Return of the Beanie - Jake Gyllenhaal in NYC and People's Choice Awards tonight!

There was a time when the word 'Beanie' could strike fear and horror into the heart and mind of a Gyllenhaalic. Back in 2008, Jake Gyllenhaal was barely seen without a Beanie glued to his head. At first we chuckled and laughed but then, as the weeks and months passed, we came to realise that this was no joking matter and we despaired that we would ever set eyes on Jake's head again. But then, with the cropping of the Prince of Persia locks in 2009, the Beanie was cast off and we could breathe easy again. However...

On 2 January, Jake attended the closing gala of Fela! on Broadway and, I'm afraid to say my friends, the Beanie was back. And not only that. Jake combined said Beanie with an old favourite Beanie Accompaniment, the 66 Jacket, a combo not seen since London back in October 2008. I take no responsibility for the picture below, you view it at your own risk.

Fortunately, other pictures have surfaced, thanks to IHJ, of Jake's visit to the The Sloan-Kettering Cancer Hospital where he spent time on the children's ward on 27 December. On this occasion Jake modelled a sensational parker jacket complete with kangaroo pouch. There are times when the cold weather really suits Jake.

Tonight the People's Choice Awards take place in Los Angeles and, while there's little sign that Jake Gyllenhaal has left the east coast to attend, we can still hope that Jake wins some love for his Dastan.

And finally...

Do check out part 2 of an interview with Duncan Jones and Gavin Rothery over at ManMadeMovies. This interview dates from a marvellous night at the BFI, when I got to meet Duncan and enjoy the outstanding panel. I'm looking forward to the Duncan-Source Code interviews...

That made me laugh. You know Jake way too well, WDW, it's almost scary! :-)

I don't mind the beanie, I'd have far bigger issues if the Face Pet would return. *shivers* Although I can imagine someone knowing a rhyme or two to go with 'Face Pet'. Okay, will shut up now. *grin*

How I'd love to shrink myself and hide in that kangaroo pouch. Close to his heart. *swoon*

I hope Dastan & PoP get some thumbs up tonight! He sure has my two thumbs up. :)

What's wrong with a Beanie? Maybe he just likes keeping his head warm. :-)

Am I the only one who thought the fourth photo of Jake showed him with three arms at first glance? Or is that LadyX hiding in the Kangaroo pouch? If so, MOVE OVER - I'M JOINING YOU!!

Hi!
Thank you WDW for explanation about Mute and for new post. Knowing, thanks to you, that it is a Duncan movie, I found some information about it and it seems to be very interesting, if it will be made. This time is about a woman disappearing.
The pictures are nice. Even the one with the beanie - his face and smile are perfect. I wonder who is the other guy? Jake smiles so nice to him.
I like very much those pictures from hospital visit. Jacket is great, suits Jake a lot and it has very convenient chest pocket:) where Jake may hide his treasure, invisible to paps. I like that fur hood as well.
Let's hope for at least one award for Jake. I was voting a lot! :)

You are so good observant - Susan. Really, it is some lady behind Jake. Must be very slim:)

Yes that's me. I quickly contacted the director of Honey I Shrunk The Kids and I found the formulae. Do you want a drop of it? Then we'll fit in here nicely. Jaaaake, sista-friend is on the way! Get us some chocolate please! *grin*

LOL at Jake's Beanies :)
he looks extremely cute in my opinion, but it's weird anyway.
I really like the parker jacket , makes me picture him smelling like Downy or something haha
this post made me laugh too much WDW!!
Good Luck Jake! Let's pray

The beanie works for me, I don't have a problem with it. What I don't like is the facial hair when it gets out of hand. For now he seems to be keeping it tamed.

I'll be watching the awards tonight so I guess I'll see if Jake is there. He'll have to be there next week at the golden Globes

I know, Lady Ekster! Some things I never forget (and that jacket's one of them). Jake and his kangaroo pouch... sigh :D

Hey Susan! There were so many Beanies on Jake in 2008 it was even worse than the Face Pet! And, even worse than that, the trilby - ugh... But I was hoping the beanies had shrunk in the wash. Jake with three arms, eh? That's a lot of arms.

Hey Mermon! I think Mute sounds so interesting and I love to hear directors passionate about their projects. I hope Jake does well this evening. I've voted a few times myself.

I love that jacket, Linda! Glad the post gave you a laugh :D

Hi Sweetpea - the Globes are a different kettle of fish altogether so Jake will be there for those, for sure.

Thank you so much, 21:49!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi there MK! Posting at the same time. I don't think Jake will be there either.

First pic in this post has renewed my love for Jake. And I doubt it needed renewal so I'm basically overdosing on my adoration for him. That smile is so gorgeous!!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

It's an absolutely adorable pic, Alejandra! Sometimes, I may poke fun at Jake for what he wears etc but it's not about any of that, it's all about that smile and the way it reaches its eyes. That picture is the perfect Exhibit A :D

From People's Choice Movie Awards -
Taylor Swift presented Favourite Movie Star - Johnny Depp has won, over Robert Pattinson and Robert Downey Junior.
Movie Star under 25 - Zac Effron, over Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
Favourite Movie Actress - Kristen Stewart, over Angelina Jolie,
The best movie - Eclipse, over Inception.
And instead of Jake - Jackie Chan has won, and instead of POP - Iron Man2 :(
I would better sleep!

I like the beanie.

I like the jacket of the day of hospital.

Shoe, is very fast. It will be great to see Jake and Natalie together again.

I like how close friends Jake and Natalie Portman seem to be. It's nice he's presenting her the award.

I became a fan of Jake's after Brokeback, so I'm not so aware of his private life before. Now to my question, did Jake and Natalie date at one point in his past?

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Good morning everyone! Kudos to all those who managed to sit through the People's Choice Awards last night...

That's great news, Shoe! Thanks for the link :D

Morning Mermon! Well... any awards programme that picks Eclipse over Inception as best film and Kristen Stewart as best actress is... *please supply your own word*. These are definitely teenage awards! I've never had much time for these particular awards and yet again this is confirmed. But it's not a surprise and I'm also not surprised Jake wasn't there.

Hi Sweetpea - not a surprise.

Morning Monica, it will indeed!

Hi 6:41 :) There was speculation that Jake and Natalie were together (about 10 years go now) but Jake and Natalie have always seemed to be good friends. They of course worked together in Brothers and do charity work together in NYC and so Jake is the perfect choice to give Natalie an award, just as he has presented them to his other co-stars Jen Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Have a good day everyone!

The parker jacket from Dec 27th intrigues me. On his left arm Jake has something that looks like a flag. If I wasn't by profession such a person who calls in question everything I see, I would say it is Swedish, but it doesn't have the right yellow color in the cross.

Hi - I believe it's a t-shirt with the name of the hospital on it. You can make it out in some pictures. Probably a gift for Jake from the staff.

New Source Code poster

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Mermon - thanks for that but I'm not sure that's a new poster - it looks remarkably like a fan one that was done early last year.

By the way, comments with just links in them get spammed - they usually get through if they have some text with them :D

mermon said...

Sorry! I was in rush, just leaving home. If it's not a poster it's a pity for me. I like those green eyes :)

But, but, but....

A few of my favorite Jake pictures have that hat. The hat accentuates his smile.

Anyway, I still have a hat that my mother knitted for me many years ago. It has great sentimental value, and it's the best thing you could wear in very cold weather. I sometimes wear *two* of them when the bitter winds are strong. You can get them for 4 or 5 dollares in the supermarket. I'm always losing them, alas! :-(

It wasn't in the cards that Jake would win for "Prince of Persia."
"Grown ups" won for best comedy? Good grief!

His friendship with Natalie is so cute. I bet she will ask him to be a godfather to her baby.

Hi WDW!
I loved your:
"That picture is the perfect Exhibit A :D"
I'm not much of a fun of hats on him and in general but.... if it's cold it's cold. ;o)
No comments about the final result of the People's choice awards..... uhgg!

Hello! Just got back home from watching LAOD again - with a very appreciative audience. Lots and lots of laughing. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Hi Mermon :D

I know, I know, Paul! But back in 2008, Jake wore them all the time and it was so stressful... gasp... But I have to say that grin of his beats hands down any hat he might be wearing. Just gorgeous. I cannot believe Grown Ups won - that film is atrocious.

Hi 16:56 :)

Good to see you, Eureka! I know, best not to talk about that. I'm so glad Jake has a Globe nomination :D

I like Jake's beanies.

Just sayin' :D

mermon said...

We have a sentence in Poland, in free translation is - "When you are pretty, everything suits you".
I think that is a case. He's one lucky guy! Not only his parents thought him to accept himself - (his body), but he was fortunate to grow up beautifully as a handsome, bold man and whatever he wears - looks great. At least in my eyes! Beanies, jackets, brown shoes (I like brown), beard - doesn't bother me :)

Lucky WDW! How many times you had a chance to watch LAOD? And how is it after so many times? Do you find it better or see more minuses.

shoe89 said...

sometimes i wish natalie and jake would date but that can't happen now lol but yeah it would be cool if jake was the godfather to nat's child.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Ahhh Rubes.... Well if anyone's going to look yummy in Beanies it's our Jake :D

Hi Mermon! Jake is indeed a truly handsome and lovely man :) I saw LAOD for the fourth time this evening. Unusually for me and Jake films, there's been quite a gap - so four viewings over 2 months.

The first time I saw it I was in an unnatural Jake's going to be at the press conference straight afterwards kind of mood - so that wasn't normal. As I wrote in my review on MB, I'm not completely happy with the film but I thoroughly enjoyed it this evening. There are far fewer screenings next week (from tomorrow) and so I wanted to see it this evening. I think it was my favourite screening. The audience really got in to it. There's about a 10 minute section that I'm not that keen on but otherwise it's a pleasure.

I've come home late and I have some good stuff to post but I don't want to rush it when I'm tired so I hope you won't mind if I post it tomorrow. I had such a lovely evening with Jamie :)

mermon said...

Thank you for your story WDW.
Relax and rest, dreaming of Jamie or Jake :)
We will wait patiently.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks so much, Mermon! I feel very full of love for Jake this evening :D Off to bed for me, night! xx

Jake was spotted on the Q train in Brooklyn this morning - looking very snazzy!

Thanks Sweetpea! I'm very glad to be at home and in the dry - doing the new post now.

Hi 15:00! Thanks for the link - Jake looks scrummy :D
