Jake Gyllenhaal's triathlete credentials

This weeekend, a triathlon (the second largest in Britain) is taking place just down the road from me at Blenheim Palace - the home of Winston Churchill and clipped vowels. These pictures below were taken by me in past visits to the Palace because today it was chucking down with rain and, as they say, if you're watching someone swim, there's no point getting wet yourself.

As Jake Gyllenhaal is still doing his best to avoid every single camera in New York City - another kind of feat, I'm sure you'll agree - I thought I'd take a look at how Jake would excel as a triathlete, combining excellence in swimming, cycling and running. As someone who proudly walked out of the Beverly Center clad only in a pair of speedoes, Jake's swimming credentials are assured. But here's a reminder.

Incidentally and totally off topic, this reminds me of Peter Sarsgaard's story from the filming of Jarhead in Mexico, when he decided to take a swim in the hotel fountain even though Jake was right in the middle of a sentence. Jake had to remind Peter of the story because he can't remember it himself - margaritas can do that.

Jake's running prowess is also assured, judging by the number of running outfits he has, his Nike 'Thing' and his hunky trainers (and I'm not talking shoes). Jake has that greatly envied skill of being able to run up hills and down hills.

Talking of running up hills, Jake can also cycle up hills. And not just hills, an Alp! Back in 2006, Jake made it up the Alpe d'Huez. Nevertheless, Jake's recent 2009 biking excursions have attracted the attention of the Bike Snob who lambasted Jake for his pie plate. I have a bicycle, in fact I have two bicycles, but I thought a pie plate was a plate you ate pie off. I was comforted to discover this blog because I thought Mr WDW (who has five bicycles and four and a half motorbikes) was the only bike snob left. He is now an avid reader.

My conclusion: if any star was born to pop by here and go through his paces in the lakes and private, potholed roads of Blenheim, it's Jake Gyllenhaal.

"As Jake Gyllenhaal is still doing his best to avoid every single camera in New York City..."

Probably instructions from his "girlfriend".

Reese Witherspoon is in charge for planning photo opportunities.

Sigh... thanks for spoiling my fun post. Please take this elsewhere, ie a million miles from here.

Night to everyone else *)

Sorry for spoiling your fun.

Supporting and repeating PR lies won't turn them into truth.

Nothing will.

I just got back from the movies. One of the films being previewed was a horror movie called "Orphan." Peter Sarsgaard plays the father in it.

Anyway, the movie I went to see was called "Drag me to Hell," and it has Jusrin Long in it, as well as David Paymer, who was in "City Slickers" with Jake.

Maggie is also in a new movie. It's called "Away we go," and I want to see it, but it doesn't seem to be playing in my part of the country. :-(

Good morning!

Thanks for the pics of Blenheim Palace - reminding me of a wonderful weekend last year!!

And I love it how you always find a way to create a Jake post related to stuff like the Blenheim triathlon for instance!! Keep up the great work for us! What would we do without you?

Hm, I wonder if Jake is thinking about doing a triathlon one day... He sure can run and bike - the only thing we haven't seen him excessively doing is swimming... Apart from the proof you posted, LOL!

That pic of Jake in the pool always makes me smile, cause he reminds me of a seal! :D :D
I have to admit I always have to cringe a bit when I see that part of the interview with Jonathan Ross... Something feels kind of off to me... As if Jake wasn't his usual laid-back funny self as we know it from his other talk show appearances...

And thanks for the group photos from the race - you know why I love them! :)

Btw I am having the yummiest strawberries ever for breakfast!

Have a good Sunday!!

Morning!

Hi Paul :D I'm not usually into horror but I really want to see the Orphan. I wonder if it'll get a release here. Away We Go's on at the Edinburgh Film Festival in mid-June but that doesn't mean we'll get to see that one either :(

Thanks Uli! Oh yes, you went to Blenheim, didn't you? It is a lovely place. It was fun spotting it in the Young Victoria film. I really enjoy making events fit Jake.

Jake as a seal :DDD Had a good laugh at that one! I know why you like the Chilmar pics :D

have a lovely Sunday!

You're in Blenheim!!! How cool is that!

Why do I always associate Blenheim with Sir Winston Churchill? I know I should know, and I did know once, but I have to try to remember.

Hi Anon! Blenheim's just down the road from me. I used to live a few doors down from it :D Winston Churchill was born there - he was part of the Spencer-Churchill family that lived there (Dukes of Marlborough). Churchill's buried just round the corner in the little village church of Bladon, close to some of the other Churchill's including the amazing American heiress Consuelo Vanderbilt! Blenheim's beautiful - especially the gardens. Thanks for commenting!

Thank you, WDW!!! Of course he was born there!! And buried there. I used to know all that stuff. His mother Jenny Churchill was quite something. Wasn't she an American? Consuelo Vanderbilt was one of three sisters, one of whom was Anderson Cooper's grandmother, the mother of Gloria Vanderbilt!

Hi there! Those American heiresses were just extraordinary women, and quite a handful!
