Remember the unforgettable Aqua Velva scene in Zodiac, when Jake's Robert Graysmith proudly announces to Robert's Paul Avery that the killer may be using a code named the Zodiac Alphabet? In his commentary to the film, David Fincher had this to say about that smile on Jake's face: 'I love that goofy smile that Jake has... sort of proud of himself but it doesn't look like he has a lot of control over his presentation of that - it seems very real!' Goofy smile - that's definitely one of the smiles Jake can draw on, and here are just a very few of the many others.

Lovely, lovely post! I can never get enough of that Bafta "Pinch me smile", Jake was so adorable that night. :) And what can I say about the "Come and get me smile" ? It is quite deadly!
I can't wait to see the "I swear to God, it's a true anecdote!" smile again, I miss it. And the "Cheesy grin " never fails to make me laugh. If I was Jake, I would of had this picture destroyed! :D

Oh how beautiful the sunny days! Even in a 'heatwave'. lol.
BTW, Jake was no. 44 in the SFX 'power poll' this month - apparently due to move up next year after PoP. Did you see it? They printed the 'startled' pic from the PoP set (still lovely) and said he was 'Donnie Darko's head on a bodybuilder's bod' or something.
That was I think only the second time they'd mentioned PoP. I'm not sure if they've decided how to 'deal' with Jake yet. They are such a stupid fanboy magazine nowadays.

And I loved the YouTube link you posted in the Peter post (Ugh, that movie sure looks scary... Reminded me a bit of The Omen). Such sweet and funny interviews from a younger Jake... I hope we will get to see that again...

You left out my favorite one, the aw-shucks smile when he was at some auction and opened a package from a fan. Sorry, I don't have any more details than that.
There was also an I'm-struggling-to-keep-my-eyes-open smile in late 2005, when he was wearing a blueberry-colored blazer and doing publicity interviews for "Brokeback Mountain."
Am I obsessed with his various different kinds of smiles? Not really, though a smile can be a powerful pick-me-up when aimed at someone who is exhausted and discouraged.
