[Updated Update:] You know what they say, you can never update a Jake Gyllenhaal post too many times, and proving that ancient adage right here are the beautiful, extraordinary and very uncomfortable Prince of Persia costumes currently being exhibited at D23 Expo. This reminds me of the other traditional saying, passed down through the generations: 'Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise.' Many thanks to Screencrave for the wonderful pictures and the coverage.
At the risk of updating an updated update, here are some closer pictures of these amazing costumes courtesy of Latino Review.
On with the post (again...)
It is a truth universally acknowledged that encountering Jake Gyllenhaal unexpectedly (or expectedly for that matter) can have a detrimental effect on one's health and nerves. I can myself vouch for this, having suffered flu (twice), Chicken Pox, a dislocated toe, near hypothermia, suspected appendicitis and more than one hangover, as a direct result of seeing Jake Gyllenhaal in person. I'm assured that a vaccine is currently in development.
This post has been edited by request and I apologise for any upset caused.
However, forewarned is forearmed, and today there was a report that for one day, during the last week of September, Love and Other Drugs filming will take place at the former Aliquippa Hospital in Pittsburgh. If you think you may be susceptible to the GyllenVirus, avoid this area, especially if you have any involvement whatsoever with coffee.
The good news is that this is a former hospital - a remedy may be at hand in the case of any medical emergency. The bad news is that this is a wet scene. So, not only is there the threat of Jake Gyllenhaal being filmed wet (I repeat, being filmed wet), which would clearly exaggerate any symptoms, you may also get a cold. Don't say you haven't been warned.
Now that the serious public health warning is out of the way, I can get on with the post.
It will not have escaped your attention that Jake is soon to appear on our 20 foot theatre screens as the Prince of Persia. Tomorrow, the first proper look at the film will take place at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Fans will be able to see exclusive footage (even an actual clip, maybe?) from the movie during a presentation that will include Nicholas Cage. Let us all keep our fingers crossed that we get to hear something about this tomorrow, and I don't mean Nicholas Cage. You can follow events here.
I know that bench...
Despite the huge wide appeal of Prince of Persia, Jake still continues to be seen by many as the Indie King. This was affirmed in an interesting blog article and interview with independent filmmaker Joe Leonard. On being reminded of how unfair it is that good stories often get little money, compared to the big summer blockbusters, and how they are often ignored or even never made in the first place, Joe replied 'I do think there's a place commercially for good stories that are character-based -- but it's a hard business, and the more arty you get, the less likely you are to find your way into a big budget or big return. I do know that actors want to do good work, though -- and that's an ace in the hole. Jake Gyllenhaal doesn't necessarily want to do "Scary Movie 9." So if your script is good enough and he gets his hands on it somehow, I like to think that you have a shot at making an ambitious character movie. Then suddenly, if Jake Gyllenhaal is involved, raising money and finding distribution works with an extra set of zeros.'
It works both ways. Having popular, mainstream films under one's belt as an actor leaves the door open for other opportunities.
You will have noticed that this post is illustrated with photographs of Jake from Moonlight Mile. The blame for this can be placed firmly on the shoulders of the Beatles, who have taken over the world this week (even space). If it were not for money issues, we would have seen Joe and Bertie slowly dance to Baby's in Black and not Moonlight Mile. However, the song and title may have changed, but Jake kept the haircut.
Opinion is still divided on whether this is Paul McCartney pictured with Jake at Cannes back in 2007.
I knew it must be Beatles Day when I walked into my local HMV store today but first had to cross the Abbey Road zebra crossing.
This post is available in mono and stereo.
Updated to add: On 3 September, proving that there is more to Jake's diet than caffeine and veg, Jake and Reese took the kids for frozen yoghurt at Twist in Brentwood. We now have the pictures - more at IHJ. Thanks to them!
Pictures by IHJ and WDW, lyrics by Lennon and McCartney.

Thanks WDW for this info. I remembered the Disney expo was going to be this month but I forgot it was this weekend. I'll be missing it of course (just like I'll be missing the Hampton FF next month they'll be showing Imaginarium on Oct 11th or 12th, whichever day is their closing day)
At least I know I'll be seeing POP next May
sweetpea
Hi Sweetpea :) At least we'll have plenty of coverage from Anaheim. May is on the way :D I can't believe how quickly it's coming around.
Wow, lots of great nfo in this post. Jake does look like a Beatle, like Paul McCartney, he's got the eyes, the look. Baby's In Black is one of my absolute faves. :)
I'd probably be nervous seeing him too, but I'd probably blurt out somoething like "You were so amazing in Brokeback Mountain!" ;)
Hi Anon! Baby's in Black is from one of my favourite Beatles albums. Jake really does look the part :D
I'm unable to blurt out anything but 'Jake, I love you!' Well, at least it's true!
LOL at that poor check out person! I wonder if that happens to Jake a lot? I bet he would have a lot of stories to tell about the reaction some people have when they see him. Someone should walk ahead of him at all times with a sign: "Warning! Devastatingly beautiful human being passing! Look at your own risk!" That would give a chance to people to prepare themselves. On the other hand, you were prepared and see what good it did you, poor WDW! :DDD
We get a wet Jake in LOD? I'm liking this movie more and more!

if Jake Gyllenhaal is involved, raising money and finding distribution works with an extra set of zeros.
aw.nice to know Jake's name means so much.reminds me of Jake's stages of fame in Hollywood.it's "get me Jake Gyllenhaal!" :]
Hi Gretchen! That's really good to hear, isn't it? :D
I just updated the post (for the second time) with pics from D23 of the AMAZING PoP costumes!
it's funny now we get to see what costumes Jake wore and then recently we got to see the costume that Heath wore in Casanova
Did you get to see them in person?
sweetpea
May I say that that mannequin doesn't do the PoP Prince Danstan's clothes justice? *g*
Jake in Pittsburgh! I can't wait for "Love and Other Drugs" to start filming, there are lots of rapports between jake and Anne, they will make a great film together. that pic where those cops who "sandwiched" Jake look like of cozy... lol.
it's good that indie directors know that Jake is still interested in a good story, whatever budget it is. I don't want Jake to completely lose his indie root, and I think he always has his eyes set on getting critical acclaims as well as box office.
Brothers is not in LFF *sighs*... I guess at least I'll get my annual Atom Egoyan feast. I'll catch "An Education" as well.
I couldn't, Sweetpea, beacuse of my Boston trip.
These PoP costumes are AMAZING!
Hey Winterbird! Y'know, I thought that about the mannequin too :D
Yep, that's a cosy pic Jake's in with the cops :) I'm hoping for some good on set pics with Anne too.
I was very sorry about Brothers not being a LIFF. You do know that you can't go and see An Education without me!!!! I cannot wait to see that film :D
Wow, these costumes are beautiful! I love them, especially Princess Tamina's. Her's has a lot of motion to it, even on a mannequin. And of course, Dastan's. Can't wait. :)
I wonder if Jake would ever play Paul McCartney. Sigh.
Bertie
Hi Bertie! I think the costumes are stunning. I could look at those pictures for hours. I'm so excited about this film - here's hoping we hear something about what appens at Expo tomorrow.
When I was doing this post, the images of Moonlight Mile Jake really reminded me of Paul McCartney. I would love to see a good film of that career.
It's been such a good evening, catch up with you all tomorrow, good night!
I didn't feel sick when I encountered Jake. Maybe that means I'm immune?
I haven't seen Ang Lee's Woodstock movie yet, but hope to see it tomorrow.
Hi Paul! You have the immunities - you are the key! I hope you like Woodstock.
Have a good day everyone! I can't get over those PoP costumes - love them :D
Looking forward to seeing Ang's Woodstock, can't wait to hear the soundtrack! :)
As it turns out, only a few theaters are still showing "Taking Woodstock. I'll have to drive about 15 miles to see it. I'm about to leave. Wish me luck. :-)
Good Luck! :)
Hi Back to the Garden - I wouldn't mind hearing that myself!
I hope you got to see it, Paul!
I hope everyone's having/had a good Friday. I'm following D23 on Twitter! :D
I'm sure you've seen this, but during an interview with maggie this party really upset me :(
'The ‘Dark Knight’ actress is saddened her younger sibling Jake Gyllenhaal is constantly followed by paparazzi and admits his celebrity lifestyle has changed him as a person.'
The fact it's got so bad it's changed him is so upsetting to think of him starting out young and bright eyed...
I just hope it doesn't get so bad that he quits on us! :(
I can't wait for "Love and Other Drugs" to start filming, there are lots of rapports between jake and Anne, they will make a great film together.
I'm also looking forward to the movie and to them promoting it.
I also wouldn't mind if they became a couple in real life. They'd have beautiful big eyed, dark haird babies. :D
Hi Anon - I posted the origin of this article you mention a few days ago. It's from Marie Claire and I'm glad to say that if you go to the Marie Clare scans (just go back through the recent posts), you'll see that these people are completely misquoting Maggie. She said no such thing, which is hardly a surprise!
Hi JakeFan! I can't wait to see pics of Jake and Anne together - they go so well together :D
The costumes look great!
Jake looks great too in the new pics...and the MM ones. :D
Have a great weekend everyone....raining here and memories of 9/11 still hit hard.
XOXO
Hi there Get Real! I hope the rain stops and you have a lovely weekend. 9/11 has been on my mind too, as it is every year on this day. I've been reading about the commemorations in NYC, Washington and Pennsylvania. Hugs to you in NYC xx
D23: Prince of Persia Trailer Impressions
Overall, the trailer was beautifully shot, atmospheric, action-packed and exactly what one would hope from a Prince of Persia film. With the release date (May 28, 2010) still a ways away, who knows when viewers will be able to see the trailer in theatres. But we can assure those of you who might be anxious that it should be worth the wait.
Have a good night!
I saw "Taking Woodstock." I was the only person there. It was strange to be watching a movie depicting a million people at a concert, but with only one person in the theater watching it.
It was a great movie. There were a million people on the screen, but Jake was not one of them. :-( However, Ang Lee directed and James Schamus wrote the screenplay, so there were those two Jake links.
Prince of Persia Trailer:
Coming Soon’s Silas Lesnick is on the scene over at D23 and got to see both trailers today. He says that the trailer for “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” featured quite a bit of Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan and that it explained the basic plot. Lesnick then describes the trailer by telling us that: “there is a magical dagger that offers the bearer the power to travel through time. Ben Kingsley (as the evil Nizam) wants to steal it and use it it to destroy the world, so Dastan and Tamina (Gemma Arterton) have to take it to “the secret guardian temple” where it can be safe. There’s quite a bit of fast cutting and flirting between Dastan and Tamina. At one point, they appear to be in disguise as servants and she asks if he’s carrying the dagger. He tells her that she’ll have to do a pretty thorough search to find it.”
This sounds cool and all, but I’m let down because I don’t see any mention of scenes showing off the video games trademark acrobatic/parkourish stunts. I want my “Prince of Persia” movie to be nothing but Prince Dastan running up walls, grabbing on to bars, and jumping from one wall to the next Jackie Chan style. If the finished film doesn’t have any of this then I, and all the other fans, will be pissed. I’m 100% sure of this.
Hi there! Sorry I'm so late popping by. I've been driving for hours (well, actually I've been sitting in traffic jams for hours...).
Hi Monca! How are you doing? I had a late night last night reading all these reports coming in. It's so exciting! Look after yourself *)
Hey Paul! You were the only one? I quite like that for some films but I'd like to see bigger numbers for ng. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Is there a soundtrack available?
