Jake - 'I don't do anything that I wouldn't do in public'

Amongst the Jake goodies that have been arriving in my email inbox over the last few days have been too magazine interviews with Jake, which I'm posting today. If you click on them you'll be able to read what Jake has learned from older women and his admission, among others that you may find fun, 'I don't do anything that I wouldn't do in public. If it's gonna be weird, you gotta do it in public.' Thanks to CWG and an anonymous reader for these gifts.

Another day, another poll - or three

Just as Conan O'Brien discovered when he was given leave to smell Jake's beard recently, Jake is clean, although according to one poll, not quite as clean as David Beckham and Matt Damon. However, Jake (who got 18% of the vote) is cleaner than Matthew McConaughay and Zac Efron and a lot cleaner than the dirtiest celebrities Tommy Lee, David Hasselhoff and Vince Vaughan.

As this is, without doubt, one of the most ridiculous polls I've ever come across, which will not be troubling a single brain cell in Jake's very clean head, you can instead vote for Jake in Buzzsugar's poll for the Best Dramatic Actor of the Year for Zodiac and Rendition. Jake is currently 4th, with Christian Bale leading. The other vote is for Best Drama/Thriller of the Year - Zodiac is in the running and currently has 9% of the vote.

Auctions and sales

Last Thursday, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard attended the glamorous launch of the lunchbox auction at the Saatchi & Saatchi Gallery in New York. Maggie was one of those who also designed a lunchbox, with her's looking like 'a mirrored jewelry box that many guests covertly used for makeup and hair checks'.

You can see a video of the event here.

At the other end of the scale, today marks the end of the Silent Auction, which is all about raising money for the The River Valley Library, in Port Byron, Illinois. Jake was one of the big stars to donate an autograph.

Thanks are due to I Heart Jake for guiding us through the Jake Picture Drought by posting some new/old pictures of Jake from 2006 in NYC.

Includes pictures from IHJ.

He likes to do good, big movies that people response to, yet he always seems to have more luck with the small indi movies, like October Sky, Good Girl, Donnie Darko and BBM. He doesn't seem so lucky with the big ones he tries, i hope that'll change.
I liked the interviews! Thanks!:)

Hi Anon - thanks for commenting. I suppose it's easy to forget that Jake is only 27 (almost). Even the 'big' films (obvious exception being TDAT) haven't been especially mainstream. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Zodiac will be a film Jake should forever be proud of and as for the success Jake had with BBM, well that was just huge. The next couple of years will be fascinating.

I'm glad you like the interviews - fun, aren't they. Thanks CWG :)

I'm catching up WDW and I know I'm on the wrong thread, and it's not that I don't appreciate all your great work or anything, but I want to second Ruby's request for a Highway-themed post :D *

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Anouska - your wish is my command *) Now hurry up and catch up :D

Iggy said...

Those interviews were great! Especially the 'Men' one...Jesus! Jake sounds like the IDEAL boyfriend...Jake, I'm an older woman, I'm very confident, I love myself very much,I'm a connoisseur of fine food...oh and I'm a good teacher...wink, wink....do I have a hope?

But oh that Dish interview was a gem too! Thank you so much CWG and anonymous.

I voted for Jake and Zodiac of course..and our Jake looks good enough to sniff any day...in fact if I could bottle his scent...I'd wear it.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Rosie - I reckon Jake could do OK with us :D The snifing Jake part reminds me of the Heart interview when Jake joked that he was wearing Oscar Fever cologne!

chillinwitgyllen said...

That's OK WDW, you can delete me anytime you'd like *)

I'm still trying to figure out where I found that interview, sorry I didn't share it sooner I would have but I forgot I had it until I looked for your photos.

Thanks for the new post ;)

Also still working in the vid.

Christie said...

Wow, WDW, another great post. How do you do it?

CWG and anonymous, these interviews are gorgeous, thanks for sharing. I've read the second one before, but not the first. The things he says, it's enough to melt me right off my chair. The quote about orgasms.....oh my.

I voted for Jake and Zodiac, which was a pleasure.

I think Maggie and her social conscience are very admirable. I would love to hear conversations that go on between her and the rest of the Gyllenhaals. Must be fascinating.

Lovely pics of Jake to accompany the post....old or new, I don't care, well ok I care, cos they didn't have much of the beard on show.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey CWG! That's all right then ;) I love it when Jake says things like that - sigh. We should sort out a curriculum... Can't wait to see the vid - the pictures are great and will be a big part of a forthcoming post, which I'm working on now.

Which reminds me, if any readers here were at TIFF - and I know there are several - and you're willing, can you email me? Thanks :D

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Christie - I know there's something about Jake when he says things like that... I'd definitely love to eavesdrop on a Gyllenhaal family dinner conversation - what a bunch. I could listen to Stephen all evening, I could certainly listen to Jake for 50 years so get them all together and it would be fascinating - we might not get a word in though ;)

The pics are good as they show Rendition Jake :D

chillinwitgyllen said...

Don't you just love the way he talks about women in those interviews, it makes you just want to eat him alive!

Don't worry WDW, I know when I'm not wanted :*

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Very edible CWG - Not wanted?! You most certainly are *) In fact I think we should all come over and go skiing (with Jake of course as he says he loves the snow) and get away from gloomy cold rain.

chillinwitgyllen said...

WDW, just say when :D

Anonymous said...

away from the cold cold rain and icicles dripping from my eaves!

still, WDW, today's post chased awway the gloom! early Jake, making funmy: and sexy. lil devil.
Jake goodies, indeed. And he said he's not gonnma spread those goodies around "for no reason". :) :)

Papa G wrote about Jake at 25 - wonder what he thinks of his blue- eyed boy at 27!

I'd also love to hear table talk among the G family. I can watch again and again the Donnie Darko scene with Maggie and Jake at dinner table. Jake said it was not unlike RL, for them.

All that talk about sniffing Jake makes me wanna watch BBMt - seemed to me both cowboys had been taught by their mamas good habits. :) :)

Keep it up, WDW - we're with ya all the way!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

CWG :D

Hey Pia - you have given me a good healthy belly laugh - thanks! I love naughty Jake, and he is so sexy. I think Papa G must be deligted with his blue-eyed boy - what a man he's become. I'm in the mood for a bit of BBM myself. It was to be Highway tonight but I'll leave that til tomorrow and catch up with the boys on the mountain.

I have to thank each and every one of you today for helping me keep the doldrums at bay *)

David Beckham is cleaner than Jake?? oh pleeeassseeee.... :P

I'd second (or third?) the pilot/highway theme post. Pilot is very enderinag, i'd definitely give him a cookie. Maybe two :P

I am going over now to vote for Zodiac and Jake.

Thanks. Great post - as always.

Anonymous said...

Pilot is very *endearing*

(jake robs my typing skill)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Winterbird - I thought you were saying Pilot is endangering - but endearing is better :D I have my homework set for me and I'll be on the case. David Beckham is not cleaner than Jake - that's blatantly obvious.

Anonymous said...

I've never had the desire to sniff any "celebrity" other than Jake.

And I admit to responding to compliments about Matthew McConaughay with the remark that he doesnt bathe often. Dont know where I heard this. Not nice, Pia.

I found this an interesting idea for a poll. Im not kidding.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Positively Pia - my senses tend to go haywire when Jake's around, hence I haven't sniffed him - just doesn't seem at the time like the thing for a girl to do. But I've never imagined Matt as not being clean as when I see pictures of him he always seems to be in the sea! This is giving me no end of ideas for polls! It could be that the whole point of it being the end of the year is now for us to show that Jake tops the list in everything :D

Anonymous said...

Wow WDW, those 2 magazine interviews are ahem, great!

It so happens that Matthew McConaughay has admitted that he doesn't ever use deodorant, ever! Yikes!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Jantoinette good to hear from you :D What, never! Good job Matt lives near all those sea breezes. Glad you liked the interviews ;)

Anonymous said...

Whereas Jake has claimed publicly that he takes two to three or was is three to four showers a day.

Ya gotta wonder.

Anonymous said...

p.s. Im gonna take a bubble bath and go to bed. It's been a strenuous day. g'nite, lovelies!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Jake in showers, 3 to 4 times a day - thanks for that bedtime image Pia! Have a good, relaxing night, Pia. See you tomorrow *)

twistedlogic said...

Oh wow! thank you WDW for all this wonderful Jake-ness for me to come back to:) I would love to make a deep insightful comment about the interviews, but reading about Jake talking about sex, orgasms, getting naked, and liking older women, while listening to the sleepy Jake interview, is more than my Jake-deprived mind can handle right now:D I think I'll just watch some Jarhead instead!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

HeyTL!reading about Jake talking about sex, orgasms, getting naked, and liking older women, while listening to the sleepy Jake interview - that sounds like a pretty darn good evening to me :D Enjoy Jarhead - don't overdo it!

twistedlogic said...

Hey WDW! You're quite right, after a few days of being Jake-less I need to ease myself back into it gently. So I'll restrict myself to just watching the Santa hat, STFU and tv interview scenes five times instead of my usual 10;)

Oh, and that Cleanest celebrity poll is so ridiculous I thought I must be dreaming it! beckham with all those stupid tats, they look like his kids drew all ovr him with felt tip while he was asleep! And how does Zac Efron keep getting in these polls - he's not old enough to even shave yet!And I should know, as his face is plastered all over TL Jr's bedroom. Speaking of shaving, it's probably the beard that cost Jake points - what more proof do you need, Jake?! Get your razor out! Maybe we should all club together and buy him one for his birthday (I have to admit that thought crosses my mind everytime I see an ad for razors!). Anyway, what's wrong with Dirty Jake - have these people not seen Jarhead?!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

You are so right TL - there is something to be said for Dirty Jake... the razor is a good idea for a pressie - that way he'll know what we want. Yes, maybe it's possible to be too clean ;)

twistedlogic said...

Right, that's Jake's pressie sorted - are you going to deliver it personally to Santa Fe or shall I?;) Oh, and yes, there's a lot to be said for Dirty Jake - unfortunately none of it is er, clean, so I'll keep my thoughts to myself;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

G'night TL and everyone - it's been fun :D See you all tomorrow and in the UK it's going to be very cold... :\

twistedlogic said...

Night WDW, and evryone! Let's hope it's cold enough for snow here (it certainly feels like it!), it might just lure Jake over here;D Btw, sorry I forgot my manners earlier (too much Jake can do that to a girl!) -- thank you CWG and Anon for the interviews:)

Anonymous said...

Hi WDW...loved the two articles...very funny and enlightening. I love reading Jake interviews because his answers smack of honesty..not just what he thinks will make good press ...or make him seem more than he is. You are the best, my dear..thanks for always posting yummy pics..
Michele

paulh said...

WDW, you and I have something in common: we both have heard Stephen Gyllenhaal read poetry. Stephen is a hot ticket, a wild card. There's still a lot of life left for him to live.

It baffles me that people would be so sensitive to Jake's smell, or the frequency with which he bathes. Showering 3 or 4 times a day would be fairly normal for someone who spends hours exercising every day. I don't think Jake is especially remarkable in that sense. But if you're into smelling men's beards, go ahead and indulge yourself. ;-)

chillinwitgyllen said...

Your welcome, glad everyone enjoyed, it's been a crazy day for me, g'nite all, talk tomorrow. Have fun Jake dreaming :)

Anonymous said...

"Don't you just love the way he talks about women in those interviews, it makes you just want to eat him alive!"

Yes, it's alot safer than talking about men. ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Morning everyone from an extremely cold and frosty London Town :D

Thanks Michele - glad you liked the pictures.

Hope you had a good night CWG. I heard that yesterday was 'officially' the most stressful day of the year. Weird that as it felt like it. Hopefully today will be better.

Hi Paul I'm sure we have a lot more in common than that :) I loved reading about your poetry experience with Stephen as of course your's had that extra something special about it! I agree with you about Stephen, he's got a lot to offer that I want to read - he said he was writing a novel and I'm intrigued to know more about that.

There is a lot of fascination about Jake's smell it's true - for myself, he's too big of a feast for the eyes and mind to ever remember to think to use my nose :D

Morning Anon :D

Hope everyone has a good day, Jake included, and speak to you all later!

Christie said...

Morning all, its very cold up North - a very very wintry day. Had to scrape the ice off my car. Brrrrr.

CWG, your article generated a lot of discussion, and it was all good. Liked what anonymous said about Jake in interviews, his answers do all smack of honesty, and not what he thinks people want to hear. He's also always so amazingly complimentary about women, which is always a good thing.

Anonymous said...

Jake seems like a guy who really loves the company of women. He seems very comfortable with them. And not at all intimidated by strong women who are also intelligent.I have a decided preference for younger men who think wrinkles are sexy!!LOL!!!

These are fun interviews, WDW.

Jake is fortunate he's done such fine work in such amazing films. Zodiac will definitely stand the test of time. I also think, once Rendition makes it to DVD and begins showing on pay-per-view and premium cable outlets, it, too will find it's audience. I think it was an important film with international appeal, and it was very well done. I am glad Jake did it. Everyone associated with it can be proud. I hope they promote the DVD! Funny. Last night watching the news, a former CIA agent who was present during waterboarding of a prisoner (CIA destroyed the tapes) said it was torture, it worked, and they got actionable intel from it but looking back now (four years later) he thinks we shouldn't be doing it, but then he felt differently. He could have been Douglas Freeman.

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hi Christie - nothing like having to scrape the car in the morning, eh? I enjoyed that too today at 5.30am! I've enjoyed the discussion about these articles very much - Jake knows how to keep the attention of his older appreciators!

Morning Bobbyanna - you're up early :D Any man who thinks older women are hot and sexy is fine by me, especially this one :D

That's very interesting about the CIA case you mention, and how being so close to a rendition must make one's reaction extremely personal to what's happening in front of yoour eyes - and how you would perhaps attempt to make it seem rational. Or like Douglas Freeman, you can be susceptible to both sides of the case but then firmly make up one's mind and do something about it.

I realise I'm not making much sense, but it's a late lunch today and I'm extremely hungry :D

Anonymous said...

Oh WDW, you sure know how to torture us! Gah, how I wish I had been one of those mature ladies who showed Jake the sexual ropes. I'd show him ropes the likes of which we've never seen! And he'd probably show me a few too, which is just fine. He's got to be one of the most beautiful and sexy men in all of Hollywood (or anywhere!), and among the most talented. To be his "main squeeze" in Rendition, or, as one of you so eloquently put it, his next stop when he gets out of prison in Brothers! No candles, bubble baths, or other acoutrements needed, just him!

Sorry to go all trashy on ya first thing in the AM, but the man does that to me. ;)

chillinwitgyllen said...

Morning everyone, WDW I always laugh when I read your comments first thing in the morning, your talking about lunch and I haven't even had breakfast yet!

I'd be one of Jakes 'mature' ladies any day. Bertie, I think you speak for all of us :)

sass said...

Hi WDW,
Catching up is so much fun! I just voted in the polls; Jake is ahead as best dramatic actor and Zodiac has moved up since yesterday.

The interviews rocked...Jake and older women...he's adorable.

Clean Jake is the most clean of all the clean dudes...now I feel silly, but happy.

Interesting article about 'The Kite Runner' film in Newsweek Dec 17th about the difficulty in filming.

Also wanted to share a soundbyte from the same magazine:

"Blog, blog, blog it all, blog it if it's big or small"

In reference to another dotcom explosion by Silicon Valley's The Richter Scales prediction of the internet.

Thought of this place when I read that.

agent_krycek said...

I remember reading in Grazia a few months ago that the young boy actors in The Kite Runner were worried about reprisals because of an incident that happens at the start of the story (I won't say anymore for those planning to read/go see it) - very sad.

Oh how I wish I was one of those older women - but if you still fancy it Jake, I could still show you a trick or two if you asked nicely ;-)

Hey everyone,

I have a message from WDW

She's going to be late with this evening's post, due to her car breaking down on the motorway. She's there now, freezing while she waits for the rescue men and their tow truck. :(

She'll be needing lots of Jake love when she gets home, so don't go too far away now!

I think she should watch some Jarhead when she gets home: Jake half-naked in the desert has got to be a good way to get the circulation going again!

xxx

chillinwitgyllen said...

Get home safe WDW, I'm sending Gyllenwaves your way :)

Thanks for the update Ruby!

Anonymous said...

Oh, take care, WDW! And think "Morocco in the Morning", that oughtta warm you up. ;)

Christie said...

Oh poor poor WDW!!! I am hoping that you get your car fixed pronto and you get home to a nice warm house, a glass of wine and some sweet Jake love very soon.

Thanks Ruby for passing on the message, I can imagine how cold she is. Jarhead will probably be a good way of warming up pretty quickly. "Morocco in the morning" sounds a good idea too, bertie knox. :)

Christie said...

CWG, and agent_krycek, I'm interested and intrigued by the articles you mention regarding The Kite Runner. Having read the book, I'm thinking of the scene that the young actors are referring to, although I could be wrong. I am very interested in seeing it, although I will probably have to take a whole box of tissues with me. And absolutely, positively NO mascara.

That puts me in mind of Jake and the "I know where you put your pens" interview. Remember that one? Oh Jake, you are a rascal. ;)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

OMG friends - just got in - anyone have a good, instant cure for hypothermia? Can someone send round Jake right now to warm me up :P The mechanic liked my Jake car keyring by the way ;)

Thanks for the Jake love ishes - off to find a big glass of wine and inject it directly into my veins.

Thank you Ruby *)

sending you warm blanket, bunny slippers and shiraz. (and of course Jake never disappoints)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Positively Pia - so good to see you too *) - I'm curled up in a big quilty with a HUGE glass of red wine and a hot water bottle. I'm still going to try and get a post up, so bear with me...

Christie said...

So glad to know you are home safe and sound WDW! What a trauma, who wants that on a cold winter's night. Glad to know you had a Jake moment on the motorway! LOL Hope the quilt, red wine and some Jake loving gets you warmed up very soon.

I'm warming up a bit now and enjoying some Jake memories.

Whut metamorphosis Anouska babe? You mean into a faithful dawg who waits by the door until WDW comes home? Just lookin' for a home. Only one a my many changes - :) :)

Anonymous said...

Love the way you find interviews and quotes no one else does. There's a lot to this guy. Great post.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the dawg, Pia - I love the dawg. :D:D

That cleanness poll - you know you could really eat your dinner off Matt Damon. I said that exact thing to my best mate about a year ago, seriously.

Oops, OT, WDW! *

Anonymous said...

Yes, Matt Damon, he's a clean machine! (OTOH a friend a mine is trumpeting the hotness of Patrick Dempsey of Greys Anatomy, hot as Jake she sez, WHUT?)

Wet Dark and Wild said...

You can eat your dinner off Matt Damon?? I love that and I'm gonna remember that quote and remind you of it, Anouska, at every opportunity :D

Patrick Dempsey is of no comparison with our Jake Pia but Ellen has a connection to the new post.

Hey LG - good to see you, friend *) Tere really is so much to Jake and my mission is to show that.

Thanks for all the info on the Kite Runner by the way. I've not had time to look at it yet but I will as I'm intrigued.

Come and chat to me on the new thread - I need warming up :\

Anonymous said...

I am glad that I wasn't too late to vote for Jake! Jake/ Zodiac is leading at the moment...
Jake 19% - on second is Christian Bale with 13%
Zodiac 19% - on second is Disturbia with 18%

I guess we couldn't vote in the "clean" thing, or was I just too late? But I don't think that there was a chance for us to participate in that vote - it was obviously decided by people who have not really a clue! Although, to their credit - Jake made at least no. 3...

And oooooooh, thank you for those gorgeous interviews with Jake! They gave me my first LOLs this morning!!!! Don't fly to the grocery store!
You just gotta love him... Sigh!

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Hey Uli! That's so cool that Jake and Zodiac are doing so well in the vote - as is only rigt of course. I reckon Jake could fly anywhere - definitely love him :)
