Officer Taylor reporting for duty - Jake Gyllenhaal on the End of Watch set and a WDW Interlude

These are difficult hours and days in old Blighty. However, on the one hand we have mindless thugs robbing and burning their own communities, but on the other we have hundreds of volunteers marching into the town centres armed with brooms, bin bags and hope to tidy up after them. Good will defeat bad. And so it seems fitting that we have some new photos of Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of End of Watch or as he very much looks here - Officer Taylor. No messing. My review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes - or at least most of it - from an eventful and dark night in London.

WDW Interlude

At the weekend, I took off to Romsey in Hampshire to a living history festival called Blasts from the Past. It gave me some excellent ideas for Jake's next movie which must, of course, be a historical drama. Some periods may suit better than others. Others seem down right drafty.

Kate, I was sorry to read about your scary end of movie watching in London. It's so awful that in chaos time there are always people who use that situation and steal, rob and do other bad things. Nice to know that there are also other people willing to help.
Fresh pictures from the movie set are full of action! Jake as usual is very cool. :)
I wonder if American policemen don't wear caps, just sunglasses? Or is it only in the movie?

I think Officer Jake should go over and take care of things. He's armed and DANGEROUS! They won't stand a chance against him.

Unknown said...: It's really troubling to watch a whole bunch of teenagers get so violent for "nothing". If they were to put that "group effort" and energy into something useful, they would change their situation for the better, instead of making it worse for themselves.

Jake looks awesome as Officer Taylor. I wonder if he'll get to arrest someone himself too in the movie. Because on the pictures we saw of him so far, he had more a bystander role. Knowing how much he likes to do his own stunts, I bet he'll get to do some running and chasing too.

Susan said...: MrsJG is right, all that destructive energy and effort channelled into something positive could make such a difference in those individuals' communities and beyond. I guess some people just have to learn a lesson the hard way.

To Mermon's question about policemen wearing caps: I believe it varies from one place to another. Thankfully, I can't speak from much actual experience with interacting with police officers on duty, but most often I see local officers either hatless or with a baseball cap style hat. State Troopers are different, their distinctive "Smokey Bear" hats are part of the uniform they wear all the time. In the movies I see NYC officers with hats a lot of the time. Sunglasses may not be part of the uniform but they seem to be a necessity in L.A.

Wet Dark and Wild said...: Thanks so much Susan for that information! It's interesting to see the differences. Here, policemen, or bobbies, always wear high helmets or caps Except in the riots of recent days of course. Then it's crash helmets. Sunglasses seem very sensible in LA :D
