Down to earth, genuinely cool, cute, the next James Bond - GQ sums up Jake Gyllenhaal

There was only one place not to be last night, and that was the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards in Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal was not there - due to a prior engagement to avoid Twitters and Tweeters on any side of the Atlantic. Neverthless, his absence was a highlight of the glamorous event due to his appearance in a video that also featured the similarly absent Tom Cruise.

One person who did attend the event reported: 'I thought the most hilarious bit of the evening was the video made for GQ creative director Jim Moore in which Jake Gyllenhaal had a cameo where he acts like he was very unhappy for not being on the cover of GQ. It was priceless!'

It is always good to hear Jake's comedy powers praised and I hope we get to see this video ourselves one of these days. I also hope GQ take note and put Jake on their cover at least every other month.

Jim Moore was once interviewed for an article in USA Today about Hollywood men sporting a stubbly, rugged look and he had this to say about Jake: 'He can handle the five o'clock shadow and the full beard and still look cute. He looked like the ultimate movie star at the Oscars. He looked like he could be the next James Bond.'

GQ is a big fan of Jake's, with its Editor in Chief Jim Nelson singling out working with Jake as a high point of his time with the magazine: 'Nobody is more down-to-earth and genuinely cool than Jake Gyllenhaal. I just like him a lot personally. I feel that he has not been affected much by stardom.' GQ, of course, co-hosted a screening of Zodiac, with afterparty, in NYC, which Jake attended.

I love these pics, he's at his most attractive at red carpet events, he's got the born movie star look. But it's nice to know he's down to earth, too. I also like him in jeans and a tee shirt. One extreme or the other! :) I've never seen anyone rock the 5 o'clock shadow like he does. It's extremely attractive and masculine - and his eyes just knock me out, and I love the contrast of blue eyes, dark hair and fair skin. My very favorite pic of him is your signature BAFTA pic, WDW. :) Robert Patterson, although young, is very interesting looking and attractive, and I think he'll go places, but the handsomest man in the world is Jake, IMO. Sorry to gush! lol

Hi there Bertie! And looking good - love the pic :)

Those GQ pics - in the white t-shirt and then the ones for 2007 in the house. SImply beautiful. I love your description of Jake :) BAFTA Jake is so special to me and my WDW pic is my favourite Jake picture too - Jake shines :D OMG, I'm gushing too now!

Good night, wet dark!

I want to see the video!

In this interview he speaks of father and mother? The father found a great woman or something?

Night Monica :D Is this the interview you've been translating? I want to see the video too :) I love to see Jake doing comedy.

LOL! Love all the gushing. But it's Jake's fault, you know, it can't be helped. :)

It's always hard for me to pick a favorite picture but my two favorite red carpet Jakes are Bafta 2006 (the year he won for BBM is 2006, right?) and the SAGS of the same year. I could (and have!) look at those pictures for hours. He looks as comfortable in a tuxedo as he does in jeans and a T-shirt and I can't decide which is sexier. Thank god I don't have to! :D

I hope we get to see that CFDA awards video someday, Jake can be so funny.

I know just what you mean, Olympia :D I can never decide which I prefer - Jake in jeans and a white t-shirt or Jake on a red carpet. I think I'll take them both. Jake has a real talent for comedy. No harm in a spot of gushing, after all, it's all Jake's fault *)

I said it to you earlier, WDW, and I'll say it again...we need to see this video!!! If these people were smart they'd get it up on the internet ASAP - good publicity for GQ and all!

Great pictures (as usual) - thanks for the early evening pick me up!

As for Jake being down to earth? Absofreakinglutely! Almost unbelievably so in fact!

:-)

Definitely, BBMISwear! Great publicity for GQ :D Hopefully it'll appear and/or we'll hear more details. I love the description of Jake and I love how much of the time Jake can live his life away from the public eye - although I'm torn as I miss the pictures very much - and then POW! Jake on screen, at an event etc and he knocks me out with his humour, wit, talent, beauty and hotness. I'm certainly gushing this evening - but that's Jake's fault :-)

No, I'm referring to the interview for GQ.
Because I don't remember every detail of his interviews

Good morning :))
What can i say when Bertie said all.:)
Robert to my opinion is handsome guy but still empty guy.. who is to ordinary and doesn't have that sensual and breathtaking look like Jake. I watched video when Jake received BAFTA he was so confused and his childish smile was so sweet. Heath was so proud on him.

Now back to work...
I wish you one great day :)))

Morning Monica! I think it's time I read that interview again :D I love that edition of GQ - it's framed on my wall.

Hi there Flower :D I do agree with you - I can't see any actor that comes close to Jake. It was so wonderful when he won the BAFTA :D

Have a great day everyone!

Just one more question.. :))
Pleaseee...

Do you think that my English is good i am so glad to write here but yet i always think that i make too many mistakes..
I can't helped.. :))

Wet Dark and Wild said...

Flower, your English is great! And it's a pleasure to have you here :D Mistakes don't matter at all - I make them all over the place :)

WDW Thank you sooo much..
Now i feel big relief. :)
And you sooo fast..

Good morning, wet dark!

Flower, we have the same problem with English.
I remember the Bafta. Good times!
Heath so proud of Jake!
I don't know if you saw, but here are two videos of the movie Brokeback in Venice:

Thank you for the videos Monica! I had never seen the second one. It's always funny to see the difference between Heath and Jake at these things, Heath always fidgets, he can't seem to help it. :) And it's the first time I saw Ang with his family, that was nice.

Have a nice day everyone!

Hi Monica! Thanks so much for the videos - they're fabulous :D I'd not seen the second one. Have a good day :)

Hey Olympia :D It is nice to see Ang with his family.

Is it Friday yet?

Jake and GQ...a perfect combination. :)

I really hope we get to see that video Jake did for the CFDA awards.

Also, Londoners, be on the lookout, Jake was just in Kensington Park!

Great stuff here today! Thank you for that link to the adorable picture of Jake "on the ship playground" Get Real! I am crossing my fingers there will be more soon that include Ramona! This is what we need more of...sightings with PROOF. I feel bad he "flinched" at the camera - this is what it's getting like for him and that's too bad (but also goes with the territory). A double edged sword this Hollywood thing.

I love the BBM Venice vids Monica! I will never get tired of the photo call vid - it literally brought tears to my eyes when I watched again today as I miss that time of Jake and Heath together so, so much. I'm also seeing the catwalk vid for the first time like others here - a crazy red carpet indeed - but so great to see him doing the red carpet scene with Maggie like they use to quite often! I just love when they hang out together!

Hoping for more sightings (with pictures)! Eyes peeled everyone!!

:-)

Thank you for the new vids Monica, that was beautiful, bittersweet and unexpected. I'd seen some of the photocall before but not the other one with Maggie.

Jake in Kensington??! Ah, so close and yet so far. Come up further North Jake, there's more to the UK than just London.

Like you WDW, love to see him enjoying life without cameras but love the little unexpected sightings that pop up every now and then. He looks so cute and boyish yet manly in that pic, like he relaxed when he realised it was just regular folk.

Love that boy xxx

Also, wanted to say a huge thank you to Monica for that BBM video! I had never seen the catwalk one. Lovely.

Thanks so much Get Real! A great picture and a great sighting :D I love the thought of Jake so close and I'm sure he's a big help for Maggie and Peter as she works and also heads up to Edinburgh.

Hey there BBMISwear! A sighting with a pic, and a good pic too - perfect :D Jake had a lovely day for it - yesterday was beautiful. The videos are wonderful. I've been watching them properly now I'm home. Kind of dreaming about how nice it would be to see Jake and Maggie together on the Edinburgh red carpet tonight. Those were great days :-)

Hi Sheba! I love these sightings too - you never know where Jake will pop up and what he'll be doing - this was perfect!

I'd not seen that either, Get Real! Loved it. Huge thanks and hugs to Monica for the vids and to Get Real for the sighting!

I was poking around in my room this morning, and came across my copy of that GQ that had Jake on the cover. What a coincidence!

There are no particularly prominent actors named Robert Patterson, as far as I can see. Did you mean *Pattinson?" The one who played the vampire in "Twilight"? Do we have to compare him to Jake? That seems like a guaranteed way to become unhappy. Nobody benefits. Besides, he's 23, almost 6 years younger than Jake. It's still possible that he will change a lot by the time he's 30.
