what they said! I got no answer - maybe I was the last in a long line of enraged Gyllenhaalics and they got fed up!
Hi Paul :)
And Pia and Ruby - I find that article fascinating I really do (it's linked to in the new post) because it just shows the difference between Heath's worlds - and also it shows that the Ledger family, with amazing diginity, have kept their grief private, sheltered Heath's friends, while releasing beautiful statements which really say it all.
Congratulations and thank you, "get real" It is probably also in the U.K.very seldom you get any individual answers from newspapers when you are complaining.
Carry On The Good Work!
Herman
