Jake and Reese on set - octopus and snails - superhero fashion

More pictures have emerged from Monday 5 May of Jake Gyllenhaal and guest Reese on the set of Nailed. It's looking beautifully sunny but has no-one ever warned Jake of the risks of sitting on grass in the hot sunshine, without the benefit of a chequered blanket, a Fortnum and Mason's hamper, a wine cooler and a game of cricket?

But just in case one might think that it was all sitting around yesterday and that no work was done on Nailed, here are some pictures which show the scene that was shot over and over that day - with Jake and Jessica Biel leading a line of girl scouts up and down the Statehouse steps. There's a chance - and I may be very wrong of course - that, in the last of these pictures, that's James Marsden in his uniform (thanks very much, friend, for the link to these pictures).

Jake and Reese were spotted out on Sunday eating at Zaytinya's in the US capital. The Washington Post supplies a few more details: 'They split the octopus and the lamb, but he had the snail all to himself, since she didn't touch it. Emilio Estevez showed up later with a party of 12 but never intersected with his Hollywood compatriots.' This site has never shyed away from food and culinary adventure, but I have to draw breathe at the idea of octopus and snail - I take my hat off to you, Jake.

Looking at the seafood mezze menu, I'm wondering if they were eating the Cretan snails, sauteed in a garlic broth with ouzo and parsley, and the Octopus Santorini, comprising baby octopus, marinated onions, capers and yellow split pea puree. This would be fine, but I am unable to eat food that is cute (or orange, but that's another story).

Meanwhile...Superhero fashion

While Jake was at work in South Carolina yesterday, his sister Maggie attended the fittingly named Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Maggie didn't have Peter with her, unfortunately, but she made up for it with an amazing dress by another Peter (Som), who escorted her to the event. One could hide a lot of booty in the folds of that dress.

you got it! that is definitely James Marsden in the uniform..did I mention I was talking to him while he was buttoning up his pants..haha I will never forget that..he has a great smile too! The guy that took those pictures must have hid his camera because they were very strict yesterday on that. That was the scene they filmed over and over..the girls and the cast would line up and walk up the stairs..it was so cute some of the girls went and gave Jake a hug and they were so excited..it was great

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Nicole! Thanks for that - I thought it might be him and put my neck out. Ahem talking to James while he buttoned up his trousers? I hope you kept your eyes steady ;D It looks like a really cute scene and I'm glad Jake got hugs from the girls, lucky so and sos....

I love the pic - looking good, girl (or should that be Nicole with a c?)!

Anonymous said...

Oh absolutely Stunning, Maggie!

Congrats to Nicole :)

I draw the line at eating anything with eight legs and tentacles, too, WDW! I like calimari tho. :)

Nicole said...

I was actually waiting on Jake to come out of the trailer after lunch..and I see James walking towards me and I guess he didn't have enough time to button up his pants..but i didn't mind :)

Hey sweeetpeeps! OMG Maggie looks gorgeous. Because I am tall and have similar tastes haha (but no lil brother, sadly) I adore her clothes and herself.

Octopus ! - is delish as is squid yum yum and snails double yum. of course you've gotta have a coupla martinis first, to get you in the mood. also, when preparing. O new fantasy material: slicing and sharing slimy slivers of octopus tentacles with Jake while drinking a really fine chardonnay

I have a friend who LOVES sea urchins even though she says they look like snot. but sweet!

sigh!

Anonymous said...

p.s. Nicole thank you for sharing the hot and tasty bits, such as JM buttonin' up his pants. if it were Jake we'd all be straight out swooned on the dancefloor.

pps

Its George Clooney's birthday, for anyone for whom that's relevant. Not me.

Anonymous said...

I love both octopus (as WDW can testify when she discard those poor octopus babies from her seafood pasta!) and snail! omg... escargot! one of the foods that one should eat before you die... yum!

I'd say Jake knows his food :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Well done Nicole for keeping your mind focused :D

Hi Bertie :D Isn't that an amazing dress - and the pride that maggie takes wearing it - I love that - and the red lips :D

I like squid but I can't bear to eat baby seafood because they are look too cute. The hours it takes me to eat a seafood linguine...

Hey Pia :D I've never eaten snails myself but I love garlic and I can knock back raw oysters like it's nobody's business but I have a snail block. Jake can help me with that :D I would never be able to eat urchin that looked like snot and I reckon Jake wouldn't like it either - I rest my case :D

I like George - he was a big presence in Toronto and I love him for it :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Winterbird! Oh the trauma of picking out all the baby octopus from my linguine :( Jake would have loved the way you knocked them back! So you've eaten snail then? I tell you what, in jake's absence, you'll have to direct me sometime in the delicacy of snail eating :) I like how Jake is an adventurous gourmet (but I'm still sure he prefers food that isn't cute or orange).

Jake and Jessica Biel leading a line of girl scouts up and down the Statehouse steps.

The mind boggles...There more I hear about this film the more bizarre it sounds,if nothing else I would go and see it just out of curiosity! I've got a good feeling about it though :D

Never tried Octopus Santorini, but I love Octopus a la my mum, with white wine, garlic, tomatoes and herbs and stuff:D I couldn't eat snails though - I feel guilty for days if I accidentally step on one when it's been raining! Besides it would be like eating Brian from the Magic Roundabout ;(

Oh, and Maggie's dress is gorgeous:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey TL - yes that horrible feeling when you go out at night and crunch crunch all along the pavement :( Not a problem you get with octopus. I could eat an adult big octopus (although obviously not a whole one ;D) but it's the little cute crunch ones. That recipe of your mum's sounds great :D

Nailed sounds so screwball and unexpected I can't wait to see what Jake does with it :D

BirdGirl said...

Yay more pictures!

I am also getting really excited about this film. It seems rather strange. I always like strange movies.

All of this talk of fishy things is making me nauseous. Yuck, yuck, yuck! All of it. You couldn't give me enough liquor to eat baby octopus.

Now that I have that out of my system…

Maggie looks absolutely stunning. Then again doesn't she always?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Bird Girl :D It certainly sounds strange to me, so bring it on! I agree about the baby octopus, I'd had a lot of liquor and not one passed my lips (I hope) :D

Maggie looks gorgeous :)

Well done Nicole for patience and perseverance. So happy for him and Reese that she took time to visit him. Jake looks relaxed and cool in those pictures and a little boyish too.

I have to say beyond my better judgement I read the comments with the pictures at that website and it really sickens me. Nothing Jake and Reese do will ever be 'right' in some people's eyes. *swear word* let them be. My mama always told me "if you don't have anything nice to say then say nothing at all". *ends sermon*

The thought of Jake eating octupus and snails sent a shudder all the way up my spine... just the thought... *shakes head violently to get thought out of head*

... but even that can't put me off that beautiful boy.

So glad you liked Iron Man WDW, did you stay till the very end?

To think, we have two Jake movies to look forward to this year and hopefully many more to come. I have faith in Russell's creative endeavour to pull this thing off. Surely if the cast are having fun, it will show in the film.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba!

I do think Jake looks like he may be having fun with Nailed - that really encourages me. Yep, my motto exactly, be polite or say nothing at all. I tried to say right to the very end of Iron Man but they turned it off! So I'll have to wait for the DVD. Why do I find the idea of Jake eating snails so... exotic :D

BirdGirl said...

Yeah I heard that there is something after the credits.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Bird Girl - not at my theatre there wasn't :( they booted us out. Not good as I hate to be rushed.

Anonymous said...

O God yes, Jake and snails, butter and garlic and those lovely little snail graspers -

I am over the waterfall. . . .

Anonymous said...

sheba I think you come to the wrong site to defend Jake and Reese, if you notice Reese is almost completely ignored by most commenters.

Anonymous said...

O Maggie's beautiful arms! O gosh I wanna be a superhero! (who says Im not heh heh heh)

Anonymous said...

Jake looks happy! Maybe it has something to do with the gf visiting him? I hope he really is happy with her and that she has a good influence on him. I really hope it!

Nicole, I'm glad you got to see Jake and all the other stars! :)

WDW, thanks for the updates!

Sandy!

twistedlogic said...

Anon, there's no need for anyone to "defend" Reese or anyone else on here, because whatever or whoever the subject, all of us regulars here always keep it polite and respectful towards EVERYONE.

Hey WDW! Yeah, my mum is a brilliant cook, but it seems I missed out on that gene:( But I'd be willing to learn if Jake were to bring out a cookery book(preferably one with lots with lots of pictures:))

Anonymous said...

Well TL you might want to add to yr cookery books some terrific classic Japanese erotic etchings of Octopodomy! I dunno about snails, though, have not seen any snail erotica.

Anonymous said...

hey WDW... trust the name - L'escargot by Marco Pierre White in Greek Street, soho is a good place to try escargot... but of course, it's way cheaper if you hop over to Paris :)

I don't get the "ick" factor of snail... you don't even realise it's snail... i'd say if you can eat mussel, you can eat snails. And oh they are not cute!

Judging by Jake's adventurous appetite, I think he probably eats sweetbreads too.

oh... i am hungry!

Anonymous said...

how about brains in black butter sauce? Ive made those. sinilar to sweetbreads.

twistedlogic said...

Ok Pia, I give up, what's octopodomy?! Whatever it is, I'm not sure it has anything to do with the kind of pictures I have in mind for Jake's cookery book, but I'm very open minded;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Snarky anons out to create trouble where there is none will not be tolerated. As I said yesterday, I do not tolerate rudeness to Reese, Jake, each other, or me, least of all by those who hide behind the label 'anonymous'.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Right, I'm back again feeling calmer. Where are we...

Hi Sandy! It is good to see Jake smiling like that - maybe he was also thinking about the menu he'll be served at the governor's mansion tonight :D

Hey TL - I think a Jake cookbook - written by us obviously as Jake might be too busy - is an excellent idea, but I can't do anything that encourages anyone to eat anything cute or orange. I could do the breakfast section.

Octopodomy??? Erotic Japanese octopus drawings - I can safely say that is the most off topic thing I've heard in my entire life :D

Winterbird, that's true. Snails are not cute so maybe I could tolerate one, just as long as it didn't fight back. I can't remember what sweetbreads are but I fear they may have something to do with offal :(

No thanks Pia!

Usually when we talk about food I get an appetite, this time I feel like I may never eat again! Better stick with the liquid diet...

Anonymous said...

Sorry TL, She Who Must Be Obeyed sez octopodemy is Off Topic. oh well.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh no Pia, you don't get out of it that easy!! Tell TL what octopodomy is :D I fear it is more than the study of the number 8 :)

twistedlogic said...

Octopodomy is so off topic even Google doesn't know what it is! :D And as for Pia's suggestion of brains - that's a definite no from me. I still remember all too clearly seeing pig brains in a butcher's shop once, asking what it was out of curiosity and my stomach wishing I hadn't! This has to be one of the most surreal conversations I've had on here:D

I can't cook worth a damn, so I can't ghost write Jake's cookbook for him, but I don't mind helping out with the pictures :)

Anonymous said...

Hey TL I read your post as "cant cook worth a clam. . . " shows where my mind is.

Well you can google Japanese erotic art, woman and octopus, and a whole new world opens up. this is by the way very respectable stuff in terms of classic Japanese woodcuts.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I think Jake would approve of the illustrations in this book of culinary treats :D

If you don't mind though, I'm going to have some conventional ice cream (not brain flavoured) with a whisky and a few mins of something Jakey.

sheba said...

Thanks guys. Nuff said...

Octopodomy? Sounds like an operation.

"Usually when we talk about food I get an appetite, this time I feel like I may never eat again! Better stick with the liquid diet..."

LOL, same here. Just had some Stones Ginger Wine. I wonder if those 'foods' have the same 'powers' as oysters?

Oh.... and I volunteer for a main course as long as Jake's head chef.

Doesn't James Marsden look almost unrecognisable? I hope he gets more recognition after this.

Hey WDW, speaking of superheros, you know the same thing happened to me with them trying to get me out of the cinema but I and a handful of other people hung around and held our ground and was rewarded. If the distributors knew that cinemas were cutting the credits short they would not be pleased. $199 million worldwide - how fantastic is that. I also saw the interview on Saturday RDJ at his best.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba :D

Stones Ginger Wine... not had that in a long time :)

I didn't recognise James Marsden at all. You did well with the end of Iron man. I couldn't believe it when they actually turned it off during the credits - first time I'd seen that. I am so delighted with how well Iron Man's doing and it deserves it.

twistedlogic said...

Hey Pia! I googled that... Interesting. I thought I'd pretty much seen and heard it all but apparently not :0

LOL! I can't cook worth a damn OR a clam, I'm not even that good with a can opener, I always end up spilling half the contents, even without a semi naked Ennis ditracting me;(

Nicole said...

believe it or not it took me a while to figure out that was James Marsden myself! If I was closer to him I would have known right away..but when I first got there he was a little far and I kept thinking to myself who is that guy?? he seemed important because the important people got umbrellas between takes..he came a little closer and i was like omg thats james marsden!! I'm a pretty big james marsden fan and i guess the mustache was what made it hard..

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey TL - speaking as someone who had beans on toast this evening, I'm not proud of my own skills :\

Hi Nicole! I like the idea of making stars stand out by sticking a huge brolly over their heads! I only know James Marsden from X-Men and he looks very different here. I wouldn't recognise him. I can't wait to see him and I think Jessica looks pretty interesting in this too.

Nicole said...

Jake and James kept walking away when someone would stick an umbrella over their heads :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That's funny, Nicole, and interesting. I imagine it would make one very self-conscious to have a huge brolly held over your head the entire time. I'd love to have seen that :)

sheba said...

Yeah, me too. It was also cool to see Jake sitting on the grass. That really must have upset the costumers.

Hey WDW, Stones is great with ice and a slice. Usually cures any tummy aches I've got and aides restful sleep.

So, about this cookbook, it's a great idea. I do a mean potato salad and always get asked to provide some when there's a big party. Anyway, we already have one of Jake's 3 minute dishes ;D

Maggie looked absolutely stunning, definitely one of the best dressed there. Purple really suits her too. Eva Mendes looked beautiful too in that colour. I think that event was for charity?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Sheba - this gala sounds like quite an event - it heralds an exhibition (on superheroes) but has become a bit of an annual party for the stars. Apparently it was hosted this year by birthday boy George Clooney and Get Real's filming neighbour Julia Roberts :) Maggie looked stunning. That colour does suit her.

I really liked the picture of jake sitting on the grass :D

Jake's three minutes dishes - I like that. I can just about stretch to the starburst and strawberries surprise...

sheba said...

Would have loved to see Gorgeous George in his Batman suit one more time (not to replace the superb Christian Bale) and happy birthday to George. There were some powerhouses there also.

Me thinks the Stones are having their effect. A good night of Jakeing after a few days of absence. Night all:D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

G'night, Sheba - it's been fun and good to have you back :D

Night all :)

This is hilarious! Maybe Jake and James read the comments when the "Jake + umbrella holder" pics showed up a few weeks ago? Also paparazzi were there and we don't need more controversial "umbrella pics"! LOL! ;)

I've had snails as appetizers at parties, and they were yummy.

My favorite Chinese restaurant has fried squid prepared with salt and pepper, and I love it.

I probably haven't ever eaten octopus, though I can't be sure: when I was in Taiwan, there were a lot of dishes that contained I couldn't identify. :-( But they tasted good.

Thanks for the pics of maggie. That's two more that I've saved for my Maggie file.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone - another stunning day, far too good to be indoors slaving over a hot PC.

Hi Shebea - yep, no more Brollygate! I've got this image in my head of Jake and James being chased by a load of brolly-wielding assistants...

Morning Paul :D snails at parties eh, whatever happened to cheese on sticks? I've got quite a collection of Maggie pics too :D

Have a great day everyone, including all those in Columbia :D

Welcome Jakefan! Good to meet you. I'm so glad you like the site :D

I was really pleased to see that casting news - I much prefer Brolin to Caan, in my worthless opinion. Kirstie Alley annoys me but I can be won over :D

Good to see you, Jakefan :)

Xenia said...

Hey WDW and everyone!

Oh I can eat octopus and snails and lamb with no problems at all Jake, we're bound to be soulmates I tell you.
But I won't share my helping, neither with you Jake. Yeah, I'm selfish like that. :)

James Marsden in the last pic? Isn't he in every pic? I can see Jake in the first two pics but James apparently is in all of them!

Oh and Maggie is stunning in that purple dress...

Have a great day everyone.:)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Xenia! That's OK, you can keep your octopus and snails all to yourself :D That's a good point about James in the pics, he just sorta stood out in the last one. Sometimes I need things to hit me with a hammer. I hope you're having a lovely day - a gorgeous one here (be better if Jake popped by to take me out to lunch in the Botanic Gardens but I can dream ;D)

Nicole said...

good morning! I have a question..when they do a premier of the movie..will they come back to Columbia to do it? i was just wondering how that whole thing works!

-Nicole with a C :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning Nicole with a c! I'm afraid it doesn't normally work like that. I imagine that the premiere will be in the usual places (NYC, LA and - with any luck - London;D) There was some expectation that the Zodiac premiere may have taken place in San Fran but, of course, it didn't happen.

Hope you're having a good day :D

Nicole said...

thanks for the quick reply..I was just wondering since the movie Leatherheads with George Clooney was filmed in Greenville, SC they had the premier there last month

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That was good of George to do that :D That's not typical though, unfortunately. Be good if they could squeeze in an extra premiere or a gala in SC.

Appetizers come in many different forms, WDW. I especially love calzones and dim sum. I've made many different kinds of both.

Nicole, I think you are very lucky about talking to James Marsden. He is really likable, someone with a long, glorious career ahead of him.

AACK....WDW you are too quick for me!! I was going to post here about Jake at Zaytinya!! I did not get to read the Post until Tuesday evening..then had to schlep my daughter home from college..and by the time I got home, it was too late to log on for a post...sigh!! I am kind of sad that he was in town, and I did not know it...BUT..in reality, even if I had known he was in town...how would I have known where he was going to pop up? There are so many fabulous restaurants from which to choose in the metro D.C. area..he could have been anywhere...Also..I am guessing he was nowhere near the Avon walk for breast cancer, because the Post also covered that very heavily and there were no pics of him..just Reese. I totally agree with you...octopus..yuck..but my husband and both daughters like it..especially in sushi...anyway..different strokes for different folks...thank G-d we are all different..yeah? Thanks for the wonderful post and keeping us updated on all things Jake...

Hi Paul - I'm starving now so I may not be able to tlk about appetizers. At the moment, put it in front of me and I'll eat it.

Hey there Michele - I know how frustrating it is to know Jake is so close and not be able to do anything about it. So maybe, yeah, best not to know. I must say that I love love love sushi! Good to see you :D
