A new poster and trailer for Prisoners and Jake Gyllenhaal drops out of Mississippi Grind

The good news this week comes in the shape of a second trailer for Prisoners (via Rope of Silicon) and a poster (via IHJ) that would look good on any wall... (see below)



But brace yourselves - there is some less than good news in Gyllendom today. Jake Gyllenhaal is now not Mississippi bound. His place in Mississippi Grind, which seemed so sure, is now taken by Ryan Reynolds - more details here. This is a big surprise because Jake wasn't just set to act in the film, he was also down to produce it, with filming due to start any day. In fact, filming was supposed to have begun in the spring. Clearly, something wasn't right. Does Jake have something else planned for the summer? Or is he biding his time, planning new projects, while he waits to promote An Enemy and Prisoners later this year. It's unlikely that Into the Woods will take much of Jake's time so we must and see what happens. It is a disappointment.

Talking of An Enemy and Prisoners, the speculation has begun about the content for this season's festivals. With thanks to a commentor for the tip, Hitfix predicts that Prisoners and An Enemy will both feature at Venice (28 August - 7 September) even though they are expected to appear at Toronto (5 - 15 September). Films, actors and directors can and do appear at both festivals, as we know from Brokeback for example.  Playlist adds that An Enemy is expected to have a Venice premiere. Whereas Venice's rules insist that films must premiere at the festival, Toronto is less rigid, again supporting the speculation that both could show at Venice and Toronto. It certainly looks as if both could show in Toronto so the question is will they, and Jake, first make an appearance in Venice?



Buzz surrounds Jake for writers - the author of Revenge Wears Prada, Lauren Weisberger, is keen to see Jake work with Anne Hathaway if her sequel to Devil Wears Prada grows movie wings. “Jake Gyllenhaal!” the 36-year-old tells Magic FM. “I love him and I love Anne and Jake’s on-screen chemistry." No doubt about that at all.

Anne Hathaway's been talking about Jake Gyllenhaal and I'm sure it'll come as a surprise to no-one - or at least to those who've witnessed just a moment or two of that Love and Other Drugs chemistry - Anne has nothing but praise for her twotimes co-star: 'I know actors always say this about each other but he really is lovely. I worked with him on 'Brokeback Mountain' and then five years later on 'Love and Other Drugs'; he was a great guy then and still is. He's a real person.'

A WDW Coastal Interlude

For the next part of the post, I beg your indulgence because it's Interlude Time. The promise of those rarest of summer gifts - sunshine and heat - persuaded Mr WDW and I to take off for the most beautiful south western reaches of England. We set off for Lime Regis (I have a real weakness for The French Lieutenant's Woman and Persuasion) but in the end we went a couple of counties further on to northern Cornwall. I am now back, complete with a fetchingly erratic sunburn pattern, an empty wallet, and a full camera.

Lyme Regis, possibly the most beautiful and historic seaside town imaginable - unfortunately I didn't discover a new species of dinosaur.






Branscombe in Devon is one of the most beautiful villages I've ever seen. Over the years we've visited it several times, paying respects to its stunning Norman Church and its Fountain Head pub. And then there's Beer (I cannot resist a town called Beer - even one that serves the most revolting coffee known to man - clearly I should have stuck to its ale).



From there it was Padstow - home of Rick Stein, the famous fish chef (his cafe was locked to stop more people getting in - an unusual move for a cafe), and the pasty capital of the universe.



Port Isaac is the home of the favourite UK tv show Doc Martin but it's far better than that.





I used to think of Tintagel as being the extremely tacky home of the Arthur legend - you can barely move without tripping over Ye Olde Merlin Post Office or Ye Olde Arthur Car Park but now I know it's much more than that - the castle was built on an island at the end of the promontory and there is nothing for it but steps and steep climbs to reach it and its heights. At the top, I fell down and had to eat a banana...





Other places I'd like to show you are Boscastle, ravaged in the flash flood of 2004 and now recovered and beautiful, the gorgeous inn of St Kews, hidden away, and the stunning St Swithin Church at Launcells, the 'least worst spoilt church in Cornwall' according to Betjeman.




If you can get to Dorset, Devon and Cornwall do! Even if it's in a tent...

Source Code is out in Australia and NZ! Jake Gyllenhaal on Sunrise and some new stills

Source Code is now open for business in Australia and New Zealand! Tomorrow it reaches Poland. I'd hate to distract anyone in these countries from going to see this critically acclaimed film (not least because it may be the last time you see Jake Gyllenhaal on the big screen for a while - and definitely the last time you'll see him on the big screen for a while with hair and not wearing big boots) but here is a post. Jake started Australia's Source Code day with a TV appearance (pre-recorded) on Sunrise. You can watch the video here.


Am I the only person to wonder where this US woman kept her injured kangaroo? Did she take it back on the plane with her? Did she have to buy an extra seat?

The opening of Source Code has led to the re-release of this interview across Australia's media. It's definitely worth another look.


McKino

The other day we learned that Jake may well have popped in to the New Orleans' McDonalds. Horror (mostly only from me) ensued. With some kind of kismet comes the news from that you can find in German McDonalds issues of the Kino magazine with Jake on the cover! This comment led me to the Kino site where I found this brief video about Jake's view of Anne Hathaway's Oscars.


Vote!

Today is election day in the UK - not a general election but votes for electoral reform (our first referendum in my voting lifetime and local elections). It seems fitting therefore that PoPSugar have urged me to encourage everyone to vote for Jake in their new poll for all time favourite stars. Be enfranchised! You know what Jake would say... VOTE!


And finally...

Jake is loved by someone who won American Idol once (having never heard of the 'someone' or seen the 'Idol'). Nevertheless, all GyllenLove is GoodLove.

Jake Gyllenhaal confirms his next project is David Ayer's cop drama End of Watch

While talking about Source Code - or more precisely, how proud he is of 'ballsy' Anne Hathaway for co-hosting the Oscars - Jake Gyllenhaal confirmed to Access Hollywood that his next film is indeed David Ayer's End of Watch. Just last week, Jake said that he was excited about what was next but he was unable to talk about it. Clearly, that embargo is now lifted and we can now get down to looking ahead to The Next Project. It sounds like filming is about to begin and so we can hope that, after all, there will be a Jake film on our screens in 2012.



Not much is known about End of Watch, except that (according to IMDb) it's a 'drama centered on the long-term friendship and partnership between two cops' in LA. Director and writer David Ayer is known for his gritty LA Cop dramas. One hopes that, if Jake has signed on, there must be something a little different about this one. And, on a more serious point, are we talking plain clothes or uniform here?

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway get sporty - and Enter the Source Code

While Jake Gyllenhaal and Duncan Jones pack their bags and head off to Austin for the Source Code packed weekend (26 degrees centigrade forecast there for tomorrow so some suntan lotion and a big floppy hat might be in order), here is a brief interlude. It comes in the shape of a new Love and Other Drugs interview with Jake and Anne Hathaway and within it you will find some curious sporting metaphors. Jake also compares working with Annie to log rolling. Clearly logs are a lot more attractive in Hollywood than round these parts...



When Prince of Persia came out you may recall that Disney set up a smartphone PoP game that would be triggered if you walked past certain posters. Source Code also has a game - Enter the Source Code - and you can now play that using Facebook and on your phone. As is the way with these things, I believe the prizes are restricted to inhabitants of the US. There are more details about the development of the 20-minute game here.

The morning after - The Oscar recap featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathway and a cast of thousands...

What a night. While I wait for the coffee to have some affect and contemplate where in the office might be the most suitable place for a discreet nap, there's time for a look at what was for me the highlight in a ceremony that went on for an extraordinary amount of time: the Jake Gyllenhaal Bit.


Jake and Amy Adams (a nominee herself and wearing an extremely long dress)presented the awards for Best Documentary Short Subject and Best Live Action Short Film. The latter went to Luke Matheny for 'God of Love'. He also got one of the biggest laughs of the night. "I should have gotten a haircut."


As for the important stuff - what Jake was wearing - we hear from JJ that 'Jake wore a black made-to-measure Salvatore Ferragamo tuxedo, with double breasted jacket and gros grain details, paired with a pair of black leather Tramezza lace-up shoes.'


As mentioned in last night's update, Jake was able to share a moment with nominee Michelle Williams as well as her partner for the evening Busy Philipps.




Jake was also photographed with another of his co-stars, Gwyneth Paltrow, who had some rather unsettling news for Jake... 'Gwyneth Paltrow, apparently a bit nervous about performing the Oscar-nominated song from "Country Strong," crossed paths with Jake Gyllenhaal, about 30 minutes before Sunday's show started. "Hey, I'm sitting right behind you," he said. "Oh good, I'll throw up on you then," she replied.'


At 5:07pm (still a long, long way to go): 'There's major mingling inside the theatre now. On one side, Colin Firth kisses Amy Adams on the cheek. In the centre, Hugh Jackman is shown to his front-row seat before bouncing away. On the other side, Jake Gyllenhaal greets Marisa Tomei and Hilary Swank. "We're sitting next to each other," Swank excitedly tell Gyllenhaal.' Lucky Hilary! There were some other familiar faces too.







As for the Oscars themselves, take a look here at the opening skit by James Franco an Anne Hathaway. It's a rusty version but well worth a look if you haven't seen it.

[Updated] Jake Gyllenhaal to present two Oscars with Amy Adams (and gets a haircut)

Yesterday (25 February) Jake Gyllenhaal was seen leaving a salon in LA. So, with the Oscars just a day away, Jake can now cross 'get a haircut' off his To Do List. We now know that Jake will be presenting two Oscars. According to Deadline, Jake and Amy Adams will 'present the Best Documentary Short Subject and Best Live Action Short Film Oscars' somewhere between Anne Hathaway's second and third costume change. I'm hoping to be livestreaming the red carpet for the Oscars here on WDW tomorrow night.

Jake Gyllenhaal in LA 22 February and some Love And Other Drugs Blu-ray moments

Jake Gyllenhaal was seen out and about at the Four Seasons Hotel in LA today (22 February), sporting a look that no-one else can do quite as well as he can. Source.


My Love and Other Drugs Blu-Ray arrived today from the US, a week ahead of schedule. I'm delighted to report that Mr WDW loved it and that, while there is no commentary and the documentary features are short to say the least, there are three deleted scenes. I don't want to give the game away and so, just as a taster here are some very poor pictures that I took from these. It's interesting that these scenes contained more than one shot from the trailer, as you'll see below.








Among the brief documentaries is a discussion by Ed Zwick about his actors, including the 'utterly engaging and really quite delightful' Jake. He talks about a photograph he kept from the shoot - you can see it below. This was taken when the cameras stopped rolling in between takes and its affection and intimacy are genuine and real.


I'm crook at the moment with a bad neck so please forgive the awkward angle at which I wrote this post.
