[Update] Bon Dieu - Jake and Maggie ARE in Paris! Seventies chocolate fondue chic, and when was Jake in Cardiff?

Update: 'They've been working on separate projects, but newlyweds Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Skarsgaard have been enjoying time together in Paris – and even made time for their extended family. While Gyllenhaal rushed off for interviews about her 2006 film SherryBaby, she entrusted daughter Ramona to mom Naomi, who babysat. Meanwhile, Skarsgaard spent the afternoon lunching with his brother-in-law, Jake.' Skarsgaard?

Maggie Gyllenhaal is in Paris to publicise Sherry Baby, which, rather surprisingly (and rather slowly - even for a Gyllenhaal film), had its French premiere this week. And yes! You've guessed it - hot on the tweets of Jake being in London, twitters are now tweeting that Jake has followed Maggie to Paris and he too is now in the city of lights! Bon Dieu!!!

And in the immortal words of Douglas Freeman 'Give me pictures, I love pictures'.

Chocolate fondue chic

To commemorate the inclusion of Withnail and I in the Sunday Times this morning (which almost made worthwhile the accompanying 2.5 metric tonnes of newspaper), it's time to take a step back - back to the decade that taste forgot. The decade when black was brown, neck collars reached your knees and when hair was best not looked at - The Seventies. Jake Gyllenhaal has spent much of hs career recreating the 70s, with all of the sartorial misery that this suggests, but his consolation? Having been born in 1980, he didn't actually have to live through the decade himself.

In the words of Robert Graysmith: 'Jake is wearing the same lousy clothes I wore -- the lousy sweater vest and corduroy jacket.' And patches on the elbows, I'm sure I saw patches... It could have been a lot worse, as David Fincher asserted: 'I wanted the '70s to look real and like they felt to me. But at the same time, I didn't want to make a movie about sideburns. I didn't want to make a movie about plaid and flared pants, bell bottoms, and platform shoes. I didn't want it to be kitsch.'

Nevertheless, Jake wasn't impressed by the shirts: ''I remember everyday as I put on my shirt to play the the character, I'd be like [big sigh] 'I hate this shirt' but it worked for me - and not just for the movie - to push myself through that.' I doubt Jake was impressed by the Parker either, which he had tried to lose in Brokeback, along with the moustache, but it had still followed him to the San Francisco Chronicle.

In this video from Zodiac days we can hear more on Jake and Mark Ruffalo's opinions on the 70s. 'If you remember it, you didn't live it...'

In Moonlight Mile, Jake bore the full brunt of the 70s. If you listen to the commentary, you'll hear that Jake wore so much brown he was nicknamed on set 'Doo-doo boy'. An article in the Boston Globe back in 2001, described how Dustin Hoffman 'ditches his character's stifling socks for a pair from his personal stash - a bright red set adorned with smiley faces. This earns him a few amused smirks from the film's production designers, who, to capture the story's 1973 setting, have gone to great lengths to make the clothes, cars, and storefronts along Main Street look as brown as chocolate fondue.' And here was I thinking a chocolate fondue was a good thing.

And finally...

I was bemused to see this description of a club in Cardiff: 'Formerly known as Soda, the bar was also a favourite drinking spot for international stars such as Hollywood heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal and Prince Albert of Monaco.' Answers on a postcard please... I never thought I'd see Jake, Prince Albert of Monaco and a Cardiff bar in the same sentence.

PS...

Please say this isn't true - Zut alors.

LOL!! Well according to tweet he is in Belguim now, yesterday he was in Tennesee, Friday L.A., Thursday Paris and Tuesday/Wednesday London!!

He sure gets around and no pictures!

Hi Anon! Well, the Belgium one is a joke (if you look at the picture with it, as it's very clealy NOT Jake!) and Tennesee was just Reese on her own, so LA, Paris? We need pics! Jake's doing very well with the Airmiles... :D

He was spotted in TN yesterday in TN according to this Twitter, they spelled his name wrong. Bon iver is a music group that played at the Bonnarro music festival this weekend in TN. That was yesterda, along with the Reese sightings in TN. There have been no more Reese or Jake sightings in TN today.

Thanks Anon! I hadn't seen that one :D So where is he now? What we need is someone with a camera...

Move over Waldo!!! Jake is better at this game than you!! Lol!

I'm sure the Bonaroo sighting of him is either a joke or a mistaken ID, because there were tons of Drew Barrymore and Justin Long sightings tweeted by many other people in various sections of the venue over the course of the day but "kathysabretooth" was the ONLY tweet to mention a sighting of Jake. Unless he's in deep costume undercover in rural Tennessee (LOL) odds are he's in UK/Paris. (and without Reese, who is obviously the one who makes sure the paps get photo ops)

Good night, wet dark!
In Sherrybaby, Maggie demonstrates how she's one of the greatest actresses of today.

I saw the photo of Belgium! What happened to Jake? He's so different! Rsrsrsrsrsrsrs

Thank you for all links and photos. Especially the photo of Brokeback!

Good morning everyone! Monday... :(

Hi there Amy! You're so right :D Or Wally as we used to call him.

Hi No Tenn :D These single tweets are odd - LA, TN and now Paris. I agree that if Jake had been at the TN thing he would have been spotted much more. I think it's quite a coincidence for a tweeting of Jake i Paris when we know Maggie is there. So I'll put my money on that one - for the time being. But all we know for certain - Jake is SOMEWHERE! Doesn't anyone have a camera anymore?!!

Morning Monica! Sherry Baby is quite a film. It disturbed me a lot when I saw it. But I have a signed copy from Maggie so it's special to me.

I wonder if that guy really thinks that was Jake!!!

Have a good day everyone! We're forecast big storms - ugh.

I am now very suspicious of all those twitter sightings... for all i know, they could be seeing random hot guys with dark hair and say he's Jake.

let them go crazy with all these DD sequels, I doubt any of them would make any headlines when they are released. there's only one donnie :)

suddnely very cloudy outside. have a good day!

Greetings WDW! Love the post. Jake does wear a lot of brown, not just in Moonlight or Zodiac either. He wears it quite well. A lot of people instantly look ....sandy...if they wear brown. IMHO. Lol!

Have you seen Defamer on the subject of Cantara Christopher's tell-all 'secrets of the gyllenhaals' ? Hilarious. I love the comments too - all seem to agree she is bonkers! Amazing. Agreement in a comments box? I would have said it was impossible!

And since I'm feeling evil: I wanna read the Secrets, tell me tell meee! Heh heh.

The most recent sighting of Jake back in London is accurate.

Hey Winterbird! I know, it's a new sport - trying to work out which tweets might have some truth behind them - but very entertaining.

I think Donnie darko should be allowed to rest in peace.

Getting cloudy here too - is the Great Storm on the way after all?...:/

Hi Monica! It's hysterical! Now sounds like Jake's back in Notting Hill! I'm getting dizzy...

Hi there TD :D Gotta say brown is my least favourite colour and I don't like it even on Jake. He does look great in black!

Hi Anon :) How do you know that, then?

Finally a (some what) reliable source re: where Jake is! I'm starting to think Twitter reports are about as reliable as In Touch Weekly reports! ;)

I love all the Zodiac stuff and will never get sick of the Zodiac at Cannes audio clip...I love Jake's description of the difference between Obsession and Passion and use it often when defending...I mean describing...myself! Hee Hee!

:-) :-) :-) :-)

Where are the pictures in Paris?! And proof of "back in London"?! This is exhausting...LOL!

Until later...xo

I'm so happy (i think) there hasn't been any pap pics of Jake for quite a while :) It's a break for him, he's been pestered relentlessly all year :( and i hope it doesn't get to him..but then again i do like to see what he's up to! A severe lack in film promotion goodies is making me want more papparazi pictures! Which is wrong..its a tough one..

S Darko..flippin heck..WHY?

This may sound lame..but can someone explain how you are finding out where Jake is by using twitter? I have made a twitter acount but thats as far as i got! Thanks :D xx

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi BBMISwear :-) I love, love an excuse to post anything Zodiac-related. And how good is it to hear Jake talking about passion - sigh..

It is exhausting trying to keep the search up! I can imagine Jake sitting back over his organic breakfast having a good laugh :D

Hey there Silver! It is frustrating - when there is no movie news, it's so good to have pictures. I agree it's nice for Jake to have a break from the paps - he's too good at eluding them when he's on his own! - but Jake! Take pity! One pic??? Ahem, sorry about that...

You don't need an account to search Twitter. Just open up Twitter and go to the search option which is right at the bottom and then put in every spelling of Gyllenhaal you can come up with!

Is it home time yet?

- What led you to accept this project (Zodiac)?
Jake Gyllenhaal - Obviously, the chance to work with David Fincher. Already did a while we were trying to do a film together. When this project came, he called me and I accepted at the time. At the time, the executives wanted a name more famous for the role, but David wanted me.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Monica :D I love that David wanted Jake to do this and that both of them wanted to work together. On the MTV special Jake explained that it was all because of Jennifer Aniston who had gone on and on to David about how wonderful Jake was. Of course, Jen knew David through then hubby Brad. I would love Jake and David to work together again. David is a big, big crush of mine! (As everyone might have noticed....)

Monica said...

The quote is from an interview I have with Jake: 10 questions for Jake Gyllenhaal.

Zodiac belonged to Sony, but she did not want the cast of David Fincher.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ooh, I don't suppose you could email me the article? wetdarkandwild@googlemail.com?

bertie said...

Very nice, Jake in Paris with family. Also a little bird twittered about Jake being back in London, and having breakfast with musician friends? Also very nice. :)

I hope Jake and David work together again soon too - maybe for Torso, if that ever comes up again?

Not sure about the sports biopics; however, I think Jake bears a great resemblance to a young Namath and that one could be good. :)

Monica said...

The article is online, but it's necessary to translate.
I ask for help for a friend or you know how to translate from Portuguese into English?

It's a very good interview. One of the best.
He talks about David Fincher, Zodiac, Theater, obsession, fame.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there Bertie! Musician friends, eh? Hopefully telling Jake that if he's doing Rock of Ages, he doesn't need a mullet! It's definitely about time we had more news on the Namath project :D

That would be so nice of you if you could have a go, Monica. Also do you have a link?

Anonymous said...

Oh please don't get me stared on Rock of Ages again. Jake singing Don't Stop Believin', Lights, or my guilty pleasure, Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'. Talk about passionate singing, IMO. Drive ya crazy. Come back, Steve Perry! ;)

Thanks for a Zodiac related post WDW:)

That's funny Sherrybaby is only getting it's French premiere now.

OT just heard on radio that Gemma Artherton got engaged over the weekend. Congrats to her

Hope everyone is having a good day:)

Sherry Baby had trouble finding a distributor in the states and only opened in very limited release before going straight to DVD. I would think it was even more obscure in Europe.

So, where is Jake now, lol! Where the Tweet is Jake! ;p

I do hope the Paris sighting with Maggie and Peter is true! Although, Skarsgaard?!?! Who knows but I hope we get some pics soon.

I just saw Rock of Ages and it was great. I don't want Jake in a mullet though...oy.

Have a good Monday everyone.

get real said...

Also, all those in London be on the lookout seems Jake may be back there again!

bertie said...

Oh, I still haven't seen SherryBaby yet and I really want to. No mullets for Jake (what about a modified one? ;) ), I agree. But Rock of Ages sounds really fun, and I think is a great idea for a musical - musical boy meets musical girl, etc. Every era has it's amusing clothes, hairstyles and trends, (how did we ever wear that stuff?) but it still sounds like a fun and loving, toungue-in-cheek tribute to the era. ;)

We have pics Wet Dark from Paris :))
Back to work plus i just read that Reese picking her wedding dress please let this be truth please..
Good day everyone my is definitely good one after seeing Jake...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there everyone! So happy to have new pics (new post :D).

Hi there Rock of Ages Anon! I can hear you singing from here :D

Hi Carol! I heard that about Gemma too - that's so lovely if it's true - she didn't hang around there :D I love doing Zodiac posts - I don't do enough of them.

Hey there 17:06 :) It didn't get a wide release at all - I was very pleased that I managed to see it in London, although I came out of it in dire need of some fortification - not a cheery movie.

You got your wish, Get Real! Now we just need the cameras to find Jake back in London. Good to hear you saw Rock of Ages. It's been too long since I saw a musical - Lion King was the last.

Hey there Bertie :D It does sound like fun, although the mullet is a terrifying concept for me - and the clothes... But it could be a real laugh for us and Jake.

Hi Flower :D The new pics are great!
