Jerry Bruckheimer gave Disney fans at Expo D23 a trailer of the Prince of Persia on Friday. He said it was incomplete but, despite that, the initial reaction is that the trailer, when it finally reaches the theatres, will be well worth the wait. We have action, we have thrills, we have snakes, we even have tigers (still no ostriches or camels but I live in perpetual hope), we have repartee and innuendo between Jake Gyllenhaal's Prince and Gemma Arterton's Tamina. Thanks to IGN for the thorough description. Let's hope we get to see it!
Here is what IGN says: 'A slice of light tears through the darkness, dissolving into grains of sand, blown away by the desert wind... A sweeping landscape of a far-off Persian city. A wind-beaten caravan making its way through the orange-lit desert. Dark, swirling clouds gather in the distance... A shot of the dagger. A long, curved blade. It's hand is clear, like an hour-glass, holding the titled Sands of Time... A shot of Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince, standing on a wooden outcropping on the roof of a palace high above the city streets. This looks more like Assassin's Creed than Prince of Persia...'
'Narration by the Princess Tamina, played by Gemma Arterton. Some comic exchanges as they gallop along on horseback. Typical love-hate relationship... A chase through the alleys of a Persian city...An attacking tiger...A snake leaps toward the Prince, but the dagger pauses time just before the snake's gaping, venomous jaws can strike... A journey into the snow-capped mountains. Not just deserts, it seems... The Prince climbing up the towering, exterior walls of a castle as archers fire arrows... Shots of a villainous Ben Kingsley and hints of a more powerful, robe-cloaked demon controlling him.'
'Lastly, the Prince and Tamina enter a vast, underground tomb. It begins to crumble down around them, the high hallways collapsing, entire portions of the building tumbling down an incline as the Prince leaps and runs and ducks and rolls as audiences would, of course, expect. Overall, the trailer was beautifully shot, atmospheric, action-packed and exactly what one would hope from a Prince of Persia film.'
I cannot wait to see our leaping, running, ducking, rolling Prince and that is some understatement.
Meanwhile... Tweets continue of sightings of Jake in Pittsburgh and of theatres decked out in Prince of Persia posters!
Named Moon Project - the stresses of prelaunch
The Unnamed Moon Project appears to now be a possibly Named Moon Project - Moon. Doug Liman has again been blogging to the Ninjas about his project, which, it appears, may have gone past that safe point of no return. It may be Good to Go. But Doug sounds as if he is in that jittery stage we all face when something for which we care may soon fly free:
'I feel it’s within my control whether or not we make the Moon movie. It’s at that point where if the project doesn’t go it means either I messed something up or I’m choosing not to do it right now. But everything is sort of falling into place. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fickle business and anything can happen. Brad Pitt could announce tomorrow that he’s doing a Moon project (but you wouldn’t do that to me, would you Brad?) and suddenly someone beat us to the punch, or I could lose my star. What I don’t think will happen is a stalled project, and that’s because of the script. It’s crossed the critical threshold.'
It's revealing stuff and it is clear that the film still does not have a budget: 'There are action figures they can do to tie in with the film, there are video games — all this shit that studios need to justify and pay their overhead. All that ancillary stuff, the kind of stuff that The Bourne Identity could never generate and Fair Game could never generate. Look, I recognize that studios are businesses and they need to make money, and Paramount can make a ton of money on my Moon project, so that’s why it’s up to me to decide when this project is ready. As much as they have to greenlight my movie and agree to spend $100 million, I know that the carrot I’m dangling in front of them is ridiculously commercial — but I need to decide when it’s ready, when I can deliver a movie that’s worth it.'
'This movie will redefine action the way The Matrix redefined action. In Moon, they’re fighting in one-sixth gravity. You’ve just never seen that before. Ever. And you’ve never seen a car chase in one-sixth gravity, you’ve never seen fights in one-sixth gravity. It won’t look like any other movie. This affects the movie is so many ways. It’s all of the amazing things you can do once you embrace one-sixth gravity. You know, you’re literally Superman on the Moon.... Earth has six times the gravity of the Moon, so if you take anyone from Earth and move him to the Moon, he literally is a Superman. He can leap off an 80-foot cliff and survive easily. On the Moon, we can can have a real-version bullet time (from The Matrix). Our action sequences on Moon are as outrageous as Transformers or Star Trek but will be 100 percent real. Bourne is to the James Bond films as Moon will be to Transformers. Outrageous, but very real.' It sounds like Jake has quite a ride ahead of him - fingers crossed. I'm ignoring the Transformers comparison.

I want to see the trailer for POP so bad right now! I hope we know in advance before which movie it will be presented, I would look like a crazy person squeeing loudly in my seat if I stumbled upon it by accident. The movie sounds better and better and I can`t wait to see some "repartee and innuendo" mixed with the action. Jake is so good at that. :)
Car chases on the moon? "Outrageous, but very real"? Sounds very intriguing. Did Doug say they could do action figures for Moon? *sigh* I guess I'll clear out another shelf for that stuff too. You know, being a gyllenhaalic is getting more expensive by the minute! :D I just bought a BBM poster mounted on wood, it's magnificent.
I hope everyone's having a great week-end!
Olympia
Hooray! Snakes and tigers and innuendo. Both films sound very exciting and fun, and a little romance too. Can't wait!
Bertie
Love this Olympia: "being a gyllenhaalic is getting more expensive by the minute!" - so true!
I'm playing catch up again as RL takes it's toll but nothing relieves stress more than reading posts and comments on WDW so I've caught up and am smiling about so much I have read here!
Another long BBMISwear comment so you may want to just move along...LOL! I know WDW will read my rambling at least...ha ha!
First, this PoP stuff is so exciting and starting to film again FINALLY...and with Anne...oh how happy the two of them together makes me! The Moon stuff too! I have to say that although I am excited for these new things for Jake it is truly Brothers I am the most excited about. The genre of Brothers is, personally, my type of movie. I guess that makes sense since BBM and MM are my favorite Jake movies...see a trend?! Drama, romance, angst, etc. But, yeah, I'll watch him jump and roll and fight and buy all the toys that come from it all! (Putting up shelves like some others here)!
I laughed out loud at the comments mentioning people's reactions to meeting Jake (except Paul of course - you lucky man)! I'm sorry I laughed at all your ailments while being near Jake, WDW, but it's so easy to picture! Those who knows my story know I said "I think I'm gonna puke" more times than I can count when my meeting with Jake was approaching. Not so much when I was actually with him (which I can thank only him for because that guy can make a person feel comfortable within 2 minutes of being with him). My biggest ailment was losing all my stuff less than 24 hours before meeting one of the most important people I would ever want to meet. Words cannot describe that kind of stress.
Mop Top Jake is absolutely adorable to me and MM will always be one of my favorites. Oh those pictures WDW! That Bench! The Memories! The behind the scenes pictures on the street with the houses (the one site we could not do because we ran out of time). Well, we have a new place to go to next time I guess!
I have to note that the recent pictures of Jake that have been posted are gorgeous. That man is Lookin' Good! :-) And I have to say (I hope Paul is listening) that I love Paul's "connections to Jake" reports with every movie he sees. Even the non-connection with I.B. - except maybe Paris - LOL!
That BBM article a few days back...wonderful. Thank you WDW, you made my night with that one. So many comments about Jake and Heath and Jake possibly being asked about Heath in interviews soon. I have so much to say about this but I won't dare get into it now. This comment is long enough already. So if the topic comes up again I'd love to discuss some of this stuff with y'all who are interested.
I will ask one thing that crossed my mind, though...what is it with Anoms? It seems there are a lot of people that have a lot to say but they don't want to tell us who they are. That is everyone's right, I guess, but if someone is a big fan of Jake's (or BBM or whatever) why not be proud of it and say who you are? I'm not saying there is a right way or a wrong way...I'm really just curious about it. Maybe an Anom or two can tell us why they are Anoms and don't say who they are? Do they ever give a name when posting on line or is it just here? Just curious!
Before I forget...the clothing posts were great! The Jeans! The comments about Plaid! As a person who grew up in New England in the 70's it was what we ALL wore! And all these years later I spend a lot of time in Maine and they never stopped wearing it up there...LOL! So I just love Jake in Plaid!
Oh...one last thing, I Swear! As far as a white t-shirt post goes...I'm so ready for another one of those WDW! I'm not sure if you included my FAVORITE white t-shirt picture in your last one but I'd be happy to send it to you if you'd like. :-)
Thanks for listening (probably only WDW is)! I will be reading even if not commenting (this blog is my stress-reliever...can't live without it)!
Hugs, Lisa/BBMISwear
Hello everyone! It's taken me forever to get on line today - I have been sitting on the motorway in traffic for hours, along with thousands of Chelsea supporters... But it's a beautiful day. I have driving sunburn.
Hey Olympia! I want to see it so so hard too! I really worry about how I'll react if I ever saw it unexpectedly, and then seeing the film itself. What if I hyperventilate and pass out??
Car chases on the moon - hmmm, like to see that :D Yep, action figures. Who needs possessions and belongings when you can fill your home with mini Jakes and mini ostriches?
Your poster sounds amazing :) I hope you're having a great weekend too.
Hi Bertie! They do sound great! And I love a film with tigers even when it's set in a place where I think tigers would have been a bit thin on the ground...
Hey BBMISwear!! :-) I drank an entire venti skinny latte with extra shot reading that comment :D It's so good to see you after your busy week xx
I know how Brothers is the one you're waiting for but it's so great how excited we all are for our action Jake. I can't wait to see the Green Room with its extra shelves for Jake and ostrich lego. And camels. Don't forget the camels :D
When I wrote about my GyllenAilments, I was definitly thinking of you your vomiting Jake impulse! I totally empathise. And I don't blame you not eating! Who'd want to waste time eating when they can look at and speak to Jake? And how you lost all your clothes/ Terrible! But it gave you that Target link with jake, and a bit of t-shirt stroking :D
I love anyone taking the time to comment and I love it when anons come back and they pick a name! That's such a big thrill to me. One such anon is now one of my very good friends :)
Plaid... ugh :DD !
I think I know which of those white t-shirt shots is your fave! I think I could definitely be persuaded to do another :-)
Thanks so much for finding the time for that whapper!
I hope everyone's having a great weekend. It's really lovely and warm here. And now I've even finished driving :D
Fighting on the moon? Who are the going to be throwing punches at? Klingons? Vogons? Le Petit Prince? lol Glad Jake has several projects in the pipeline. It's been a long dry period with him. Lots of movie goers are beginning to wonder whatever-happened-to-that-guy.
I'm jonesin' for that PoP trailer, too.
Hi JoeAnn! I'm hoping for so much Jake in the theatres next year everytone will have forgotten the GyllenDrought! I'm looking forward to some moon fighting too :D
I've just finished watching Moonlight Mile with my mum - amazing seeing all these places that I've just been too, and mum istened with exemplary patience :)
Hope everyone's having a lovely Sunday :D
*waves at WDW and Lisa*
You lucky ladies, I wish I'd been there with you on your recent trip!
I can't wait to see a glimpse of the Prince in action!
Sorry for the lame comment, but when I'm excited my brain cells function even less than normal :)
Hugs
Paola
sounds like Jerry didn't get a complete trailer ready but he knew how to whet everyone's whistle. Always make them beg for more, as they say and it sounds like he did just that.
I'm sure we'll be seeing that trailer in the theaters soon (maybe Xmas?)
So Doug Liman is on the fence as to whether his moon project movie is ready to be made. I heard Jake would be producing it, or co producing it? I'd read something about maybe starting to film in Jan. But like he said the business is fickle. You hear all kinds of tidbits about movies, shooting schedules and you have to scratch your head when you see an actor (who was filming a movie and was supposted to be filming it till such and such a date) being photographed by the paps in LA let's say. Meaning their shoots were done.
Well at least we have Brothers too look forward to in Dec (though I am wondering why Jim Sheridan didn't put this movie in any FF I am going to assume we should see some publicity for it soon (hopefully a long awaited mag article from Jake)
I hope you all are having a great weekend
sweetpea
I didn't know Jake was going to have an ENGLISH accent in the price of persia!? Either i'm being really niave..or somthing, but i thought he would have had a PERSIAN accent..
I read this on a link about someone who had seeen the clip of POP. Im suprised
Paola! Good to see you :D Jake and that sexy Prince of Persia dows that to me too. Next summer we must arrange a joint viewing of PoP so that we can support one another! I'm so glad you enjoyed our trip. Watching Moonlight Mile this evening brought it all back - very happy memories :)
Hi Sweetpea :) Jerry definitely left me wanting more. Sounds amazing.
Your probably read those things here as I had a feature here a short time ago about Jake being the producer of the Moon Project and how filming was hoping to begin early 2010. This was based on Doug's blog. It sounds like things are moving along but this project is so close to Doug's heart that it comes with these jitters. It must be so stressful! But when it all comes together...
I cannot wait for Brothers and whatever it brings publicity wise. It'll be amazing!
Hi Anon :D The game character Dastan is based on has an English accent and most of the other characters in the movie are English so I wasn't surprised to hear Jake would have to learn the accent. I rememer an article from last year about how Jake was immersing himself in communicating with the English crew to get the accent right and how he had a coach. I can't wait to hear how it sounds! Although I get nervous that it won't be believable for me. This film is very much about the atmosphere of the computer game and has very little to do with medieval persia (hence it has tigers! - and ostriches). Can't wait :D
I'm very anxious to see this trailer. But I hope have scenes involving parkour!
I like the british accent. I love the sound!
I need to talk: My Ewan was so great in Venice and Toronto! He's so beautiful, talented and smart!
BBMIswear, I misunderstood WDW's point about being sick when one meets Jake. I thought it was a metaphor or a topical reference to the flu that is going around. I didn't think actual physical nausea caused by nervousness was what was being discussed. Sorry.
I like English accents a lot. I also like Australian accents. We have both kinds around here.
WDW, I can forgive you for not liking plaids, but I feel protective of Scottish heritage, as I have ancestors from that country. In any event, if you want to be in style with the latest trends this Fall, you can avoid plaids. Cobalt blue is also going to be in fashion, so if you like that, it will do fine for you. Where scarves are concerned, I have to have plaid, but that's just me.
I rem. Jake talking about when he was a kid and to get attention in the family he would do accents.
And then too he has done different American accents, "October Sky" - BBM.
Seems to have a talent for that and if the people on the set would forget he was American.
Don't see anything that would point to the fact he wouldn't be good at the English accent.
Good morning everyone!
Yeay for Ewan, Monica! I know how you love him. When I get hom today, I'll have to see what he's been up to. I love TIFF. So much going on. I've been watching Peter and Carey there on the net. It sounds like there is some parkour in this trailer - can't wait to see it.
Hi Paul! Well, with me I tend to get both - illness brought on by nervousness and the stress of 'will he, won't he be there?' and then this makes me susceptible to every bug going! Can it be a coincidence I came down with Chicken Pox actually on Zodiac Day at Cannes? Surely not :D Makes me treasure the scars!
I forgive plaid in a Scottish and Irish context - or even a scarf :D I realise that it big of me! Fortunately I love cobalt blue :D
Hi Anon! Jake is definitely gifted at doing accents and hopefully his English accent is as good as the others. I only worry because of the type of accent - there are quite a few to choose from and some sound 'staged' and stereotypical. When I heard Peter speak with his English accent, it completely threw me! But I can't wait to hear how Jake sounds speaking in my own mother tongue :D
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone! I'm about to hit the road and head south again. Hopefully, the victorious Chelsea fans have already made it home...
Tigers! Trailers hmmmm hhmmmm!
Think that's it. Whenever you hear someone speak differently than you're use to hearing them it does take you back right off.
The interview on ET where he does a bit of the accent for the interviewer and she says - that's good - or something like that.
Don't feel it's going to be so different it will sound wrong in the movie. I think the people making the movie would of noticed if it was.
Jake is in New York:

Have a great sunday, my friends!
Hi everyone! Made it home :D
Hey TD! I like a trailer with tigers... I'm holding out for the ostrich though.
Hi Anon :D It is very strange when you get used to how an actor sounds and then they open their mouth and something quite unexpected comes out! That was such a tiny snippet for ET. I'm looking forward to hearing more.
Hey Monica! I've been following tweets of Jake in NYC - great to see a pic!
New post catching up with everything. It's good to be back home :D
