If there's one thing better than one trailer for Enemy, it's two trailers for Enemy. With huge thanks to IHJ, here is a second trailer for Jake Gyllenhaal's next film, out (although not too widely) on 14 March.
It's mean a while since we've seen Jake with Maggie and Peter Sarsgaard but last Thursday all three attended a fundraising event for Pussy Riot and the Voice Project at the Spotted Pig restaurant in New York City. Maggie was one of the hosts. I'm very glad to see Jake and Peter were there, too.
Last week, of course, saw the terrible news of the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, just a couple of days after the announcement that he was to direct Jake and Amy Adams in Ezekiel Moss. Yesterday (7 February), Jake, Amy and Michelle Williams were among the mourners at the private funeral. Details here.
As we move into February, Jake Gyllenhaal has gone underground. Busy at work on Prisoners in Georgia, probably, he appears to have gone underground. Occasionally a twitter glimmer may sparkle but it's fair to say that there have been more sightings of the Tower of London's headless masked prisoner ghost over recent days than there has been of Jake Gyllenhaal. Obviously, if you spend all your time in Georgia's spin classes or whole food stores then you've almost certainly seen Jake every other day but, for the rest of us, Jake is as one with Detective Loki and has gone undercover.
Glimpses of Jake's co-star, the Tuneful Hugh Jackman, have been slightly more common. Jake has, though, been seen at 'Watershed's Uptown Martini with oysters, steak tartare, jambalaya, lamb ragout, coconut cake, sweet potato creme brûlée and hot milk cake'. I have only one thing to say to that - except for the fact that Jake has clearly not lost his appetite - but sweet potato in creme brulee?? The mind boggles.
The one bit of news we do have is that the DVD and blu ray of End of Watch now has a release date in the UK and it's not too far off at all - 18 March. If you fancy it, you can get a pretty posh edition from Amazon.
In the absence of news, it falls to my lot to post a couple of videos of Jake from bygone days. I wanted to post a couple of videos from Sundance - one of the Very Good Girls premiere and the other from Lovelace. I feel that posting the latter is my civic duty because, through this video, you can see for yourself the full horror of what can happen if a Face Pet is allowed to run free and fed too much. No wonder Jake shaved his off. And there was me thinking it had something to do with Prisoners.

It's a big week for Jake Gyllenhaal and his family but I'd like to thank them for keeping it relatively low key while I had flu. Tonight, Naomi Foner's movie Very Good Girls - the film of the filmset that Jake frequently visited - has its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. There had been doubts about whether Jake would manage to be there - reminding me of last year when so many thought that Jake was there when all the time he wasn't (or was he?). This time, though, a series of tweets from excited people at Atlanta Airport makes it look as if Jake has indeed made the trip. No doubt in return for doing extra tea duty on the set of Prisoners.
Naomi has spoken a little today about what directing, a shift in her life, means to her.
'Time is not on my side. I came late to directing, although I’ve been writing screenplays for most of my life, so I am in a hurry. In my case, it was, grandma directs a movie. And that meant literally, limiting the time I got to spend with my favorite people on earth, my grand daughter Ramona, and her new sister, Gloria who arrived weeks before we began to shoot. That was a big trade off, but I am hoping that they will get to see this film, and others one day. That they will tell their own stories in some form, because grandma (and mom) keep telling theirs. It’s a struggle to balance family and work for men and women, and filmmaking is especially challenging. But it lets us touch people we would never otherwise know, while still holding our dear ones close. That seems like having your cake and eating it too.'
Of course it never rains but it pours (at least in Britain), and tonight Sundance also sees the screening of Lovelace, a film which stars Peter Sarsgaard. What a day! A big family desert reunion could be on the cards.
Sundance has been a popular film festival for Jake over the last 13 years or so, as just a quick search of the WDW archives reveals. Jake even featured in a movie shot at the Festival. Brokeback Mountain premiered at Sundance (Jake talks about that here) and Donnie Darko and Good Girls also had fine days in the sun.

Detective Loki!
This week we got our first look at Jake's new Prisoners character Detective Loki. It's a look a little reminiscent of Nailed and Love and Other Drugs but has several things going for it, not least the well-shorn face. I want to take some scissors to that bouffant though... There are a set of photos over at PoPSugar, including this below of Jake and his relatively hairy co-star, the extremely well-voiced Hugh Jackman. Interestingly, this appears to be Jake's second film character with a neck tattoo! Maybe it would be easier if Jake just had one done.
End of Watch out on Blu Ray and DVD in the US
End of Watch is out in the US on disc today. While the rest of us have a while to wait at least this means we can hear something about the quality of the features. Unfortunately, as we knew, no Jake commentary (such a loss - who can't love Jake's commentaries to Bubble Boy, Donnie Darko, Moonlight Mile and Zodiac?).
'Feature Commentary with Writer/Director David Ayer: A deeply insightful commentary. Ayer goes into a lot of detail explaining his choices for END OF WATCH.
Deleted Scenes (46:41): Seventeen deleted, extended and alternate scenes that at a lot of depth to the characters and film. Although interesting, most of these were rightfully cut to maintain focus and proper pacing. However, I think a few of these would have been OK to keep in the final cut.
Featurettes (10:59): Five very short fluff featurettes about 2 minutes each that offer nothing of much substance – “Fate with a Badge,” “In the Streets,” “Women on Watch,” “Watch Your Six” and “Honors"'

This Friday, Jake Gyllenhaal is presenting some of the scholarships at the LA Conservation Corps ceremony in LA. This weekend, though, an event takes place which may well influence what Jake is up to for the few days after that.Obviously I am purely speculating but I don't think it's beyond the realms of all possibility that Jake may attend this weekend's nuptials of good friends Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford in the English countryside.
As is my wont, this is the perfect excuse to go off tangent and post links to a couple of audio interviews Jake did for Edible Schoolyard a year ago which relate to the conservation and food growing theme and, in the second audio clip, to Jake's love of Britain and London:
'Consciously, or unconsciously, I love that country, and particularly love London itself. I just find it to be - now the food is extraordinary to be there - and I just love the people there. Most of my friends are British strangely too and I find them to be loyal, intelligent and caring people, not unlike most people around the world, but in particular I just love that town. And I love I think most of all their idea of supporting potential. Particularly in the arts. They see somebody that they see in the spirit of growing. When they see a sprout that they think might be a nice plant, they fertilise it and they support it... it doesn't have to be a full-grown plant, amazing from the outset, it's all about supporting potential and I really respect that about that culture and them and I felt greatly supported by them in so many ways. London was the first city that really supported Donnie Darko, a movie that I did. I feel a great love for them.'

With the agility and speed of a modern day Scarlet Pimpernel, Jake Gyllenhaal was one minute in San Francisco and the next he was back in LA. On Sunday evening tweets put Jake on a plane back to Burbank, on which he seemed to cause a little flurry of excitement. But before the flight back, there were sightings of Jake all over San Francisco - hiking in the Marin Headlands, buying kale at the market, dining out at Hapa Ramen, in bars, and...., I think this one deserves a dramatic pause.....
and another pause...
Getting a shave. Yep, San Francisco is good for Jake. It gives him shaving urges: 'The trip to the barber was more exciting than normal, since we just missed Jake Gyllenhall getting a shave, apparently.' Let's just hope it wasn't too drastic.
Hopefully, now that Jake's back in LA, it won't be too long before we can judge the results.
Peter Lovelace
Meanwhile, talking of facial hair, Peter Sarsgaard has been spotted on the set of Linda Lovelace. Peter plays the husband of pornstar Linda (Amanda Seyfried) and there are no prizes for guessing in which decade it is set. Don't say I didn't warn you... Let's just hope this isn't the look Jake went for. Source.

As we immerse ourselves deeper and further into the world of mysteries that will become known to future generations as '2012', one thing hasn't changed from the end of last year - the Jake Drought. Yes, at the moment it's easier to see a flying duckbilled platybus than it is to espy Jake Gyllenhaal amongst the coffee bars of American cities. As a result, this post takes us back to 2005 when Jake was, as I remember, everywhere. Sometimes at the same time. On one of those days, Jake attended the Variety Screening Series gala for Jarhead along with Peter Sarsgaard and Sam 'Bond Director' Mendes.
Back in January 2008, four years ago almost to the day strangely enough, I did a major post on this screening - do read it here - but links in it subsequently packed in. I have replaced the main podcasting link which will let you listen to the full Q&A (and it's a goodie) but a video of part of it is now available. And that wasn't originally featured. That must have been quite a Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the Sarsgaard-Gyllenhaal NYC household. Following more speculation in the rag mags, reps confirmed what most of us had suspected for a little while, that Jake will have another niece or nephew to make rubbish pancakes for and push on swings and clamber about on pirate ships with. Many congratulations to Maggie and Peter and to the whole family. No doubt, as we speak, Jake and Peter are scouring the shops of NYC for Maggie's favourite cheesecake.
We don't have any new photos of Jake and so it's good news that we have more new old pictures from IHJ. These photos below were taken at the 2002 Paper Magazine Party for Pedro Almodovar and feature the scarily-eyed Debbie Harry. Many thanks again to IHJ for looking after us all during the Gyllendrought.
Back in December 2010 - almost a year ago if you can believe it - there was much excitement when Jake was seen out having dinner with Bono and The Edge at Sean's Panorama by Bondi Beach in Sydney. There's a link here which demonstrates that even in the same article it couldn't be decided who the girl was with Bono. We have some more pictures from that dinner as well, which allowed Jake to exercise his face muscles while they were still beard-free.
WDW Oxford in Egypt Interlude
Last weekend, Oxford's famous Ashmolean Museum reopened its Egypt galleries after a few years of renovation. The opening has been all over the media here because it's the largest collection of Egyptian artefacts outside Egypt. I popped down there today to take a look (and have a piece of cake). Spectacular...
Let's start with a test: What makes a good day? Winning a tenner (or more) on the lottery? Getting nuzzled by your favourite cat? Sunshine dappling through your curtains and bathing you in unseasonable warmth? A big bowl of hot veggie chilli? Or seeing Jake Gyllenhaal standing opposite you on a train in NYC while reading a script and looking ultra lovely in a white t-shirt? No prizes for guessing which one this lucky blogger Rachel went for. Read her post here. And what a great picture! Rather peculiarly, this event didn't seem to make the day for the chap on the right. Mind you, a Jake Gyllenhaal encounter is best appreciated when you're conscious.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Maggie took Hysteria to the Rome International Film Festival. If there's one thing better than Maggie on the red carpet, it's Maggie and Peter Sarsgaard on the red carpet, resulting in one of my favourite photos of the year, here via Just Jared.

After reports of Jake Gyllenhaal having been seen in 9 out of every 10 organic cafes in the city of New York, it's good news indeed that this weekend we get our first glimpse for quite a while. This enables us to check on the progress of the Hair and the Face Pet, both of which seem to be in recovery after the devastation wreaked on them by End of Watch. It's also a bit of a red letter day for another reason. On attending a service for Yom Kippur with the family yesterday (including the very gorgeous Peter Sarsgaard), Jake gave many of us our wish and let us see him with his 'proper' glasses on. Not those modern fad things known as sun shades, but bona fide specs that you read books with and do newspaper crosswords with. Looks like Jake has also taken up a new form of transport.
I hope that all readers who celebrate had a great day too!
Earlier in the day, Jake decided to make Central Park look extra lovely.
On Thursday (6 October), Jake took his muscles for a smoothie and a laugh at Organic Avenue, which specialises in the 'food of love' and is not only organic but also vegan.

This last weekend Jake Gyllenhaal had a break from his police training and filming schedules to pop over to that most beautiful of places Hawaii. The occasion was the marriage of his father Stephen to film maker Kathleen Mann. Maggie was there too, looking stunning in a summer dress that conjures up all sorts of images of flowers, sunshine and holidays. Jake, however, was put in brown. There's a full account here with pictures. Here are a few. There are many others here, do take a look.
I would like to implore all friends and relatives who are getting married to do so in Hawaii and fly me over. I'll take the Maldives at a push.
Peter Sarsgaard was unable to be there because his publicity tour for The Green Lantern continues - and seems to have gone on forever. At the end of last week he was in Madrid.
Blockbuster's early release of Source Code in the UK
As previously mentioned, Source Code is in the shops in the US tomorrow but, while we have to wait over here, Blockbuster will be getting it into its shops early on 29 July. There are details about that and a competition to win a copy - over at Blockbuster and at ManMadeMovies.
And finally...
I'm off for a few days holiday with bucket and spade and a daft hat. I am not, unfortunately, Hawaii bound. The southern coast is the goal. Because I'm going to be camping (shudders), I may have internet, not to mention electricity, issues at times, but I will do my best! Please all do a sun dance for me...
I'm back, having spent two days camping in the wilds on a rugged Welsh mountainside, enduring the elements, eating whatever food I was able to scramble together, surrounded by wild beasts. A case of Woman Vs Wild. The similarities between my camping trip with Jake Gyllenhaal and Bear Grylls' foray into an Icelandic glacier is obvious. Although, to be fair, camping over Hay on Wye on a green hillside, popping in to bookshops, eating pub grub, looking at the sheep and wild horses, staring at the ice in a drink, while being bombarded with heatwave temperatures, is a tad different from what awaited Jake.
Bear has revealed today 'We had a jumbo jet blown sideways across the airport, whilst I was 5,000-feet up a mountain.' Pah! What's that compared to having your hand licked by a tubby spaniel when you're minding your own business and putting up your tent?

Interlude - Woman Vs Wild
Over the last couple of days I've been roughing it* (*actually, not really roughing it), on a motorbike camping tour of the sunsoaked Welsh Marches. This being the Welsh borders it did of course rain at one point but it stayed hot while it did it. Yesterday was the hottest day of the year and it brought the grockels out to the Cotswolds - first stop Bibury.
Nest was Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire, a lived in castle full of Tudor and Stuart furnishings (some belonging to Sir Francis Drake). But most famously this is the castle where Edward II came a cropper in the 1320s.
Tintern Abbey not only had a beautiful abbey against a breathtaking backdrop of cliffs and trees and a river, it had cricket.

Other places we visited included the beautiful and remote Black Mountains, White Castle, the most hidden and unfindable castle in Britain and Llanthony Priory.
21 June was the summer solstice and, obviously, if there's anywhere you should be on that day it's among the stones and crowds of Stonehenge in the rain. However, it's widely accepted that the second best place to be on Midsummer (and you can ask Bear Grylls this) is among the eateries of Los Angeles. Therefore, Jake Gyllenhaal popped out to Ammo Cafe in Hollywood. The Face Pet went too.
Born to Run
The July issue of Menswear is looking particularly good. Peter Sarsgaard graces its cover and photos of him feature in many of its pages.
Apart from talking about Green Lantern - and the difficulties of getting into that rather big head, Peter also talked about a future project and it's one that we have been following here for quite a wile - Born to Run.
Peter revealed that he is not only directing it - and it's his directorial debut - he's also writing it. This means that he will not be starring in it himself. We've talked quite a bit here about who will feature in Born to Run, ever since the Leadville 100 race in August last year, when both Jake and Peter were seen observing the race and Chris McDougall, the author of Born to Run. With Peter now removing himself from the part, who better to take the role than Jake? Especially with Peter behind the camera directing him. Definitely one to continue to watch.
And finally...
Duncan Jones has tweeted this evening: 'Hey Japan! It looks like I WILL be coming out to Tokyo at least, to do press for the film! Yay! Will see if I can get to another city too.' This is great news and must come as some reward to Japan for the late release of Source Code - 28 October no less. Do keep an eye on Man Made Movies for release dates and much more to do with Duncan.
Yesterday, Jake Gyllenhaal and his End of Watch co-star Michael Pena took to the Hollywood Hills. What with this and the Kung Fu and Karate, it would appear that End of Watch isn't just about police officers filling in the paperwork. It also gives Jake and Michael a chance to get to know one another better and compare arms.
Bonus points for Jake who managed to run the miles while completely ignoring the alien trying to burst through his chest. That's what I call a pro and no mistake.
Talking of bravery and fortitude, later that evening (15 June), Jake was seen by a Facebooker at the Graumans Chinese Theater at the premiere of Peter Sarsgaard's movie Green Lantern: 'I just got a text from my sister that she's sitting three rows in front of Jake Gyllenhaal at the Green Lantern premier!' No sign of Jake on show, but here is Peter on the carpet which, missing a trick surely?, was black. Source. And more pictures here.
