While the future of Nailed hung in the balance, we were sustained through the worry by the mental images conjured up by sightings of Jake Gyllenhaal working out and lifting weights in the Strom gym in Columbia, South Carolina. While this indicated that Jake had not given up hope of getting back to work, it was also a selfless act on his part, knowing as he surely must, that nothing can get his fans through such anxious times better than the thought of Jake getting up a sweat. As a result, and because of great pressure from all sides (naming no names), such pictures are used to illustrate this post.
Back to work
What a relief! the director and his actors have been allowed by their unions to take a deep breath and walk back on to The Nailed Set. Funds have been found to guarantee wages and, although the walkout was only for one working day, it can't be easy when you're trying to focus and get into the mindset of an immoral congressman with a dodgy hairdo - or a sex-crazed woman with a nail in her head, for that matter.
Variety broke the news that the production was back at work on Monday. And rather worryingly highlighted that the troubles of Nailed were just another example of the troubles currently being endured by its makers, ThinkFilm, of Capitol. This is inspite of the fact that 'Capitol and ThinkFilm have a significant presence at Cannes. They've scheduled a total of 10 screenings this week for five pics, including romantic drama "The Edge of Love," with Cillian Murphy and Keira Knightley; "Incendiary," with Ewan McGregor, Matthew Macfadyen and Michelle Williams; romantic comedy "The Last Word," with Ray Romano, Wes Bentley and Winona Ryder; mystery drama "The Oxford Murders," with Elijah Wood and John Hurt; and supernatural thriller "Aparecidos."' None of this bodes well for independent film makers.
Furthermore, according to Nikki Finke's latest update, Nailed is not the first production of ThinkFilm's to have been shut down, while others have left cast and crew members unpaid and not happy.
One can only hope that it is plain sailing on The Nailed Set from now on and that everyone can get down to what's important - filming scenes or trying to spot Jake Gyllenhaal filming those scenes.
No post featuring pictures of Jake excercising should be without this classic:
And when it's all over, time to cool off...
Trailers and toys
I'm sure I wasn't alone in my hope of seeing the new Dark Knight trailer when I went to see Iron Man last weekend. I was disappointed, even though all the trailers seemed to be about some superhero or other. But now the trailer is available to see officially, in glorious widescreen, on the film's website and also through a link at Empire. Heath Ledger is hypnotic in it and Maggie is beautiful. Strange as it is to believe, this film is now only two months away... Quite the campaign.
Talking of The Dark Knight promotions - you can now buy figurines of Heath as the Joker - or at least you can on eBay because, apparently, they have been flying off the shelves since they went on sale this week and they've not even needed Batwings. According to one report: 'An employee of a New York City Toys R Us store told Contactmusic.com, “There are none left in the warehouse. You will be waiting awhile if you want one.” Some fans are believed to be buying up stock, convinced the figure is a collector’s item, and others are selling them on auction site eBay for up to $55 each.' If things go to plan, I'm counting on having a whole army of little Princes of Persia.
Pictures from IHJ and The Dark Knight.

Hey WDW, hope you're feeling better. Good news on all front with Nailed and I see you brought out the classic pics. I wonder if Jake looked in the mirror before he came out to jog in those opaque black tights LOL!
I did see the new trailer when I saw Iron Man two weeks ago - so poignant. I was excited and so sad at the same time. Maggie looked very confident in her role as Rachel. This I'm looking forward to more than any other film (after Iron Man) this year.
Hi Sheba :D Feeling much better now, just tired, thanks. Pia and Winterbird kicked up a fuss for sweaty Jake so I gave in - not difficult, as you can imagine :D Oh those black tights... kinda cute though :)
You're so lucky to have seen the trailer, I was hoping. Instead there was a lot of a the new Will Smith film. I'd love to see it - I know it would make make me catch breath in every way. But not long to the film. Maggie looks gorgeous in the trailer too. Talking of Iron Man I'd love to see it again now - always a good sign.
"Iron Man" was an amazingly good film, with a very appealing performance by Robert Downey Jr at its core.
How much are the "Prince of Persia" figurines going for?
Hi Paul - Iron Man was just great and mostly because of RDJ. The PoP figures won't be available for an age, but the Dark Knight figures cost about $10 I believe.
Yes, wasn't Robert excellent?! I was like a kid in a candy store. Going to see it again this weekend and dragging the older kid with me and little man too. As for the Batman and Joker figurines, I shall be getting them when available to go with my Aragon figurine. And, can't wait to get my PoP figurine too :DD
You certainly didn't need too much arm twisting to post some of these gems, lovely to as there are a few I'd not seen before (especially wet Jake). What the tights took away the body certainly was a huge distraction, what a torso that man has and huge shoulders - I love his body. I'm so glad he's all grown up, hairy and manly as my lust would be so wrong on all levels. Beautiful Jake.
Thanks for all the Jake in tank top pics :)
Not my fault that Jake can go around all sweaty (and without rightgaurd, no less!) and have random men and women (and dogs) following him.
Good news about Nailed. But I bet Jake's been in the business long enough to know the chances and maybe he has confidence it would work out, so he stays in S.C.
I don't know what to make of the Jake figurine yet... I don't think I could bear to keep one at home myself. but I am glad that it's selling through the roof.
I love grown up Jake, too, Sheba :D
Hi Winterbird :D too true, noone but Jake to blame for being so irresistible - even in black tights and/or plaid. I find figurines a bit scary, a Joker one especially.
oops... i mean Joker figurine...
Also, thank you for providing that information on the backers - ThinkFilm and Capitol. Independants are finding it terribly hard to compete with mindless, unintelligent blockbusters filmgoers will have no desire to see again. Even big names like Tom Hanks, Leo DiCaprio, Scarlet Johansen etc are struggling to get audiences in.
I've seen several long clips of The Oxford Murders and would love to see that film when it's out. Also, I've loved Wes Bently ever since I saw him in American Beauty - he was also a close personal friend of Heath's and he had wonderful things to say about him. I'm glad that he got is love of acting back, thanks largely to Heath and look forward to seeing him in a romantic comedy as he seemed to play dark, disturbed characters.
It's a sorry state of affairs really, Sheba. Movie audiences are going to be disappointed. I like a summer blockbuster but that's what? Two cinema trips a year? And I'm someone who likes to go every week if I can, if there's something worth seeing - there isn't. So Jake's gonna have to stay busy :D
I'm biased against the Oxford Murders (I have so many 'biased againsts' - love 'em!) because I live in Oxford and have spent years seeing Inspector Morse being filmed around the place - seems like a copy to me. But I've not seen it, so I'm almost certainly wrong. John Hurt (he's in it, isn't he?) is one of those actors I've admired but he makes some absolute dribble (loved Contact though... and that old film about penguins :D).
Thank you, WDW!!!!
I love Jake Working Out pictures!!! But I must confess: my all time favorite Jake Being Athletic pictures are The Baseball With Green Shorts series. Topless, sweaty, and H.O.T. They are my OMG pictures. I cherish each and every one. :) :) :)
Hey WDW! Love the concept of today's post:D *prays that someone will post a sighting of Jake topless* I have to ask, what was going on between Jake and the guy in the red shirt? It looks like he was giving Jake a shopping list and Jake was running off to do his shopping for him!? Weird...And the guy is definitely checking Jake out when he's running off:D
The story about the Joker figurines seems rather ghoulish to me:( I'm trying to avoid all TDK trailers and pics that Heath is in, cos I'm really looking forward to seeing it but at the same time I'm dreading it, so I don't want to drag it out, or potentially talk myself out of it if the trailers upset me.
I might have to get myself a Prince Jake action figure though. I hope they're not going to be giving them away in McDonalds as well - we'll all be the size of houses! :0
Hi Bobbyanna :D I love those baseball pics too but I love this series with Jake playing basketball and especially the one where he's aiming, deep in concentration with his tongue peeping out. I wonder if it went in :D One thing's for sure I need no excuse to post pics of Sporty Jake :D
Hey TL! From what I remember, and it's a while ago now, that guy in the red shirt was involved in BBM - one of the producers possibly. And Jake just bumped into him. They hugged and exchanged phone/contact details and then Jake ran off with the guy looking appreciatively after him! I like that - and he got a hug from sweaty Jake :P
Don't watch the trailers or look at the pics of TDK, if it's too painful - they're there for those who want to see them. I love to see these pictures of Heath and Maggie. But you're certainly gonna go and see it as I'm going with you, remember! And I'm sure we can drag Winterbird, Ruby, Anouska and others along :D
I'm celebrating feeling so much better this evening with a homemade margarita - another way of taking in vitamin C :D
Hot sweaty Jake! "Please, sir, I want some more. . . "
Dark Knight trailer is gorgeous. And cleverly rendered. Lots of Heath. He's gonna be wonderful in this role.
Sounds like you had bad flu, WDW - so glad you're feeling better.
xxxxx
I'd be up for a group viewing of TDK. Have to go with Mr Rubes first though. I'll probably make it through the movie ok and bawl like a baby through the credits. I had braced myself for the trailer when I went to see Iron Man and was disappointed they didn't show it.
I confess to having pre-ordered a Joker figurine through Forbidden Planet. Not the one you've pictured though. Not my usual thing, but I just had to.
I think the alcohol in your margarita cancels out the Vit C, WDW. :D
Oh yes, how could I have forgotten you'd have an 'Oxford' bias. What do you call a person from Oxford? I was thinking Oxfordian, Oxo Cubed etc. Am I close? I've loved John Hurt since I Claudius. I never thought I could feel sorry for such an incredibly nasty, evil, psychotic character as he played it. Yes, he's the professor and Elijah Wood is his adoring student. I like the direction Elijah's career is going recently he's starting to make some really good choices.
Hey, seems like you're starting a party over there. Margaritas? Where's the vitamin C in that (and I hope you're not talking about the slice of lemon!). I was gonna send you some Lemon and Ginger Dalgeity tea but so glad you're better enought to bring the party to us :DD
Hey Pia :D Never enough hot sweaty sporty Jake... I thought the trailer was gorgoues too - I'm so new to the Batman genre but I love what they're doing with it and the Joker looks like the tour de force. I'm feeling so much better, thanks! Can't talk yet, though, but that's a blessing :D I have one thing to say - I'm not bothering with the flu jab again...
I understand that most people will want to see the trailers and pics for TDK, I didn't mean you shouldn't post them just cos I'm a wuss;) I am really looking forward to seeing it, particularly as I'll be seeing it with you(and anyone else who wants to come along:).In fact, if I wasn't going to see it with fellow WDW-ers I don't think I could face it.
Thanks for explaining about Red Shirt Man :)
Glad you're feeling better WDW - these alternative therapies of yours may be unconventional, but I'm glad they've done the trick:D
Hi Ruby! Yes, I have to see it on my first too. I'll be the one sobbing in the cinema with everyone looking at me like I'm an idiot. ooh, when you get your Joker figurine you'll have to send me a photo of it. I've not seen other types. I'll have you know that I squeezed an extra half lemon into my margarita and put a slice of lime in - it's positively overflowing with vitamin c and the goodness of fruit :D
Hi Sheba! There are lots of names for people from Oxford and many aren't polite and depend on whether they're town or gown. The usual refrain here is 'bloody students'... But I suppose Oxfordian is the norm :)
I loved John Hurt in I, Claudius - one of my favourite books and serials of all time. I've seen Derek Jacobi in so many plays over the years, including a hugely memorable Richard II. I suppose I should see Oxford Murders, it's being plugged all round the town. I wonder what the profs here think of it, if they've even noticed. I like Elijah Wood, but like Daniel Radcliffe more. I tend to group the two together for some reason.
I squeezed two whole lemons into my margarita and a pinch of lime :D Thanks for the offer of the tea, but I'm ready to drink something naughty now :D Unfortunately, it's almost all gone. I'll have to find something else :D
Hey TL, don't worry, I know what you meant :) A group trip will be good for us all. And thinking about Heath should also be a cause of pleasure. You're not a wuss, tusck (I'm trying to tut but that doesn't look right). I have no end of unnatural remedies for pains and ills :D
Speaking of "unusual remedies" -
There was an article in the NYT today about a woman almost ready to die of cancer who while in a capsule for an MRI had a vision of her favorite actor, fell in love, and died with a smile on her face.
Way to go!
Oh blimey, Pia :D That's an amazing story. Definitely what a way to go, and I wonder if the dream would continue. Did she die having the scan, and if so how did they know about her vision?
She told the MDS about her vision as she emerged from the MRI tube and spent her end days happily.
I know that a good margarita can have a positive effect, too. with a shot of H&S Jacobo on the side.
^ Too weird!
I thought it was Oxonian, WDW ;D
Yes to a TDK get-together. It'll be a first for me, paying for a Batman movie. :)
Thanks Pia, I love that story. My margarita is gone unfortunately but there's plenty of H&S Jacobo to keep me going.
Hey Nouskie :D No, we don't like Oxonians as everyone in Oxfordshire or Oxon is one of them and, well, we're funny about that sorta thing ;D
I've never paid for a Batman movie either but this will be a happy exception :D
Hey WDW! I knew you knew what I meant, just wanted to make sure, if you know what I mean;) I've been trying to email you about TDK, but my PC has got sunstroke or something atm :(
Btw, speakng of Heath films, as well as BBM and Candy on Channel 4, Ch5 are showing The Patriot on Sunday at 10pm. I wonder why all the Heath films on the same day? Reminds me of when CH4 decided to show TDAT the same night that Jake was at the Baftas.
Hey Pia! Love that story about the woman having a vision of her favourite actor! Who was it, btw?
Hey TL - got your email :D Patriot's on too? Maybe C4 is trying to mark the premiere of BBM - it really is a big thing.
Hello WDW,evenin' all :-) These Tuesdays keep on whipping round don't they - 16 weeks :-(
I couldn't resist watching the TDK trailer but if that short precis of Heath's last complete performance is anything to go by,I'm going to be a wreck when I see the whole film. Heath is mesmerising as The Joker and Maggie a beautiful foil for his strangely sexy menace. I shall go to see TDK at the cinema accompanied only by a box of kleenex.
Channel 4 showed a trailer last night for their terrestrial premiere of "Brokeback" this coming Sunday. Did anyone else see it because it keeps popping into my mind that it was the full screen version rather than the widescreen version I have on DVD and I don't know if my memory's playing tricks on me?
Something horrible that has occurred to me is that as Channel 4 is a commercial TV station there will be ad breaks interrupting the film - is it me or is that tantamount to sacrilege?!!
Re-read the article, it was a singer, not an actor, and she wouldnt tell who it was, since he was married.
Oh Nadine, you read my mind again about the ad breaks! Yes, it is sacrilegeous and I don't think I'm going to watch it for precisely that reason - I can't bear the thought of that beautiful film being chopped to pieces to make way for the ad breaks:( I always assumed that the terrestrial premiere of BBM would be on the Beeb - I want my licence money back.
Hi Nadine - no, I didn't see the trailer. It is a shame BBM will be on C4 and so have adverts unlike on the Beeb but C4 are so good buying these excellent films. It'll be hard for me persuading Mr WDW to watch it (he'll say - you have it on 4 kinds of DVD) but I really want to see it the first time it's on TV. And I love that some people will see it for the first time and maybe a few of them will go through what we went through. They'll be the lucky ones though as they'll have all of us.
Hey Pia :D
Hi TL :D But how can you sit there knowing it's on TV? Of course a lot of people have Sky and cable - which I don't - and so there'll be used to it on TV. I'd find it so hard having a Sunday evening, knowing it was on TV and not watching it. I have the rest of the week to work on Mr WDW!
^^^ But forgot to say, TL, but what if they put the ad break during but not before FIT or SNIT has finished? Then I'd be throwing things at the TV and it wont be pretty!
I know what you mean WDW, I really wanted to see it the first time it was on terrestrial TV as well. It was on several times when I had free Sky a few months ago, but I couldn't bring myself to watch it then(although I did record it in case anything happens to the DVD and I need an emergency backup!).I just know I'll get so wound up and upset and frustrated when the ad breaks come on, I don't know if I want to put myself through that. I'll see how I feel on Sunday,I'll probably watch until the first ad break, then come here to rant about it ;) As for Mr WDW, you'll just have to hide the remote;)
Just saw your PS,Spooky twin :D If they do that, I will make a formal complaint to OFCOM - seriously. I've never understood why people do that, but if they mess with SNIT, FNIT or the Reunion kiss,or the Motel scene, or the "just like this always" scene...See, this is what I mean - you just CANNOT interrupt this film for ad breaks, it's just wrong!
Don't worry TL, we'll be here when it's on :) I've not seen it for a long time all the way through and so it's not an easy night's viewing. Good idea about the remote :D
I've completely lost my voice - that's going to be fun at work tomorrow :) NO more singing for me tonight :D
Hey Spooky twin - totally agree - if they mess with these crucial scenes, there'll be trouble! It worries me that they may see FNIT and SNIT as the ends of phases and so put in a break, more so for FNIT. All the breaks should fall in scenes with Lureen's father :D
It probably depends on the timing,I think they have rules about how often they're allowed to have ad breaks. At least with Channel 4 we're pretty much guaranteed that they won't be concerned about cutting any scenes out so as not to upset the Daily Mail reading brigade;)
I just hope whoever's in charge of editing for the ad breaks treats the film with the respect and sensitivity it deserves. I'm off to watch some uninterrupted SNIT now, night everyone xx
I sit here with a rather sad smile on my face. Wondering in which lifetime it will be OK for them to air BBM on non-cable TV, in the U.S.A.
A year ago, I'd reached a point where I couldn't watch it past "...as long as we can ride it..." But I know I couldn't watch it now at all.
I did see A Knight's Tale by accident a short while ago and found myself captivated at the pure beauty and the joy of it and of Heath. I just "went with it" and I was OK until it ended. The profound sense of loss hits afterward for me.
TDK is sort of looming. I definitely intend to see it that very first weekend. I want to support Heath. But I am under no illusions about how it will affect me. It's just something I have to do for him.
I SAW JAKE TODAY!!!! ok so they were not filming at the statehouse today but they were filming in a park downtown..i wasn't expecting to go down there today but my friend and I decided to stop by since we were in the area..we drove around and immediately saw the crew and extras sign and then we saw the set!! They were filming a wedding scene today..I believe tracy morgan might have been the groom but i'm not sure I do know that it was an african american bride..Jake was the best man and Jessica was the maid of honor or bridesmaid and James Marsden was also there..we couldn't get real close today so it was a little harder to see..sometimes we could hear them talking..Jake was wearing a kinda white or off whitish suit..he looked very handsome! :) James was wearing his uniform and Jessica was wearing a nice short dress! it's really late so I will try to remember all the details later...we couldn't get real close to the stars today so I didn't get a chance to talk to anyone..but the crew was very nice today..they offered us popsicles and we needed it because it was very hot today! I didn't take any pics today because they wouldn't allow us and I didn't bring my camera with me..my friend took one picture and hopefully she will email me the pic soon..good night everyone!
Wow! I came here to post on Sporty Jake, all sweaty and breathless, and what did I find? Another fantastic Jake sighting from our dearest Nicole...
Thank you Nicole, you're great. And I love you. :*
Have a great day today WDW and everyone! This certainly is a very nice start BTW.:)
morning! how are you feeling today WDW? summer's gone again! :(
It'll be hard for me persuading Mr WDW to watch it (he'll say - you have it on 4 kinds of DVD)
me too! I have 4 BBM DVD at home, including one pirate copy a friend bought me from China, they have the weirdest Chinese subtitles, when Ennis said "you know i ain't queer", they translated into "i ain't seen any bear"!! LOL...
I've watched BBM on Greek TV once already though.
Wow.. congrats Nichole! seeing Jake and knowing he's somewhere close by in your town, that's a good feeling, isn't it?
oh... can I join the TDK group viewing? I think we'll make a scene because we'll be cheering for the bad guy!
Thanks Nicole! Looks like it's business as usual then, hope it stays that way now:)
Hey Winterbird! I was just thinking that, about TDK - we'll all be rooting for the villain:D Hope you can make it along too, bring plenty of tissues and don't wear mascara;)
Morning everyone :D Back at the office but it's hurting.
Hey Nicole - great sighting! And how great to have firsthand confirmation that the shoot is going on. And a whitish suit? Lovely! I hope you get the pic from your friend. A great way to start the day!
Good to see you all - back later when I can chat more :D
Bueno, Nicole, for sighting of Jake in whitish suit! (no pix okay, at least for now, since I dug out the GQ with Jake in whitish Prada suit to add form to fantasy, or somethin')
Yay Nicole! Yay that Nailed is back on track.
And you, too, WDW, even though its not the track you love best - trackin' Jake is your true calling, sure enuff. . . .
hey everyone! I forgot to add that Jake was chewing no maybe even smacking his gum and blowing a lot of bubbles..he was really enjoying that gum I guess he had to have it for that scene which is weird to be blowing bubbles during the wedding..haha anyways at one point between the scene he went and sat on a swinging bench and I have to say I couldn't take my eyes off of him because he was just sitting there so peacefully swinging by himself..I wouldn't to just go and sit next to him :)
Hey there!
Nicole, this is great! Keep the details coming, we love details - Jake swinging on a swingseat blowing bubbles wearing a white suit - what a sight :D I love that the crew gave you popsicles (I'm thinking these are like British ice lollies)! Do let us know anything you can remember! Anything!
Morning Pia :D
(((Bobbyanna))) It's not easy, is it? I'm glad you watched Knight's Tale. I feel a bit like that about TDK too - I don't want to not go and see Heath's films. It kind of feels like saying hello to Heath by going.
Hey Winterbird - be great to see TDK with you in London :D Those BBM subtitles sound fascinating - sort of like the alternative BBM.
Hi TL - excellent point about Batman - we'll be hoping Batman gets it!
Yes Nicole, anything! OMY I swoon at the thot of the divine tongue poking shapes to blow the divine breath into bubbles, pretty bubbles in the sky. what a guy!
