Jake Gyllenhaal back in Montreal and Na'vi Jake...

It looks like Jake Gyllenhaal is back in Montreal. With principle photography set to begin next Monday, according to the tweet of director Duncan Jones (quite a reliable source, I'd say), Jake has only five full days to find a yoga class. Only then will he be able to contort his bare-chested 'thinking woman's action hero' frame into mesmerising poses, now so famous in the gyms of LA and Berkeley. I know it's a bit of a commute, but Oxford in England has some fine yoga classes at - ooh, thinking off the top of my head - my gym, for instance.

Jake did, however, leave his mark in New York City. At the Hungry in America Project bash on Sunday, Jake not only monopolised the chef to such an extent that the Hungry in America Project went hungry, he also talked over a film shown there and was shushed by a fellow member of the audience. Further disruption was caused by Natalie Portman's giggles. It is a possibility, however, that shushing Jake may be something to add to our How to Attract Jake's Attention List.

The story that Jake and Matt Damon turned down a half-hearted offer to be Na'vi Jake in Avatar has resurfaced today. With thanks to Monica for the heads up, here is a look at what we might have enjoyed in 3D these past weeks. I'm inclined to think that it's not just the Tree of Souls that had a lucky escape...

And finally...

For those of us who might accidentally have bought a range of Prince of Persia Jake Figurines last night, here is a closer look at the dagger toy. Although it doesn't turn back time itself, it does glow - almost as useful, I'm sure you'll agree.

Be On Your Guard! Don't underestimate the Shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal Yoga Peril

I am deeply concerned about the good people of Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco - Jake Gyllenhaal has been seen doing yoga shirtless in your vicinty. Obviously this is no joking matter. Not only does it mean that a yoga bug will hit these areas (think New Year Resolutions time in your own gym and multiply the effect 1000 fold), leading to overcrowding of biblical proportions, but if you should end up in a class with Jake Gyllenhaal contorting his shirtless body into the Ustrasana position, do not underestimate the threat this poses to your blood pressure.

Always one to think of others, I thought I would try and help the people of this part of California with a scientific experiment. I will attempt to numb potential yoga classmates to the effects of the GyllenBod with a form of aversion therapy. And then they will succeed in breathing one lung at a time without any additional risk to their health.

Hopefully, after studying these pictures, the next time you're forming the Cobra next to a shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal, you won't bat an eyelid. For a further guide to Yoga Jake, please consult this Guide to Hot Yoga.

Jake McGyllenhaal's Guide to Hot Yoga

Irrespective of whether today's Silly Jake Story is true or not, I must be allowed a moment to relish the particulars. According to the New York Daily News, 'Jake Gyllenhaal is setting female pulses aflutter when he attempts the downward dog. During a yoga session at Yas in Venice, Calif., the “Brokeback Mountain” star began sweating like a pig. To the delight of the female class members (and a few male), Jake whipped off his Facebook Addict T-shirt, wiped himself down and rode off on his bicycle.' Below is the yoga move in question and below that is Jake illustrating taking his t-shirt off.

A few things to note here. It is extremely questionable that Jake Gyllenhaal is able to 'sweat like a pig' because that is an unattractive image and Jake does not sweat unattractively. I will grant that he may have perspired profusely. Does Jake really own a 'Facebook Addict' t-shirt? Is Jake a Facebook addict or is he a t-shirt addict? I will allow that he can 'whip off' t-shirts as if it were an Olympic athletic sport. I have an image in my head, now, of Jake doing yoga almost as if it were a triathlon, leaping from yoga mat to bicycle seat. One can not possiby question the 'delight', or the speed with which the yoga classes are overfilling with lucky Californian Venetians.

While the story itself is just that, a story, it is undoubtedly true that Jake is a yoga buff and he is also bendy, supple and, as a result, probably able to hold a position for a considerable amount of time. I don't have pictures, alas, of Jake doing the downward dog, although I would obviously kill for them, but we are at least lucky in that we do have photos of Jake from over the years which do show him setting new standards of excellence in original and novel yoga postures.

I think it's fair to say that at some point we will have the Gyllenhaal Guide to Yoga for Beginners and Experts, in book and DVD formats, accompanied by the Jake Gyllenhaal yoga clothing line for children and adults - t-shirts an optional extra. Featuring prominently in the book, will be the 'Does my bum look big in this?' position...

...as well as the 'Come and get me' pose, which takes years to perfect.

Useful accessories to GyllenYoga include metal stressballs, girls standing in doorways who have a good grip and bucketloads of water.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Whether you celebrate it or not, I wish everyone a happy St Paddy's Day, especially Jake McGyllenhaal, who, no doubt, did not get through making Brothers with Jim Sheridan without having at least one pint of the dark stuff afterhours.
