Pirate Jake of Kensington and Maggie to open the Edinburgh Film Festival tonight

With big thanks to a London blogger, Jake Gyllenhaal and The Hat were seen yesterday playing pirates in Kensington Park. Not only that, there was a camera to hand. And, unless Jake has developed an interest in 16th-century rigging, it's quite possible that Jake was entertaining fellow pirate Ramona. Thanks Get Real!

That was yesterday - what about today? At about 9pm this evening, Maggie Gyllenhaal's new film Away We Go gets its British premiere on the opening night of the Edinburgh Film Festival. Maggie is one of the stars expected to walk the red carpet alongside Sam Mendes. I doubt that Jake will make an appearance but it is possible that he too will head north today to this amazing city.

Talking of film festivals and red carpets, a big thank you to Monica for discovering two videos from Brokeback Mountain's huge success at the Venice Film Festival in September 2005. It's a pleasure to include them here.

Includes pictures from IHJ and links.

Good night, wet dark!
I thought everyone had seen the videos!
You saw the photocall of the movie Proof?

I miss Heath every day!
I still have trouble seeing BBM. It's very painful!

CASTING CORNER : Casting forces for filmmaker Ed Zwick have been talking to candidates to play the father of Jake Gyllenhaal in Zwick’s “Love and Other Drugs” film also starring Anne Hathaway. The ideal actor should be between 55 and 60 years old and it couldn’t hurt if he has gorgeous blue-green eyes with long lashes like Jake’s. But anyway, the character is a doctor who disapproves of his son’s career as a pharmaceutical sales guy. Also being cast for the flick, which rolls in September, are his younger bother and mom.

Hi WDW - I don't think that was a LONDON blogger, far too many 'princesses' involved!, but huge thanks to him anyway. I love the fact that it was the Hat that gave JG away!

Do you think Jake has a bet going with Peter and Maggie that if he can avoid photos for so many days, he gets trusted with looking after Ramona while they're away? If so, Uh Oh, no wonder he flinched!

Thanks so much for this, I had so much fun reading all the links and I've never seen those videos before - my, Heath was a nervous fellow wasn't he? But Jake and Maggie are wonderful together.

I'm still carrying my camera around in case I spot him, but at 1.30pm, I'm afraid I'm working away in the office. Sigh.

Have a lovely evening!
TD

Hi there everyone!

Hi Monica :D I've seen one photocall for Proof. The BBM one here is slightly different from the BBM one I know so who knows with the Proof one!

I've been caught out with the Casting Corner :D That and something else were the subject for tonight's post until the Kensington picture and your vids took the lead. I've saved them for tomorrow instead.

Hi TD! Well, he was in London at the time and so that's good enough for me :D I'm so glad he had the camera and what a great shot! Good luck with the camera - Jake is still about here, I reckon :D I'm in London this weekend, so my eyes are peeled!

Waves to Monica :D

I hope evertone has a lovely evening :D

Glad you loved the sighting of Jake in London, WDW! Did you see the two up close pics of Jake at the same blog?

Cool that Maggie will be at the Edinburgh Film Fest. Wonder if Jake or Peter will show up. I thinking is no, but who knows.

Ooh thanks, Monica, I'll have a look at that :D

I did, Get Real, they're gorgeous! I don't think Jake will be on the Edinburgh red carppet (which is happening now!) but I do like to think of him seeing some of the other sites of Britain and Edinburgh is very special. Peter could be there though?

So sweet, I wonder if Miss Ramona was there with Jake? :) Nice to see him. Hooray for Maggie at the Edinburgh FF.

Wow, those photocalls aren't for the faint of heart, are they? :) I hadn't seen these before, nice to see Ang and his family too, and Heath was very endearing. Thanks, Monica!

Things seem to be moving ahead with LOD! That's quite a resemblance to Jake, in the twitter pic.

my, Heath was a nervous fellow wasn't he?

He was and also quite shy and complex. But he was also a nice and generous guy. Jake seemed very fond of him and Heath of him too, he made him godfather to his kid, which Jake said was a great honor. :)

Looking at Anne and Jake reminds me what a great looking couple they made in BBM. I'm actually really looking forward to their new movie together. :)

I don't think the hats suit Jake, but he's still an attractive guy. ;)

Morning everyone! Running around like a headless chicken..

Hi Silver! Indeed :D

Morning Bertie :D I know - those events look pretty scary. Maggie's said she's not so keen on them so it was nice for her to support ehr brother there :)

Hi there JakeFan :D It was lovely to watch Heath in this video. I love how he moves. Oh yes, Jake's attractive all right :D

Have a great day everyone!

WoooW So many videos!!!
Thank you :))
Heath wasn't that shy after all he was Aries.. once he said that he enjoy in acting but still hate to give interviews and do the photocall session.
I do agree that he was nice and generous guy.
Jake really loved him.. reason to believe is Jake silence.. he never give any statement after Heath death which means he is deeply hurt. Love him because of that..
Truly Heath friend one of rarest in Hollywood.
Have great day :))

I hope you're having a good day, Flower!

It would be interesting if Stephen Gyllenhaal played Jake in "Love and other drugs," but it wouldn't happen. Anyway, there are actors like Peter Gerety who have often plated doctors or judges in the past (in "Changeling," for instance). Whatever. :-/

I love the picture where Jake is pushing the little girl (Ramona?) on the swing. He seems to have a nice way with children.

Sorry, I meant "if Stephen Gyllenhaal played Jake's father..."

Hi Paul! I just can't see Stephen acting with Jake at all - I like that Jake is out there making his own way now :D That was indeed Ramona - it was so special to see those pictures!
