Jake Gyllenhaal talks Martian (sorry, US sports) & gets his abs squeezed - plus more vids and scans! And a gamer's review

It's always a real pleasure to see Jake Gyllenhaal on the TV! It doesn't happen everyday either. So imagine my pleasure at being able to see Jake on ESPN's SportCenter's Top Plays! And imagine my bewilderment when I realise I can't understand a flippin' word he says... Something to do with Celts - and I don't think he's talking about people who covered themselves in blue paint and lived on the top of windy hills and threw fruit at the Romans. Also rays of light and flashing leather. I think this interview must be in code and in future years we will look back on it and think we should have listened...

On to things I more readily understand - Jake Gyllenhaal's finely defined abs. In this video - from our friends at HeyUGuys - you can see them getting an appreciative squeeze. More than compensation enough for listening to Jake talking about the washing hair ab routine yet again. I feel like an expert! When Jake writes the book on it, I want to write the back cover.

We also have three videos from IGN on gaming, character and the physical side of this movie - not necessarily in that order. I don't want to seem superficial, but doesn't Jake look hot here?

The Princess of Persia, Gemma Arterton, has not only admitted to rolling down a hill (by mistake) on the first day of shooting, she's also proclaimed that all and sundry 'should see my movie because it's got Jake Gyllenhaal in it. There are no really hot guys in 'Sex and the City'. There's amazing outfits, but in 'Prince of Persia', there's a lot of male testosterone, which is quite sexy.' When it comes to a choice between Jake Gyllenhaal and shopping for shoes there is no competition whatsoever. Shopping for some nice new electronics? We can negotiate...

Gemma's friends wanted to visit set to see for themselves, sensiible ladies, and Gemma concludes: 'Jake has this effect on people. They just want to be around him. He makes you feel really good. He's very sweet and he doesn't take himself too seriously, which is very refreshing. He worked his a*s off to get that body. He just didn't stop. It’s like a sculpture.'

I wanted to include a link to this review of Prince of Persia because it is written by a gamer who didn't expect (or, indeed, want) to be won over by the movie version. But he was. He really was. And he concludes: 'to an extent, Sands of Time represents a new dawn for gaming's relationship with the cinema.' I could quite from so much of this 'surprised' review but I'll leave it for you to read.

Scans by WDW. Still playing catch up so more tomorrow!

Oh my gosh! That sports video was a completely different language. I didn't understand a word! (Apart from Leather and Buddhist..)

Can anyone tell us what the point of the top ten thing was, and what Jake was supposed to do? :P

I love those IGN interviews. I have so much love for calm/softly-spoken/highly-animated Jake.

More interviews!!! :D :D

I think it was cool that he was on Sports Center. Sorry about the US sports talk folks, lol.

I am glad to see gamer's giving PoP a good review!

Okay, I just watched the one "shortest interview in movie history" omg, LMOA he is so cute! :p

I absolutely LOVED the Sports Center video (but of course...I follow American sports, more so Boston sports - which was discussed - and Jake talks about Boston)!! All that aside if you know American sports most will find this very entertaining...if not, well, probably not. When I emailed the link to WDW I said "I don't think the Brits will enjoy this too much"! LOL! Anyway, to answer Silver's question ESPN is the big cable sports network in the states and Sports Center is like their morning news. They always do a top 10 plays report of the plays the night before...but I've never seen a guest like Jake on before!! It's usually the regular sports anchors. He is suppose to "recap" the plays somewhat - be witty - which he (mostly) was - ha ha! All that Boston Celtics vs. LA Lakers talk (and being divided between the two cities and his "boys"/friends in Boston had me yelling whoooowheee)!! I'm rambling...sorry. Cool stuff (to me). P.S. to Olympia...good luck with Montreal...I heard it's not too good. Nothing can be worse then the way the Boston Bruins choked. Did you see that? Ugly!

Sports talk over...note to WDW: You are AMAZING!! My work project has knocked me for a loop this week so I have had very little time here. I just glanced at your last few posts and they are so full, so huge, so wonderful...you have no idea how much I appreciate this! I may not be able to read and watch all of it right now but the sticky note reminders are by the computer (hee hee) and I will be back this weekend when I get a little time off from the work insanity. So thank you for having it all here for me when I'm finally ready. Are you exhausted or what?!

Until next time... :-)

The sports center clip was cool, Jake seemed a little out of his element though, maybe that's just me. He just seemed really quiet.

Really enjoyed the IGN interviews. He looked incredibly hot. He seemed more relaxed and casual which was nice to see. I'm glad he was asked about being cast in PoP even though he's not Persian. If you read the IMDb boards (which I try not to but can't help myself) it's the biggest complaint people have with the film. I thought he answered it well.

Good morning! Lovely to see you all on this warm, muggy Thursday.

Silver, I'm really pleased to hear your exams are going well - not long now and you can recover in a cool cinema with the prince :D I was totally bemused by the sports thing, although I had had a cocktail or two first...I must watch it again and try and interpret it. I heard Buddhist :D

Morning Get Real! It was cool :D And he looked hot too - I could understand that! Oh that shortest interview is hysterical!

Morning BBMISwear :-) Yeay for Boston - causing Jake such conflict in his sporting loyalties :D And thank you! And yes! But today is my last day of work and then three days of PoP! It's supposed to be hot and sunny for the next few days so I'm going to spend it all either in the pictures or in the sun - sounds perfect :D

Hi Leslie! I did think Jake looked a bit out of his natural element - I wonder if these things are recorded live?

The IGN intreviews were very interesting - I long ago gave up even looking at IMDb for PoP as those comments are plain ridiculous. I seem to recall when I saw Clash of the Titans that noone seemed that bothered that its stars weren't ancient or Greek.

I really liked the review I linked to in the post - a gamer who didn't expect, or want, to like this film but was completely won over, not least because of Jake. Dastan is a hugely likeable character.

Have a good day everyone!

Good Morning!

Hi WDW! I'm not sure if SportsCenter is live or not I've honestly never watched it before I'm not that much of a sports fan.

I have to say Jake being a fan of Boston teams is really surprising to me, especially him being a Red Sox fan. I'm just happy he's not a Yankees fan, yuck! ;-)

IMDb is really ridiculous at times. WDW, you mentioned they didn't complain about Clash of the Titans well someone pointed out on the boards there that no one complained about Gerard Butler in 300 either.

I too enjoyed the reviewer who didn't expect to like PoP but did. It's always a good thing when that happens. I hope it happens to more people. I've gotten a few funny looks from people when I tell them how excited I am for PoP. I've also been told that I should expect to come out of the theater wanting my money back. Aren't people so nice!

There is just too much POP stuff, I can't keep up! WDW, you're doing an amazing job. :)

Jake must be so tired of answering the same questions over and over again, I know I'm getting tired of hearing the same answers. I love him in interviews but I wish interviewers were a little more creative. Like that Dastan Jr., that was weird but hilarious! :D

I saw Ironman II yesterday, how come no one mentionned that Alma Jr. was in it? It's a very small role but it was nice to see Kate Mara again, she's a beautiful girl.

BBMIswear, I'm sorry about the Bruins, it must have been horrifying to see the Flyers coming back like that. Montréal's not doing too well right now but even if they get eliminated by Philadelphia, I'll still be happy, I didn't think they were gonna make the playoffs. :)

Hi Leslie :D When I thin of Jake and sports, I'll always think of the Green Monster. He looked so good up there!

Good to see you, olympia! I know! Some of these interviews can seem so hard to tell apart - it makes things easier for Jake but I do like it when we get the quirky ones. The Dastan Jr one was priceless. I liked the one from last night with the touching the abs though, with jake saying he felt violated and was the door locked! And the shortest interview.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that about Alma Jr! I did a double take when she came on the screen. What a lovely girl :)

It makes me very happy to hear that Jake is a fan of Boston's sports teams. I'm not surprised, given that he and his family spend so much time on Martha's Vineyard.

I think there may eventually be a consensus among audiences, if not critics, that Jake and Gemma have pretty good screen chemistry. Frankly, as soon as I saw the first pictures of them together, I thought their body languasge spoke volumes about their chemistry. But maybe I'm just getting to be a big fan of Gemma, who was stunning in the otherwise awful "Clash of the Titans."

The ESPN video is no longer available :(

but I am going to check out the other vids

thanks WDW

Hi Paul! I'm not surprised wither - Jake spent much of his youth growwing up around Boston and MV. Oh my, Clash of the Titans was awful - I kinda wish Gemma had given that a miss. Hopefully people will see how good she is in PoP :D

Hi Sweetpea - I've replaced te video for one that works :)

New post!
