Confirmed: Rendition to have Gala Presentation at Toronto

The organisers of the Toronto Film Festival have announced today that Rendition, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep, will receive a special Gala presentation at this year's Festival, 6-15 September.

We had already suspected that Rendition would have exposure at the Toronto Film Festival - and also at the Venice Film Festival - but today's news confirms this and gives us some indication of the excitement and buzz that we can expect around the release of Jake's new film this Autumn.

Apologies for two posts in quick succession this evening, but this certainly deserves it! Pictures from IHJ.

Any news yet on how many dvd versions we can expect for this one? (sorry!)

Seriously though, this is good news as it will help promote the movie, and given the subject matter and the current political climate, it will probably need all the help and exposure it can get. And it will also (hopefully) mean lots of pics of Jake in full on movie star mode :D Getting flashbacks here to all those Cannes photoshoots, especially the one with the lilac shirt *swoon*

I think we can expect at least two or three...I'm just grateful this one's coming out on time!

This is good news, Twisted Logic, not least because, as you say, Jake will turn out as the movie star and, when he has that hat on, there is noone more charismatic or breathtaking for any number of miles under the sun.

And yes, that shirt was something else. Cannes Jake is special to me too of course for so many reasons but for me it will always be Bafta Jake :D

Sorry to post so much today, but there are so many exciting things going on here today! This is fabulous, Rendition in Toronto. Yes, he was beautiful at Cannes, but there's something about BAFTA Jake. I've said this before, but it bears repeating: WDW, you Brits sure knew a good thing when you saw it, and rewarded accordingly! I was so very dissappointed that Brokeback Mountain didn't get the Best Picture award at the US Academy Awards, especially hearing that some of the Academy didn't even see it, when I feel that it is their obligation to judge every film fairly. But don't get me started on that. That's ok, because we know Brokeback was the best. :)

Never apologise for posting so much Marina! It's a pleasure!

Oh don't remind me of the agony of the Oscars 2006 - I stayed up all night for that result and it was not a pleasant experience. But, as you say, I think most people now would say that Brokeback will stand, and is standing, the test of time far more than the Film That Shall Not Be Named.

I'm proud of Jake being given the BAFTA and that it meant to much to him, so much so that he was back there this year, looking more beautiful than I've ever seen him. He radiated something extra special that night and I'm thrilled I saw that in person.

Rendition is going to produce more of the same :D

Ohhhhhhhhhhh WDW, you are so lucky! I had no idea you were actually there! And you saw his wonderful speech! What experiences, the BAFTAs and Cannes!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

I was at the Baftas this year - but outside so I didn't hear the speech. But I did get very close indeed! About a foot away I'd say and got an autograph and I swear the earth tilted off its axis ;D

Oh don't get me wrong, Bafta Jake is totally swoon-worthy! As I've said before, there's something special about Jake being here in the same time zone and breathing the same pollution filled air as me,even if he looked dog rough (or as close to that as Jake can get, which is probably actually a million miles away), but he looked gorgeous that night, and was so cute and funny with his "this guy...this guy" quip and his self deprecating little laugh that he did afterwards...But the lilac shirt from Cannes has a special place in my ,er, heart, cos it made me have the most incredible dream about Jake wearing it;) I won't go into detail, but let's just say whenever I hear Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator" now I always think of Jake;)

Marina, I agree it's disgraceful that some Academy members didn't even bother to watch BBM. The whole thing should have been declared null and void when that came to light. But I believe history will prove that Brokeback Mountain should have been the rightful winner.

PS: Just seen your comment above WDW! You were actually there?! And got an autograph! Wow...I bet that's something you'll never forget:)

Yep, I'd say that's about what would happen! Tell us more, please!

And TwistedLogic, that sounds like some dream - I'd better not think about that song. ;)

I can feel the anger welling up once again about the sorry US Academy Awards. I could go off on a rant about if one has the honor of being a member of the Academy then it should be mandatory that all films for consideration be viewed in full! But I won't because like Marina said, we know Brokeback was the best!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Oh heavens Twisted Logic - In an elevator?! I can see that the lilac shirt is a bit special :D

Jake was stunning at Cannes, definitely, but at the BAFTAS, both outside and on the stage, he was so in control and sophisticated. Amazingly handsome and the archetypal movie star. I loved my moment at Cannes with Jake as he interacted and laughed but having Jake right in front of me in London, a town I love, looking like that, was a moment I'm always going to treasure. Sigh...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Marina and Dani I'm torn now between ranting about the injustices of the Academy Awards and sitting here in my own little world smiling with happy Bafta memories :D

I must say that one of the things I remember most about the Baftas is hearing the announcement (through the radio headset that all of us who'd got wristbands had been given) 'And now getting out of his car is........ Jake Gyllenhaal'. I was so sure he wasn't coming and as I was right at the front I looked way down the line and watched him come towards me. When he reached me I said his name, he signed his autograph and moved on and we watched him for some time, chatting and hugging with Ian McKellern, being interviewed by Ruby Wax, kissing Helen Mirren etc until he finally went in. Then we all went to the pub and toasted Jake. We were in a line for so many hours and it was freezing but so worth it, I can't tell you. Right, tell me to shut up now please!

I'm sighing too just imagining what it must have been like. I'm so pleased for you that you had that moment with Jake:) And I admire you so much for being able to keep your composure with him standing there- I don't think I could manange it. I was reading some extracts from the Alastair Campbell diaires in one of the papers today, and he described how a hotel chambermaid asked him to introduce her to Bill Clinton, who was staying in the same hotel. So Campbell took the woman over to where Clinton was, only for her to faint at his feet when Clinton said hello to her!! It made me LOL,but I just know I would do the same if I ever met Jake!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

That's so funny Twisted Logic! I've seen Bill Clinton three times now because I live in a place that he constantly visits. I've even seen him and Hillary in my local supermarket. But the best time was when he was out jogging and just chatted with people. I got a hug and a photograph. A very nice guy.

I suppose when you see Jake you don't know how you're going to react. In Cannes, it was all laughter and smiles because it was so special for Jake too - there were so few fans we stood out and so Jake noticed us and had some fun with us. At the Baftas there were lots of people calling for him and he was undoubtedly the movie star (we just walked past Daniel Craig on the way to the pub!). But when he stood in front of me time froze and I just said his name. Both encounters were incredibly special and very different. So I'm sure you would have kept your compsure too.

But both encounters taught me that on such occasions, Jake likes to hear you call his name - he likes to be the centre of attention! So don't be shy!

More possible Broadway news for Jake?!?!

That is just so wonderful that you've had the opportunity to see Jake twice, WDW, and get an autograph. I've often thought about calling his name . . . over. . . and over . . . sorry, just teasing, I should stop thinking about TwistedLogic's dream! lol I think I need a Moonstruck "Snap out of it!" slap! In all seriousness tho, what an incredible experience it must have been. :)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Thanks Get Real - I'll post about that in the morning. Jake has been teaching us so much about how these Broadway things work - and star readings are one of these things. Interesting. What wouldn't I give to see/hear Jake sing...

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Marina - One of my ambitions was to say Jake's name to him and so it was ipmortant to me I said it. But of course, he enjoyed it more when we were calling his name in Cannes as noone else was!

And I think we all envy Twisted Logic that dream!!

Thanks for the advice, I'll try to remember it if I ever see Jake in person.although if I did, I'd probably have trouble remembering my own name, never mind his! Thanks for sharing the details about your Jake encounters, what amazing experiences!
And yes, that dream was something else, but sadly I haven't had a dream about him since. Hopefully all this talk might encourage one tonight (God, how sad am I?). really enjoyed chatting tonight, thanks guys!
Looking forward to reading about Jake on Broadway tomorrow :)

I've had a good time chatting here tonight too. Wouldn't it be great if we all had a Jake dream tnight - so let's meet up again tomorrow and find out! G'night :D

it's kind of lonely always coming to this site long after almost everyone else (on the other side of the pond) has gone to bed.

I'm really looking forward to "Rendition" too... for so many reasons. Not the least of which is how smoking hot Jake looks (is that horrible of me to admit?). But I am preparing myself for the distinct possibility that "Rendition" will be another "Zodiac" in terms of box office/mass appeal, at least here in the U.S. I have very little faith that American audiences really are dying to confront the unpleasant hidden realities of our "war on terror". And while I certainly do not want Jake to prostitute himself by doing brainless movies like "Wild Hogs", I do want millions of more people to see and admire him.

On a lighter note..... BAFTA Jake was heart stoppingly handsome, elegant...... an absolute movie star! He could wear his hair that way forever, and I'd be one happy girl.

Not awful at all to admit, Birdie. We all agree, I think, that there's no way ya couldn't notice his hotness, he's got it all IMO.

More great news, GetReal, as well, Jake possibly in another play! I swear, this is my last post of the day, but there's been so many exciting things happening, I couldn't resist. Goodnite, all! :*

I'm delighted at the idea of Jake on Broadway...and singing?? How cool would that be!!!Wish I could be a fly on the wall at the very exclusive, very private gathering for the reading! That has to be nerve wracking for Jake! I hope Jake won't limit himself to just new offerings. Some revivals turn out really well. I went to Amazon and got a "taste" of the original Boradway soundtrack. Hal David and Burt Bacharach wrote the songs. They were the award winning team that gave Dionne Warwick so many classics back in the day.
WDW, I was reflecting on the time I met a celeb I was a huge fan of about three years ago. I've met a lot of famous people. But when I saw this guy from a distance, I thought I was gonna hyperventillate!!! He walked passed me, and I totally froze! I was incoherent. He went into a building with some friends. I was at a sidewalk cafe eating. I ate very slowwwwly. I dawdled. I calmed down. When he came back out, I was poised, had enuf wine and was joined by three friends, so I was calm.He was very nice to us. I'd love to go to Toronto for this. Probably wouldn't ever get to meet Jake, but it is SO fun!

You really ought to go .. you never know what lies ahead. Go for it!

bobbyanna, if you don't go to Toronto you'll have me to answer to :) I haven't forgotten you encouraging me to go to BAFTA!

*sigh*

... and that was a good decision.

Hi Birdie - it must certainly isn't horrible to admit that Jake looking 'smoking hot' in a movie is a good reason to see it! In my opinion, Jake is going to look just as I love him best in Rendition and that is definitely one of the reasons why I'm so excited about seeing it :D

This is undoubtedly going to be another tough one for American audiences. But this film will be very high profile everywhere, not least because Meryl Streep and Reese are also in it. What will be interesting is to see what type of film Jake chooses next and which direction he'll go for.

Jake's BAFTA hair is my favourite without doubt.

Thanks for all your comments last night Marina - it really did feel like an exciting evening in Jakeland :D

Hey Bobbyanna - wouldn't it be something else to hear this reading! And it'll be so different for Jake. I put a post up about this today as it definitely deserved it.

I love to hear people's experiences of meeting someone they admire. These experiences make the most perfect memories and I treasure mine. As Incognita says - you never can tell :D

Going to the BAFTAs was definitely a GOOD decision :)

I remember all the discussions some had about whether to go or not - sometimes you have to take a chance :D

Man, I wish I could go to Toronto for the festival, and I even looked into it a couple of months ago, but it's waaaayyyy outta my price range for absolutely everything. Bummer! But I do look forward to fab photos of Jake. I am so looking forward to the film -- an incredible cast.

I know it can be so difficult Beckela - Next year I'm going to have to plan carefully my Jake budget! I want to do something for Rendition but it's difficult knowing what.
