Dining out, drawing Jake and no more Donnie Darkos... EVER

Jake Gyllenhaal is a man with a mission - to continue his Dining with Jake Good Food Guide by dining out at every restaurant in Philadelphia. Last night, Jake and Reese were seen eating with Paul Rudd at the Marathon grill. The menu demonstrates that the cost of a three course meal at the Marathon will buy you a small piece of fruit in Oxford. Here you can see a tiny photo of the diners, showing that the Hat is Back.

Monday night was sushi night and the Hat got another outing. Jake and Reese were seen 'at Morimoto on Chestnut Street. Gyllenhaal kept his hat on through a two-hour meal that started with a beer flight for him and a glass of wine for Witherspoon. Then they went maki-wild, sharing spicy tuna maki, California maki, spicy salmon maki and yellowtail maki before segueing into sake sashimi, hotate sashimi, and saba sashimi. And a side of rice.' It's a well-known and oft-repeated truism that you can never have enough maki. One glance at the website reveals intriguing furniture.

As for tonight - can I recommend fish, chips, mushy peas, a pineapple fritter and a pint of best.

Comic-Con continued

Comic-Con may be over but more details are emerging about the Prince of Persia graphic novel panel: Artist 'Stewart said that he was assured from the beginning by editor Nachie Castro that this book wouldn’t be a typical movie tie-in. “I asked Nachie, ‘Is this going to be micro-managed? Does every drawing have to look like Jake Gyllenhaal?’ He said no. One of things interesting is there are all these different artists with different interpretations. I think that’s cool, it’s going to make it very different than a typical movie tie-in.”'

'He said no'! I shake my head in bewilderment at Disney missing the point - of course every picture should look like Jake Gyllenhaal, and a good 50% should also include a water feature.

The movie itself didn't make much of an appearance at Comic-Con - bar some mini figures and a random ostrich. Disney's Head of Production, Oren Aviv, was asked why: '"Prince of Persia" just didn't have the effects done, so to bring stuff that wasn't quite ready, we just all agreed, "Let's wait until we're ready and then when we've got the stuff, let's show it." I think in both cases [referring also to the Sorcerer's Apprentice], I think your instinct is right is my belief, I think this stuff is so cool, but it's unfinished, so we didn't want to risk showing it here or anywhere else until it's ready."

However, there is much more chance of a showing next month at Disney's Expo D23: 'D23 members will also get advance looks at two spectacular live-action fantasy films from Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films — Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (with Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Atherton) and The Sorcerer's Apprentice (starring Nicolas Cage).'

And finally...

'MTV News got a chance to sit down with Kelly and find whether there is any truth to that. "Absolutely not," he said. "I know nothing about it and I would never have any involvement with any existing or future sequel to 'Donnie Darko' ever—ever!" And to make it absolutely clear, he added: "Never ever ever ever would I be involved with anything like that."

So, is that a no?

Happy birthday Stephanie!

Good suggestion

I will only see the trailers of POP. I don't want to see those videos with snippets of the film.

"Never ever ever ever would I be involved with anything like that."
These continuations should be banned!

Night Monica :D I think you can tell I was hungry when I wrote this post - and I'm on a diet. A sure way to crave fish and chips... Jake'd love my local chippie :D

I think we could get PoP trailers at D23 but I don't think there'll be more than that. I doubt any more of it is ready. But I'll take anything!

I totally agree with you about Donnie Darko. Sounds like Richard didn't care for the 'sequel'. Not surprisingly.

Hi Wet Dark! :) Nice post.
I'm in need of some new pics of Jake, it seems like forever, but i suppose that 2cmx2cm of the side of his head will have to do *sigh*

I wonder when reese will finish filming..

I dont think ive ever seen that picture of jake through the blinds..the very last one..where is that from :)?

Hi Silver! I know, it's a teeny pic but it's a goodie. I really want to see Jake with Owen Wilson. I think, but I'm probably wrong, that Reese finishes filming in October.

The pic of Richard and Jake is from a magazine. I can't remember which one at the moment. I'll take a look. Thanks for commenting :D

Have a good day everyone! The place has been invaded with flying ants... :/

"...showing that the Hat is Back." Don't scare me like that! I thought you meant "The Hat". Phiew!" :)

I'm glad Richard Kelly will not do a DD sequel. What would be the point anyway? DD is perfect on it's own. I should find the time to rewatch it, it's been a while.

Good grief! First a scorpion, now flying ants?! You sure work in a fun place! :D

Hi Olympia! Phew, not THe Hat, just The Hat :D I quite miss the beanies. I want some proper pics!!! I'd like to see DDarko again soon too.

I suppose that at least now the scorpion has something to eat... We've had some big storms here today - lots of rain, thunder and lightning. I wouldn't be surprised if it starts raining fish or frogs :(

What is all this about a straight-to-DVD sequel to "Donny Darko?" Is it a true sequel, or just a director's cut of the original? And how do you do a sequel of a film in which the title character dies at the end? Unless you except "Weekend at Bernie's," in which the title character stayed dead but had a voodoo curse put on him that made him very interesting. ;-)

For what it's worth, IMDB.com does not list any sequels in the works.

Hi Paul! The so-called 'sequel' was S.Darko about Donnie's sister. This went straight to DVD in the UK at least. Richard is at pains to make sure we know he had nothing to do with this. Apparently, S. Darko was awful. The Bernie film sounds very peculiar!

Has anyone seen orphan yet? I'm too scared.

I love that teeny pic of Jake, Reese and Paul Rudd.

No wonder Richard was at pains to distance himself lfrom S Darko. That movie is awful. I only watched it to see what Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl was doing in it. Instead of being straight to DVD it should have been straight to the bin:( I haven't felt that strongly against a movie since that Walk the line spoof that John C Reilly was in.

That Disney expo looks promising for a trailer or more glimpses of the prince:)

I am gearing myself up to see Orphan over the weekend. Horror is not my thing and from the trailer I've seen that little girl looks pretty scary!

Hi Carol! Interesting to get your view of S Darko - I know of noone else who's seen it. I've seen it in the DVD shop and I just can't bear to rent it. I'll steer well clear.

Good luck with Orphan! Let me know if I should be brave :D

I had been meaning to see "Orphan," but the theaters showing it are just too far away! Last night I went to the nearest theater, which was showing "500 Days of Summer," which is full of actors who have links to Jake. Zooey Deschanel was with Jake in "The Good Girl.," and there are actors who were in "Bubble Boy" and "Lovely and Amazing."

Hopefully I will see "Orphan" eventually. Peter Sarsgaard (or is it Saarsgard? I can't remember!) usually puts in great performances no matter what.
