Jake Gyllenhaal talks about turning 30 and deciding what he wants to do (new PoP interviews)

Just one day to go until the star-studded premiere of Prince of Persia in Los Angeles. You will be able to see it livestreamed on WDW so do tune in for that. Jake Gyllenhaal and the other stars are due to arrive at 6pm local time. In the meantime, here is a brief look at some of the new bits and pieces to enjoy today - a week on from the London premiere.

I wrote my (non-spoilery) review of Prince of Persia over the weekend - if you haven't seen it yet, you can find it here.

We have a wonderful new interview with Jake, this time in the Irish Independent, in which he's in a thoughtful and relaxed mood. Here are a few choice bits, you can read much more here. "The appeal of playing this part for me was feeling that eight-year-old side of myself. I didn't really get the chance to in Brothers or Jarhead or Brokeback Mountain. I don't really think they were for eight-year-olds. This was really an opportunity to go to that side of myself which I felt was a little tired of taking myself so seriously."

"There is a bigger crew, a bigger movie, more journalists, more interviews, but answering questions about my personal life is still my choice, no matter how many questions come I still have an opportunity to decide whether I'm going to answer them."

"In my life right now I feel much more open and for the first time I feel like, 'This is my job.' It's what I do and it's what I love. My job requires certain things of me and there's no complaining involved. Previously I had ideas of what I thought an actor was supposed to do.

"At a certain point I went, 'Wait a second, I'm not really listening to myself. I'm doing something that I think people are supposed to do but what do I really enjoy?' Let me experience it and decide for myself before I start assuming one thing is cool and another thing is not."

"One of the things which got me into this movie was I went, 'This is really fun.' The younger version of me would have been, 'Oh no, I'm only going to do this movie with that person' or 'It's going to be about that and it's going to be tortured.' As I get a little older I'm like, 'You know what? I want to have fun.' I don't really take myself as seriously anymore and as I've opened myself up to those things I've realised this is an amazing job."

'Part of that realisation may come with age. He will be 30 in October [we know it's December] and regards that event as a "crossroads". "I feel honoured because I think life is precious and the more years you get you actually begin to learn. I feel that at 29 going into 30 I now have perspective behind me and in front of me. Whereas before I could only see in front of me. Now I'm like 'Oh, wow. Regret!' It feels like a big thing. They say in Ouarzazate [one of the Moroccan locations for Prince of Persia] it is the Gate of the Sahara. It feels a little bit like that in my life, like I'm entering a new gate."

'So, as he approaches his fourth decade, does he feel he has achieved the things he thought he would achieve when he was 20? "I didn't ever think I was going to be 30 when I was 20." What about 10 years from now? What are his aims for then? "I'm never going to be 40."'

Great to see another interview with this young chap - and Jake's not bad either...

Jake made someone's day with a wave in the Hollywood Hills this weekend - tomorrow many more will get to know what that's like!

Many thanks to IHJ for the pictures.

Hi!!! Just a quick fly by and sign of life from me... OMG, I had 4 days off work - that would have been perfect for watching and reading Jake stuff, Jake stuff and err, Jake stuff from PoP...
But I had my mum visiting and was in a way glad to realize that I can somehow still manage to live without being online... Although it is pretty hard these days with knowing about all the Jake goodness here :D :D
And tomorrow it is back to the treadmill with no unlimited internet access. So I will just have to survive 4 more days till I can finally enjoy all the interviews and all the other good stuff you have here for us, WDW! I will just have to trust that everything will still be there and try to be not too scared because by next week Friday there will probably be even more! :D :D
My head will explode while trying to figure out where to start!!

I wish everybody a good start into PoP week!!!!

Good to see you, Uli! It's been a mum's weekend here too :D Have a good week and catch up next weekend - I have 3 days off especially. Don't worry about things being gone - I have it all saved. Have a good week!

I hope everyone's having a good Sunday. I've burned my thumb so I'm a bit like a bear with a sore head (thumb)!

Thanks for the update WDW! The family had things they were doing that did not include me today so I took advantage of the free time and have been watching PoP videos of interviews and premiere coverage on and off all day long - what a way to spend a quiet Sunday! This has been great! I know a lot of people here are talking about catching up and let me tell you it is so worth it when you can finally carve out the time to do so!! I'm not all the way there yet but I'm pretty damn close. Now, the articles...that's another story. My printer is working over time and I'm sure I'll spend the week reading every single word. What a wild PoP whirlwind it's been!

I am looking so forward to the American talk shows but the schedule is a bit odd. Something has got to be being taped in advance (possibly JKL) as it's doubtful they'd have him in NYC on Monday, LA on Tuesday and back to NYC on Wednesday. Most of these shows typically tape early evening of the night they air but sometimes they're done in advance so this may be the case. Either way the DVR will be set and I am very thankful for the Mother's Day gift I demanded...ummmm, I mean asked nicely for this year: A new DVD player/recorder (to replace the one I wore out...ummmm, I mean the one that strangely died)!

Have a good start of the week everyone...until next time...

Hello Everyone!

I'm gonna be sleepy at work next week. I don't have a way to record late shows so I will be staying up Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to see Jake! I'm trying to get Letterman tickets for Monday but I usually don't have much luck with things like that.

Can't wait for all the LA Premiere stuff tomorrow :-D

Thank you WDW. the countdown is on till the 28th. I will be sure to watch the livestresm but I probably will have to wait until later. It will be on a 9pm my time and I'll be watching Dancing with the Stars at that time.

Yeah I know how COULD you. well we're at the end and I gotta watch (just like I gotta watch POP when it comes out) That's the beauty of the internet. If I miss something I can usually see it at a later time.

Morning all! Back at work but my thoughts are a long way a way westbound! PoP LA day - and I think it's really cool that Jake will be there when Jerry does his hand print thing.

Hi TD! welcome back - sorry the ashcloud didn't keep you in the sun a bit longer... enjoy the catchup!

Thanks for that, Amy! Great stuff :D I do wish Ellen was on the list as well but so good to see such busy schedule.

That sounds like an amazing way to spend Sunday, BBMISwear :-) I spent most of Sunday afternoon backing up PoP files, burning myself on the cooker and having a battle with ants. I've not caught up with the articles yet and I still haven't seen some of the videos. I watched the three Behind the scenes vides and thought they were amazing (quite spoilery though...).

Agreed about the schedule. Could Kimmell be prerecorded?

Good luck with getting tickets, Leslie! well worth having a go :D

Hi Sweetpea - sorry I must be having a senile moment because for a moment there I thought you said you were missing watching the livestreaming of the PoP LA premiere in order to watch a dancing programme?? I'll have to get my hearing tested :D

Have a great day everyone!

Just wondering what time the LA premiere is being streamed tonight in this part of the world and more importantly does it get repeated.

I also found another article from the Irish Examiner about Jake over the weekend. I don't think there was anything that we haven't heard already on it but I will try and get a scan of it to you WDW over the next few days.

Hi Carol! That'd be great, thank you! I do enjoy these interviews with Irish papers. A scan would be lovely :)

If the stars arrive about 5pm LA time, that's 1am here - ouch. I imagine it'll be similar to the UK streaming, with highlights that you can watch later. Not the same thing at all but so much better than nothing :)

I'm looking forward to pure escapist entertainment when "Prince of Persia" arrives here. Thanks for the great links, WDW.

Avoiding work by looking at stuff on the internet instead (bad me)! Re: the U.S. talk shows - I also thought that JKL would be the one that makes sense to record in advance as the other 3 are all in New York but typically this shows films at 7:45PM on the night it airs. Hmmmm. He may be doing the early shows while in NYC too but they don't usually announce the guests too far in advance for those. It's going to be a great couple of weeks and I'm looking so forward to tonight's live stream on WDW (sorry our Brit friends won't be able to watch unless they basically don't go to bed tonight). Well we know it will be all over the internet tomorrow!

Speaking of...is there a link somewhere with the recorded version of the PoP London Premiere Live Stream? As I watched a ton of videos this weekend that was one I thought I saw and flagged the day after it happened but now I can't find it. Maybe I'm mistaken and it wasn't saved anywhere?? Fill me in if anyone has any info...thanks!

Back to work for me I guess. *pulling self away from internet*

:-)

Hey BBMISwear :-) Can't reply properly right now, but I just sent you the London premiere livestream video!
