Maggie Gyllenhaal to take to the boards in South Pacific?

If you're not living on Mars, you may have noticed the rumours flying around that Jake Gyllenhaal may be taking to the Broadway stage this Autumn/Fall. But Jake is not the only Gyllenhaal for whom the boards are calling. Today, the New York Daily News reported that Maggie may appear on stage in NYC as Nellie Forbush in South Pacific. Anne Hathaway and Maggie Gyllenhaal both turned down the lead role in the future Broadway production of Pygmalion, but the 'gamine' Maggie may appear in South Pacific.

I've looked up the meaning of 'gamine' and this is what I've learned: Wikipedia reports that 'the word was used in English from about the mid 19th century (for example, by Thackeray in 1840 in one of his Parisian sketches), but, in the 20th century, came to be applied in its more modern sense of a slim, often boyish, wide-eyed young woman who is, or is perceived to be, mischievous, teasing or sexually appealing.' I think this sounds like our Maggie.

Elsewhere in Jakeland, Jake was awarded second place - behind Matthew McConaughey - in the list of People magazine's top sizzling bachelors. Jake may have been Mat's running and cycling buddy through 2006, but, according to Jake's description at People, Jake's heart belongs to Ramona and watching her grow.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ramona - Gotcha!

Every so often you see one of those photos that can't help but make you go misty-eyed, this is such a photo (well, it worked for me). On Friday 4 May Ramona decided she wasn't getting enough attention from Maggie, who was on the phone at the time. Nothing for it but a good pinch of the Gyllenhaal nose.


Certain sectors of the webworld believe that the earth may stop turning because Maggie was spotted breastfeeding in public last week. I would have thought that the only problem with this is the fact that someone thought it a good idea to take pictures and sell them across the internet.

Jake Gyllenhaal in NYC 25 April 2007

Jake is now in New York City, where he was spotted on Wednesday walking through the Meat Packing district while talking on his phone. This week is the Tribeca Film Festival in Manhattan so it's not impossible that's the reason for Jake's continuing travels around the US. Tonight, for instance, Jake could be settling down to Tribeca's screening of Dirty Dancing, starring Jake's friend from his rabbit days, Patrick Swayze. Here's the schedule if you're in Manhattan and don't have any plans.
