The Jake Gyllenhaal Guide to Eating your Way to PoP Abs

It may not have escaped your attention but Jake Gyllenhaal looks a tad hot and sexy and buffed in Prince of Persia (not just Prince of Persia either but that is the current hot potato Jake movie). Should it not be sufficient for you simply to watch and enjoy Jake's incredible athletic body leaping, twisting and contorting itself into all kinds of baddie-escaping and sword- and snake-dodging manouevres, you too can get the look. Unfortunately, it will take a lot more than a bit of leather strapping, some attractive scarves and a big black horse, as can be seen in the current Mens Fitness magazine. In this, Jake's trainer Simon Waterson tells us a bit about what Jake did to look like this:

'Get warrior abs: ‘We did a lot of core work to build the stability Jake needed to wield a sword,’ explains Waterson. ‘This involved a high number of reps to help build muscular strength and endurance.’ [And in the article, you can see some of the reps to try out at home]

'Eat like a Prince: 'Eating little and often is the key to building muscle and staying lean,’ says Waterson. ‘Jake ate very healthily and didn’t have the fast-food mentality. We gave him lots of salads, vegetables and lean meat to keep his blood sugar levels stable throughout the day. A good formula for building muscle is to eat around 2g of protein per kilogram of bodyweight, and drink lots of water throughout the day.’'

'4.45am Pre-workout snack:
Espresso and banana

7am Post-workout breakfast:
Egg white omelette on rye bread

9am Early morning snack:
Protein shake

11am Mid-morning snack:
Apple or banana and handful of almonds and raisins

1pm Lunch:
Two chicken breasts with a huge salad of avocado, broccoli and other dark green leaves and veg

3pm Mid-afternoon snack:
Protein shake

7pm Dinner:
Steak with steamed veg or grilled chicken with couscous'

While I note with pleasure that no artichokes feature in this 'menu', I can see a little that my diet does differ. Apart from the espresso at 4.45 am which, if you have to be awake at that time in the morning, sounds like a necessity rather than an option. My diet, which will give you the physique of an office dweller in no time at all, is based on the rule of eating a lot and often. I have also replaced the nibbling on nuts and raisins with chomping on jaffa cakes. For the evenings, a pint of real ale is a good substitute for a protein shake. As a veggie, I have subtley tweaked the chicken breast and salad lunch into a veggieburger and chips. In no time at all you'll see the results.

Long, long, long ago, Simon talked to us a little more about Jake's training and eating regime. You can read more about that here.

ET clearly approve of Jake's Prince of Persia regime because today they have charted his decade of hotness. Jake's transformation is documented in this post with some fabulous new stills and set shots from Disney - via with many, many thanks IHJ.

And finally...

Completely accidentally no doubt... the release of the film in May is coinciding with the development of a new Prince of Persia game for the iPhone and iTouch. We got our first look today at something I must and will have. My PoP submersion continues...

I really like the first pic, you can see all of the costume's details. And none of the hair! :DD

The ET decade of Jake hotness was interesting but I wouldn't say every picture they chose is hot (especially not those from 2001!). The ones with Maggie are great and the most gorgeous is the one with Heath at the Directors Guild of America Awards. God they made a handsome pair... What chance did we have of not falling in love with Jack and Ennis?

In my opinion they're missing two of the hottest Jakes: Bafta 2006 and Sag Awards of the same year. 2006 was an excellent year of Jake hotness!

Hi Olympia! I love that first pic, absolutely love it - sigh... yeah, missing hair! But the PoP hair has grown on me (in a manner of speaking).

I've gotta say that I have no idea why they picked most of those pics on ET when you consider what they could have chosen. And much as I have always loved Jake as an actor, it's in the last few years (since TDAT) that he's come into his own, hotness wise, for me :) 2006 was an excellent year! And I must say that 2010 is shaping up to be not too bad :D

Hahaha! I love your variation of the diet WDW!

If we're talking about a certain time Jake was very hot then i think i'd have to say 2004. Even though i wasn't a fan of him then, looking back over the pics. yum. Think - 2004 independent spirit awards, sag awards and MTV movie awards! :D

Then 2006 was hot and 2010 is shaping up pretty well :)

Of course 24 year old Jake probably appeals to me more because i am only 17 :) But hey, 29 is fine.

Thanks, Silver, glad you like it! It's taken years of refinement :D

I have to agree - 2004 was an amazing year for Jake. He really grew into his beauty that year and he found that confidence... sigh.

I'm almost 17 too! :DD

Well, I haven't been 17 years old in a while but Jake often makes me feel (and act) younger than I am. And I love it! :D

Me too, Olympia! I've been stuck on age 29 for a few years now (ahem) and I'm really glad that Jake has caught me up at last!

LOL WDW :P I sometimes feel quite young for a Jake fan. Just the general idea from IHJ/bogs/forums etc. I think the majority of his fans are a little bit (just a tinsy bit) older than me, but i could be wrong. I think POP will probably bring a whole fresh herd (correct collective term?) of screaming teen girls following him. I'll be two steps ahead though..claiming "I FOUND HIM FIRST" :D

"I FOUND HIM FIRST" LOL Silver! I know what you mean. We should put that on a T-shirt with Jake's picture. :DD

Hi Silver! I think Jake has a lot of very slightly older fans (:D) because he's made a few R rated movies lately. This is the first family movie and one that could get the young girls. I've always liked that Jake attracts the older fan as well as the younger. There's a lot to him.

We should Olympia! I can hardly believe how many years it's been - and it's WDW's 3rd anniversary this weekend! Someone needs to get cake!!

3 years already!? We'll have to celebrate. I vote for a chocolate cake! Jake can cook but can he bake? I wasn't very impressed with his Starbust concoction on Helen...

Morning all!

Hi Olympia! Chocolate cake would be wonderful - and also it's perfectly fitting for my diet regime :D I think we should give Jake the benefit of the doubt and lete him have a go...

Have a good day everyone!
