Love and Other Drugs update and Swoff Night can mean only one thing, all in the name of democracy (of course)

Tonight's post is interrupted before it's posted with an update on Love and Other Drugs, courtesy of TNMC: 'Jamie Reidy (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a charmer and a talker who is never still. He does not live up to his family's expectations of him or to the successes of his siblings. Jamie jumps from job to job, and eventually finds his niche in the pharmaceutical sales world. It isn't an easy start for him, until he is able to use his polished skills with women to sell the new drug, Viagra, released by his company Pfizer. Meanwhile Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway) is a pretty young woman with art-girl hair, a pugnacious manner and warm eyes. She consults Dr. Knight regarding her Parkinson's disease, while Jamie pretends to be his intern. Against her better judgment, she falls in love with Jamie.' Jake and Anne playing a pair of lovers on screen? Perfect! The date of 21 September is still there. Sounds like a goer...


On with the post...

I don't want to speak too soon, but while there'a lull between rumours of possible movie roles, I thought I'd dash out a post that is inspired by a role that Jake Gyllenhaal actually got, in a movie that actually came out. Tonight, Jarhead is given its premiere on UK terrestrial TV and it's about time. So, for all Brits, 10.35pm on ITV1 is Swoff Time. This is also timely - perhaps intentionally - because Sam Mendes and wife Kate Winslet are currently walking red carpets for Away We Go (featuring Maggie Gyllenhaal). Sam, Kate and Maggie are expected to headline the Edinburgh Film Festival this year when it opens on 17 June.


Where was I? Oh yes, Swoff, and he reminds me of something else - the bit of Jake that tied for third place in the Jake's Bits Poll of last week.



Obviously, if it were not for the heady responsibility of electoral due process, I would not now be focusing our attention on Jake's Derriere. This is all done in the name of Democracy and is a direct result of scientic analysis and survey. If only David Attenborough could be persuaded to narrate a natural history programme on the subject.

The Vote

Talking of democracy - today (4 June) in 1913, suffragette Emily Wilding Davison threw herself in front of George V's horse at the Epsom Derby, all in her fight to get women the right to vote. She died four days later. Her sacrifice is remembered and it's appropriate that the day this year falls on the UK council and European elections, also parliamentary elections for many of us. There is plenty of time left to get to the polling stations and use that right to vote. Jake would agree - here are some incentives! Jake could hug or carry you all the way to the booth.
